History of the wonderful works of arts in Egypt. How good are you in History, answer the questions on this article.

Image via Wikipedia

For more than 4,000 years, the Phyramids of Giza have been regarded as one of the wonders of the world. Perhaps the greatest wonders of all is how the builders managed to erect them with only the simpliest tools- not even the wheel which came into use in Egypt several of hundreds years after the Pyramids of Giza were finished.

Image via Wikipedia

There are three major Phyramids of Giza, near Cairo, and they were built as the tombs of the three Egyptian Pharoahs, who had the statue of gods on earth. The first and largest, was the monument of Pharaoh Khufu, also known as the great Phyramid, who reigned from about 2,590 B.C to 2,567 B.C. The Phyramid is 480 feet tall. It’s base covers over 13 acres and is 750 feet square. The Phyramid is built of about 2,300,000 blocks of stones, weighing an average of of more than 2-1/2 tons each. Some weight more than 15 tons and the granite roof slabs of Khufu’s burial chamber weigh 50 tons.

Image via Wikipedia

The Phyramids are built on the slight hill on foundations of solid rocks. A nearby outcrop of rocks form the lower part of the Great Sphinx. Today, the outskirts of the city of Cairo reach virtually to the foot of the phyramids, but when the phyramids were built, the site was out in the dessert.

Image via Wikipedia

It is also the ancient Egyptian temples that the visual arts – painting, sculpture, and achitectue – found fullest expression. The temples shared the massive quality of Hatshepsut and the temple at Abu Sembel. Others, such as those of Lukor and Kamak were of the pylon type.

Sorry that it's been awile, school caught up to me.

 Hey!

So yea, it’s been awhile, sorry. School got really hard with midterms coming up and all. They are over now so I thought I would write now.

Midterms went alright I guess, for the first time I have ever taken midterms in my life. I bombed Latin 2, then again so did all 5 of the other students. We only have one latin teacher in the school so us Latin 2’s don’t get taught much, not enough time. I didn’t do so hot in math either, pretty sure I failed. I did decent I think in everything else, we’ll find out when the grades are posted. So I guess you could say its going alright. My parents are grounding me until I have no D’s in any classes, which will pretty much be impossible in Latin 2. But they decided not to ground me over Chrstmas break which is good. Oh yea, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Many of our democratic institutions are old and may be living by outdated concepts. We claim representation of "The People" by "The People" yet many of our representatives know not what our needs are. In truth western democracy has developed a system of voting every few years for the person who least misrepresents us. Does this need to change and introduce participation not representation?

Very often in business and in society generally there are not enough people who will oppose a proposal that is made by a leader. Sometimes it is essential to have someone say “no, this is wrong” and be prepared to back up that statement with a reasoned argument, putting forward a viable alternative. It seems at times there is a general contentedness with the status quo and a fear about the need to question things. There can be too many “yes” men!

We accept that original thought is key to inventiveness; yet too many people have picked the path of acceptance that ‘what is’ will always be. Another path of acceptance occurs when a person believes in an alternative, but are not prepared to insist on change. They rest on the couch and think merely of the next episode of their favourite TV show. Yet the world must change and it is always important to question things and each of us should do this in every aspect of our lives.

This article is taking a slightly different tack to these in that it is looking at the way political institutions are run across western democracies and how sometimes the existing system of representation stifles the ability of society to change and respond to the demands of the people in general.

In politics I have always been concerned that we get an opportunity once every few years to vote for the person who will least misrepresent us. This is a part of the problem the democratic systems face and may explain the general low level of enthusiasm found during many elections. When I look at my local political representative I find that I disagree with most of what they stand for, yet also look at their opponents and cannot agree with their platform either. Quite a dilemma, one faced by the vast majority of people.

In the western world we talk about letting the people decide, yet the truth is that the people are not a normal part of the process. Electing representatives every few years is NOT letting the people decide.

When our democracies were setup (between 250 and 450 years ago) we needed to send representatives because of the distance that had to travelled and often because of the educational level of the people. The distance factor may be the same today, but we can get there quicker using the motor car or the jet-plane. Also in the past we selected experts at debating with great knowledge as our democratic representatives. Today we have a better educated populace and open lines of communication, yet we live by a system of representation that is outdated.

Image via CrunchBase

The truth is that “The People” are better equipped today to give their own views about all subjects (and frequently do so via Linkedin, Facebook and other social web sites). What society needs today is fewer ‘representatives’ and more real involvement from the people. Again it is true that “The People” are better equipped than they have ever been to make decisions that affect their own future. Although the political parties are afraid afraid of true democracy and don’t want people making decisions for themselves. They see it as anarchy and lacking control and discipline.

Ultimately a new form of democracy is needed which will enable the ideas of the general public to move society forward, not stale ideas pursued by political parties, who are haunted by their own traditions. Just because something has always been done a particular way does not mean this has to be the way we operate into the future. Unlike the un-democratic world we have the right to have our voice be heard. Yet at the same time our democratic system must undergo change in order to democratise it further.

Next time you hear the voice of dissent, be prepared to listen for a while. Remember that the person who disagrees with you should they have a reasoned alternative, this may actually work.

People who once became a part of my life and some I truly treasured and considered my good friends. Memorable experiences we had together.

People that likes to blow things up-(Bomber man), people that likes to sleep –(in General). People who always hangs up (Norwood) and people that always want a day off and doesn’t mind his co-workers (Azkals). Wahgi wagi waghi hihihi 9.5 ako, There are also some co-workers that always have a negative side comment in every thing what we do (Negative Man or NegaMan). Some always ask the News-“Anong Balita?” And even said that are you satisfied with that? “Ok na sayo yan?”.

There are some people that are always happy when make other lives miserable. (Mighty Joey oung), Smell your NG units –(SanBelle), The photography major (Mini-Cam). AAAAAHHHHH – (Garland Green) Little miss Gloria (Con Air). Miss bulok (Left over Raquel). Respect me I’m wearing Blue(Doc).

But there are person who stands out, literally stands out and taking a smoke most of the time. (Monkey and friends). Stand on guard and checking thing up to your underwear (Kap Kap). Performers with built in twitters (Nyorks), and band mates with stutter beats (Pppppppre). But nothing can beat the wonderful words and vocabulary of our beloved worm man.

“Eventually there are some dark times in our lives and there in then true friendship emerges. They are the one who respect and support you even you did something wrong, doesn’t judge you right away and give you advices to overcome problems. This is what true friendship is and I can say that I experience the good and bad side of friendship with in a company.”

But generally it is like a roller coaster ride when we are dealing with different kinds of people. Can experience happy and funny moments, can also have some trials and sad moments. But the important lesson is every experience we had, there is always a lesson to be learned which can make us better persons in the process. Looking forward to many experiences with my friends and even with my foes.

This rail crash happened close to the town of Selby in North Yorkshire, England on the 28th of February 2001. Ten people were killed in the crash and 82 suffered serious injuries.

The crash happened shortly after 6.00am when a vehicle towing a fully loaded trailer came off the M62 motorway and traveled down the embankment and stopped on the southbound railway track. The vehicles driver at first attempted to reverse off the track, when this failed he attempted to call the emergency services to alert them to the danger. He was away from the vehicle and on the phone when a southbound Intercity train from Newcastle to London hit the stationary vehicle at over 120 mph.

The train was derailed but remained upright, the collision had sent it across the tracks and into the path of a freight train travelling in the opposite direction. The two trains collided about half a mile from the spot where the vehicle had caused the initial incident. Leading engine carriage of the Intercity train was almost completely destroyed and the remaining nine coaches suffered damage ranging from severe to moderate. All the coaches had overturned and were down an embankment. The freight trains engine was on its side with major damage inflicted on the area of the drivers cab and one side, the first nine freight wagons were derailed with varying levels of damage.

The intercity train had reduced its speed to about 88mph after the initial collision with the vehicle, the freight train was going at 54 mph. the combined speed at the time of the collision was 142 mph making it the highest speed collision to have occurred on the railway in the UK.

The drivers of both trains were killed, as were two other members of the intercity trains crew. One miraculous escape was by an instructor travelling in the cab of the freight train and teaching the driver a new route. The intercity train was carrying a total of 99 passengers and staff. Had it been later in the day and closer to its capacity of 544 passengers then the number of those killed would certainly have been higher. 45 of the serious injuries and all the fatalities were in the front five coaches.

The driver of the vehicle that initially started the chain of events that led to the crash escaped without a scratch. He claimed his car had suffered a mechanical fault or had hit an object in the road. His vehicle was reconstructed and proved to have no mechanical defect prior to the collision with the train. The investigation did find though that the driver had been driving in a state of sleep deprivation and had not applied the brakes when travelling down the steep embankment, It also had found that the previous night he had been up all night chatting to a woman on the telephone. The driver of the vehicle was later found guilty by ten counts of causing death by dangerous driving, he was sentenced to just five years in prison, He was released after serving just half of his sentence.

Sometimes when people get fired their life goes up a notch.

I used to work in a factory job making newspapers and one night I was at my machine working when I was assaulted by three men and when I went to report it I was suspended indefinitely following an investigation and then two months after that I got a letter in the mail stating that I was fired.

I hated the job and the people there because they let a certain group of people think that they ran the place and they did not do as much work as other people and got all of these special privileges on the job because they always made sure that one of them was having sex with a supervisor or a mechanic.

I called them the whores on the job and they were the real powers that be. You have no idea what it means to have a simple easy factory job and then have a bunch of idiots come in and ruin it by adding office politics to the job just to make it more complicated for no reason at all.

So I got fired and I recently ran into an old co-worker of mine. She said that all the whores decided that they were going to sign up to do quality control and no longer work on the machines. She also said that everybody had to take a pay cut of at least a dollar as the company was in bankruptcy. They also said that they were not going to pay for overtime any longer. There would be no more time and a half and also double time and a half for six shifts worked all overtime would be going in as straight time.

The general feeling on the factory floor was that they could afford to continue to pay the salaries but they just didn’t want to pay people a decent wage for working there. Reading between the lines I knew that that was going to happen. When I was there I had a special way of working so that I took out all of the bad papers and reduced the amount of red light errors so that there was little downtime for the machine. However, the people around me used to like to play around all of the time and even walk away from their machine and joke and just general adult foolishness.

So if they needed all of these quality control people then that means that when I left the job the quality of the product went down and overtime went up because of people fooling around all of the time. So when I heard that they all got a pay cut in the collating department I thought wow, now that is some poetic justice right there!

Statistically, more men become mass murderers than women, but this lady from Liege in Belgium became a real digitalis dame back in the 1930s and it’s claimed she poisoned at least 10 people.

Marie Becker was born in the late 19th century in Liege, married a cabinet maker, Charles Becker, when she was 33 and was considered to be a model wife but, after about 20 years, unbeknown to her friends and neighbours, she was becoming disillusioned with her life so it didn’t take much to lure her away from her dull existence and opt for a more exciting and profitable one.

One day when Marie was visiting a local market stall she was approached by a Lambert Bayer and, obviously flattered by the approach, she began an affair with Bayer. Her dull husband became a hindrance to her so, deciding that divorce was out of the question, she hit on the idea of knocking him off. She got hold of a good dose of digitalis, administered it to the poor cabinet maker and then collected a good sum on his life policy.

Marie obviously enjoyed being quite a wealthy woman and apparently opened up her own upmarket dress shop and, in the meantime, she was able to indulge in her “bit on the side”, Lambert Bayer. Obviously it was the forbidden fruit element of her affair with Bayer that was the attraction so, in November 1934, the excitement having begun to wane somewhat, he had to go but not before he had made a Will leaving all to Marie. Like Charles Becker, Lambert Bayer was given a lethal does of digitalis

Following this inheritance it seems Marie began to live the real high life; attending dance halls and taking home young toy boys in the wee small hours, much to the annoyance of her neighbours. Unfortunately this joie de vivre seriously began to eat away at her savings and, as the dress shop couldn’t sustain a large enough income to finance the lavish lifestyle, she had to think of another way to lay her hands on some ready cash.

As fortune had it, one of her elderly friends, Marie Castadot, became ill in July 1935 so Marie Becker (Bayer) out of the goodness of her heart (not!) took on the role of nurse. Marie Castadot had been suffering from dizziness and nausea so nobody suspected that murder was afoot when she died on 23 July of that year.

Becker now had a taste for blood – or poison! – and to increase her income to maintain her “good time girl” life, she began befriending other elderly ladies who she promptly poisoned. She then came up with her most brilliant plan to date! Her dress shop was frequented by quite a few wealthy, elderly ladies so she began poisoning her customers.

She had a good system going – she would undertake private viewings of her dresses at the customer’s home and, during the inevitable companionable cup of tea, Marie would slip a bottle of digitalis out of her bag and nip a drop or two into the customer’s tea. As soon as the poison began to take effect, Marie would swiftly stuff into a bag as much money and jewellery and such other small but valuable items from the customers homes as she could carry and, as these women apparently died at home on their own, nobody would suspect that Marie had any hand in the death.

Marie may well have gone on to commit further murders undetected but she became a little blasé about it all and when a friend made the remark that her husband was being particularly annoying and she wished that he would die, Marie took her at her word and said that she could provide said friend with a powder that could be given to him and which wouldn’t leave any traceable evidence.

Being a little disturbed by what Marie had implied, the friend immediately went to the police who divulged that they already had their suspicions about Marie as several anonymous letters had been sent to them setting out concerns about Marie’s behaviour but they were unable to pin any actual evidence on her. This revelation by the friend gave the police exactly the excuse they had been looking for to take their investigations further, so they visited Marie and took her into custody on suspicion of murder.

They duly exhumed the bodies of her husband and such of her deceased friends and customers that had come to the attention of the police, and, upon closer examination, discovered that traces of digitalis were found in the corpses. Based on that, they then searched Marie’s house where they found various items of jewellery and other possessions belonging to her victims and a bottle of digitalis.

Marie was charged with murder.

At the trial, various witnesses told the Court that Marie had attended the funerals of her victims and had shown considerable grief, weeping and wailing by the graveside, but then, shortly after the funerals, she had regularly been seen laughing, dancing and drinking in nightclubs and spending money like water.

Needless to say, the evidence produced was pretty damning so it took little time for the Court to find Marie guilty of murder. She received a life sentence, there being no death penalty in Belgium. Apparently she died in prison some time during the Second World War, i.e. less than 10 years after her conviction.

Over a two year period, it was known that at least 10 victims had ingested the fatal tea additive, but how many other customers or friends had she poisoned during her “death by digitalis” days? She had obviously selected victims who had no known families or relatives likely to come forward and inform the police of any connection between Marie and said victim so La Dame Digitalis may well have seen off a good many more wealthy widows or solvent spinsters!

So, you’ve been dating/living/married to your man for some time and some of his habits makes you physically ill: he leaves the toilet seat up, he leaves his socks on the floor, and/or he drinks the last drop of milk and puts the carton back in the refrigerator. All annoying traits, yes, but are they signs you should through him out like yesterday’s trash? I’ve compiled a list of signs that can give you a clue that it might be time to give your man his walking papers.

1) He no longer considers your feelings

If you break your leg and your man doesn’t even visit you in the emergency room, that’s a problem. It shouldn’t have to come to that extreme: little signs that indicate a lack of empathy should be enough for you to know that your relationship has run its course. Need some examples? You have a bad day (and it’s written on your face) and he doesn’t ask you about it. You have a headache and he doesn’t offer you an aspirin. If you are in pain, whether physical or mental, and your man says or does nothing…that’s someone who doesn’t care about you.

2) He has become the invisible man

When you’re with someone, they should be there. If you are in a long distance relationship, that’s one thing. If your man lives across town but you hardly ever see him…that’s a sure clue that he’s just not into you anymore.

3) He becomes “Mr. X”

You used to know your man inside and out but now you don’t know what’s going on in his life. For all you know he’s changed jobs, his name, his hair-color, his sexual orientation. You can’t be in a relationship if you don’t even know the person you’re in a relationship with.

4)You can’t stand the very sight of him

You used to love his face. The cute way he smiled at you. Now…whenever you see him you want to throw up. Before, he said the cutest things. Now, if he speaks you want to slap him. Again, this may be extreme but if you don’t have an attraction to your man anymore, that’s a BIG problem.

5)No Sex

This one doesn’t include for medical reasons. This one doesn’t include those couples who had a slow sex life to begin with. This clue is for those couples that were having sex but now don’t. Depending on how long you’ve been together, a natural decrease in the frequency is normal. I’m talking about the total absence of any desire for your man. When you don’t want to have sex with your man under any circumstance,s that is a major problem.
