The Legend of Good Queen Berta
Queen Berta of Burgundy was buried in Payerne. She was revered as a local saint there, and her story started to grow as time went by. Soon she was known as Good Queen Berta. Still later, she acquired the name Queen Berta the Spinner. Even later, she would become godmother to a new republic.
The Good Queen Berta in History
Good Queen Berta is the name given in Switzerland to Queen Berta of Upper Burgundy, the mother of Empress Adelheid. She was born a daughter of the Duke of Swabia and married King Rudolf II of Upper Burgundy. She would later acquire the name Queen Berta the Spinner, too.
