This rail crash happened close to the town of Selby in North Yorkshire, England on the 28th of February 2001. Ten people were killed in the crash and 82 suffered serious injuries.

A train derailed in Modane, France in December 1917, the crash killed at least 500 of those soldiers returning home after fighting during the First World War in Italy. There was plenty of warning given to the French officers in charge of the train but they chose to ignore the advice of an expert and insisted that the overcrowded train proceeded as scheduled.

In some parts of the country Jacobs Engine Brakes (Jake Brakes) are being prohibited from being used. Jake Brakes were put on semi-trucks to help slow down the trucks instead of the driver using the mechanical brakes.
