Debt. Money shortages... or maybe something smaller like, how come every time something irritates me, more things happen to furthermore irritate me? Well I'll explain why. I'll also explain how you can manipulate this to your advantage.

You probably here people say all the time, “Keep Positive!” or “Stay focused.” Alot of phrases relating to this have become hackneyed. It’s one of those things that you get so tired of hearing, you automatically reject it, even though you (supposedly) still believe it. But, those couple words mean alot contrary to what you may think. We live in a world were negativity is very common. Consider yourself a magnet. You’ve probably heard this of this metaphor before. In real life, magnets attract to their opposite and repel against their like but in this metaphor, pretend that the only thing magnets do is attract to their alike. So you’re thinking about something you hate terribly. Spinach, perhaps. And you’re just sitting their focusing attentively about your hatred towards spinach. So your spouse goes out to buy dinner and guess what, all he comes back with is a can of spinach. He/she explains that he/she left his/her wallet/purse at the house, and the only thing on he/she could buy with his/her pocket change was some spinach that was on sale. This example may appear as if it’s ridiculously stupid, but it explains the concept that “energy flows were attention goes.”

Everything in life is connected. It is connected because we are all made of energy, animate, and inanimate objects. Therefore, we have the ability to change the things around us. When we think of something, in simpler terms, you are wishing to the Universe (God). And when you put that wish out, the Universe will change itself to fulfill your wish. If you put that wish out many, many times, and focus on it passionately, you’ll receive what you want even faster! Well you could argue with, “wellll….. one time, I was sitting there hoping that my mom wouldn’t serve spinach, and she did!” Well there’s two things you could have overlooked. One, the Universe doesn’t respond to “don’t” the Universe only knows action. You may think, “well what, is it stupid?” No. All it is, is obeying your wish, and your focusing on spinach, so you ultimately get… spinach! The other thing is, you can think about something you want, like an iPhone, but the energy is created from the feeling, not so much the thought of that iPhone. Feeling it would be pretending you had it, or feeling the feelings you would feel if you were to have that iPhone handed to you. That would be right. But thinking about it would be holding a picture in your mind that you saw off of Google Images. That would be wrong. It’s generating energy, and yes you are focusing on it, but it’s not enough energy to tell the Universe it’s that that you want.

One thing you want to avoid is negativity. EVERYONE once in a while has a problem with being upset, or irritated, but that’s only human nature. But always being mad and grouchy is terribly terrible. Even though your not focusing on any one thing, you’re feeling the feeling of anger or sadness. Like mentioned earlier, the feeling is what counts in order to send out your wish, and if your angry, and you wish that out, the Universe will send more anger back at you. If your in a terribly bad mood, the Universe is not going to reply with a suggestion saying “Are you sure you want to wish for: more anger?” and have two buttons label “Yes or No” The Universe is going to obey you. Just like a king. You can wish for anything you want, and your servant will not question you. Avoid wishing for more negativity (unless you have some sort of illness you can’t control were you have the urge to think of murdering the human race and starting a government with bananas and toothpicks) Try relaxing and thinking relaxing thoughts. Sleep, eat, walk, run, exercise, computer-ise, anything that makes you truly happy, by all means do that thing! It will put you in a good mood, and you’ll be putting out that wish for more things to elevate your mood!

One thing people mistakenly do when trying to think positive is say, “I’m going to get that phone soon” THIS IS WRONG! Refrain from keep your wishes in future tense, because if you do, it will always stay in the future and you’ll never have it! If you say “I have that phone.” or “That phone is mines.” “The phone belongs to me.” Things like that. Say it in present tense. Pretend that when you walk down the street, you feel your pocket vibrate and pull out your snazzy, new Motorola DynaTac. But you can also wish for things that are not physical. You can wish that your fever goes away. Just feel as if you were perfectly healthy. Instead of staying in bed all day feeling like a piece of crap, you can walk around the house. Not necessarily aimlessly, but you can jump around, etc. Just feel healthy.

I love to help, and a lot of other people also. But sometimes when people try to help, the only thing they do is hurt. They may not be aware of the fact that they’re focusing on the problem, which is pointless. All your doing is creating more of the problem. Focus on the solution. Focus on the output of the problem. This will solve the problem that’s going on and all of the focus will be off the problem, so there’s no energy for the problem to exist. That is were people mess up a lot. That’s why people say, “I tried to help but things just got worse!” Well now you know why! And know you know what to do instead. Martin Luther King Jr. knew that. He never bought large pieces of paper and colorful markers and made signs saying “End Segregation!” He preached about everybody acting as one (which we should do.) That was smart. And look at the impact he had on the world and the how he changed how segregation was viewed. He was just an ordinary person. He was no God or anything. All he was was a person with knowledge. He understood how the game was played. And I hope this article has taught you, how to play the game.

A lot more than just "whats goes around comes around" but, that does have something to do with it all.

1) The Great Law- As you sow, so shall you reap. This is also known as the Law of Cause and Effect. Whatever we put out in the Universe is what comes back to us. If what we want is happiness, peace, friendship, love…Then we should BE happy, peaceful, loving, a friend. Negative energy sent out to others will come back to you 10 fold
2) The Law of Creation- Life doesn’t just HAPPEN, it requires our participation. We are one with the Universe both inside and out. Whatever surrounds us gives us clues to our inner state. BE and DO yourself what you want to have in your life.
3) The Law of Humility-What you refuse to accept, will continue for you. If what we see is an enemy, or someone with a character trait that we find to be negative, then we ourselves are not focused on a higher level of existence.
4) The law of Growth- Wherever you go, there you are. For us to GROW in Spirit it is WE who must change and not the people, places or things around us. The only given we have in our lives is OURSELVES, and that is the only factor we have control over. When we change who and what we are within our heart, our life changes too.
5) The Law of responsibility- Whenever there is something wrong, there is something wrong in me. We mirror what surrounds us and what surrounds us mirrors us: we must take responsibility for what is in our life.
6) The Law of Connection- Even if something we do seems inconsequential, it is very important that it gets done as everything in the Universe is connected. Each step leads to the next step and so forth and so on. Someone must do the initial work to get a job done. Neither the first step nor the last are of greater significance-they were both needed to accomplish the task. Past, Present, Future…they are all connected…
7) The Law of Focus- You can’t think of two things at the same time. You should climb up a ladder one step at a time. When you lose your focus you let in insecurities and anger.
The law of Giving and Hospitality- If you believe something to be true, then sometime in your life you will be called upon to demonstrate that truth. Here is where we put what we SAY that we have learned into PRACTICE.
9) The Law of Here and Now- Looking back to examine what was prevents us from being totally in the HERE AND NOW. Old thoughts, old patterns of behavior, old dreams…Prevent us from having new ones.
10) The Law of Change- History repeats itself until we learn the lessons that we need to change our path.
11) The Law of Patience and Reward- All Rewards require initial toil. Rewards of lasting value require patient and persistent toil. True joy follows doing what we’re suppose to be doing, and waiting for the reward to come in it’s own time.
12) The Law of Significance and Inspiration- You get back from something whatever you’ve put into it. The value of something is a direct result of the energy and intent that is put into it. Every personal contribution is also a contribution to the Whole. Lack luster contributions have no impact on the Whole or work to diminish it.

I know I already made my stand on "letter to the editor" blurbs, but I have something to say, and it's been bugging me.

The other night I was talking to a friend of mine. She was all upset because her and the guy she ‘loved’ (I use the word liberally, she’s 17) weren’t working out at the time. I told her that if they didn’t work it, then it’d be okay because she’d move on and find someone else. She responded that she wouldn’t since this boy was her one true love, her proverbial soul mate.

I know a lot of people who know believe in the concept of soul mates, one true love. But the idea has always bothered me. There are just so many things wrong with it, it doesn’t seem plausible.

From a biological standpoint, it is just silly. If a person’s one true love dies, then they are removed from the gene pool. That reduces the amount of offspring they could have and weaken the species overall. When presented with this argument, the response is ‘but wolves mate for life, why can’t humans?’ Simple, wolves mate for one life. Meaning, if one half of the pairing dies, the other half finds a new mate. Meaning wolves are able to accept the loss of their loved one and move on. This is meant to be more of a metaphor, since I don’t actually believe wolves exist on the same mental level as humans.

‘But!’ the true believers argue, ‘Soul mates are spiritually ordained, it has nothing to do with biology!’

Alright, but that still raises a very important question. What happens when your soul mate dies at the age of 7? Or what if you can’t find the one ‘needle’ who is meant for you out of the seven billion strong ‘haystack’ that is our planet? Are you not allowed to feel true love at that point? Are you doomed to a hopeless existence where love is forever out of your reach? Of course not, such a thing would be silly.

Love is not a fact of reality, it’s not a force of nature, and it’s certainly not a destiny. Love is a bond, a connection between two people that just grows stronger over time. It’s like a living thing, it starts out weak and small, but grows into a strong, powerful being with time and the proper care. But, also like a living thing, it can die of neglect or age. But, a new love can be planted. A new being can grow just as powerful, or more powerful, than it’s predecessor. That was a bit more mushy and poetic than I would’ve like, but my point is love is a bond, not a fact. It can be left behind or found again. It can be avoided, if you’d like. And it most certainly can be replaced if need be.

It had been Geoffrey P oker. Fisherman who stated, “Inside urban centers we're not calm but some tend to be alone; in the nation, individuals are peaceful however not many are alone..."

With these days’utes hectic community, we’ng turn into comfortable with filling up the actual eeriness of stop along with bagatelle. Many of us turn to several temptations as a technique with avoiding reactions connected with idling or maybe boredom. But the key issue we all want to escape will be being alone. Purdah don’t even have for you to alienating or maybe lonesome. The fact is, isolation and isolation are clearly different.

The particular death on the significant other or wherewithal to obtain people that realize you may leave you feeling remote. Webster’azines book plainly details solitude because “becoming with out partners.” It’vertisements normal to see an vanity when longing for like or even approval. Being lonely is therefore a affective claim that might be experienced if or not an example may be in physical form on your own.

That it was Geoffrey Y. Fisherman that claimed, “With locations no one is peaceful but a majority tend to be lonely; in the united states, people are calm nevertheless not many are depressed.”

Most people are likely to fill up being alone wonderful different types of interruptions. By way of example, several single females would rather devote a new Ending friday nighttime with a dude they’ve not any legitimate interest in, compared to shell out the night by yourself. People long for an easy method involving killing time frame when they watch for the person they can be really looking for. You also have 16 and up who are involved with cliques in which they will’testosterone levels really relate with the companions. Even so, they would fairly sense recognised on a trivial amount as compared to threat feeling outcast. Exactly what could it be in relation to remaining on your own in which scares united states?

Do not be spooked from the strangeness of quiet. Stop is an wonderful issue. It aids you with how to genuinely listen. The idea explains to spend awareness of what exactly’utes taking inside you actually. As long as i am only, can we have place in addition to serenity we should feel without having to be outwardly inspired. It therefore becomes simpler to make important options in addition to identify what ever sensations will be finishing in just.

Call your self to enable you to generate informed options instead of purely reply to emotions. Value enough time you must oneself. Let the contentment in addition to knowing you get far better train a person for that commotion today’ohydrates entire world.

***Please note that this article was written just two weeks before the start of the middle-eastern revolution. Especially with Hosni Moubarak completely disconnecting the internet in Egypt, it would have been perfect material to base this essay on.***

Totalitarian Governments’ Psychological Manipulation throughout History

From past to present, many totalitarian governments have taken advantage of their citizens by psychologically controlling them, removing the truth from their eyes and thus, presenting them with false information. Nations have been heavily manipulated from the era of the Russian Revolution during Joseph Stalin’s power in the USSR, to Hitler’s power over Nazi Germany, and to this present day in the People’s Republic of China. All three of these authoritarian regimes have used censorship to hide politically and ideologically sensitive information from their own citizens, have used propaganda and lies in order for their citizens to believe what their government wants them to believe, and finally, surveillance to monitor them in order to catch those who present a threat to the government.

Censorship

Governments throughout history used censorship exaggeratedly in editing and removing information already published to their citizens, like rewriting history for instance, to even not releasing important information to their own citizens at all. In today’s Chinese society, the communist government is largely censoring politically sensitive information presented in their media, especially through the Internet. The People’s Republic of China is a country that has been going through a great deal of trouble lately and in recent past concerning numerous protests against the government. Information on these political struggles can be found on the Internet. However, Chinese authority have programmed the servers to eliminate politically sensitive information, such as blocking articles and Web sites on China’s human rights, the Tiananmen Square protest in 1989, and especially Falun Gong (“China’s Media Censorship”). By doing so, the Chinese government is violating its own rights in articles presented in their Constitution: prevented to violate homes, and any form of intrusion is illegal (“China’s Media Censorship”). This ironic offense to its own citizens is secretly built in China’s routers and “are programmed to channel [...] (URL’s) through proxy servers, which scan for politically sensitive words such as “falun,” [...] and send back an error message (e.g. “file not found”) to the Internet user who requested the page,” (“China and the Internet”). Because of this, China has now the most sophisticated Internet content-filtering in the world, also known as the ‘Great Firewall of China’ (“China and the Internet”). This online filtering program is taking a further step in censorship; in fact, the Chinese government is working on a program that will identify the users who search these politically sensitive past events, and electronically report it straight to the government (“China’s Media Censorship”). In February of 2003, some researchers have in fact announced such censoring system, “that they had it already developed [...] a ‘Falun Gong Content Examination System,’” (“China’s Media Censorship”). This fearful discovery, which removes events from the past off the Internet, is really trying to eliminate the Chinese society’s awareness of those abusive political acts (such as protests, beatings, and killings from police authority, etc.), so that the next generations become unconscious of the cruel government and don’t become influenced in rebelling or recognizing its corruption. This is also to end society’s rebellions, and retaliation methods such as protests, in order for the government to protect itself. Chinese citizens who do post uncensored political information have been threatened by authority, “Journalists have allegedly been harassed, sometimes with violence, and jailed for reporting content that is undesirable or that implicate government officials in corruption,” (“China and the Internet”). This shows how sensitive China’s government is on its people and the consequences of simply typing words in a search engine can cost one’s life in China.

Another totalitarian regime that used censorship to hide political information from its people is Hitler’s Nazi Germany. He had total psychological control over his German citizens by convincing them that Jews don’t deserve to be part of society by eliminating and censoring practically all Jewish media and no publicizing the horrid truths of the Holocaust, in order to keep his people’s respect and allegiance. Hitler’s first public Jewish offense occurred on May 10th, 1933, when 5000 students burned 25000 books written by Jewish authors, especially works from Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Helen Keller and Karl Marx (Day 19), simply motivated by Hitler’s hatred of Jews. When Helen Keller had discovered this, she protested and stated, “Tyranny cannot defeat the power of ideas,” and many Americans, along with her, declared it was a “clear violation of freedom of speech,” (“Nazi Propaganda and Censorship”). This book burning was an enormous threat to the German Jewish population, showing how great the Nazi-government’s psychologically manipulative power over its citizens was. After the manifestation, previous school books were replaced by new ones, getting rid of any presence of Jewish literature, “While some books were removed from classrooms by censors, often textbooks, newly written, were brought into teach students blind obedience to the party, love for Hitler, and anti-Semitism,” (“Nazi Propaganda and Censorship”). In fact, the censored scholarship material was instead literally replaced with lies of hatred. His hatred for Jews had taken over, which made him think of possibly realizing his ambitious ‘Final Solution,’ which was the mass killings of all Jews in Germany. Hatred of Jews was already heavily public at the time, but genocide was still an exaggeration. So when his horrible dream became a reality, he hid all evidence of his plans of the entire operation from the German population, “As for the implementation of the ‘Final Solution’ and the murder of other undesirable elements, the situation was different. The Nazis attempted to keep the murders a secret and, therefore, took precautionary measures to ensure that they would not be publicized,” (“36 Questions About the Holocaust”). Also, not publicizing the wretched concentration camps kept the Jews unaware and out of fear, not motivating them to flee the country before Nazi-German leaders could catch and deport them. Plus, the reasons of this censorship was to not show Hitler’s cruelty, to keep himself protected from any other country that would find out and get involved in freeing the country. This Holocaust secrecy was one of Hitler’s ways in psychologically making his people ‘unconscious’ of the terrorizing genocide. Unfortunately, this method had worked, killing an estimated six million people.

Next, at the time when Hitler became politically powerful, Stalin had started his First Purges with the Soviet Union, causing a Ukrainian famine in order to get adequate food for his country. The Soviet government and the NKVD kept it a secret by denying and censoring all of its information that was spread around the world. During the late 1920’s, Joseph Stalin attempted at agricultural collectivization of Ukraine’s rich food land, but was quickly refused at first by the Ukraine (Perloff 1). In 1933, Stalin does it anyway, in an abusive way, liquidating all rural houses, villages, and farms of the Kuban area (1). Ukrainians were forced to stay put in their households because the police force guarding (NKVD) would shoot them on site. After two horrible years, a famine caused a death toll of more than 25000 deaths a day, resulting in the total deaths of ten million Ukrainians; half of them perished via starvation in the Ukraine, and the other half were executed or deported to the Soviet tundras (10). After this sickening offense of Stalin’s, rumours spread out globally, “The Soviets suppressed all information regarding the famine. Russia’s state-controlled press was prohibited from discussing and for ordinary citizens, just mentioning the famine carried a penalty of three to five years’ imprisonment,” (10). So the information on this Ukrainian genocide, or also known as the Holodomor, was never published in the USSR and Soviet citizens were not allowed to even rumour about the famine. Journalists were prohibited from visiting the Ukraine either, only those in the NKVD were (10). After a while, the rumours reached the United States, but it was quickly denied by journalist Walter Duranty, “[His] published denials of Ukraine’s Holodomor were perhaps the vilest acts of his career. [...] He brazenly told his New York Time readers ‘There is no famine or actual starvation nor is there likely to be,’” (11). Denial was his key in censoring passed information, which Stalin greatly appreciated. Some even say Duranty was part of the NKVD and secretly working for Stalin. Duranty even published that those rumours were lies, which ironically characterizes him as one of the biggest liars in history (11). The global censorship of the Holodomor was his manipulative tool in not informing the world of Stalin’s sick actions causing the death of ten million innocent Ukrainians. This genocide was kept forgotten and secret until the information surfaced after the downfall of the Soviet Union after 1991 (12).

Propaganda

Since these governments used censorship to eliminate the risk of having their undesired information passed around to their citizens, they also took a step further in replacing this censored political information that could morally deteriorate their trust, with false information, persuading and disinforming their own citizens with lies through the media. Even though China today has already created a censorship system through their Internet, an accidentally published speech from propagandist Wang Chen was leaked in the summer of 2010 stating that China plans to use the Internet to publish ‘soft’ propaganda (Garnaut). The Chinese government plans to take advantage of the Chinese network by spreading lies, “Rather than shut off China to the outside world, the Communist Party has maintained its authoritarian rule in the information age by vastly expanding its propaganda apparatus and modernizing its methods and messages,” (Garnaut). In an age with limitless information, China’s the only country exaggeratingly erasing content and civil history (Garnaut). The government’s propaganda group wants now to step in and present lies so China’s citizens can be guided in believing what the government wants them to believe, meaning that this will help eliminate individual thought, reducing any idea that can cause people to believe any politically undesired thought, and narrowing down free thinking (thinking against the government) so the citizens end in believing in lies instead of being conscious of China’s past aggressive history. Modernizing the Internet will help provoke this propaganda. Wang Chen explains that it will “outline a vast array of institutions and methods to control opinion at home and also ‘create an international public opinion environment that is objective, beneficial and friendly to us,’” (Garnaut). Here, Chen really states that he wants Chinese citizens to follow blindly, or as he says, ‘objectively,’ helping build an unconscious population, which is a selfish act of political abuse. China’s government has already commenced this with their ’50 cent’ group, who are “informal public leaders‒derisively labelled as China’s ’50 cent’ army for the fees they receive per posting–are also deployed to push the government line on sensitive issues,” (Garnaut). This paid political group posts comments on politically sensitive content regarding how pervasive it is (each post gives 50 cents to the member who did). So, this makes citizens think these comments came from other citizens; it’s almost as if the government is disguising itself to get what they want. These false-citizen comments force and influence Chinese citizens’ way of thinking on things to the way the government is. One could say this psychological manipulation technique parallels secret and silent assimilation. China’s plans of disinforming its citizens with lies through the Internet are strong manipulative techniques that might only get worse.

Secondly, after the burnings of books which Paul Joseph Goebbels led, propaganda minister/activist of Nazi Germany, he became much more public. He persuaded Germans into following his lies in his constant media appearances; he truly was a master of propaganda techniques. His horrible talent permitted Hitler to follow his dreams on constantly emphasizing that Jews are evil. Propaganda during Hitler’s rule had two main uses: “(1) to praise one side, making out to be fighting for ‘right’ and trumpeting its victories, and (2) to blacken the enemy,” (Ross 5). Goebbels was really Hitler’s puppet; he persuaded the German population with Hitler’s thoughts on Jews: the ‘right’ side was anti-Semitism and following Hitler; second, Jews were the enemy, forcing them to flee the country. Goebbels succeeded at convincing the non-Jewish population at doing this through his great intelligence and ability to mass communicate in the media, which he had total control of; this inspired Hitler very much (Ross 7). Joseph Goebbels got instantly inspired at starting to mass psychologically manipulate simply by what Hitler wrote in his personal book ‘Mein Kampf’ (My struggle), where he mentioned that “masses are slow-moving, and they always require a certain time before they are ready even to notice a thing, and only often the simplest ideas are respected thousands of times will the masses finally remember them,” (Cunningham 32-33). Goebbels followed this policy and applied it his entire life when he repeatedly announced in the media that Jews are not welcomed in Germany, and that they are inhuman. This was so he could have the dreaded thought imprinted in German citizens’ minds. So here, Goebbels used repetition as the key to his success at psychologically manipulation. He was so successful that his big lies permitted Hitler to reach his ‘Final Solution’ which was the killing of six million Jews. In order to make this happen, Goebbels made his public lies sound like the truth by “the systematic manipulation of statistics in such a way as to clothe organizational reports with an aura of rationality and scientific objectivity,” (115). Goebbels muted all information on the killings of the Jews and the reason was so the Jews couldn’t access it to provide them with intelligence that could be used to ruin Hitler’s secrecy of concentration camps. So instead, Goebbels, to make the Germans believe in his big lies of how these Jewish execution camps were not true, backed them up with false statistics, facts, numbers, etc. (115), to make him seem intelligent and trustworthy to the public.

In order for Joseph Stalin’s constant totalitarian regime to only grow with power, millions of people were killed from his purges. Rumours were spread of his ongoing terror in the Soviet Union. Stalin reduced this panic to almost nothing through propaganda in false information published by journalists, the rewriting of Soviet history, and through visual propaganda. The goal for Stalin’s propaganda strategies was to cover up all the fear of the party in the citizens’ minds and replace it with the opposite: to fall in love with him. For Stalin to have total psychological control over the Soviet Union, he used constant propaganda that “has been characterized by intensity and concentration; flexibility and adaptability; deception and manipulation; and centralized control and coordination,” (Shultz 35). The countless amounts of posters in public was Stalin’s technique of intensification in his ‘heroic’ presence; he wanted to make sure these posters were constantly in the faces of Soviet citizens, so that after some time, that is what they finish believing (“Propaganda in the Propaganda State”). Stalin presented his lies in literature also (books, newspaper), just another way that citizens could unconsciously adapt to the lies of Stalin (because posters were a much more obvious form of propaganda than literature because of its visual element). It was truly his journalists who convinced Soviet citizens to keep following Stalin, even during the worst times of terrorism, “As he signed the death warrants for uncounted large numbers of his comrades and countrymen, the newspaper writers hailed him as the gentle wise leader,” (“Propaganda in the Propaganda State”). These journalists knew the truth and had to convert it to the lies Stalin wanted. Fear of Stalin’s Great Purges, executions and deportation were what really motivated the writers to continue following their orders and please Stalin, if not, they would be the ones persecuted also. Even facts in books were changed to fit the liking of their leader, “Historians constantly had to rewrite history books to take out people who were no longer people; people made un-persons-made unmentionable in public after being purged. Because political arguments and political legitimacy rooted itself in history, the past had to be rewritten frequently,” (“Propaganda in the Propaganda State”). Information on the government and Joseph Stalin was always distorted and these lies presented in books are meant to imprint the image of Stalin and influential persuasive information he wanted his citizens to believe in, avoiding any risk of the creation of ideas and thinking for oneself. In other words, Joseph Stalin’s way of manipulation was to psychologically forge the minds of his citizens into the type of mind he wanted it to be.

Surveillance

Since propaganda was used a lot as a tool for spreading falsifications, governments have used public surveillance as a tool to monitor its own citizens. First, China monitors information from its citizens through the Internet in order to get information and retain a history of all of people’s politically sensitive searches. China’s government has an Internet monitoring group where “China’s Ministry of Public Security (MPS) reportedly employs 30000 human monitors or ‘cyber-police,’ to monitor Internet content,” (“China and the Internet”). This group was established in 2000 by the government and these ‘human monitors’ cover over 700 cities and get paid by the government (“China and the Internet”). The Chinese government is bribing thousands of people with money in order to get what it wants. Ironically, most of the monitoring group has probably searched this information also before. In public cafés, in November of 2002, “authorities [...] began requiring Internet café users to buy access cards and register their names, ages, and addresses, information that is then loaded into a police database,” (“China’s Media Censorship”). The human monitors try to catch ‘illegal searches’ on the Internet through the identification cards that permit access to the Internet in Chinese cafés, and keep a record of all users who search for politically sensitive information (“China’s Media Censorship”). The government is not telling its own citizens of this Internet watch, and is secretly abusing its own rights in using surveillance as a tool that results in punishment. In fact, the Amnesty International stated that “some cyber dissidents were charged with revealing secrets or endangering state security and prison sentences of two to 12 years,” (“China and the Internet”). In 2005, the cyber police caught 32 online journalists that reported and posted politically undesirable facts which lead to their imprisonment. This is literally an exaggeration in limiting freedom of thought, which creates fear to the users. So, China’s ways of using cyber surveillance via Internet everyday is only going to get increasingly clever and will eventually absorb more than just cafés in China.

Second, Hitler used his secret service, also known as the SS, to take care of the Jews’ surveillance during the time of concentration camps, deportations, and ghettos, and were the ones who would guard, which lead to the Jews’ death. But, for the secret service to know who it is watching over, which in this case were the Jews in Germany, they made Jews wear the Star of David. This was showing which people were the ones who were going to get deported to the ghettos or not: “The Germans ordered Jews residing in ghettos to wear identifying badges or armbands and also required many Jews to perform forced labour for the German Reich,” (“Ghettos”). Once in the ghettos, which were enclosed villages guarded and surrounded by the SS, those who left the grounds were instantly shot. This strict type of surveillance was what the Jews suffered through the entire Holocaust. In these ghettos, Jews were even restricted from socializing; the SS “often perceived a ‘security threat’ in any social gathering and would move ruthlessly to incarcerate or kill perceived ringleaders and participants,” (“Ghettos”). These villages were transits from their homeland (Germany) to concentration camps and the SS guarded the Jews along the entire way. But in the ghettos, Jews were lacking food, starving and needed medical attention. They were frightened to ask for help, and if they did, the SS would remain unresponsive and go as far as execution. Once deported to the concentration camps, the SS were the ones who clearly guarded the Jews’ labour and these “prisoners were literally worked to death; in this policy, camp prisoners were forced to work under conditions that would directly and deliberately lead to illness, injury, and death,” (“Forced Labor: Overview”). The presence of threats of shooting to death was what Hitler had really used to his advantage against the race he hated. The system of surveillance was an aggressive one applied on an innocent race, which presented fear in the eyes of all Jewish prisoners of the Holocaust, a tool that psychologically tormented and manipulated them in obeying orders.

Finally, in Stalinist Russia, Stalin used terror as a manipulation tool for controlling his own country’s citizens, threatening them through the media and presence of the NKVD in the society, which was watching what citizens were doing. Journalists and reporters were ordered to warn Soviet citizens that the NKVD–which was Russia’s secret service during Stalin’s time–is always watching, “[Denouncing] or the possibility even by one’s own children plus the suspicion that devices such as radios could listen as well as transmit through wired speakers were daily reminders of the possibility of terror visiting a family, a neighbour, a friend,” (“Propaganda in the Propaganda State”). So here, Stalin used the force of terror in the media to present people with fear too. The fact that radios could filter audible information to the government was just one of the lies Stalin made; these and other lies were exaggerated in order to manipulate citizens’ minds in preventing the spread of illegal information, such as spreading rumours on the Ukrainian famine. This terror could not be controlled at sometimes though, which is where the NKVD would step in: “The very irrationality, unpredictability, and illogic of arrests, beatings, executions and exile made people feel the terror pervasively. State violence defined the Stalinist State,” (“Propaganda in the Propaganda State”). In a way, not only were the citizens informed on a surveillance system that watched over constantly, but fear was what became created after all the repetitive reports of threats. Even though there was no such thing as such secret surveillance system besides the NKVD, the fact that the Soviet citizens thought they were watched created hear, which is what refrained them from freedom of speech, and even thought.

Conclusion

As discussed, totalitarian governments have greatly abused their power in using psychological manipulation techniques over their citizens in order to form the type of country that they want. They have used a great deal of censorship, censoring information they don’t want their citizens to know about, propaganda, making their country blindly believe in lies, and with surveillance, monitoring citizens to obey the law, and catch those who present a possible threat to the government. This could make one think of the possibility citizens in Canada and in the United States are being psychologically manipulated today secretly and unconsciously. Because of the increasingly rapid advance in technology over the years, one would believe that North American citizens are being brainwashed and/or monitored so cleverly that citizens don’t even realize it happening right now.

Almost a biased rant about Apathy linking to society and connecting to the book "12 Angry Men."

Apathy, the World: No Difference

“Is it ignorance or apathy? Hey, I don’t know and I don’t care.” This excerpt from one of Jimmy Buffett’s songs describes the people of society: yesterday, today, and tomorrow. An impact like this can leave traces all throughout history and even infect our legal system. The court of law, session, or even tribunal; these are just another name for freedom, or a condemned sentence of death. Right now people don’t care who is President, whether they recycle, or sometimes even if someone’s life was in jeopardy.

The Constitution’s greatest flaw is its greatest strength. A jury consists of 12 randomly selected people under any occupation, class, or race. These people are given a case, evidence, and told to reach a verdict. The process of reaching this verdict is the hardest part, and should be a serious matter if the defendant’s life is at risk. “12 Angry Men” displayed some characteristics of today’s society such as sexual jokes, and even value of importance of life. If it were between a baseball game and a kid’s life for Juror #7, he’d pick baseball.

One great way to jumpstart a project, idea, or even an old tradition is motivation. Another person making an effort to amend or create something is all it takes to encourage others to join in. Juror #8’s determination for justice motivated the other inconsiderate slobs into actually thinking about the case. This can take effect in the real world too and is a positive ideal to society, something we can share. For example, if your favorite movie or TV star had said something like “Get involved in your community,” that could be the breaking-point of some people’s attention— motivation.

Apathy is a simple way to put a complex situation. If people don’t care to get involved in the community in which they live, there will be no change. No change means that the society never evolves with the time. When people refuse change it is often times for selfish reasons. Whenever I think about people, the first word I think of is selfish. Selfishness is linked to not caring about a topic, or other people. This connecting fits with apathy perfectly. Even towards the end of the novel Juror #3 gave in because he didn’t care anymore, that was what was implied to me. Justice was reached using apathy, which is unusual in a sense. Can apathy be positive?

Imagine if you were being tried for murder. You are appointed a free lawyer because you can’t afford one and also cannot recall anything to help your case. Suppose you were innocent, but all evidence indicates that you are guilty. This happens in court a lot, and innocent people have rotted in jail because of it. Justice can sometimes be unjust, but I guess the Constitution is made that way as a failsafe. If your jury of 12 was the one part of the community that was apathetic, you’d die and a tear wouldn’t be shed. They’d be thinking about what they were going to eat that night, while you’d fry in a chair of “justice.”

Apathetic people roam this world, society, city, and community. Being that one motivator of others is not only possible, but probable too. Justice sees the eyes of all; good, bad, or indifferent. This book not only reflected problems at the time, but everlasting ones that soon grew to what we have now. Remember, the world has one motto: “Is it ignorance or apathy? Hey, I don’t know and I don’t care.”

Is this a problem for your relationship? In a word: yes. In two words: big problem.

This is a problem for one very simple reason: when a woman is really in love, she does not want other men. If she is eyeing other men, if willing to talk to strangers and flirting with them, often without even hiding from you, it means that something is missing in the relationship.Which is a problem for the connection between you.

The reasons for such female behavior might be many, but all come from one – she just did not fall so much in you. So or she is looking for something new, or want variety, or seeking to convince herself in her attractiveness by flirting with other men.

When a woman is in love with you, you’re the most beautiful man in the world for her and no one can compete with you, even the lifeguards at the beach in summer.

Is this the end of your relationship? This depends entirely on you. If you insist, you have to talk to her first, to explain your concerns and hear what she has to say on the matter. But overall relationship with a woman who does not wants only you, doesn’t have good future.

Do not forget another important thing – to think that she’s really eyeing other men you have to see her doing it, repeatedly. Do not rush with the conclusions and do not become jealous just because of some vague suspicion.
