Toilets are not like what it used to be last time.

Have you any trouble with the toilets? Especially the sitting toilets?

Not only technology has advance to help us humans out, even the toilet has came out with a new design and style of pleasing their customers. With such technology, who wouldn’t want to visit the toilet at least once every day?

Have you notice how toilet have advance to the toilets of today? It was actually an idea specially for lazy people or forgetful people. In the previous era, just before toilet advance, it was only just “Do-It-Yourself” technology. We had to flush the toilet every time after use. Sometimes there are people who even forgot to flush the toilet, making it too stinky for others to use! Even there is no hose being supply in each cubicle for you to wash your bottoms!

I do not know how and why auto flash toilets are in the market. Some of them do not even work. When you expected it to flash, it will never flash and you have to push a button will it do flash. Even sometimes when you have not finish doing your business in the toilet, it will auto flash while your still sitting on the toilet seats. I don’t know for most people out there about this auto flash thing, but for some people it really do get irritating.

That is not just about it. There is also the thing about not having a hose with a powerful blast to wash your bottoms. Indeed a small pipe being install in the toilet bowl that aims at your bottoms. But those things do not aim right, or should i say that people’s bottoms are not all of the same size! There are many sized people on the planet, ‘S’, ‘M’, ‘L’, and some even goes to ‘XS’ or ‘XL’. Think about those small cute little children who want to make chocolate cake in the toilet. How do you expect them to wash their cute little bottoms? Put their bottoms deeper into the bowl like their are going to just fall in it and get stuck? Some of the people i know, some of my friends, we prefer if the hose are supply to us just in case. Because the water level for that tiny little pipe in the toilet bowl is not big enough to satisfy some certain people. For them, especially the ladies who not only have one hole but two, have to be clean for their private body parts. To have infections growing there is not a very suitable side.

So think about it, not all advance technology has a positive influence. Not every one perfer the new age of toilet technologies.

Most of us spend our quality day time on weekdays (sometimes on weekends too!) at our office desks. With the cubicle system in culture, it is much likely that you have to share your office space with many other people as well (unless, you have got a dedicated office room for you!). Many people have a tendency to make their work station, their comfort zone.

It is good to be comfortable at your work place, which will enhance your productivity. But, there are certain guidelines you need to follow to have a healthy and friendly atmosphere around you. Below is a list of some common and essential points to work station etiquette:

1) While listening to music at your workstation in office, keep a check on your volume, so that your fellow workers don’t get affected.

2) The office phone is placed there for the usage of everyone. Try not to monopolize it and make it your personal phone booth for your personal chit chat.

3) Don’t stay out of your workstation for a cup of coffee or a cigarette for longer duration. If for some reason, you have to stay away from your workstation for more than half an hour, leave a note at your seat with your contact number and other necessary details like the reason of your departure, and when will you come back. Also, make it sure that you inform your neighbours or boss about it.

Image by Extra Ketchup via Flickr

4) If you have a habit of eating snacks or drinking coffee, hot chocolate, tea, etc, at your desk, then always remember to clean up the place, once you are done with your food.

5) Always give your colleagues and neighbors some space. Avoid sharing cabinets and drawers with others.

6) Don’t talk loudly on your mobile phone (or office phone), while staying at your desk.

7) Keep your mobile phone on silent or vibrate mode, throughout the time you spend in your office.

Be an ideal cubicle sharer, and notice the attitude difference of your colleagues and fellow workers towards you.

Different types of bosses create different kinds of problems for their co-workers. It is essential to know how to tackle them.

Bosses can be a real headache at times. There are different categories of bosses. There are those which like to scream and shout. There are those who like to make you work overtime unnecessarily. There are those ones which like to hog all the limelight without giving any credit to their juniors.

Different problems arise while dealing with different kinds of boss. But with a few tactics one can get across even the most difficult kind of bosses. First of all, it is necessary to keep one’s calm in all situations. One must not get aggressive if one’s boss treats them in an unfair manner.

It is first important to analyze what makes your boss go against you. Is it the way you work? Is it the way you present yourself? If there is some functional disorder or something wrong with your appearance or attitude, then try to rectify that.

However, if you feel that your boss is treating you in an unfair manner, then it is necessary to get across and speak to him or her directly as early as possible. Try to keep your point politely but in a firm manner.

If this too does not work, then try to contact a higher authority like the Human Resource team and discuss your problem with them. If nothing else works then just leave the firm and move up. Difficult bosses exist everywhere. One should know how to deal with them.

Short musings on working in an office.

I work in an office. I have worked in some office or other for the last eight years. Before that I was a teacher, but that’s a whole other story. The other day, as I was listening to my boss’ phone conversation with his mechanic, I started to muse about what a strange environment an office is. We are thrown into unwelcome closeness with people we do not choose. We listen to their private affairs because we can’t help it. We smell their lunches and sometimes we are witness to their less than charming habits. It’s almost like family. Here are some observations and some tips to help you survive cube life.

Breakfast

Many people eat as soon as they get to the office because they skipped breakfast at home or because their commute is so long that they’re hungry as soon as they come in. Invariably, they leave bagel crumbs everywhere or slop their yogurt all over their keyboards. When I started my current job, the keyboard I took over was chalk full of some sort of pastry and had white sticky (cream cheese?) stains on the keys. Yuck. It took a lot of Clorox wipes to get it to a usable shape. Tip: get a plate or wipe up after yourself!

Lunch

We are all busy who end up eating lunch at their desks. Kudos to all of you who always go out for lunch or at least get away from you cube. Some people notoriously eat at their desks (me included), which is fine, but not great if half the office can smell what they’re having. Personally, I am allergic to most shellfish and not a fan of seafood in general. Someone always brings fish in for lunch and I end up furiously spraying my green pear body splash in the air just to be able to breathe without gagging. Tip: use your common sense and do not bring in smelly (albeit yummy) items for lunch, or if you do, eat in the lunchroom!

And Everything in Between

Music is a lovely way to help make your day more pleasant. However, this is what earphones were made for. I work with a man who transferred to another department. I went to say hello and heard the soft tones of the radio playing in the background. “Oh, nice,” I said “you have a radio!” My own department is as silent as the grave, apart from the odd phone conversation with someone’s mechanic, of course. My co-worker began furiously whispering “I can’t stand it! They play easy rock all day! If I hear Michael Buble one more time…!” OK, there’s no accounting for tastes. Again, headphones, my friends and that includes people who do not want to listen to the choice of radio station of the day or someone else’s muffler problems.

Personal grooming is best left in the washroom. Nuff said. I don’t want to hear those nail clippers and neither does anyone else!

A word must be said about the use of email though that is not really a cube habit, but certainly an office habit. I am guilty of this, so I really can’t complain when someone does it to me. I have learned the error of my ways though. Here is the thing – people send an email and then rush over to your cube a second later to discuss it. Nobody reads it that fast! I know it’s hard ’cause you’re all excited about that email, but give the other person a chance to read it!

Ah, office life, what a life!

I’m sure there are plenty of interesting office life stories out there. If you want to share, leave a comment!

Let’s face it, working in a cubicle is like letting your dirty laundry out for everyone to see. But if you use simple common sense, working in a cubicle doesn’t have to be all bad. Just try and remember:

Keep personal phone conversations to a minimum. I don’t care what you’re having for dinner tonight and I don’t care if your daughter’s son finally did graduate to “big boy” underpants. It was about time, isn’t he three? I’ve been listening to you and your daughter trying to potty train this kid for two years!

Do not talk so loud that everyone in the entire office can hear you regardless if it is personal or business. Conversation, especially in a cubicle, should be kept to a low decibel, like just between you and the person with whom you are conversing.

If you are conducting business, again do not talk so loud so everyone can hear simply because you want everyone to hear you are actually doing your job.

Personal belongings such as pictures or plants, keep them to a minimum. No one but you loves your family like you do so why put 125 pictures of you, your mate, the kids, the kids’ kids out on display for the world to see. One or two perhaps even three or four tasteful pictures and plants are plenty to claim your cubicle is your own.

Please do something with that stack of papers that has been in the left corner of your cubicle for the past decade. If I’ve noticed it time and again, surely your superior has too.

If work is piling up on your desk and your desk looks like a bomb exploded on it, look around for some “trays.” At least that is a way to have a spot for all your work that has either been addressed or is yet to be addressed.

We know you are clean because your cubicle is the one with all the cleaning supplies from the Dollar Store. Hey, it’s great to be clean, but you aren’t a cleaning woman. You are a professional. One can of Lysol of and one roll of paper towels is plenty when you want to do a quick clean up.

Speaking of quick clean ups-when your trash is overflowing out of the tiny trash can they provide in those cubicles, take the small one that is overflowing and find the huge one that you can empty your tiny one into.

Everyone loves a delicious lunch but when it stinks up the entire office, be kind and dispose of the container in the “big” trashcan outside the cubicle area or at least wash out the container in which you brought your lunch, and don’t forget to take the container home. Nothing is worse than walking into someone’s cubicle and see and old dish or container growing mold-oooooh!

If you smoke or drink, try keeping some mouthwash or an odor freshener handy. People who do not smoke or drink, their noses are quite sensitive. And, yes, I’m talking about alcohol. You’d be surprised how many people come to work the next morning still drunk from the night before. Your co-workers can smell the alcohol. Keep some gum handy too!

Sitting in a cubicle all day can be boring and drab. This article is about things you can do to bring life to your cubicle.

In today’s vastly expanding technological age, there are more and more businesses that operate from little square cubicles. Human beings just are not meant to sit in a cube and stare at a screen all day. Here are 10 ways to make your cube a better place to be…

Bring a small potted plant from home. Tie a brightly colored bow around the pot to add a bit of sparkle to your drab cube.

Bring a favorite photo. It could be of anything; your family, your pet, your favorite vacation spot. Frame it and set it on your desk. This will give you something to look at other than your cube walls.

Change your mouse pad. Take that old dingy company-issued one and replace it with a fun one.

If you are allowed to listen to headphones while you work, bring a portable CD player and a few of your favorite CD’s to listen to. I find this is a great way to pass the time.

Bring a personal calendar to hang on your wall. You will have a different view each month.

Bring a small desk calendar with funny sayings on it that you can change every day.

Use colorful pens to write with. It helps to break the monotony.

Leave your cube during your breaks and lunch. Go outside if the weather permits and get some fresh air. It helps to wake you up and recharge your brain for the rest of the afternoon.

Bring something healthy to snack on. Grapes, carrot sticks or sunflower seeds are a great, low fat snack and they help occupy your time.

Change things up occasionally. Rearrange your desk items. Leaving everything in one place all the time gets boring. Try moving the things on the right side over to the left side, and visa versa. Don’t be afraid to change things up!
