Simple fact reveals are one of the greatest things individuals watch on tv. This is because the situations that occur are not scripted and normally happen in front of the audience. One show that is assisting individuals want to become balanced again is the greatest loss.

The participants are a lot of heavy men and women who deliver the results out and go on a eating plan and at the end of the week; one of these people will be removed. The particular human being who shed the greatest number of pounds after a three-month plan will win $250,000 and have a second chance of living a balanced life.

The person does not have to invasion for income to develop some way of life changes. As the saying goes. ‘health is wealth’ and this is something more special than any piece of document with a $ hint has to offer.

People are able to use-up more energy while training. This means the body will shed the meals absorbed and this has to be changed so there is power after to do other features. The person should get a meals that has the right amounts of sugars, protein and fat so this can fix destroyed structure, refuel and cheaper the bodies cholestrerol levels.

Here are some cases of meals that should be absorbed after a training.

Eating breads has been known to which is the power missing after a training. Since this has certain substances that are substantial in bad cholestrerol levels, this can be taken for rice breads that is much better. Crazy can also help cheaper the cholestrerol levels and getting some low fat peanut butter will definitely develop a great meal.

Having a fruit is also great to cheaper the cholestrerol levels. You should eat as a whole instead of getting away the skin or transforming this into a liquid. Research indicates that having it the way it is keeps the natural materials that are great for the particular human being. An apple company is just one of many fruit that can be absorbed once it has been cleaned.

If the particular human being wants to low cost after going to the gym, it is best to group some treats that can be absorbed after a training. Reducing some carrot is or cutting a few beans then providing it in a cheap box will come in useful after getting a bath and coverage for deliver the results or when going house.

When the particular human being comes house, it is time to make something that can provide better nutrition. An example could be having some seafood or poultry cast into the microwave or having it water. Research indicates that burning using preparing oil also raises the individual’s cholestrerol levels level so preparing it in another method can decrease this.

Having some produce along will help develop this a balanced meals. Some beans and produce can be ready since research have found this to cheaper the liver’s creation of cholestrerol levels. The offering for today can end with some natural for treat making the person happy and light.

Lowering the cholestrerol levels will not occur in a single day. By following a healthy eating plan with exercise, the person will be able to shed weight and slashes down the cholestrerol levels that leaves the particular human being in potential chance of blood demand level, a action or cardiac arrest.

We depend on minerals for many reasons, such as composition of body fluids, formation of blood and bone, healthy nerve function, as well as muscle tone.

We depend on minerals for many reasons, such as composition of body fluids, formation of blood and bone, healthy nerve function, as well as muscle tone. Minerals help maintain proper chemical balance, classified in two groups, namely, bulk minerals and trace minerals:

Bulk minerals consist of calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and phosphorous.

Trace minerals consist of boron, chromium, copper, iodine, iron, manganese, molybdenum, selenium, and zinc.

Bulk Minerals:

Calcium:

1) It helps form strong bones and teeth, including healthy gums. Regulates heartbeat, lowers cholesterol levels and prevents cardiovascular disease. Helps muscular growth and prevents muscle cramps. Helps prevent cancer, lowers blood pressure and prevents bone loss.

Magnesium:

It helps activate enzymes, prevents depression, dizziness, muscle weakness, twitching, premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and maintains normal body temperature.

Sodium:

It helps maintain proper water balance and also helps the normal function of nerves and muscles.

Potassium:

This particular mineral helps maintain a healthy nervous system, and regulates heart rhythm. It also helps prevent stroke, stabilizes blood pressure.

Phosphorus:

It is needed for blood clotting, bone and tooth formation, cell growth, contraction of heart muscle, normal heart rhythm and normal kidney function.

Trace Minerals:

Boron:

Needed for healthy bones and muscle growth, enhances brain function, promotes alertness, prevents postmenopausal osteoporosis.

Chromium:

It helps metabolize glucose, stabilizes blood sugar levels and benefits diabetics. Deficiency of this mineral can cause anxiety, fatigue, glucose intolerance, and arteriosclerosis.

Copper:

It aids in the formation of bone, hemoglobin, and red blood cells. It produces energy, coloring of hair and skin, and taste sensitivity. It is needed for formation of collagen that helps form bones. Lack of this mineral can contribute to fat levels in the blood.

Iodine:

It helps metabolize excess fat and is important for physical and mental development, healthy thyroid gland, as well as prevents goiter.

Iron:

It helps produce hemoglobin and myoglobin (hemoglobin in muscle tissue). It oxygenates red blood cells, builds a healthy immune system and produces energy. Iron deficiency can cause anemia, brittle hair, difficulty swallowing, dizziness, fatigue, fragile bones, hair loss, inflammation of tissues.

Manganese:

It is needed for protein and fat metabolism, healthy nerves, healthy immune system, as well as regulates blood sugar.

Molybdenum:

Promotes normal cell function and activates enzymes. Deficiency of this mineral can cause impotence in older men.

Selenium:

It protects the immune system, prevents the invasion of free radicals and tumors. Deficiency may cause heart disease and cancer, high levels of cholesterol, infections, liver impairment and pancreatic problems.

Zinc:

Promotes a healthy immune system and regulates the activity of oil glands. It also helps enhance acuity of smell and taste, helps heal wounds as well as fights and prevents formation of free radicals.

Note: Minerals compete with one another for absorption and should be taken in balanced amounts.

Many people live on a omnivorous diet, but in reality our anatomical equipment favors that of a flesh free diet.

Meat Eaters- Have Claws
Herbivores- No claws
Humans- No claws

Meat Eaters- Have strong hydrochloric acid in their stomachs to digest meat
Herbivores- have stomach acid 20 times weaker than that of a meat eater
Humans- have stomach acid 20 times weaker than that of a meat eater

Meat Eaters-have no skin pores and perspire thought the tongue
Herbivores- perspire thought the pores located on the skin
Humans- perspire thought the pores located on the skin

Meat Eaters-Salivary glands in mouth are not needed to pre-digest fruits and grains
Herbivores- Well developed salivary glands, which are needed to pre-digest fruits and grains
Humans- Well developed salivary glands, which are needed to pre-digest fruits and grains

Meat Eaters- Have acid saliva with no enzymes to pre-digest grains.
Herbivores- Have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains.
Humans- Have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains

Based on this information collected from A.D. Andrews in 1970, its becomes more than clear that if humans were intended to consume meat we would not share so many similarities to those species which are herbivores. Could many of out cultures numerous diseases and illness potentially be avoided with a switch from a meat eaters diet to a well balanced vegetarian diet? Diseases such as osteoporosis, arthritis, cataracts, Muscular degeneration, breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, type 2 diabetes, Cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and Cholesterol. I believe that a switch to a meatless diet would greatly improve the health of many people. While many people believe that they need meat in their diets to in fact be healthy. There are quite a few misconceptions about switching to a vegan or vegetarian diet. The first one being that without meat there would not be an adequate amount of protein. The average American consumes 5 times more protein than is needed by the body on a daily basis, and because of the incompletely combination of amino acids (protein building blocks) that animals meat has it makes it so very little of this can be used or utilized. The prime danger of having too much protein in the body is a waste product produced when digesting protein called uric acid. Too much of this uric acid and eventually it will start to attack your kidney and kidney cells, leading to a condition called nephritis. You can get a more usable form of protein from, soybeans, tofu, whole grains, beans, lentils, legumes, nuts and seeds. With a combination of our human saliva and stomach acid not being acidic enough to break down animal meat, and our gastrointestinal tract being over 30 feet long, it can take anywhere up to 14-21 days to fully digest ingested animal flesh. Remnants can cling to the wall of the intestines and if a person is suffering from constipation, the rotting meat can stay in there for months or maybe even years! Its no wonder that colon cancer is running rampant! with such a slow process of evacuation and putrefaction. I can almost guaranteed that life long vegetarians will never suffer from such an illness, as well as many others. To raise and slaughter animals for food is a costly process too. The grain that we are using to feed the animals we are going to slaughter for food, reduces the amount of food that is available to underdeveloped nations. Many will go hungry when they could be eating the grain we are using to fatten and kill the live stock for our local super market sale. Eating vegetarian ensures that you have removed yourself from the participation of this imbalance. So next you claim your self to be animal who needs meat to survive and live, ask yourself this? do you plan on going out and killing the other animals with your hands, tearing its flesh apart and lapping up its blood? No most likely not, because your a human not a omnivorous wild animals. Your going to go buy it, season it and cook it well done. Proof enough that your not intended to eat another animals flesh, BECAUSE IT DOES NOT EVEN TASTE GOOD AND IT DISGUSTS YOU IN ITS NATURAL STATE! which it should, because we are not bears not tigers or lions. Its time to free yourself from the conditioned state of thinking that, meat is good, meat is healthy, meat is natural, when that could not be further from the truth. lets exchange our forks and knives for a healthier, longer, less pain and ill filled life.

Sex squeak in your bedroom in May worse than grandparents bed? Here are some small tweaks to improve performance, and intense sensations of burning desires.Within days, your sex life will go … Grease!

1. For a “pulse erotic hormonal” dark chocolate. This stimulates production of endorphins which will give rise to a state well. In addition, Cocoa increases the sensitivity level of the skin, in part because of methylxanthines. So we look fordark chocolate , which contains more cocoa than milk, but do not get greedy too much. For the sake of figure!

NOT decided on white chocolate , which, frankly, not even while chocolate does not contain cocoa.

2. For extra energy: muscle of cattle. It is proved scientifically that increases protein levels of dopamine, a substance in the brain responsible for “excitement” during sex.Beef muscle also contains zinc , a mineral that increases libido.

NOT determined for energy drinks . They are full of caffeine and sugar, in a first phase, creates a feeling of energy, but this state is quickly replaced by a sudden tone. In addition, sugar inhibits production of testosterone in the body (whether you’re a woman, whether you’re male), that hormone due to which we feel like fools.

3. For added strength: vanilla ice cream. Rich in calcium and phosphorus, two minerals that they take care of your muscles, strengthen bones and increase libido. And do not tell us you do not need power to put into practice at least a quarter of the positions described in the Kama Sutra!

NOT decided to red . Of course, these are some of the healthiest vegetables, but not a very inspired choice when it comes to sex. That’s because lycopene and their composition lowers fitofluenul of testosterone in the body.

4. For higher performance: blueberries. Forget Viagra! If you need a blue pills sex quality Mother Nature has an offer. The little fruit, and blue for your comfort them physically, contain soluble fiber which means removing excess cholesterol from the blood, helping circulation.

It also relaxes blood vessels, and at times of maximum tenderness, anger blood will reach exactly the right place!Experts recommend half a cup of blueberries, at least 3-4 times a week.

NOT determined for candy or lollipops off the bat . They are sweet, aromatic and what to talk about the sharp image of a woman enjoying a lollipop. Nothing wrong, say experts drew attention again to the sugar which lowerstestosterone in the blood.

The many benefits of eating garlic.

It was in the 1600’s that herbalist Nicholas Culpepper said of it ‘the offensiveness of the breath of they that have eaten garlick will lead you by the nose to knowledge thereof’, and he was so right, wasn’t he? The stuff stinks, no doubt, and for most of the last century it was to be avoided at all costs, because it was so unacceptable, socially, but things have changed.

Image is important to so many people, and bad breath is such an embarrassment, so why do it to yourself on purpose? Health, is the simple answer, because garlic is a real treasure chest, from a medicinal point of view, and we’d be foolish to ignore the benefits it can undoubtedly offer.

Not only is it a source of vitamins C and E, as well as protein, calcium, cobalt, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur and zinc (important to our sex life) but in March 2001, Yuji Karasaki, of the Kitakyushu university, reported that a protein taken from it can inhibit the growth of cancerous cells.

Researchers at Wolverhamton University, in England, found that garlic kills the bacteria which cause stomach ulcers, and a US trial in May 2001 showed that people who took regular doses of allicin – the main ingredient of garlic – were 66% less likely to develop colds and flu. Why this potent medicinal herb has had such a bad press is something of a mystery.

It’s been used as an antibiotic for thousands of years in some parts of the world, and was even feted as a god in ancient Egypt. The ‘Codex Ebers’ – a papyrus dated from 2,600 BC – recommends its use for 22 different ailments, and six heads of garlic were actually found enclosed in the sarcophagus of Tut-an-Kamen, when it was opened in 1922.

That’s not to say that garlic wasn’t unpopular in some quarters, even then. The Muslim faith has it that when Satan left the Garden of Eden, a clove of garlic sprang up where he had planted his left foot – perhaps that’s where the legend originated that vampires and werewolves are unable to pass through openings protected by it.

Even so, the pyramid builders were each given a clove a day, to sustain their health and strength, and ancient Greeks also swore by its use. During the two world wars of last century, it was used to treat gangrene and dysentery, mainly because Louis Pasteur had, in 1858, confirmed that garlic had antibacterial properties, and it was far cheaper than penicillin!

The noxious smell that comes with fresh garlic – which puts so many people off – is the result of cutting or crushing it, but those are the very actions that stimulate the release of the all-important enzyme, Allinase. This breaks down the amino-acid Allicin, which is the miracle worker, in its medicinal properties.

Garlic isn’t without its dangers, though. Roman satirist Horace declared it ‘more poisonous than hemlock’ and said it made him ill, and it can indeed produce heartburn and flatulence if taken on an empty stomach. Nor is it recommended for children under 12 – immature digestive systems – or for menstruating women, because it can increase menstrual bleeding.

However, research has shown that garlic reduces cholesteral levels, can destroy listeria and salmonella, reduce blood pressure and generally protect the heart. Last year, researchers at the University of North Carolina found that those who ate raw or cooked garlic reduced the risk of stomach cancer by half.

It seems obvious that are pros and cons to the use of garlic, but the benefits seem to far outweigh the only perceived ‘disadvantage’, namely the lingering smell on your breath. Doesn’t it seem odd to you that Latin men – reputedly red-hot lovers – are usually brought up accepting it as a normal part of their diet? Perhaps it forms a big part of their sexual stamina.

As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t matter if you’re big or small, as long as you enjoy good health, and anything I can do to help that along is fine with me. To hell with this so-called image. Garlic tastes good, and even smells enticing when frying gently in the pan, so the whiff of it on someone’s breath doesn’t put me off at all.

Nature dictated that we should be as we are, and if we can accept that, as well as being happy to dip into the versatile medicine chest that she so happily provides for us, then that makes us better people, leading naturally healthy lives. So think positive about your diet, and feel sorry or those who don’t like the smell of your breath. They’re the losers, after all.

An article tracing the origins of my 27 years of vegetarianism.

Why am I vegetarian? I think this is a very difficult question and not something that a glib, try my lifestyle, response can answer. I am 48 years old and when and where I was young there was no such thing as vegetarianism. Or so I thought. My parents pushed meat on me because they genuinely thought it was good, if not essential for me to eat.

Those were days of little or no choice and at mealtimes you were sat down and you ate what you were given. Now that I have children of my own I can actually see a lot of merit in that but that is another blog all on its own. My earliest memories are of not liking meat and getting in to trouble for it. This of course was not a life choice but just a matter of taste.

I had a hierarchy of meats and fish that I could just about cope with and it went like this

Pork sausage, bacon, tinned beef burgers, spam (spam spam spam spam beautiful spam etc.), corned beef, fish cakes and fish fingers…………….. These things I quite liked (the junkier end of meat).

Battered fish, well cooked beef, mince………….I could just about cope with.

Proper fish, chicken, pork, lamb, liver, kidney ………………….. Not at any price.

We never had other sea food or steak but I did come across these as I got a bit older. When I was 18 plus and started to eat in restaurants I would order a steak well done and I think it was ok but I could never say I liked it. Once when I was in Paris aged 20 I inadvertently ordered and ate a horse burger. If I am honest it didn’t taste so bad but I became vegetarian shortly after this.

When I was 21 my wife (at the time) and I became aware of vegetarianism through my sister and we decided to try it for a week. It was quite hard as there were no substitute meals so lentils figured a lot. After the week we said we would do it after we had used up things like beef burgers in the freezer. I can remember to this day my wife putting out a dinner and we just looked at it and threw it away.

How has fast-food affected our society over the past years? What impact has it had on our economy, food and culture? Is fast-food all BAD or are there benefits which deprive from it? What is the origin to fast-food?

Fast food is an enormous chain of food which is affecting our society and is having a huge impact on our environment, economy other factors. Fast food was first recorded or started in 1867, Charles Feltman, a German butcher who opened up the first hot dog stand and began selling food which could be quickly prepared and cooked, mainly burgers etc. This is where the term fast-food originated from and in 1940, the food chain most associated with fast-food; McDonald’s founded by Dick and Mac McDonald opened.

Over the years now fast food has become more and more popular, because it is twice as cheap as any other meal and it is extremely quick. Therefore having a huge impact on society and the way we live. Numerous people are now using fast-food as an excuse because it is an easy way out of cooking and saving money. Whilst recently fast-food has been widely discriminated because we are now aware of the impacts and the factors involved in fast-food, we are now more aware of what impact fast-food has had on our society.

Economically as mentioned before, fast-food is an easy excuse for cheap and quick food and that is why more and more people desire fast food more than other restaurants making them go out of business because of the price comparison, especially in the price crunch we are having now. Also therefore linking into health problems, when more restaurants are going out of business to these fast-food chains, people are ending up in having no option but go to these fast-food chains and resulting in health problems and therefore larger sums of money having to be spent on obesity and health problems; heart attacks and cholesterol problems for example.

Fast-food is also affecting our society because now that it is possible because these fast-food chains are offering such quick service that you can now buy food whilst in the car, more people going out to eat other than making food at home, plus the pollution the trucks are putting out to supply all the fast food chains with the food like the burgers, fries etc. Along with the pollution the restaurant is giving off itself whilst making the food.

Health problems are probably one of the most known problems that fast food does to you because in general, fast-food is extremely bad for you, because they basically fry everything and the large amounts of fat and salt added to make it easier to cook all add up. These large amounts of fat and saturated fat can lead to heart attack (cardiac arrest) plus the cholesterol which clogs up your arteries, plus many other diseases like diabetes and Kidney Stones from all the soda which they offer you. This then can lead to more people going off work and larger amounts of money having to be spent on hospitals and health.

Environmentally also fast-food has gone as far to affect, because these growing number of fast-food restaurants and the demand for fast food has because thousand of trees and rain forest to be cut down; destroying animal habitats to make room for fast food restaurant. Plus all of the forests being tore down to make way for cattle so that there is a supply of meat and beef for the burgers. The worse our economy gets, and the more people coming to eat at places that offer fast-food makes it more likely that there will be a need for more restaurants and cattle farms damaging the environment even more.

Disease and bacteria in many cases have been because of these fast-food chains. The meat they provide at fast-food restaurants is often infected by disease and more common than not: mad cow disease. Cows at the farms where the meat is provided are often very tight to fit as many as possible and often little care is taken for the cows. Mainly this is because these fast-food chains try to not lose any money so they decide to get all the meat they can off of every single cow, diseased or not making disease spread even quicker.

In conclusion I think that fast-food has and is affecting our society enormously and if it isn’t too late already, we have to start dealing with the problem at hand. These fast-food chains are affecting our society and damaging our planet, and most importantly changing the way we live. Therefore it is important we understand whilst these fast-food chains offer a solution for a quick and cheap meal, which may taste nice, however is not an excuse to what it is doing to our society.

Once considered a cheap banal meat for the unsophisticated rural palate venison is now being recognized as a truly healthy mouth watering delight for every game gourmet and aficionado.

The term venison was originally used to describe the meat of any animal killed by hunting. Today however; the term venison is taken to exclusively mean the meat from any one of a number of species of deer regardless of whether it is hunted or farmed.

Venison Changing Attitudes

Up until recently; in the United States, venison was regarded as a meat for unsophisticated rural dwellers. This attitude is rapidly changing with venison now being promoted to urbanites as a meat no less exotic than ostrich meat. Cuts of venison typically eaten include: steaks, roasts, sausages, jerky and even minced meat.

Venison Advantages and Benefits

With a flavor somewhat like that of beef; but much leaner, and with short and tender meat fibers venison consumption is rapidly expanding. Two critical factors accelerating this trend are the very low fat content of venison and its comparatively cheaper cost to the consumer.

Being lower in calorific, cholesterol and fat content than most cuts of beef, pork and lamb venison is being recommended by nutritionists to those wishing to lose weight as well as those who need to rigorously adhere to as fat free a diet as possible. This later group includes those with liver disease (for example hepatitis).

Venison Production and Marketing

Venison is widely available in European supermarkets throughout the traditional European hunting season, (October to December) with the main cuts offered for retail sales being derived from the saddle and the hind leg. Diced New Zealand venison is also readily available in frozen form in most European supermarkets.

Venison and Chronic Wasting Disease (CWS)

New Zealand; a country widely recognized as being free from Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), is currently the number one producer of all cuts of farmed venison globally. CWD is a transmissible form of spongiform encephalopathy in deer very similar to Mad Cow Disease (MCD).

Venison in the United States

Due to a greater demand than supply of home-grown venison as a result of the limited number of abattoirs in the United States that process venison most venison offered for retail sales in North America also comes from New Zealand. What little home-grown product that does exist, is rapidly taken by the restaurant market long before the retail comes into the picture.

Not only are eggs from free range hens better tasting, but they are actually healthier for you. Plus the hens have better lives. These are several good reasons for picking free range egg.

There is a lot of debate about what is “free range” and what isn’t. The legalities of the definition vary depending on what country you are in. In some places it just means the birds are outside for part of the day (often in dirt yards). In my own world, it means they are in a chicken coop at night for their own safety, but let loose in the yard where there is grass, for the day.

Generaly “free range” and “cage free” are more humane for the birds than battery farms, but still is not what people really think of when they think of free range.

Above we see birds loose in a factory farm, this is not what most people consider “free range” and would normally be “cage free” in any case I am not referring to the eggs from these poor birds who are still fed a commercial ration, rather the information I am providing is in relationship to birds who really are able to get out and free range on pasture or in the yard and fed a more natural diet.

What thrills me, as a keeper of my own free range hens, is that there have been studies done to prove that real free range eggs really are healthier for you to eat.

Brown Eggs or White?

Brown egg shells or white egg shells do not indicate the quality of the egg inside. It only indicates the type of chicken that the egg came from. It is not even an indicator of free range status, or what the hens eat. There are even blue and green eggs, which come from certain breeds of chickens, such as Araucanas.

Health Benefits of Real Free Range Eggs

Real free range eggs are often fresher, as with most foods the fresher the foods the healthier they will be. It is often possible to buy free range eggs directly from the farmer, from a farmers market, or in my case, I just take them from my hens every morning. Please note, my hens do not have roosters with them, so it is not like I am stealing their babies, they are of a breed that does not pay attention to their eggs after laying them.

Free range eggs have been found to be lower in cholesterol, by as much as 30%.

Free range eggs contain 2 times more Vitamin A and E.

Free range eggs are alkaline. Battery hen eggs are acidic. Studies have shown that diets higher in alkaline foods are likely to prevent cancer.

Free range eggs have twice as much Omega-3 Fatty Acid. This is very likely due to the hens having a more varied diet.

Free range eggs have ¼ of saturated fat than do battery hen eggs.

Free range eggs have 5 times more Beta Carotene.

Benefits for the Chickens

Free range chickens are able to eat a diet closer to their natural diet, this includes a variety of bugs and fresh greens.

Free range hens are less stressed and fight less.

Free range hens get sunlight, fresh air, and other things that contribute to a healthier animal.

Free range hens have something under their feet, other than painful wire.

Free range hens are allowed to sit on their eggs until they are ready to get off. In battery situations the eggs roll away from them as the wire cages are on a slant.

The hens have more mentally stimulating lives, surely something they appreciate.

Other Benefits

Free range eggs often come from local sources, it is considered more environmentally friendly to buy food from local sources. In fact this can be so local, it is your own back yard! Unless you live in the country, you need to check local bylaws.

Free range chickens eat bugs, like flies, grasshoppers, and mosquitoes, they also love dandelions, even more than grass.

Many local farmers keep a few hens as extra side income. By supporting them you contribute to the local economy; in comparison many battery farms are now becoming corporate factory farms, with money going to head offices.

When you support keeping birds in less cruel environments, you put a dent in the battery hen industry.

Battery Hens?

At one day of age they are sexed, the females are vaccinated, their wings and beaks cut. They are put into small cages to grow, since they will not start laying until 4 or 5 months of age, often their diet will include hormones to speed up their development. When the hens reach laying age, two or three birds are put together into tiny wire cages, about the size of a large cat carrier. See the link at the bottom to read more.

They are under artificial light, they will never see the sun, or feel grass under their feet. The barns are hot, and smelly, with low air quality. The birds will be killed at about 1/15 of their normal lifespan, basically because they go into a natural molt at this time and temporarily stop laying. This is no way to treat an animal that provides us with food. Especially when we learn that the better we treat the birds, we actually get healthier eggs.

Final Words

Remeber birds on commercial factory-type farms are fed cheap commercial diets, this results in less nutrition in their eggs than birds that are given a better diet and allowed to eat grass, weeds, and bugs.

Visually the free range eggs look better, the yolks are darker and stand up fuller. I find they taste better too.

If you can put a dent in the cruel practice of battery hen farming, and serve up healthier eggs, then why wouldn’t you?

In the last two segments, I have talked about dietary factors from my own hard experience. You can’t learn everything the first half a dozen diets around, but you can learn where you screw up and take the learned lessons into the next diet.

This time around, I have brought with me into battle the acute awareness of cholesterol and hidden salt traps. Most women know about water retention and the bloated feeling, but cholesterol isn’t something we normally “feel”. Now I know what the RDA of cholesterol is, I know I need to measure it. The lower my “bad” cholesterol, the shorter my journey becomes to the finish line.

Last diet around, I learned about the value of lemon in your water . It seems bitter or sour foods stimulate the liver to produce bile, and that helps to remove bad cholesterol and fats from your body. The process is a bit scientific, but worth reading up on. Water can also be dangerous if you’re not careful!

Two diets before, I brought in the knowledge of vitamins and essential fats that do a whole host of wonderful things for your body. They reduce inflammation (I discovered this with my carpal tunnel/overuse syndrome by accident), pick up your mood by feeding it “good” fats it needs, and naturally curbs your appetite. They also help lower triglycerides and bad cholesterol as well as lowering your blood pressure. They also help to prevent blood clots. There is a whole laundry list of positive effects omega-3 can do for our bodies.

There are diet fads I’ve decided they are worse off than they claim to be. For instance, if you’re to believe the information about red wine, well then there are some caveats you need to think about.

By now, every woman has heard of what’s called the “French diet”, which claims French women are not fat and nor do they get fat. That’s a lie and I bet it’s a creation of the wine manufacturers to boost sales figures. French women aren’t fat because they eat fresh, healthy foods, they do drink wine, but they also move! France has a good transportation system and many take advantage of it, plus if you’ve ever noticed, they have a lot of bicycles and they rollerblade in a special section of the city on Friday nights. They move, and that’s why they’re not fat. We jump in our cars, drive to Burger King, and we drink four ounces of wine and wonder why we’re not getting skinny!

Another major flaw in the win drinking solving all problems has to do with the amount of red wine a person actually must consume to gain the supposed benefits. Should your intake be high enough to match the effects on mice then you’re bound to suffer from cirrhosis of the liver. Not my idea of a good trade off!

I read (and followed) one diet that required you to drink one ounce of water per pound of body weight you carry. At the time, I was two hundred pounds, so that meant I needed to drink 200 ounces of water, amounting to over six liters of water per day. That advice turned out to be near fatal for me, and what I want to warn you about. I’d much rather have you learn from my dumb mistakes than make your own that could result in tragedy.

Reading this weekend an article from a doctor saying you can’t drink too much water pushed me into writing this article. I also emailed the site and informed him the advice he had given was wrong and dangerous and why it was bad.

"Can we get too much water? Not easily; your body is naturally mostly water. Your blood is mostly water. Your food is mostly water. Your bowels and kidneys require water for excretion of wastes. Why, you were conceived in an aquatic environment. Too little water is associated with kidney stones, urinary tract infections, febrile illness, dehydration, and worse.

So drink yourself slim."

This is the dumbest advice on the planet. We are all trained to think of water as our friend, and it is, but there is truth in the old axiom of, “you can get too much of a good thing”.

I was consuming six liters of water a day, trying to flush out as much fat as I could. I was eating, taking vitamins, and watching my fat and salt intake. One day, I felt physically weird, but I figured it was nothing more than the process of flushing fat and toxins out of your body. Every woman has been through this stage where you feel so lousy and sick you want to stop the diet just so you can feel better. Emotionally, you know you have to ride the detoxification wave until it’s finished, but most of us stop after a few weeks because we’re tired of being sick, tired, mentally foggy and generally lethargic. I kept drinking water, knowing I had to be near the end of the wave since it had been two weeks.

It was around 8 PM when the first signs of something seriously wrong set in. I felt dizzy, confused, and shaky. As the symptoms grew stronger, I got terrified; it was nothing like I had ever experienced before in my life. I had enough sense still left in me, so I got on the computer and started to search on my symptoms. I accidentally stumbled across a mention of something called “water drowning” and “ water overdose ”. These conditions perfectly outlined my symptoms and also stated it could be fatal if not treated. I didn’t know what to do because I had no insurance and I couldn’t pay for the bills, so I called the emergency room and confessed I didn’t have insurance and needed help. Their advice? “Sit back and ride it out – you’ll be fine.” I was glad I didn’t listen or else I probably would’ve died.

In a last ditch effort to avoid the emergency room and bills I knew I’d never be able to afford, I called a friend and told her what I had done. She started to walk me through the process and I’m convinced to this day, pulled my bacon from the fire.

By this time, I was becoming seriously confused and desperately struggling to keep focus. She told me to start eating salt. I didn’t have any salt in the house, but then remembered the salt packets from Wendy’s take out sitting in a drawer. With my hands shaking almost uncontrollably, I ripped open the packet and most spilled onto the floor, but there was enough in my hand to start licking. Laurie began to ask me what I had for food in the house, and as I told her, the room started spinning as the muscles began to violently contract in my legs and neck. I was eating spinach and salt, and trying hard to breathe. It felt like I was being strangled while having a heart attack, and it wasn’t until that moment that I realized how strong the will to live is so deeply embedded into who and what we are.

“Do you have Gatoraide in the house, Sue?!” I hate that stuff – it’s nasty as nasty can be, but my friend Fred and left two bottles in the house about a year and a half ago. I struggled with all I had in me to shake the contents and remove the cap. My tongue went stiff and my mouth went into “cotton mode”, and I was having difficulty swallowing. In the end, I was able to get down a teaspoon every five minutes. As I started coming back to my senses, I realized I had chicken in the house. “Eat it, Sue – your body needs the salt and protein. I don’t care how long it takes you to eat, keep at it until it’s all gone.”

I spent the next six hours fighting to stay awake, afraid I was going to relapse and die alone in my sleep. Eventually I stopped clutching my Bible and trusted in God to see me through to the next morning if it was His will for my life.

The next day I did wake up, but I had horrible all over body cramps. I called another friend of mine who has potassium problems and started to pick her brain about what happened to her when her potassium got too low. She described many of the same symptoms – the most recognizable one was not being able to keep my head up and nearly falling over onto the kitchen floor more times than I care to remember. So I went out later that day and bought some magnesium and potassium, but turns out it was almost a shock to my system and I developed a lot of the same symptoms from the night before. Unfortunately, I was in for another long night by trying to overcompensate.

Potassium, sodium, and magnesium…all had been seriously depleted with the advice of a diet guru who probably never stopped to think about the damaging recommendations he was giving out. Potassium controls the electrical impulses the brain sends to the muscle. Magnesium controls the ability of the muscles to contract and relax. Salt is a necessary evil that helps to control blood pressure and used in the muscles.

I have since set a rule for myself that seems to be working well on this diet. I suggest you find the largest cup you can (or buy one) that will contain no more than 40 ounces of water. Fill the cup up twice, and when you’re done, that’s it! Do not consume any more water. This will give you the recommended 64 ounces of water, and then a little bit more, but not enough to get your body into trouble. I’m also assuming you’re eating a sensible, balanced diet and your doctor has okayed you for it.

There are some diet plans out there that have said you should drink 100 ounces of water a day, but from experience, that’s not exactly easy to do – and I’m a water fiend! I’m not a doctor and your health is your own responsibility, but I’m conveying this information to you so you don’t end up making the same mistake I did. There are a lot of quacks out there dispensing advice, but I recommend you do two things:

Investigate the supplements you might want to take

Bring them to your physician and discuss your own ability to health issues that might prohibit you from taking them.

Also ask your physician if you can keep a bottle of Gatoraide in your house and consume it without screwing up your body. It contains a high bit of sugar that could be a problem for a diabetic. If that is the case, ask your provider for an acceptable alternative that won’t send your sugar soaring and your body into shock.
