All year round, our mothers have been working full time at home never ceasing with unconditional love for the husband and kids. It’s but once in a year when we recognize her special role. Below are some ideas to make our mothers feel just that, regardless of age, status and preferences.

Cakes

Cakes are classic gifts for mothers with sweet tooth. With just the right message and decoration, mommy will surely think she’s lucky to have such a sweet family.

Watch

This could be the perfect fashion accessory for mothers who always keep track of time. For moms, every minute counts and in fact, they have a schedule for everything: waking hour, breakfast, time for school/office, naptime, bath time, bed time. Actually, even laundry and baking are accurate up to the last minute.

Day-Off

Give mommy a day dedicated only for resting. The young ones could do the easiest household chores, saving the harder ones for the elder siblings or daddy. An extra service like breakfast in bed would make this family effort more noticeable, mommy would surely treasure this particular mother’s day.

Pampering Set

Let’s face it. With the number of things mom needs to organize, she hardly has time to even look at herself in the mirror, soak herself for an hour in the tub, or much more to visit the spa. This day is the perfect timing to remind our mothers that they deserve to be pampered in return for all the taking care she’d done for the family. Just make sure you get the right message across: it’s not that she’s becoming unattractive. She just needs to relax.

But the best gift we could give our mothers is to return the love and concern that they give to us unconditionally. For all their sacrifices, let the mothers feel that they are special, not just on mother’s day but every day for the rest of our lives.

When I was a school girl, nobody spoke of going away at Easter. School holidays started on Ash Wednesday to Easter Monday. Yet, we seemed to be pretty busy doing loads of different things. I adored going to my aunt’s house to see her how she baked for us what down in the Mediterranean is known as La Mona de Pascua which is a dough made with flour, sugar, eggs and salt, but this dough has to be kneaded very well to be left resting for about an hour before baking. On top of it, it is sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon and decorated with hard boiled eggs. This is the traditional one and the one that is going to be eaten on Easter Monday to mark the end of Lent. 

However, and as living conditions improved, these types of Easter cakes became fancier and more sophisticated. No in vain in many regions by the Mediterranean are well famed for their chocolate making and patisserie. One only has to stroll around in the streets of any of these cities to see what masterpieces these pastry cooks can make.

In their finely decorated shop windows, one will see not only  cakes, as in the photograph above, but also castles, monuments, landscapes and all what we can imagine will have been crafted and carved in chocolate.

A godfather will present his godchildren with one of these cakes that the whole of the family will enjoy in mid afternoon. Where as, it corresponds to the godmother to present them with a palm on the Sunday that commemorates Jesus Christ’s entry in Jerusalem. It is part of the religious practice for these practising Catholics. On such a Sunday, they will go to mass holding their palms and bunches of fresh bay leaves. 

On Ash Wednesday, which marks the end of the carnival, there will always be what it is known as the burial of the sardine. It is of course a festive and pagan celebration, meaning that the joyous time of carnival is over and we’ll enter into the austerity of Easter. A ludicrous march of people dressed in black will walk, bellowing, behind the little coffin that contains a sardine to bury it in the country. There will be music as it corresponds to a solemn burial. 

Then, the processions will take place on thursday and Good Friday will be a quiet time until Sunday and Easter Monday.

The excursion on Ash Wednesday with our teachers in the country. Playing in the open until late in the evening. Watching mum or my aunt to knead the dough or going out to watch the Easter processions were part of our Easter school holidays.

Child support in New York State I have overheard can go up until the child is 21 years of age and possibly older if the child is in college and living at home with the custodial parent. Also make a great cake in the microwave with store bought cake mix.

College Student Child Support Issues In New York State

So here is the deal with child support if you are the custodial parent who is being paid child support by the other parent in New York State. As long as your child is still living at home with mom assuming that mom is the custodial parent and the child is in college the absent parent still has to pay child support. Even if the child moves out and gets his or her own apartment, if the kid is still in college the absent parent still has to pay child support.

I overheard two ladies in the laundromat say this and I wrote it down. I did not get this information from an attorney just so you know.

How To Bake Cakes In The Microwave

What you need:

Standard cake mix made according to the instructions on the package

Pam spray or non stick cooking spray

Glass pyrex baking dish or microwave safe bowl that is flat on the bottom

Make the mix in a separate mixing bowl. Spray non stick cooking spray in the glass dish you are using to cook this in the microwave with. Pour the mixed cake mix into the cooking dish and put the microwave on high for six minutes.

Now let the cake cool for two minutes and then put it on high for one minute. Repeat this three times to let the cake rise slowly.

Each time you are letting the cake rest try not to open up the microwave door. Just go six minutes on high straight through and then one and a half minutes alternating with two minutes of rest three times for the best results and your cake will be baked.

Tips

The cake will bake from the outside in so you need to bake it for as many minutes as you can one minute at a time so you can observe the middle of the cake baking and getting cooked. The middle of the cake will appear soft and still in liquid form but as the minutes go by the center of the cake will bake.

What shall you make for Dad’s special feast? Some ideas you know you can’t go wrong with come straight from my cookbook, The Basic Art of Italian Cooking. Even if preparing an entire Italian spread from appetizers all the way through 3 courses and dessert seems a little overwhelming to you, just pick a few choice ideas and go from there. You know that whatever you create for your father, he will love it.

Here’s one idea for a fabulous Father’s Day: Welcome Dad by greeting him at the door with a glass of Chianti and some luscious Bruschetta with fresh tomatoes. Don’t allow Dad to fill up on that, though! A sit-down meal with Lasagne Verde Bolognese Style prepared with fresh pasta and served with zesty greens will likely leave him asking for seconds. Remind him that there will be dessert, however…

While you both down dinner with delight, how about some reminiscing? Do you smile with thoughts of Dad letting you beat him at Parcheesi? Or did he loan you the car, even against your mother’s wishes? Sharing these memories with Dad-particularly if you don’t often do so-will surely add to the atmosphere of the evening. You will probably find that each of you has memories to share that the other had long forgotten.

Once you have cleared the plates, delight him with a fruity Frullato di Fragole e Banana (Frullato with Strawberries and Banana). This smoothie-like dessert is a cool and light balance to the hearty lasagne. Perhaps after dessert, you can each enjoy a Caffe Mocha to cap off the night. You will likely discover that this is the kind of evening he will add to his roster of warm memories.

So make a date with dear old Dad. Take the time to make him a delectable meal that he will always cherish, include some fun memories of your childhood and you will make this Father’s Day a memorable one for both of you.

There are different popular and interesting legends of Valentine’s Day. Some legends trace the origin to pagan times while others link it to Saints of early Christian Church. Another belief on its origin is the beginning of the birds mating season during the Middle Ages.

So, what are your plans for this year’s Valentine’s Day? How about spending it at home with your family or with your spouse? This day need not be expensive to make it special…or romantic. Surprise your loved ones with heart-shaped foods. Make the whole day extra special without having to reach for your wallet. Look at your pantry and refrigerator and think of the foods you can cook for for your family and shape into hearts.

Let your family wake up to a breakfast of heart-shaped eggs and pancakes or waffles. No heart-shaped egg and pancake molds? Not a problem! Simply trim and shape into hearts. Do you have heart-shaped bowls? Now is the perfect time to put the kids’ breakfast cereals on them.

For lunch or dinner, how about heart-shaped rice with heart-shaped meatloaf or instead of shaping into balls, shape the meatballs into small hearts. Do the same with your veggies–carve the potatoes, carrots and leaves into hearts.

Many foods in our kitchen can be formed into hearts so go ahead and experiment, have fun and…a Happy Valentines Day to all!

1. Be a good listener, sometimes she does know what she’s talking about.
2. You treat your wife like trash, don’t expect her not to treat you the same way.
3. If she is crying about something, don’t just sit there, comfort her, hold her close, show some affection. Ask her to talk about it with you. Cause if you don’t ask about what’s wrong. Then her family or friends will know about it first.
4. Help clean the house. Yea, I know ,”but I’m to tired from all the work today”. If you just try this, you mite find that it could pay off in different ways than one.
5. Even if your in a bad mood, say something sweet to her when you get home from work. It shows that regardless of the day you’ve had. You arn’t going to drag her into it.
6. Respect her private time. She has to unwind just like you do. Maybe she just wants to read a book at the end of the day with no noise at all.
7. Every once in a while. Just out of the blue. Send her just because flowers. She will love you beyond forever.
8. Don’t lie to her. I’ve done this. And I will tell you this. She will never forget it.
   It begins to eat away at you like a grinding wheel.
9. Try to think about something else when you are out and about, instead of that fine chick, with the nice peaches and cakes. That my friend is just a walking divorce.
10. If you don’t know what your doing! Please don’t try to fix it! I can raise my hand on that one as well.
