You may have been a victim of identity theft and felt teh frustration of trying to correct the problem. It can be a long battle and money spent just trying to rectify the identity theft.

Identity theft is a very emotional crime for the victim. They may spent lots of time trying to correct the credit and contacting their banks because of fraudulent charges. This could be quite frustrating but I’m sure its more frustrating if you know who is committing such a crime but no one would help. What if they kept diverting your mail to a different address? What if you found out that your bank card was charged? You may start feeling helpless and angry because of the attacks you are receiving. You must fight back because if you don’t than they will keep doing it and others will feel exactly what you’re feeling.

Those who commit this type of crime feel that they are invincible. They believe that the law will do nothing or it will take so long that it wouldn’t matter anyway. You may want to put a whammy on them but don’t. They will get caught just not in your time frame. They will slip up and than the law will have enough evidence to take them in. If its say a mother in-law than she may just want to frustrate you. So what she has people helping her like those in the post office. You can get around that by writing every agency you know. So hold on a change is surely coming.

Identity thieves are a nuisance and it can take a long time trying to catch these bad guys. keep your head up and continue to make a difference. No one wants to be a victim of identity theft but it happens, especially in this bad economy. You must relax and do what is necessary to get your life back. Identity Thieves you won’t win!

A withdrawal of my former interest in working with Roman Polanski if the opportunity arose.

Not long ago I wrote about film makers I’d like to do digital art for. Named among the candidates was Roman Polanski, I have since watched an eye opening documentary that is driving me to say here and now that I would NEVER like to work with Roman. I am a man who believes that people should be known more for their successes than their sins, but I feel that Roman sees nothing wrong with the crimes he was charged with.

He admitted a few unsavory things in the documentary, and in the documentary the full depravity of his crimes came to light. (As did his cowardice, but that is another matter entirely.)

I knew vaguely that Roman had been charged criminally, and I figured “hey we all are guilty of some sin or another in our lives” and let it go @ that, but after watching the documentary it weighed on my mind. It is for that reason that I am writing this article and retracting/reversing/withdrawing my interest in working with him.

I feel that working with him after learning the full extent of his crimes would be a twisted injustice to his victim. Brilliant as he may once have been, I now only view him as a common cowardly criminal.

Police often feel trapped when they go out in the community trying to find information about a crime. Its as if residents take the no snitching oath.

Its not easy for police officers, they have to go in neighborhoods that are filled with rage and pain. They are trying to investigate a murder, rape or robbery and the case is still because people have chose to keep their mouths shut. If they are filled with fear its understood because many have fell to their deaths because they were a witness to a murder. Is it right to witness a murder or rape and keep quiet? Many know the accuser personally and have witnessed their tempered personality. The street thugs have the money to get guns and are not afraid to use them. So they won’t snitch as they say. They close their eyes and doors in front of the police face. The police plea for help but their pleas go unanswered. The residents stay indoors fearing they will be the next victims.

Its a serious problem when the police want to pick up the bad guy but the people won’t talk. Being quiet will not solve the problem, allowing a murderer to walk free is dangerous. The police do understand the fear that the public holds but a little cooperation would go along way. The code of snitching. Its sad that a child is killed and your neighbor saw what happened but decided that he want tell. This is frustrating that man can have so much power over another. Remove the snitching and place it with saving lives. The problem is guns are to easy for criminals to obtain. Its a problem because the guilty are walking around freely threatening the community or communities. Its alright to tell what happened.

Determining the pros and cons of witnessing a crime and whether you should report it.

You and your girlfriend witness a fight one evening on the way home from the movies and recognize one of the fighters as your best friend’s son. You are horrified and surprised to see what is going on. The attacker is kicking and hitting the victim who is trying to squirm his way to safety holding his arms over his head to shield it. You know immediately that you have a dilemma. The mother of the boy is your best friend. You know the boy personally as he has done little errands for you and has always been willing to help with little chores. How did she not know this side of him and what is she going to do? Is she going to report it? Her girlfriend has already run off to get to the house and to dial 911. You wonder whether you should keep quiet about witnessing the fight and say nothing at all, or do the right thing and go to the police and say who he is and where he lives.

Covering up

Answering this question is easier said than done. You did not ask for the situation. You have come upon the scene unexpectedly and seen something you should not have seen and whichever way you turn it will not be an easy decision to make. Still, bad as it may seem, the truth is always best. You cannot withhold important information from the police. Your friend’s son may quite possibly be a nasty bit of work and beat up on people if he is not stopped. His behavior should be investigated in that case.

Loyalties and conscience

If this is his first run-in with the law it will be good for him to have a wake-up call and see what it is like to be overnight in a prison. To keep quiet about the situation and not name the perpetrator, will also send the wrong message and mother and son won’t benefit anyway from the lie. There is also the price one has to pay for harboring a fugitive or aiding and abetting a person who should pay the price for his crimes and misdemeanors. It could be your child who was attacked. What kind of justice would you want? You would want the punishment to fit the crime. Hard as it may be for the other family, you have to tell the truth. Your friend may never speak to you again for reporting the details of the crime to the police, but you would have done a service to the community – that you don’t tolerate bullies and will not be drawn into a lie. If your friend does not understand your predicament it may be time to examine whether the friendship is worth having.

Josephine Baker was an African American-born, French dancer, singer, and actress. She acquired full French citizenship in 1937. Nicknamed the “Bronze Venus,” the “Black Pearl”, and even the “Créole Goddess”, in France, Josephine has always been known simply as “La Baker.” Baker was the first African American to become a world-famous entertainer. She is also noted for her contributions to the Civil Rights Movement in the USA, and for assisting the resistance in France during World War II. She was the first American-born woman to receive the Croix de Guerre for her services to France.

Most notorious Confederate spy Belle Boyd, worked the Shenandoah Valley. Born in West Virginia, she operated from her father’s hotel in Front Royal, providing valuable information to “Stonewall” Jackson during the spring 1862 campaign. He made her a captain and honorary aide-de-camp on his staff. Betrayed by her lover, she was arrested on July 29, 1862, and on December 1, 1863, she was released, suffering from typhoid, and was then sent to Europe to regain her health.. While in England she had a stage career and published Belle Boyd in Camp and Prison. She died while touring the western United States.

Mata Hari was t the Dutch exotic dancer and prostitute Gertrud Margarete Zelle, who was shot by the French as a spy on 15 October 1917. Born on 7 August 1876 in the Netherlands, her name has since been associated with spying, though to this day her guilt is in doubt.

Highly successful in her stage career, Mata Hari’s attractiveness, as well as her apparent willingness to appear almost nude made her a huge hit. She cultivated numerous lovers, including many military officers. Allegedly, while in The Hague in 1916 she was offered cash by a German consul for information obtained on her next visit to France. She was arrested on 13 February 1917 in Paris. Following imprisonment she was tried by a military court on 24-25 July 1917 and sentenced to death by a firing squad. The sentence was carried out on 15 October 1917 in Vincennes near Paris. She was 41.

Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were American Communists who were executed for passing nuclear secrets to the Soviet Union. They met in the Young Communist League in 1936, where he was a leader. They had two sons. Julius was recruited by the KGB in 1942 and was regarded as one of their top spies. He passed classified reports from Emerson Radio, including a fuse design which was later used to shoot down a U-2 in 1960.

Julius also recruited many people sympathetic to the cause to assist the KGB. He provided the KGB with thousands of documents from the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics including a complete set of design and production drawings for the Lockheed’s P-80 Shooting Star. A former machinist at Los Alamos (the US Nuclear Development Area), Sergeant David Greenglass confessed to having passed secret information on to the USSR, and in doing so, implicated his brother-in-law: Julius Rosenberg. He initially denied any involvement by his sister Ethel. The Rosenbergs were arrested.

In 1951 the case against the Rosenbergs began. Greenglass, the prosecution’s main witness, told the court that his sister Ethel had typed nuclear secrets he gave her at a meeting in their home, and that he gave Julius a sketch of a cross-section of an implosion type nuclear bomb. Both Rosenbergs were found guilty and sentenced to death. Their conviction gave fuel to Senator McCarthy’s investigations into anti-American activities. They were both executed by electric-chair in Sing Sing Prison in 1953

John Andre was a British officer hanged as a spy during the American Revolutionary war. At the age of 20 he joined the British Army and moved to North America to join the occupying forces. He was a great favourite in society, both in Philadelphia and New York during their occupation by the British Army. During his nearly nine months in Philadelphia, André occupied Benjamin Franklin’s house, where it is said he took items from Franklin’s home when the British left Philadelphia.

In 1779, he became adjutant-general of the British Army with the rank of Major. In April, he was placed in charge of the British Secret Intelligence. By the next year (1780) he had begun to plot with American General Benedict Arnold, who commanded West Point, and had agreed to surrender it to the British for £20,000 — a move that would enable the British to cut New England off from the rest of the rebellious colonies.

Using common clothes and a false passport, Andre travelled toward New York with documents supplied by Arnold. He was stopped by three men at gunpoint. During the following conversation in which both parties were confused over the allegiance of the others, Andre admitted he was British. The three men searched him and found the papers he was hiding. He was put on trial before a board of senior officers. On September 29, 1780, the board found Andre guilty of being behind American lines “under a feigned name and in a disguised habit”, and that:

“Major Andre, Adjutant-General to the British army, ought to be considered as a Spy from the enemy, and that agreeable to the law and usage of nations, it is their opinion, he ought to suffer death.”

He was hanged as a spy at Tappan on October 2, 1780.

Considered to be one of the most skilled spies of the 20th century, Richard Sorge was a Soviet master of espionage who worked all over the world before and during World War II. For much of his career, he operated under the cover of a professional journalist, traveling to various European countries to calculate the chances of possible Communist uprisings. At the outbreak of WWII, Sorge traveled to Japan under the guise of a Nazi reporter and began supplying the Soviets with valuable intelligence about Japanese and German combat operations. He warned them about the Pearl Harbor attack, the planned German invasion of Russia, and countless other missions, but a lot of his intelligence was ignored by Stalin. Sorge was eventually captured by the Japanese in 1944, and though he never admitted to being a Soviet spy even under torture, was executed shortly thereafter. The Soviets did not recognize him or his activities until 1964, at which point he was belatedly hailed as a national hero.

Joubert Duquesne was a larger than life writer, soldier, and adventurer who gained fame as a spy for the Germans during World Wars I and II. He fought against England in his native South Africa during the Boer Wars, at one point enlisting in the British army in order to sabotage missions and report on troop movements. With a lifelong hatred of all things English, Duquesne began working for the Germans as a spy at the start of WWI. Captured in 1917, he was extradited to New York, but escaped after two years by cutting through the bars of his cell and scaling the prison walls. At the outbreak of WWII, he resumed spying activities for the Germans, ending in 1942 when he and 33 other spies, were arrested in what was to become the biggest espionage ring conviction in American history.

However, the former judge was removed from the Justice for 11 years for another case.

Baltasar Garzon, the judge legendary pioneer of “universal justice” and human rights advocate, was acquitted for his investigation of the disappeared during the Franco dictatorship. The Supreme Court determined that Garzon used “misleading arguments and incurred in excess in the application and interpretation of the rules” when it had jurisdiction. However, the judgment determines that Garzon was wrong but did not commit malfeasance or knowingly unjust sentencing. The ruling states that “no injustice reaches of the resolution that requires the kind of prevarication and therefore does not deserve the reproach of arbitrariness required by the crime of malfeasance.”

The private prosecution, which both right-wing fantasies, had ordered 20 year ban and a fine of 21,600 euros. However, the damage is done because Garzon was convicted of another trial, wiretapping of conversations and their clients in prison for the Gurtel case, a web of corruption. The judge was excluded from the judiciary for 11 years.

The magistrate who investigated the crimes of the military regimes in Argentina and Chile, was acquitted of another trial (there were three simultaneously) in which he was accused of bribery by some courses delivered in the United States.

The case had been filed after that Garzon accepted jurisdiction on October 16, 2008 to investigate allegations of 22 associations of relatives of disappeared during the Civil War and Francoism.

It also authorized the opening of 19 mass graves in Spain.

The family consisted provided a list where the names of 114,000 missing civilians killed during and after the Civil War and buried in mass graves without identification. In this investigation from the trial court number 5 of the National Court, accused of crimes against humanity the dictator Francisco Franco and 34 former senior military and civilian officials of his regime.

In general, proponents of Garzón reacted without surprise at the verdict, already expected, because they claim that the objective pursued by the proceedings in the Supreme was it out of the judiciary and that’s already got his disqualification for the case Gurtel . ”He’s been removed from circulation,” complained the general coordinator of United Left (IU), Cayo Lara.

“The Supreme Court has managed to avoid a scandal of major proportions,” said the spokesman for Human Rights Watch, Reed Brody, a law experts and international observers attending the trial. ”The investigation of acts of torture and disappearances can not be considered a crime.”

The spokesman of “Solidarity with Garzon,” Luis Garcia Montero, said: “The verdict shows that the cases against the former judge was a show and persecution.” In deciding the Supreme Garzon could not have jurisdiction to investigate crimes of Francoism, disable other judges do. The principle of universal justice, which both fight Garzon has been violated in the heart.

Christophobia is running high in Muslim countries. Draconian blasphemy laws cause Christians to live in perpetual fear, and with good reason. Anything that contradicts the Muslim theological doctrine is considered blasphemy and gives intolerant Muslims the right to bully and kill the religious minorities. In Saudi Arabia churches and private prayer are banned. Religious police regularly raid the homes of Christians and bring them up on charges of blasphemy in a court where their testimony carries no weight.

Why isn’t the media speaking out against the killing of Christians in Muslim majority nations? The violation of Christians stretch from West Africa and the Middle East to South Asia and Oceania. In some countries it’s the government and their agents that have burned churches, kidnapped children and imprisoned and killed Christians. It’s a rising genocide that should provoke all nations. Why isn’t anyone speaking out against it? The most likely reason is lobbyists groups such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. These groups have been surprisingly effective in persuading journalists in the West that it’s anti Muslim discrimination called, “Islamophobia.

Since 2003 more than 900 Iraqi Christians have been killed by terrorists in Baghdad alone, and 70 churches have been burned. Thousands of Iraqi Christians have left because of the violence directed at them. Christian population dropped from over a million in 2003 to less than half a million today. The conspiracy of silence surrounding the violence and religious intolerance should be stopped. Christianity and the freedom of all religions is at stake,

In Nigeria many Christians are suffering persecution. An organization that calls itself “Boko Haram” which means, Western Education is sacrilege. It’s aim is to kill all the Christians in the country. In January alone, Boko Haram caused 54 deaths. In 2011 it was responsible for 510 deaths and burned down more than 350 churches. They use bombs, machetes, gasoline and guns, shouting “Allahu akbar” which means, God is great, while attacking unsuspecting citizen Christians. Reports from the United Nations indicate that between 53,000 and 75,000 innocents have been displaced and their property confiscated or destroyed.

In Pakistan Christians are a small minority, yet they live in constant terror of blasphemy laws. A Christian woman was sentenced to death for allegedly insulting the prophet Muhammad. When pressure was put on the Governor Salman Taseer to explore a way to free her, he was killed by his body guard. The body guard was celebrated as a hero by the Muslim clerics. When Christian groups break the blasphemy law, the consequence can be horrific.

Attacks are also ongoing against Christians in the Sudan,Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia. It’s an anti Christian expression by Muslims that transcends all cultures, ethnicities and regions. Christians have lost the protection of their own societies. Vigilantes feel they can act with sanctions from their government and they are right. The idea that non Muslims deserve protection has all but vanished from the Islamic world.

A good solution would be to take the billions of dollars going to the offending nations and use it to do something about the crimes against Christians. In America and Europe we go all out to protect Muslim minorities from intolerance and ensure they can worship and work freely without fear. And justifiably so. But Muslims nations should be required to do the same with Christians. Conditions could be put on trade, investment and aid with Muslim countries to insure religious freedom for all citizens.

What if someone stole your money out of your bank account and you found out who it was? What would you do if it was your spouse, in-law, mother, father, cousin or uncle? Would you press charges and want them to pay for what they've done?

Having someone steal your money out of your account is just shameful. What would be the ultimate kicker? If you investigated it and found out who it was, what would be your reaction? Screaming to the top of your lungs sound good or perhaps slapping them would be sufficient. What is the best way to handle such a delicate situation? would you stop speaking to them or would you want them arrested? It’s a tough one I know. Just say that it’s your mother in-law would you let your husband deal with it or would you have her arrested? You may spend endless nights worrying about the case.

It’s a hard pill to swallow when its someone you know. You may feel deep anger and want to just knock them down but you can’t. They may give you the same old lie( I didn’t do this) and blame it on someone else. What if they laughed at you when you told them that you knew? It is tough and it may cause some tension with your relationship. You may get angry with your spouse because he won’t help you. You may think that everyone is devious. It is training and shows you that people are capable of things that you would never do. What gets me are the big fat lies that they tell to over one another. I just can’t stand a thief.

Yes, it is possible that you could be sleeping with a criminal or have one in your home.It is upseting and you may just want to run down the street and scream. That’s how I feel right now. What if they tried something new each time to upset you? Would you try to get pay back or would you just let it go? Perhaps they need help and want you to help them. It is unsettling to say the least. What would you do?

Private Security can gain power and use it against individuals along with other public officials.

What is Color of Law?

What color of law is, and who, what, when, where and why of this act. The goal is to tie in private security and how they can commit a crime that is under the color of law.

— An act performed by different public officials and in some cases legal private corporations or businesses.

— Willfully to deprive another individual of any rights under the constitution or any laws.

— Any individual doing this act under a power given to them.

The color of law will include not only public officials but also private security guards when given a power to exercise judgment and use this power to deprive an individual for any reason of their rights under the constitution or any other laws. The Color of Law is an act performed based on legal rights or the enforcement of statute.

Public Officials of Color of Law

— President

— Supreme Court Justice

— Law enforcement

— Mayor

— Governor

— Prosecutors

— Judges

— Private Security Guards

— Color of law is an unlawful act against another individual by public officials such as the president, Supreme Court justice, law enforcement, a mayor, a governor, prosecutors, judges, and even in some instances private security guards. Each of these officials and more are given a power by the government or a non-government corporation and abused their power.

Tests for Private Parties

— The Nexus Test

— The Symbiotic Relation Test

— The joint action test

— The traditional Public Powers test

Broad Crimes

— Excessive force

— Sexual assaults

— False arrest

— Fabrication of evidence

— Deprivation of property

— Failure to keep from harm

The Color of law is an act that can include deprivation against other persons. There are even tests for private parities that are not considered as public officials but still legal officials under government or corporations control given a power over the rest of society. Some of the broad crimes discussed under the color of law are excessive force, sexual assaults, false arrest, fabrication of evidence, deprivation of property, and failure to keep from harm, each of these crimes fall under the act of color of law.

There was a time that law enforcement operated without many of the assets they employ today. There were times that criminals were pursued by simple instinct, informants, conversations overheard and the expending of a lot of shoe leather. Many times, just as today, the police were baffled.

Crime fighting in many respects is an art. It can be quantified easily with crime and arrest statistics, something done annually on a national basis by the FBI, but by the same token it remains an art where some investigators tend to be more successful than others.

Just a few of the high profile cases that had baffled crime investigators over the last few centuries were the Ratcliffe Highway Murders in early 1800’s London, the Whitechapel Murders (Jack the Ripper) of the 1880’s London England and The Mad Bomber Case which continued for some sixteen years in New York City during the 1940’s and 50’s.These were crimes that tried some of the best minds in law enforcement, yet lacking credible eyewitnesses and important incriminating evidence not to mention today’s modern DNA profiles, solving the crime proved to be either extremely time consuming or simply impossible.

Psychology and Crime Investigations

It would be fair to say that prior to the 1950’s the science of psychology and the art of crime fighting were two separate vocations with absolutely nothing in common. You could also say there was a degree of animosity in as much as the police felt that crimes got solved by good old fashioned investigations. One case however was considered the pivotal event that blended together the art of crime fighting and the science of psychology.

A series of bombings that transpired in New York City starting in 1942 and lasting until 1956 had the New York City Police Department at a dead end. Small pipe bombs were placed in a variety of locations. The Paramount Theaters both in Manhatten and in Brooklyn, the Grand Central terminal the New York Public Library in Manhatten, Radio City Music Hall, the Consolidated Edison Company headquarters also in Manhatten were some of the sites chosen by the bomber who was eventually referred to by the press and the NYPD as “The Mad Bomber”.

The NYPD was obviously under a lot of pressure to solve this case. The fact that so many years went by without a solid lead in the case made the pressure grow even more. What the police had in their possession after years of investigating were many fragments of the bomb, in some cases, unexploded bombs that were disassembled and a series of letters from the bomber which made mention of the “dastardly deeds” committed by Consolidated Edison. One might suppose that a careful study of who had a grudge against Con-Ed might unmask the bomber, but in reality, many people had grudges against major utility companies for a wide variety of reasons, real and imaginary.

Finally, In 1956, the NYPD investigators asked psychiatrist James Brussel, New York State’s assistant commissioner of mental hygiene, to study crime scene photos and notes from the bomber. It came to the point that any help at all would be better than nothing. To be sure, there was a great deal of skepticism from seasoned investigators as to what value, if any, a psychiatrist could add. After carefully examining all evidence the police had collected over many years, Brussel came up with an amazing detailed description of the suspect: Brussel would suggest that the Mad Bomber would likely be unmarried, foreign, self-educated in electrical knowledge, most likely n his 50s, residing in Connecticut, quite paranoid with a grudge of some sort against Con Edison which was the recipient of the first bomb planted at their Manhatten headquarters. Brussel formed some of these observations from handwriting samples and phrases used in the bomber’s letters. As somewhat general as Brussel’s observation was, this was a first for law enforcement although the detectives present at this meeting were not overly impressed. History shows that there were attempts to determine a persons propensity toward criminal activity even as far back as the Roman times however the characteristics proffered were of a physical nature. Strong jaw, sloped forehead, certain eyes…all of these were studied and nothing of course was proven. James Brussel was the first to actually tie psychiatric elements such as paranoia and psychosis to the cause. Regardless of what some of the rank and file detectives thought, Brussel’s opinions gave the NYPD something to go on and at this point in the investigation it was more than they had otherwise. Brussel also suggested that the police make an attempt to communicate with the bomber. The psychiatrist was convinced that the bomber, through the letters he wrote to both the police and the press, wanted to communicate.

An Offer to Communicate

Up until this point the police had kept a lid on the bomber investigation. One reason was that they didn’t want to encourage copycats. Other reasons were that they didn’t want to panic the public and the fact that they weren’t making solid progress to date meant that higher profile press coverage only pointed out their shortcomings to the reading public. In spite of this, a pivotal decision was made to start communicating with the bomber and this was made in conjunction with and by the urging of the editor of William Randolph Hearst’s New York Journal-American newspaper.

When press coverage picked up there of course were many false tips phoned in. Disgruntled spouses might try to turn in their partner, neighbors might point to a fellow neighbor who in their mind might have been acting suspiciously, confessions from a variety of crackpots and so on. Everything of course had to be checked out and the time and money expended was considerable. There were even suspects who were jailed and placed in front of a judge. One such suspect had to be released after bombs were planted and letters received while he was in jail. This just points out how perplexed the NYPD was with the whole investigation.

After the Journal-American began writing stories publishing the profile given earlier by Dr. Brussel and also suggesting that the bomber communicate his specific grievances with them, letters began arriving. Since the police and papers already had samples of the bombers handwriting it was fairly easy to authenticate the letters received.

The Journal-American, through it’s newspaper classified section and in cooperation with the NYPD, started to communicate back and forth with the bomber. The paper and in reality the police, kept asking for more specifics from the bomber. When the bomber actually cited a specific date he was injured at Con-Ed and that the Workmen’s Compensation Board denied his case, everything of course started to fall in place. Again, although the utility company had plenty of people unhappy with it, specific dates certainly narrowed things down quite a bit. While the communication kept up the police were pressuring Con-Ed for more information from their old files.

The End of the Mad Bomber of New York

After a secretary for Con-Ed found an old file which matched to a tee the information given by the Mad Bomber himself via letters to the New York Journal-American, things came together for the struggling NYPD like never before. They found their suspect living in Waterbury Connecticut. In conjunction with Waterbury police investigators they determined that their man was still residing at the residence that was on file not only with Con-Ed but also with the Workmans Compensation Board from decades earlier.

After being satisfied that the man living at that address was indeed the same man from the Con-Ed files, a joint raid was planned to make an arrest. Interestingly enough, the raid went extremely smooth. In fact, a man named George Metesky answered his door in the middle of the night. After questioning, Metesky led the police to the garage workshop, where they found his lathe. While searching the house they found pipes and connectors for bombs hidden in the pantry and a wealth of other evidence. Metesky went quietly and without incident to the Waterbury police station for further interrogation.

Word spread to the press and the police station was overwhelmed with reporters from both local outlets and from national wire services. After many hours of interrogation in which the suspect confessed to the crime, the suspect waived extradition and was transported back to New York City for processing.

Much of the criminal profile given out by Dr. Brussel proved to be quite accurate. If someone giving a profile that’s perhaps 80% accurate with what evidence existed, that would be quite an accomplishment. This is about how well Brussel did with the first ever criminal profile given to a police department by a psychiatrist. During the time that this case came to an end, psychiatry was realizing a lot of change. Much was being learned and states were reevaluating their institutions which up until then were more of a place of detention as opposed to being a healing hospital. New methods of therapy were being developed and the licensing of care workers became more strict.

What Happened to George Metesky?

After a few years of court hearings and therapy, Metesky was declared insane. He was deemed not in a position to know the scope of his crimes nor help in his defense of the charge. What did happen was that George Metesky was sent to various mental institutions where he spent sixteen years in all. In 1973 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the state of New York could not keep an inmate in a correctional mental institution unless he was proved to be “presently” dangerous. Several doctors concluded that Metesky was harmless, and because he had already served two-thirds of the 25-year maximum sentence he would have received if he would have been convicted during a trial, he was released in December 1973. Metesky was released with the condition that he make regular visits to a Connecticut Department of Mental Hygiene location near his home. There’s much more to the story of George Metesky, his struggle against Consolidated Edison for compensation for his injury and his many court hearings. It’s an interesting story and there are a few good books out on the subject. All in all, Metesky planted some 32 pipe bombs. While there were some injuries involved, fortunately no one lost their life due to his crimes. It was a case where his overriding hatred for the wrongs he felt Con-Ed was responsible for turned into an obsession which drew him deeper and deeper into mental illness. George Metesky wanted attention drawn to his years old struggle with Con-Ed and in his twisted way of thinking the planting of relatively small bombs was a cry for attention. In his mind, there was justification for his ill deeds. George Metesky died in 1993 at the age of ninety. From about 1957 onward, police departments around the country started to use criminal profiling for their hard to solve cases. Today, the FBI has an entire section devoted to criminal profiling.
