Security agencies conned into issuing fake May six terror alert?

Were Indian security agencies conned into issuing the May 6 terror alert when photographs of four traders and a security guard from Pakistan were splashed as those of Lashkar terrorists who had sneaked into India to carry out attacks in Mumbai?

As the government probes the embarrassment which on Sunday sparked protests from traders in Lahore, they are closely looking at the possibility of an Indian intelligence operative having been hoaxed by Pakistani tricksters who have been seeking to exploit India’s anxiety to prevent terror attacks from across the border.

Sources in the government said that post-26/11, conmen have been approaching Indian agencies and journalists; in one case even a politician, offering “credible information” for money.

The usual modus operandi is to offer “information”; for instance a photograph of what is claimed to be an ISI facility or a terrorist training camp at an undisclosed location deep inside Pakistan. Although the veracity of “inputs” cannot be ascertained, Indian agencies with their dire need for intelligence on terror plots are compelled not to disregard them. Confidence gained, the tricksters are in business, regularly peddling information for amounts which have increased considerably after the attack on Mumbai.

Only in this instance, the swindlers artfully raised their game by passing off photographs of the “terrorists” who had sneaked in Mumbai via the sea route and the details of their plan to target Mumbai. The Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) deemed the intelligence so sensitive and credible that it was instantly shared with the Intelligence Bureau, leading the Multiple Agency Centre to alert police in Maharashtra and Gujarat against what appeared to be an attempt to repeat 26/11. Sources don’t rule out the possibility of “sources” having been even handsomely rewarded for the information.

In the event, three of the terrorists turned out to be mobile phone traders operating from Lahore’s popular electronic market Hafeez Centre. Another member of the group is an employee with one of the shops, while the remaining one is a security guard working there.

All of them approached Lahore Police for protection after they got to know about reports in Indian media about the alert against their presence in Mumbai for a major terrorist attack.

The bungle, which has many in Pakistan gloating, has led to calls for setting up a national data base of intelligence sources who could regularly be audited for credibility. It has also underlined India’s continuing inability to access reliable real-time information on Pakistan-based terror groups who represent a major security challenge.

With no credible network of their own in Pakistan, Indian agencies are forced to depend on paid contacts, many of them smugglers and petty criminals, who move across the border and return with sensational claims for a payment. It is feared that the shadowy set could well be working for agencies in Pakistan too. In fact, many in the Indian security establishment suspect that one such double agent could be behind the May 6 fraud perpetrated on RAW.

Yet, intelligence agencies are compelled to remain engaged with the cross-border operatives who, besides being paid, are also allowed to carry on with their criminal activities. “These cross-border contacts seem to know the helplessness of our agencies, and are adept at exploiting it,” an official said.

So there is no let up in the flow of “information” from “Pakistani contacts”. Just before Republic Day this year, RAW came up with a sensational claim that over 100 Pakistan-trained terrorists had gathered at various launch pads across the international border and Line of Control, waiting for an opportunity to sneak into India. These terrorists were to target Mumbai and Delhi. Of them, some 20 were trained for underwater operations, the alert claimed. After several rounds of meetings in the security establishment, serious questions emerged about the credibility of the information, leading RAW to quietly withdaw the alert.

A similar “intelligence” industry exists, although on a much smaller scale, along the Bangladesh border too. Last year, the West Bengal police “sourced” photographs of two alleged terrorists who were planning to attack Mumbai. A detailed scrutiny revealed that the photographs were fake.

In fact, Assam police for years kept issuing alarming terror alerts based on their cross-border contacts. They have stopped doing so after an overwhelming majority of warnings turned out to be spurious.

Nothing is more sour tasting and evil-sounding then the word gentrification. Even the people who practice it cringe when it’s mentioned. Gentrification is the process of renewal and rebuilding that accompanies the influx of middle-class or affluent people into deteriorating areas/communities, which often displaces lower income residents. When a person first thinks about, it doesn’t sound like it’s such a bad thing. Who wouldn’t want to renovate abandoned areas into something more useful and productive; Rebuild decaying, run-down communities and give them a more livelier and livable atmosphere? It all sounds pleasing, but the key word to why it is a social problem is in the definition- gentrification displaces lower income residents, who are disproportionally minorities such as women and people of color. Displacement in itself is a social problem that can be defined as a process whereby families and residents have their housing choices constrained by the actions of another social group. It is a form of modern day segregation.

Gentrification as a defined and measurable social problem:

Gentrification meets all the qualities of a social problem. It has been defined as a condition that threatens the values of minority groups, specifically cultural and social values. It effects a large number of people, with a conservative estimate of 2.5 million people being displaced in the U.S. per year (LeGates and Hartman, 1986 US).

Where Gentrification Manifests & Who it Affects:

Gentrification manifests in metropolitan cities such as New York, Philadelphia, London, Seattle, and Miami. Downtown Miami is a prime example of Gentrification; the Design District, Bayside, the Marlin’s Baseball Stadium, and Brickell have been or are going to be gentrified here in Miami, Florida. Low-income houses are turned into condominiums or luxury housing available for purchase, malls and high-end entertainment complexes are built, old buildings and residences are torn down, and the upper class begin to flock to these areas. Area property values skyrocket to the point that displacement occurs.

Those affected most are low-income families and residents, the elderly, female headed households and middle class blue collar workers. The extent to which those that are effected by gentrification and displacement is not limited to just the economic realm, gentrification often involves a change in a neighborhood’s racial and ethnic composition, which further alters a communities characteristics, leading to potential tension within the community. Those that are displaced may end up homeless due too harassment and eviction and lack of affordable housing.

The Consequences & Social, Psychological, and Health Costs of Gentrification:

There is a broad range of consequences that can arise from gentrification. Services that the displaced groups rely on are also at great risk of becoming overpriced or lost all together. Homelessness is increased as affordable housing disappears and unsustainable speculative property prices increase. Gentrification does not only affect the area which was gentrified. Gentrification of one neighbourhood can increase rent and prices and have other effects on surrounding neighbourhoods.

Gentrification also has a range of social and psychological costs. Gaps in mutual social support structures are left in the wake of displacement. The sustainability of community networks are threatened. There’s also a strong racial component as the majority of new, higher-income residents are white and the former, lower-income residents are racial or ethnic minorities. This change can lead to tensions along racial or ethnic lines in the gentrified neighborhood (Kennedy and Leonard 2001). With gentrification comes a huge loss of social diversity and mix and a very apparent segregation of classes, which causes community conflict & resentment, among other issues.

In terms of the health of a community, gentrification has a myriad of negative consequences. Socioeconomic status, land use, environmental injustice, and race/ethnicity all create disparities in the health of the community. Displacement in itself has many negative health consequences that contribute to disparities among member of racial/ethnic minorities, the poor, women, children, and the elderly (special populations). These members of special populations have an increased risk of health issues due to the negative consequences of gentrification. Studies show that they typically have shorter life expectancy, higher cancer rates, greater infant mortality rates, and more birth defects than non-vulnerable populations. They also have a greater incidence of diabetes, asthma, and cardiovascular disease.

Strategies to Minimize the Negative Consequences:

We must create a equitable living environments and communities designed with intention and the belief that communities are not just for residential/commercial use, but areclusters of opportunity. Affordable housing for all incomes must be available. Mixed-income communities can be developed, which would offer a range of housing prices. Incentives, such as tax cuts or breaks, could be given to developers, planners, and local governments who aim to minimize displacement. Inclusionary zoning policies can be enacted, which is a policy strategy that requires developers to make a percentage of the rental or for-sale units in housing developments for low- and moderate-income residents. Most importantly, we must engage the community. They need to be fully allowed to provide input into the design and redevelopment of their community. In this way, we can change the process of gentrification into the process of building just, equal communities of opportunity.

When I have leisure, leisure to think, I love to think about how our future is gonna be. So I want to share my thought with you guys........

Does anybody know how the future of the human being is going to be? What is going to happen in far or sooner future? What are we gonna face? How long would our future last?

Many writers wrote about the future in their stories or short articles. We read lots of science fiction books where future is imaginable. The future of the space is described there. Well, those are just writer’s thoughts. They have different descriptions in each stories.

How would be our billion of years later time? Maybe there will be earth still with us, the humans. Or there will be some other kind of living creatures anchestored by us? Or there will be just us with 4 hands, 5 legs or 4 eyes……….

Shall we meet the aliens in the future or we will find that there is no other creatures in the space without us. Maybe we will reach the highest science inventions like teleportations, time machine and stuff like that. Maybe our cars will fly at that time.

Going to one place from another will take no time. Maybe no traffic jams. Our houses would may turn into odd but much more comfortable. After losing space in the land, people would start building houses up on the sky.

Human will may start living under the water as with fishes and under world creature also.

Travelling outer space would be as easy as visiting a neighbour. Maybe human would make their foot steps on other planets. Or how about thinking they started to live on other planets as well. Maybe also in milky way galaxy?

I believe, human would reach the best technology.

Well, maybe we will find out there are aliens. We will start friends with them or maybe they would come to war with us. Maybe human beings will be destroyed by aliens or maybe we will destroy them.

Maybe robots will take over our earth.

Maybe the future human would think how bad our technology was(current time) like we think about our anchestors.

It will be cool to see space stations, space hotels in the future. People will park their spaceship in the outer space. Or spend few days in the space hotels.

SPACE HOTEL

Maybe there will be spaceships of the future which can go as with the speed of electricity. So there will be time-machines.

There are lots of possibillities we can think of. It’s fun to think.

I couldn’t describe all I think about future here but I wish you understood me. Thanks!

Racial profiling is a big part of police work. Is Racial profiling ethical or unethical?

We all have heard of racial profiling. Racial profiling is a tactic that many police officers use to bring the crime rate down. They may focus on the inner city communities and stop individuals with clothing that they consider to be gang affiliated. Some seem to thing that racial profiling is very useful. They believe that stopping minorities will result in an decrease in crime. Let’s take a look at this. Suppose you and a friend was walking down the street and a police officer asked you for your ID and where do you live. The police officer walks over to you and tells you that you look that you belong to a gang that has been conducting drive by shootings. You tell the officer that he is mistaken and he doesn’t accept your statement. he reads you your Miranda Rights and takes you in on his assumptions. Keep in mind that you are a Latin American and know that you have just experience discrimination and the officer just stereotyped you. Racial profiling is tricky and does seem to fall in the unethical category.

Some members of society will not tolerate racial profiling and officers find it difficult to get cooperation from the community when it comes to this tactic. They may patrol neighborhoods and ask questions about serious crimes with little to no cooperation. Africa Americans think that racial profiling is just another way to discriminate on minorities. When police use this tactic they feel offended and display frustrations. Racial profiling may benefit the police in some ways but it is also a thorn in their side as well. Should the police continue to use this tactic? The answer is merely opinionated and the results may be bleak. I believe racial profiling is not going anywhere, whether we agree or not.

I don't think I'll ever be fully satisfied in discovering all the untapped truths in America.

Do you ever feel like you don’t know America? I mean with 50 states that range from urban to suburban, coastal to rural, mountainous to ugly ass cornfields in Nebraska, there’s so much going on, so much diversity not just in the people, but how it manifests as architecture, as cities, as community.

Sometimes I’m surprised when my college friends from smaller towns than the Springs say something like, “We used to have a Taco Bell, but then it closed down.” A Taco Bell. “A” Taco Bell. As if only having one isn’t itself a tragedy in light of the dozens littering Colorado Springs.

I think that’s part of why “The Disappeared” disturbed me so much last week. That insinuation that there’s some sort of deep, festering truth embedded in American culture from which I remain isolated after having grown in such a suburban area, venturing out just to nearby states like Texas or Oklahoma.

Space exploration is exciting stuff and the sea does have its astounding depth, but it’s like there are these vast reaches of unexplored territory within our nation’s borders. Though a “nation,” to be more accurate, is defined as a group of people with a shared culture and history. I think that’s where the true mystery lies. How different am I from someone in New York? Are they going to beat me up for watching My Little Pony? Do we take for granted all those assumed commonalities “LOL, TRAFFIC IS ANNOYING AND EVERYONE THINKS SO!”, exaggerate their reach? Are there such things a Bostonian experiences on a daily basis that I just wouldn’t “get”? Why the fuck doesn’t Colorado have its own signature food like the Philly cheesesteak? How come wrestling promotions shut down left and right here but thrive in the Northeast?

I have inklings of information for all those questions, but not enough to fully satisfy myself. That’s why I can’t settle down. That’s why so much rides on being successful as a writer and pursuing professional wrestling. I won’t go through life wondering what a genuine Philly cheesesteak tastes like.

Urban sprawl has become a more pressing problem here is an overview of it.

Poorly planned development that spreads a city’s population over a wider and wider geographical area is called urban sprawl. As outlying areas become more populated, the land between them and city fills in as well

In the United States and Canada, urban sprawl is becoming a matter of increasing concern. From 1970 to 1990, people who worked in U.S. cities moved farther and farther from urban centers. The population density of cities in the United States decreased by more than 20 percent as people in cities moved to suburbs and outlying areas. About 30,000 square miles of rural lands were gobbled up by housing developments. For example, the population of the city of Chicago decreased during this period from 3.4 million people to 2.8 million. But the Chicago metropolitan area grew from about 7.0 million persons to 7.3 million.

Canada is less populated than the United States but faces similar problems in the 1990’s, more than 75 percent of all Canadians lived in urban areas.

Sprawl occurs in metropolitan areas that allow unrestricted growth or that have no plans to contain it. Other factors include the widespread use of automobiles and the building of expressways. Autos and relatively cheap gasoline enable Americans to drive many miles to and from their jobs. Despite clogged highways and long commutes, Americans their cars to mass transit. Expressways provide the means for continued reliance on the automobile.

Yet, despite sprawl, there are many reasons why Americans have moved to suburbs. Some people want open spaces or better schools and housing. Still others want to try to recapture the sense of community they experienced while growing up. They want their children to know their neighbors and have a backyard in which to play. Only recently have urban planners started to design big city neighborhoods to give a sense of community, hoping to slow the flight to the suburbs.

Urban sprawl has a negative impact on the quality of life in many ways. As suburbs grow, more commuter traffic strains the infrastructure. Infrastructure consists of the basic facilities, services, and machinery needed for a community to function. For example, roads and bridges need maintenance. More cars on the road for more time add to air pollution, too. Also, sources of water, such as rivers or underground aquifers, become depleted.

Urban sprawl also has other costs. The cost of providing streets, utilities, and other public facilities to suburban communities is often at least 25 per cent higher than for high density residences in a city. Urban sprawl also separates classes of people. When those in upper income brackets choose to live in outlying areas, lower income residents often become isolated in inner city areas.

Image via Wikipedia

Solutions to Sprawl

More and more cities are developing plans for smart growth, which is the efficient use and conservation of land and other resources. Most often this involves encouraging development close to or inside the limits of existing cities. Good public transportation systems help to make smart growth possible by cutting down on auto traffic.

In 1979, the city of Portland, Oregon, drew a line around itself to create an urban growth boundary. Building was allowed inside the boundary. The surrounding green space was off limits to developers. This decision caused controversy but was paid off. Portland has contained urban sprawl.

Since 1961, Vancouver, British Columbia, has seen the population of its metropolitan area double. The growth of outlying suburbs often took place at the expense of forests, farms, and flood plains. In 1995, the Greater Vancouver Regional Board adopted a plan to manage growth. It involved turning suburbs into sustainable communities, that is, communities where residents could live and work. The same solution was applied to Vancouver’s downtown area, where about 40 percent of its residents no walk to work. This has cut down on commuting.

In some metropolitan areas, citizens have banded together to offer their own solutions to urban sprawl. For example, citizens in Durham, North Carolina, opposed additional commercial development along a congested area of a nearby interstate highway. They formed CAUSE-Citizens against Urban Sprawl Everywhere. The organization is working against sprawl through education and political activism.

From a young age, we study up till high school. Matters regarding which school to attend have never cross our mind due to we're not given a chance to choose. However, when we get to choose for our tertiary studies, it often causes headaches. For the few lucky ones, parents are always there to arrange. Before we proceed to the factors to consider before choosing the right college/ university, you should have an idea of which field you want to be involve in the future.

Location

Most of us overlook this factor when considering which college/university to enrol. This is very important because the safety of your upcoming few years relies on your decision. For example, if you choose to be enrol into a university located in a rural area far away from home, who will come to your rescue when you faces any emergency? Being in a city doesn’t mean you’re any safer too. Rate of reported cases such as robberies, traffic accidents, snatch thieves are often higher in busy cities compare to rural areas. Henceforth, this factor should be considered carefully before deciding on which college/ university.

Fees

Tuition fees should be reasonable and affordable to ease the burden of your parents. You can always enquire if there is any financial aid provided by the college/university fow low income families or scholarships offered for good academic results. This would also help you in determining your target / goal in your academic result.

Recognition

It is very important that after you’ve graduated, the certification that you’re awarded is recognised in your country, or better if it is internationally recognise. Look at the current status of the previous students of a choosen university/ college. Which company are they working in? A recognised academic institution should have a number of students working in big organisations / listed companies.

Courses offered / Specialty

After all the consideration above, , it would be useless if the course you intend to take is not offered in the chosen college/ university. You can always look through the list of courses offered so that you’ll have a better picture when you’re required to choose a major in the later year. You can also choose a college/ university base on the college/university’s specialty. For example, if you’ve chosen to be in the accountancy field, you should focus more on the colleges / universities that are well known for its profession in the accountancy field.

Decision

Finally, the decision for which should be the chosen college / university lies on you. You can also attend education fairs to enquire and seek advise from the professionals on your doubts. However, always bear in mind of the enrolment dates so that you would not miss it!

An explanation of the term "GeoDesign" and what it could mean for our future.

GeoDesign

GeoDesign is a design process that is based off of Ian McHarg’s book “Design With Nature”. The concepts of GeoDesign have been around for decades, but these concepts have more recently been combined with new and more powerful technology, as well as with each other. The improvement and development of new technologies, mainly ArcGIS and ArcSketch, have allowed designers to completely embrace the concepts and the benefits of GeoDesign.

The main factor of GeoDesign is the integration of analysis and design. New developments in GIS allow designers to input multiple design alternatives into GIS and this subjects each alternatives to a suitability analysis based on the geodata in the map. This allows designers to develop multiple alternatives and to easily analyze each one during the design process, resulting in designs that are tested for suitability throughout the design process. By designing in this manner, we are able to create “science-based” designs, rather than designing a complete site, then adjusting it slightly to fit the existing geography and natural systems. Integration of geographic science with design is crucial when designing places to suit the existing conditions and the natural systems. Geodesign is a process that uses concepts from landscape architecture, environmental studies, geography, and planning to accomplish this overall goal of “science-based” design and fitting seamlessly with natural systems.

The true power of GeoDesign lies in the ability to test sketches of alternatives extremely fast against a massive amount of data. The development of ArcSketch and CommunityViz allows designers to do many quick sketches of design alternatives and ideas. As soon as an alternative is sketched out using these programs, the computer can immediately test it for suitability based on the data for whatever criteria are the most important. This means that designs can be analyzed throughout the design process, and each part of the design can be analyzed, rather than just certain aspects that were thought of during the actual analysis process.

GeoDesign has the capacity to radically change how we design. New development plans can be put through this process, making “smart growth smarter”. The new plans will be based on much more accurate data, and designers have access to an incredible amount of data. Potentially the largest benefit is that the new design’s implications and effects on people, natural systems, and on the land are immediately recognized, and adjustments can be made very early in the design process.

Warnings have been issued for 9/11 regarding terroriest attacks or threats. Be aware and be alert to changes in the days before 9/11 and on 9/11.

Homeland Security and the FBI have issued an alert for small planes that may be used in attacks on 9/11/11. It is the ten year anniversary of the Twin Tower attack and everyone is on high alert. There are no special issues or positive threats, but everyone should be on alert. Small planes are the most accessible at the moment and can be flown from private airports under radar.

If the planes are loaded with explosives or chemicals for an attack, they can do major damage in a large city or community celebrations. Explosives are the biggest concern at the moment. Any small planes that refuses to identify themselves on 9/11 this year could be in serious trouble. All avenues are being watched in order to protect everyone in this country.

In case of chemical attack, it could cause major damage to cities with large populations and spread quickly across the country. If there is an attack, stay inside and wait for further instruction if you are not in the area. If you are in the area of the attack, leave. Remove yourself and family from the area quickly, but calmly.

Everyone in large cities and small towns need to be aware of unusual activity or requests on the days before and during 9/11. If you feel uncomfortable about a situation, contact your local law enforcement right away. Not only should you be aware of small aircraft, but if you see vehicles, vans or trucks in your area that are not normally there, report them to the authorities and let them investigate the situation.

If there is an attack, power could be out in the area for several days. Be sure to plan for water and food, emergency supplies and lighting. Have a family plan if you must leave and stay together during 9/11 celebration commemorations.

Be prepared to help with evacuation in an emergency or help with an emergency shelter. Providing food, clothing, bedding and stuffed toys for frightened children arriving from outside the area will help to comfort and calm nerves. Be kind and stay alert.

UPDATE: November 22, 2011

They’re still at it. But the media just won’t report the commonality in all of these. These young people are blacks. Why is making the observation considered “politically incorrect”? It’s the TRUTH!

A little History on real Flash Mobs First

Flash Mobs started out as a peaceful form of expression, often entertaining and sometimes even artistic.

But it seems there are some in this world who cannot tolerate such things and have to destroy them for every one simply by misusing a term. Media all around the country have taken this term and associated it with something very ugly.

More Accurate Terms

Wilding, Mob Fests or Swarms are older, more accurate terms for what these teen blacks are doing. Sometimes these mobs have gang connections and sometimes it’s just ordinary black youth. I have decided to post some links and see how many I accumulate over the summer. If any readers here have links to violent white, Asian or Mid-eastern youth groups behaving as badly, feel free to post them in comments.

The Charlie Sykes Show

Sunday, July 10, 2011 -On the Charlie Sykes Show, James T. Harris discusses the recent explosion of black teen mob violence in Milwaukee and across the country.

The first notable incident I found was in Philadelphia, March 2010.

Flashin’ in Philly

Then I heard about “Beat Whitey Night” at the Iowa State Fair in 2010

Des Moines, IA May 2011 – Interview with the Couple

The news reporting is careful not to mention the details because these Junior High students are from the second largest junior high in Iowa and it is comprised of 34.2% blacks, who represent a significant presence in the area of the report. Since the media refuses to include such things, we are left to do our own research.

Memorial Day 2011

I didn’t really start wondering about this until I heard about a whole series of them popping off this past Memorial Day all around the country. The media largely ignored the magnitude of it. Here is a summary of Memorial Day Weekend

Try to remember what “Flash Mobs” started out to be as you hear the media incorrectly label these as such. Try to pick up on the media’s politically correct buzz words like “youth” and “teen” and yes, even “Flash Mobs”. Just something else stolen from good people who just wanted to have a little light-hearted fun.
