As Internet writers we strive to improve and keep working on making a friend along the way too. It is those introductions that bring the title to this one.

As people read the articles it is encouraging along with sometimes also rewarding to see a new person comment on material. It might be “Yawn”, however, what brought that comment was the title of the shared information. “You can’t please all of the people all of the time”, might pop in your head at first, but it is so necessary to re read that yucky comment that left the mouth open. In discovering the real reason why the write was submitted, that commenter had no idea what that purpose was that left the words for them to read. Just excuse their lack of finesse and courtesy. Really I thought we got rid of all the dead wood on Triond, but I can attest to you now, we didn’t. Extra friends like I just described are not welcome to return, but if they do, I’ll just delete him.

Now, on to the greatness of the math discovery of one and one being more than two. It is the branching out beyond oneself that a writer like Eric Damato actually bridges one triondian to another through his articles. His unselfish acts to introduce a contest, a challenge and encourage each of his readers to connect with the others is exceptionally brilliant. No, it does not give him more views, because then his readers are reading elsewhere. They are now fulfilling his goals of caring about others in a way he has masterfully designed. Now the one reader, me, who happened to come upon Eric’s account can tell you about his Utopian idea that has lead me to read and also have new friends and have them read my material as well. People I might never have found if it weren’t for his gentle computer picnic idea that one and one make more than two.

It is not where people live that makes them friends. It is the way they live their life that brings that friendship to a wonderful soft place which gathers others to it. Eric Damato lives somewhere and how he lives on this site, Triond, is an example well worth mentioning to my friends that read my material and leave comments here. Let me encourage you to find Eric Damato to see why I call him “friend”.

How to strive for independence.

Did you ever ask yourself what does independence means to you? Did you ever think about your ability to get into your car to drive down the street to the corner store and pick up a gallon of milk? Did you ever ponder your ability to make a sandwich? Did you ever consider having the ability to make a phone call? It is not my intent to gain sympathy for all the things we cannot do for ourselves. My intent is to make you, the readers, aware of all the things that our community can do.

I don’t have the ability to control my fingers or my hands to type this article, but I do have a headpointer that allows me to use a computer. Back when I was going to high school, computers were just coming into classrooms. My favorite class in high school was music theory. I wasn’t able to do my music homework independently. All I had was notation paper, a pencil and with any luck, assistance from a person who had some music theory background. During those semesters of music theory, I wished that I had the ability to do this homework myself. All the music theory software programs were archaic and couldn’t serve my needs. Fast forward five years and music software and computer technology skyrocketed into the 21st century. I had the ability to compose an entire symphony with horns, strings and any other instruments I wanted to play. This is what independence means to me.

Independence can be as simple as turning on a light switch. Some people don’t have the ability to do such a basic task. When we struggle to do basic tasks, we depend on people to help us. Our support staff makes it possible for us to do so much; without our support staff, we couldn’t make it through our daily lives. Independence also means getting out of bed, showering and eating. When our support staff assists us in figuring out how to do something independently, that can be very valuable. Sometimes our independence means getting out and visiting family and friends. Sometimes our independence means getting out into the community and demonstrating that we all serve a purpose in this world. Our support staff makes it possible for us to do everything we want to in our daily lives.

The next time you are wondering if you job of assisting people in their daily lives is worthwhile, please know, it is.
