Mobile phones have grown to be so advanced along with a huge part of just about everyone’s lives. They are used for calling people, emailing them, surfing the web, and getting directions. People have come to make use of them, yet they are still extremely fragile. One drop and the phone can be out of commission, and that’s why you need some form of protection.

A lot of people avoid cell phone cases because they are either too bulky, unattractive, or too costly. However, there is a large choice of quality leather types that can fit the top phones without adding a huge amount of size to them. In other words, you will still easily be able to fit them in your wallet. Plus they are a great deal cheaper to purchase than you would think.

When cell phones first started getting popular, the cases that were built to protect them weren’t very advanced. You would need to pay quite a bit of money for a one size fits all solution that would obscure natural style of the device and make it very difficult to fit your phone in your pocket.

Fortunately, mobile phone cases have come a very long way. They are now made to look as sleek as the phone and they are designed to be as small as possible while providing the maximum amount of support. Being that they are designed specifically for certain devices, they almost fit as if they were part of the phone itself. Prices also have dropped considerably, meaning that everyone should have one now.

For those who have just purchased a cell phone, then you need to complete what you could to protect it because you likely will not be getting a different one for several years. Thankfully, there are many quality cell phone skins to select from, whether you are looking for the type which will attach to your belt or still be able to fit into your pocket.

The leather cases are impressive since they’re extremely tough while still making your phone look sophisticated and professional. Based on what make of phone you have, you will have selections of varying leather styles and colors. There are types that enclose the phone there are kinds that behave as simple sleeves.

Mobile phones are extremely advanced, but with all of the new features and bigger screens they have, the tendency for them to break has also increased. Fortunately, you can preserve yours safe with affordable and attractive leather cell phone cases.

One of the best things about keeping your phone within the best condition possible is the fact that when you are done with it, you can sell it. People are always looking to buy used phones without a contract, and when you managed to keep yours in good shape it will go for a high price. That’s an excellent reason to invest in a quality case today.

I don’t consider myself that old. My 64th birthday is this month and I remember a lot things from my past. The way things used to be.

Yeah, I’m at what I consider the beginning of old age. Every person has a past, be it just yesterday, or 50 years ago. And I think that every writer should put together a series of articles from time to time, about the things that they remember. Because it’s history, isn’t it? It’s your little bit of the past and I think that the past , be it my past, or your past, is very interesting. This is my first one, and thus is part 1.

TV SETS

I look at our TV set today, and it’s amazing to me the things that it can do. But that’s because I remember the way TV sets used to be. I remember TV sets as floor standing console models. It was a big TV set. Not the screen, but the furniture that the TV itself was built into. TV sets back then broke down more often in those early days than they do today, and you had to call the TV repairman and he came to your apartment to fix it. He usually fixed it by replacing a vacuum tube or two (the predecessor to the transistors). I remember when there was no color TV, but everybody wanted one, or dreamed of the day when you could buy one. The brand names for TV sets were names like Zenith, Magnavox, or RCA Victor.

I remember when to buy a Japanese made product meant that you were buying something of cheap and inferior quality, so you bought American made products. We had pride in the things we built. Today, Japanese made products are some of the best in the world. They way I remember it, it started when they started to sell transistor radios. Now you have iPods. Boy, things have really changed.

But we made good reliable products. But most TV sets were black and white, and the screens were rather small, so in an effort to make their TV sets better, consumers, my grandfather included, bought a filter that you applied to the TV screen. The filter was multicolored which made the TV set appear to be in color. Also, since the TV screen was not that large, he even purchased a large magnifying glass, which he put in front of the screen in order to make the TV image larger.

TELEPHONES

I remember that if you wanted a telephone back in the 50’s and 60’s you had to call the phone company and they would deliver and set it up for you. In New York, it was called the Bell Telephone company (known as Ma Bell). There were no push buttons telephone dialers back then, so phones were rotary. You didn’t own your own phone back then, but when phone companies were ordered to divest their company into Baby Bells, you were suddenly able to go to a department store, and you purchase one, but you had to notify the phone company and let them know. That way you could save money because the phone company would stop charging you for the phone. Today we have portable phones that do so much. Like Apple iPhones, and Blackberries. Why are these things named after fruit?

CAMERAS

I also remember the cameras back then. I had a Kodak Brownie that used type 128 film. And you got 12 pictures per roll. No more than that. I never used color film back then either. Too expensive. Most of the movies that came out back then were in black and white because of that very fact. Yes, it seemed to me back then that it was a black and white world. In 1963 and 1964, we had the New York World’s Fair in Queens NY. That was about the time that the New York Mets came into existence and Shea Stadium was built close by. I went to the World’s Fair often during those two years (and for a $2 admission fee, why not?) and I shot pictures with my Kodak Brownie in black and white, but I had an 8mm movie camera and I shot movies of the World’s Fair in color. Black and White 8mm film just wasn’t sold although you could get it if you wanted it.

MOVIE CAMERAS

But I remember too when they had 8mm film. Home movies were exciting to me. I don’t remember who, but someone gave me an old 8mm camera. The film came in as a double roll of 25 feet for a total length of 50 feet. 50 feet came in at just under 3 minutes total viewing time. Then they figured out how to increase the viewing area by 50 percent without changing the size of the film so that it was still 8mm. And that made the picture look much better.

When the first side ran out, you had to turn the film over to the other side. But since it was film, you had to be careful that you didn’t do it outside in very bright sunlight. I always tried to do it in a darkened room. Today we have it better. We don’t even need to buy a movie camera anymore, or a video camera ether.

All you need is a cell phone.

Washington new laws proposal by some as outline by Our Legislators or prosing new laws on use of “Cell Phones” similar to all new laws recently that our Law makers make or generate this days. I don’t know where this mentality coming from punished society for some moron’s stupidity. I guess we should not be surprised this is becoming standard scenario with most of States Departments. This scenario is similar to a few years ago, what New Jersey Treasury Department did to me; I accepted Purchase Orders with Exemption Sales tax, the filthy State did not go after this culprits issuing fraudulent Purchase orders they made me pay for it with penalties and fines exceeding $26,000 K. Most of our Legislators rules and laws that they make/generate are made with loop holes specifically to keep their law Firms in business or them self when they are out of Government Office. I took brake while I was writing this to eat the supper and while I was eating commercial came on the TV; you may say “so what”. Well if our legislators making laws/rules as they are doing, why not banding those cute commercials of women’s underwear since some barley covers pubic hair in combination that some put the family in financial burdens buying all those teasing undeniable luxuries , or perhaps putting in jail those Wall Street over paid Shysters, but you see we would be asking too much.

I am all to put some type of rule but it must be with common sense!!!

Cell phone use while driving is bad enough, but a study says there are a lot of doctors using their phones while operating. Yikes!!

Everyone knows the ongoing debate about using a cell phone or other electronic device while driving a vehicle. But, did you know that a large number of medical professionals are using their cells during operations and other medical procedures?

According to a study conducted by researchers from the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, The use of a cell phone during serious medical procedures is not only extensive but also growing.

More Than Half Use Cell Phones While In Surgery

For example, the researchers found that cells phones were used during “cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) … by 55.6% of perfusionists (the folks that handle the heart/lung machine during surgical procedures, among other duties). What’s more, 49.2% of the same people admitted to sending text messages while performing CPB and accessed e-mail (21%), used the internet (15.1%), or checked/posted on social networking sites (3.1%) while performing their duties.

The researchers presented a 10-question survey to 439 medical professionals, mainly perfusionists. Strangely, more than 78 percent of the same medical professionals who admitted to using electronic gadgetry while doing their jobs said they thought there were “significant safety concerns” if they used such equipment and that doing so “introduced potentially significant safety risk to patients.” You would think knowing of the dangers would make them stop using their cells and other electronic toys. But, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Admit To Being Unsafe

Even more strange, even though the vast majority of the respondents said it was risky to operate and text, or whatever they were doing, only 42% and 52%, respectively, said using a cell phone or text messaging was “always unsafe.” Wouldn’t everyone in an operating room think this practice was unsafe? What about the others? Did they think they could do an adequate job of operating the heart/lung machine while accessing their Facebook page? These are probably the same people you see on the freeway – driving while texting, reading the morning paper and applying their makeup or shaving at the same time. But only 7.3% of respondents who said it was unsafe to use their cells while in the operating room admitted that the practice negatively affected their performance.

In the U.S. recently (2011), the federal government suggested that use of electronic devices while driving should be banned. Although one would never have thought to worry about the same issue while they were “under the knife” in a hospital, perhaps it’s time to put out the word – doctors, drop the cell!

Remember the days when if you wanted to change the channel on the TV you actually had to get up off your ass to change it. Or the days when cell phones were the size of your head, and weighed about as much as a brick! The advancement in technology has grown in leaps and bounds in the last decade, and will likely continue to do so. We may be getting to a point where some of us are beginning to rely too heavily on technology. Relying this much on technology could prove to be detrimental to our health.

Many people say that the recent advancements in technology have changed man kind for the better, and in most cases they are probably right. Google now let’s us find answers to any question we may have, cell phones enable us to call help when in need, and robotics has made all kinds of production much more efficient. These are all the good things that technology has done for us, but let’s take a look at some of the bad things it has brought us.

Obesity

In the year 2000 about 15 percent of Americans could be considered obese, in just 10 years that amount has doubled. In the year 2010 over 30 percent of Americans can be considered obese. Many people say that the growing numbers of fast food chains, and lack of extra curricular activities in schools is to blame. Yes, we are eating a lot more fast food then we used to, but that is not the only thing causing us to be obese. Technology is very much a part of this as well. TV, the internet, and gaming consoles, especially gaming consoles have caused us to become lazy. Everyone is stuck inside fighting aliens and living simulated lives instead of living their own! This is a major problem between us and technology today, but not the only one.

Texting

Over the past couple years texting has evolved greatly. We can now send pictures and videos on our phones. There are phones being designed specifically to send texts faster then any other phones, and scientists reckon that within the next year or so we will be able to send texts using only our mind! Now we are getting into some creepy futuristic movie stuff! Texting used to be a simple way to let people know short messages such as what time supper will be, or when you’ll be home, things like that. It has now evolved into something much more. People don’t communicate orally anymore. There are teens in the world right now that all they do, all day long is text. In school, at home, in bed, hell with waterproof phones now you can even text in the shower! If this continues then hundreds of years from now we may not even remember how to talk! Right now there are couples that literally never speak to each other. They use texting and other electronic communication to talk. The worst thing of all about texting is that it has become deadly. Over 1000 people per year die from texting and driving….

Social Networking Sites

This can be another great way to socialize and keep up to date with what is going on with your friends, but again, some people are getting to the point where they use sites like facebook too much. It is alright to go on for a few minutes a day and see what is new with everyone and check out some pictures, but some people literally spend hours every day on facebook and other social networking sites. Another problem with these sites is security, these days its so easy to hack into someones account and see all of their personal information and pictures that a child could practically do it. Finally, the worst part of all is they are a perfect hosting site for internet predators.

Cars

For god sakes now we are producing cars that use mounted cameras to drive themselves, and that sense when the driver is feeling stressed or tired and will actually pull over to the side of the road! Yes this seems like a good idea in theory, but think about it, you can teach a robot how to do anything absolutely perfectly, but you will never replace the human minds ability to adapt to changing conditions, this ability to adapt can be very important during driving. What if a semi is speeding out of control straight at you? Is the computer in the car going to be able to steer you out of the way, maybe but I wouldn’t trust it. Or what if you are driving on the edge of a mountain road and the computer suddenly senses that you feel stressed and takes control of the car pulling it off the road. Off the road, off the cliff and down the mountain, thank you computer, now I’m dead.

Robots

Believe it or not scientists are actually getting very close to being able to produce robots that can actually learn and think for themselves. Why on earth would you want to do that! What happens when some day they learn that they could easily over throw us and make us their slaves! It sounds like something right out of a sci-fi movie that could never happen, but science is getting close. And if we create the technology, why couldn’t it happen?

At the moment technology is in a nice place. For the most part it is improving our daily lives, with a few exceptions. Although many more new and helpful technology is likely to come, I fear that as technology advances, so will its grip on man kind. Eventually this grip may become so tight that we would be able to make it let go, not even if we want to.

This paper discusses the new technologies of word processors, Ipads, etc. that have crept up on younger generations, and how this has changed literature and writing for the youth.

Literature and writing for several centuries have remained consistent to pen and paper. That is something that the future will eventually make obsolete. Recorded records will become artifacts in museums, while still being readily available via scanned images. Technology as it evolves more and more everyday things are becoming more dependent on technology. The heartbreaking fact of technology replacing the written texts and print is that teachers are not doing away with the common methods and teaching methods are becoming all computerized. Technology is now being used via computers, ipads, and even cell phones.

Computers began slowly but eventually became an economical and useful tool that is used in nearly everyone’s homes today. Computers began in the classrooms as being a replacement for typewriters. Keyboarding was not much of a difference when comparing the two; however, the word processing tools are most beneficial for school use. Not only useful for students the word processing has become a useful tool for nearly every occupation. Word processing technology is not only a place to type papers, information, etc, but they also correct grammar and spelling while making editing effortless. While word processors make things seem effortless, the children are not being forced to correct their papers for grammar errors and spelling, computers do it for them what is the point. This is the attitude of most students, this is one way that students and people are becoming too dependent on technology and are no longer having to look anything up themselves in dictionaries and grammar handbooks. This technology is also useful for duplication and documentation. Once something is typed into a word processor the document can be printed multiple times, and the saved copies are proof of documentation that can be used in keeping important records.

Word processors began being used during class rooms for reports, and now has become common for teachers to use, and then later came the technology of projectors and screens to relay information. All of these methods have taken the place of hand writing; student’s writing papers, and teachers using chalk and a blackboard, or dry erase boards are now even becoming obsolete as everyone relies on technology. The benefit of this is that illegible hand writing from teachers and students alike are no longer a problem. However, the hand writing has become something that is no longer practiced for delicacy and legibility, it has fell by the wayside and hand writing is now becoming more sloppy, messy, and illegible because it is no longer practiced. Everything is done via technology, in many instances, technology is replacing birthday cards, congratulation cards, etc as people are becoming more accustomed to the quick and easy methods of sending these type cards via emails and internet websites.

While computers proved to be a useful tool, new technology is always developing. Computers began taking up the space of an entire room, then became desktops that fit in a three foot by three foot space easily, and now desktops are obsolete as there are laptops that are light weight, and can be carried everywhere with ease. However, the laptops are currently becoming obsolete as new ipads the size of a typical novel are now taking the place of the laptops. Ipads can do nearly everything that a computer can do only they are a lot smaller and more accessible. The ipads no longer have a keyboard but the keyboard is on a touch screen which is doing away with having to have the extra space for the keyboard. The touch screen itself has done away with the need of the computer mouse and everything is becoming combined into one little screen that can do everything that the larger computers, the size of a room, could do; only with more ease, quicker, and accessible.

Ipads in the classrooms have taken the place of computers in the many schools , instead of going into one computer lab, now there are 30 or more ipads on a cart that be pushed from classroom to classroom. However, more recently children in New York City are now being required to own an ipad. This is a wonderful thing for students, in that they need to learn to use technology at early ages in order to be able to function in today’s modern society; however, not all parents are fortunate enough to afford these devices as the nation’s economy has fallen and more and more people are finding themselves unemployed. However, the children are being taught by the teachers how to use the ipads, and not being taught how to write and print the letters, words, and papers. Everything is done via technology even at young ages from elementary schools. These ipads while may be a useful tool for people, I do not believe that people are bettering the new generations by enforcing the new technology on the students. The generations that are in schools today are accustomed to the new technologies and it does not bother them as much as the elementary students. However, the elementary children need to not only be accustomed to using technology but they need a balance of both technology and hand writing. It is important for children to learn how to print and write in cursive in order to be able to sign their own names legibly if nothing else. If technology crashed, society would come to a standstill as none of the young generations now will know how to do anything even communicate without a computer, cell phone, or ipad.

With the development of the ipad came the online readers. Literature has become a technology and is no longer an art. Printed media I considered to be an art, something that contained many pages of delicate and intricate work performed by the authors; so many of today’s great novels began as daily journals that would not exist if it were all done online. Today literature is online and while many people can type one hundred words per minute or more the time it takes to write a novel has somewhat become lessened, but for me reading a work of literature on the computer, or ipad is not something that I enjoy, but it is something that makes me lose respect for the author, I cannot seem to appreciate the work of literature as much if it is online.

Reading and going to school used to mean carrying books by the bags full, sometimes as many as 20 books to all the class rooms during the day. Today the books for classes can be carried by one device, and the one device can carry several books. Sitting and reading on a screen, some people can argue that it gets the children more interested in reading as it is a new technology and similar to a computer screen or television screen; however, there used to be an argument that the led and tube screens were very damaging to the human eyes. Has that been forgotten with the development of new technology? The most disturbing problem with ipads and online readers is that they are taking the place of printed works. With the depletion of printed works, bookstores are slowly going out of business, and libraries are no longer being used. Everything is at the persons fingertips and they do not have to leave their homes to find and read a book, they can search for the book online and downloaded instantly.

Not only have ipads come into the school systems, but technology on cell phones is a remarkable thing in today’s society. Used to a cell phone was meant for talking and making calls, particularly in cases of emergencies. Today cell phones have internet connections, and applications that allow people to do a variety of things. People can shop, browse the internet, and create lists all by different applications on cell phones. A recent push for school systems is to allow the students to use the cell phones during classes and in classrooms. This is something that is a shock as my generation despised the use of cell phones and they were prohibited as they became a distraction to teachers. The argument today is that cell phones provide students with a new form of research, and communication that can be useful to teachers. I have to disagree to an extent. The cell phones may be a good thing, if used in the proper way; however, the problem is that more students will be distracted and tempted to text other students during class than to actually pay attention to teachers and use them for their intended purposes. This is also an issue that exists with the ipads, as I have seen too many time people sitting in class on facebook or other social media websites rather than using the technology to learn.

All of the new technology devices will have pro’s and con’s. The issue that arises is finding the line where enough is enough. Technology has crept into many peoples lives and gave them rough wake up calls as the things that they have done for years change and they can no longer do. I remember when my grandparents went to the pumps and were not allowed to get gas because they were at a credit card only gas pump. They did not and still do not have a credit card. Technology such as a credit card now is something that our generation does not even think of at age 18 we just sign up for one and that is that. Computers, ipads, and even cell phones are changing as we speak and while they may not be, in my personal opinion, the best for writing and literature they are creeping into our lives today just as credit cards did my grandparents.
