This is not an imagination, but a true story that I witnessed a few days back. Although the part of largest democracy in the world, I was not dare to write about it. Even now I do not want to reveal the names, including the name of the place where this happened. 

It was a Sunday, and my little daughter was completing 6 months that day. I have decided to purchase some toys for a six month old baby, and we hired a taxi to the best baby shopping area in the town for babies. While crossing the junction I saw this guy, with his three friends, sitting on a wooden bench outside a small teashop and enjoying their Sunday gossiping. He was looking happy, talking and laughing about some incident that happened in his circle. A glass of tea was within his grip, and occasionally he was sipping from it.

We stopped the taxi a few feet after the junction, in front of a toy shop. I stepped out from the car with my baby on my shoulder, and then my wife. My wallet was still in my pocket and I was struggling to take it out for paying the taxi fare. Just then I heard this loud bang, three times one after the other, and then a break of 5 seconds and three more. I looked back to see people running away; some on their bicycle, some on their motor bikes, and some on their feet. I sensed the heat in the atmosphere, and looked at my wife who was stumbling in fear. The taxi driver needed his money, and that too in a rush. We virtually jumped back on the seats and asked him to take us away from the scene.

“Where should I go?”

“Just drive ahead.”

He then designed his own route, and led us to a safer place. Although I paid him more than what the distance he has covered, he deserved it for taking us off from the sight. My baby was scared by the sound but did not realize anything more than that; she felt safe in her parents’ arms. My wife was choking her breath by witnessing some outrageous act of four bike riders. And the man who was happy sipping tea and sharing his joyful moments with his friends, he received five of the six shots on his body.

He too might have a nice family back at your home, a son, a daughter, a loving wife, and your old parents. A happy lunch with his family, an after lunch nap with his kids, and a lovely chat with his wife, this could be his last day. There could be plans to go for an evening walk, or a visit to his relatives. What he must have thought when he saw the rowdies pointing their guns at him? Was he feared? Did he try an attempt to escape? Or, he just left his life to its fate? Five out of six bullets, he might not even feel the pain. In less than a minute, everything was over. It can happen to me tomorrow; it can also happen to you, or to anyone in this country called India, and we call it democracy. Is this democracy? Are we really democratic? If this you call democracy, what can be the rest?

I believe I got that lesson as a vision of something going to happen in future. Not with me as I don’t belong to that religion or community but to millions of people in this world who are suffering because of bunch of killers who are killing under the name of religion. This world is not blind enough that no one knows about who is guilty and should be punished. But having seen many great battles and causalities most of the countries have kept silence to their best to avoid such economical and human disasters.

Do you think every people indulge in terrorism is after religion?

If you are penniless but ambitious you are in for a trap. Many youths you can see in those terrorist camps and in those videos are not just there because they strongly believe in religion or support it. They have those big dreams and ambition for money, power and lust, which make it possible for many terrorist, groups to higher them by satisfying their hunger.

These are not just a bunch of illiterates or wanderers but many highly educated leaders, software engineers, mechanical engineers; marketing executives etc. from various fields are part of it.

Every time someone goes mad, it has to be World War?       

Every time if anything has to be curbed or solved it has to go through blood of innocents?

I have only questions and no answer. I don’t run this world or country or not even a small shop. I am an employee earning for a living and working for someone. But it really hurts and provokes a thought when you go through headlines about bomb blasts and such other terrorist attacks.

I have not lost anyone of my loved ones yet to this beast of terrorism but I cannot just wait for that to happen. But at present I can only write this article and not go out there on battlefields with guns in hands and blood sport around.
