On the 12th of January 1888 a blizzard labeled as the ‘Schoolchildren’s Blizzard’ killed 235 people, many of those victims were children returning home from school. The storm hit the Northwest Plains region of the United States with almost no warning, the temperature had been unseasonably warm until it plummeted by around 100 degrees (F) in just 24 hours.
