A grand wooden ship floats upon the calm sea, skull flag flying and scouts in the bird’s nest searching for potential victim ships on the horizon. Fear is struck into the very bones of whomever sees the dreaded pirate ship, and many ships steer clear of them. The menacing jolly roger symbol on the flag, together with the intimidating wooden ship and sails, is the image most people have in mind when they think of pirate ships. Modern day pirates are vastly different, and usually operate on speedboats. The old fashioned pirate ship is a symbol of romanticism and adventure on the high seas at its finest.
