Q: I know of a couple who’s applying for a Domestic Partnership, but they’re heterosexual. I thought usually homosexual couples get domestic partnerships? But anyway…

A: An alternative to marriage that some states, such as Maine, has. It is better than marriage in some ways, as the partners basically “adopt” each other as next of kin. But it is worse in other ways, as it doesn’t guarantee all the rights of children that a marriage guarantees. It is a compromise that caters to religious people who say that marriage should be just between a man and a woman. A domestic partnership is an arrangement of living together without the bonds of marriage. It can be homo or hetero. You share things, like rent and bills and responsibilities and sex, but aren’t bound legally. In my day we called it “living in sin” with someone. Different forms of being in a relationship. domestic would be gays and civil union, i believe, is when you are legally married through the state rather than religiously or spiritually.

You’re additional information provides the best reasons for seeking a legal Domestic Partnership, to protect the futures of their children in the event that they breakup or die by ensuring that they inherit whatever fortune they leave to to maintain their responsibilities to the children, if not each other. If they’re not yet ready to marry, but want the (much fewer) benefits that the dp provides. A legal or personal relationship between two individuals who live together and share a common domestic life but are neither joined by marriage or a civil union. It means two people who are not married or in a civil union live together and share common domestic life.

Domestic partnerships can be for heterosexual or homosexual couples. Essentially, it is a notarized document testifying to the fact that you have lived together for more than a year, and that you have no plans of changing that situation. It is often used so that, for example, unmarried but committed couples can live in married student housing on college campuses, things like that. Occasionally you can recieve certain tax or insurance benefits as well.

There have been some brilliant inventions and some very silly ones like these examples:

Fed up with waiting for his luggage at airports, in 1945 Robert Fulton invented an airplane that converted into a car. Unfortunately, it was so heavy it could never take off.

One inventor has a patent for coffins built with alarms, in case someone is accidentally buried alive.

Another inventor has a patent for two-person gloves, special gloves for couples who like to hold hands skin-to-skin in icy weather.

Thomas Alva Edison, who helped invent the light bulb and movies, also invented concrete furniture. It went down like a concrete balloon.

Image via Wikipedia

Alexander Fleming got the idea for antibiotic drugs when he noticed how the fungus penicillin killed bacteria he was studying in his laboratory.

In 1952, Jonas Salk developed a vaccine against polio. He tested it on himself to be sure it was safe.

Roller skates were invented in 1760 by London inventor Joseph Merlin. One day, Merlin made a spectacular entrance to a fancy dress ball wearing metal-wheeled boots – and crashed headlong into a giant mirror, shattering it.

The whoopee cushion was invented when workers at the Jem Rubber Company in Toronto, Canada, “experimented” with rubber sheets.

The fart alarm is a joke invention that is said to beep when it detects a fart. In fact, it is set off by vibration.

In the 1970’s, Art Fry realized he could use a glue that didn’t stick to make a bookmark in his hymnbook – and invented the Post-it note.

In 1956, Noah and Joe McVicker invented a wallpaper cleaner. They then realized it was like modeling clay only better, and so invented Play-doh.

Roy Plunkett was working with gases in 1938 when one turned into a solid with a surface so slippery nothing stuck to it. He had discovered Teflon, which is used to make nonstick pans.

In 1905, 11-year-old Frank Epperson accidentally left out a cup of soda water with a stick in it on a cold night – the first Popsicle.

Inspired by the reflection of lights on road signs, Percy Shaw invented the studs now set in unlit British roads, called cat’s eyes, in 1934.

Get creative with the six longest words from beautiful English.

Image via Wikipedia

English, oh, pretty belle! A language with texture and form. It flows, it grows and it evolves unlike any other. Perhaps that is why it is the major language of commerce, Web design and travel. Originating from a tiny province of Holland, the language has grown beyond believe producing fruit that is sweet and tubers that are long. These are the six longest words in English; well worth trying out in your Triond articles if you dare. Using them would sure keep the language alive and the reader tongue tied for minutes. Consider bookmarking or printing this page for fun.

1. LopadotemakhoselakhogaleoKarinleipsanodrimhypotrimmatosilphiokarabomelitokatakekhymenokikhlepikossyphophattoperisteralektryonoptokephalliokigklopeleiolagōiosiraiobaphētraganopterýgōn

Translated from Greek, and also vast in its’ original state, this is a, “made-up,” dish, mentioned in the comedy by Aristophanes, “Assembly Women.” This hilarious treat is fried dogfish heads, thrush all smeared with honey. It is doubtful anyone has ever created it, but for the game, why not try it in today’s culinary adventure-land? It has 183 letters but is found only in the prints of the play not in any dictionary.

2. Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis

This is the longest word in the Oxford English Dictionary, with 45 letters. If you stand near a volcano and breathe in it’s dust you will probably fall sick with this condition. It’s a disease and it affects the lungs after microscopic particles are inhaled. It’s a nasty one and naturally has no cure. Aeroplanes flying over Indonesia often get a mechanical version, when they fly through the clouds of active volcanoes, in that archipelago.

Image via Wikipedia

3. Pseudopseudohypoparathyroidism

Known also as PseudoPHP 1a, this is another grisly-affliction. A technical and medical word it is 30 letters long. It is a hormonal disorder inherited, from your mum, but don’t worry, it is rare. It comes with a bevvy of associated disorders, such as short stature and weak immunity, etc. Tongue-tiedness is also another affliction with this gem of a word.

4. Floccinaucinihilipilification

This word is 29 letters long, translating roughly as, “estimating something to be worthless.” An example would be, “He took his mother’s vase into the antique dealer who pooh-poohed it with floccinaucinihilipilification, telling him to leave.” If anyone, “disses,” you then they are doing it.

5. Antidisestablishmentarianism

Everybodies favourite, often cited as the longest, with 28 letters. Also, “antidisestablishmentarianism.com,” is a very simple, effective Web site that took the Internet by storm. It translates roughly as, “going against the removal of church or state control.” A great example would of it would be the restoration of the Monarchy in France after the French Revolution except for one fatal flaw, they installed Napoleon as Emperor, not King. It is a great point scorer if you use it in Scrabble.

6. Honorificabilitudinitatibus

Technically, not English, but used by William Shakespeare’s character, Costard, in, “Love’s Labour’s Lost.” It means being in a state to receive honours. A great example would be, “She graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Science, with honours, and was honorificabilitudinitatibus the day of receiving her degree.” It is more of an ode to William Shakespeare’s pure creativity with the lingo that counts it as English. 27 letters long.

Conclusion

English is a fluid language. These words are perfectly acceptable in the right context. A writer should attempt to use them more, if only to keep English vivid and alive. My favourite is the volcano disease one, as it can be used so well in context. Whatever words you choose, you should always consider using these words, the six longest words in English.
