This survey also shows more women than men often make resolutions. As many as 63 percent of female respondents admitted they made a resolution every year, while only 50 percent of men who do the same. Women also tend to be more open, to let resolutions that they made to others. While 93 percent of male respondents said the resolution is personal and only for yourself not to be disclosed to others.

Obviously, women behave differently towards those they love: love is just a four letter word.

Xanthe Gregolyelhai is 24 old. In relationships, she is usually the one who starts fights. She tends to make all of the big decisions when she is with someone. Men she has loved have accused her of being a perfectionist. She tends to get jealous very easily. She likes to be very involved in her sweetie’s life. No matter how many times she has been hurt: she is always happy and she does not show angry or resentment. In general, she prefers to have only one love interest.

Yahsarah Hebyalifsarpri is 23 years old. She does not believe in the concept of soulmates. She thinks that love at first sight does not happen. She believes that it is impossible to love someone unconditionally. It takes her a while to show enthusiasm, affection, kindness to someone she is dating. She has had a wide range of love experiences. She believes in love, but she knows it does not come easily. She speaks about “love at first sight” and “soulmates” in a scornfully derisive way.

Zandra Heldefmansan is 22 years old. She needs her space in a relationship. She things that in a relationship it is unhealthy to spend every night together. There are some things she really enjoys about being single. She often feels trapped and oppressed in relationships. She has had only one relationship. She still has a lot to learn, and a lot to try! She does not need to be in love, and sometimes she does not even want love. She says that having her own life is very important for her.

Valentia Latstrhea is 25 years old. She imagines herself with only one person for the rest of her life. In relationships, she is never tempted to cheat. She thinks that if someone cheats, a relationship should probably end. She has never cheated on anyone. She finds it easy to be devoted and loyal to one person, and in return she expects the same from who she loves. She gives her sweetie a lot of freedom. She is an eternal optimist when it comes to love and romance. She believes in one true love, her perfect person ideally suited to her. Even if she has not found true love yet, she knows it will come soon. She does not have any problem sharing her life. In her opinion, the best part of being in love is being together. This does not mean she is dependent in relationships.

Wanda Wenslanoreasger is 30 years old. She has had at least two boyfriends. She has dated someone for over a year. Unfortunately she has had her heart broken. Also she has broken someone’s heart. It’s hard for her to imagine being with one person at time. She has loved, lost, and loved again. She has had a wide range of love experiences. It is hard for her to stay devoted for too long. All her relationships have been very similar.

Are all mother and daughter exactly alike?

Like Mother, Like Daughter!

Is this statement always true or false? Does every daughter follow their in their mother’s footsteps?

No, because both of these people are individuals with their own personalities. They have their likes and dislikes.

Today, I am talking about the personalities of both parties. I had a friend that was sweet and helped me through some rough times in my life. She was down to earth and expected nothing in return for her help.

Her personality was sweet and nice to anyone she met. She was not a rich lady and worked as a store clerk for over thirty years. Remember one day coming out of Wal-Mart with this special lady and she saw a mother trying to explain to her daughter why she couldn’t buy her the coat, snow pants, and boots she wanted. They had just arrived in town and had to save their money to get a place to stay. Had stop in Wal-Mart to get warm and doing some window shopping inside.

My friend went over to her and explains who she was to the mother. Taking both by their hands, she led them back into the store and bought the little girl the items she wanted plus some new clothes, a new doll, and some hygiene items. Watching as my friend spread the joy and love of Christmas around to these two, I decided to do my part.

I booked them into a nearby hotel for a week and got the mother a job at my friend’s restaurant.

The daughter of my friend came to town and found out what her mother had done. She started to yell at being such an old fool and that those two probably were big scammers. Finally, having enough listening to the daughter I told her to shut up. The daughter looked at me in stunned silence and slammed off into the room she had in her mother’s house. Looking at my friend, I said “Sorry!” Shrugging her shoulders and said “Why? She will get over it and if she doesn’t, so what

We're all alone together.

“It sucks, doesn’t it?”
    “What?”
“Being alone.” I dipped my toes into the icy water and scrutinized the gray stalactites. As I shifted my hand, a single stone fell against the craggy floor and echoed throughout the cave. It was quite lonely there.
    “Yeah, it does.”
“Why are we alone, Armi? Did we choose this?”
I nodded slowly. “Of course we chose it. We wanted to be individual. We wanted to be the best. We also wanted to be good, which goes against humanity’s natural trend. We chose to be alone.”
Aaron sighed and sat down beside me, accepting it. “Were we wrong?”
I blinked as drips of water rippled past my left foot. “It depends on how you look at it. We went against the natural flow. If the general consensus is assumed to be the right answer, then we are wrong for going against it. However, not everyone within that general group believes that the general consensus is right; it’s simply what they do. Then it could be argued that anyone else is ignorant of the truly right path, but that would leave you and I as the only people that are right in the world. That can’t be right, can it? And even if it is, no one would believe us. No one could really know, could they?”
“But if we were right, wouldn’t people agree with us? If multiple people were right, they would team up, wouldn’t they? And since it makes no sense for only two people to be right, wouldn’t it have to work that way?”
“Teaming up gives way to compromise. Compromise could take away the accuracy of the correct path. To be entirely correct, one would have to accept all correct views, and refuse to be influenced by those that are not correct. Anyone else wanting to be correct would need to conform to the correct path.”
“Isn’t that what we try to do? We conform to what we believe is correct.”
“Hardly. We conform to what everyone agrees on. Not everyone wants to follow the correct path, so we find a middle ground for conformity.”
    “Is conformity wrong?”
    “Not if it’s correct.”
“Now I’m confused.” He untied his shoes and dropped them on the cave floor. The second echoed louder than the first.
    “I think we all are.”
“But Armiella- If no one can be right, and no one can agree on what exactly is right, why is conformity bad? Aren’t we coming closer to the general consensus?”
“Do you often agree with the general consensus?”
    “Well, generally.”
“I don’t. I think the general consensus is confused.”
    “Well… so are you.”
“Yes, but I would rather take my own word than the word of those who don’t live inside of me.”
He reached out as if to take my hand, hesitated, and took it back again. “Can’t you just ignore it? Pretend everyone agrees? Agree to disagree?”
I huffed and shook my head. “For a little while, yes. That’s what I’ve always done in the past. Eventually, though, there are facts you have to face. Loneliness is just a hard one to swallow.”
“You always swallow the hardest pills… Most would switch to something softer.”
“And deal with the horrific taste? I would rather take the pain.”
    “You are different.”
    “I am lonely.”
    “So am I.”
    “So is everyone else.”
He reached over and laid a hand on top of mine. “It’s a lonely world out there. At least we’re not alone.”

Every December people are scared to greet each other, the reins of political correctness have frightened people from exchanging positive wishes. Don't yell at me if I say Happy Holidays.

I was inspired to write this by my good friend Karen Gross and her article “I want to wish you a Merry Christmas”, in which she asks if people are offended by her wishing them a Merry Christmas. Indeed many people are offended, it is not “Politically correct” to force religion down somebody else’s throat, but is wishing somebody a Merry Christmas actually forcing anything down another’s throat?

Now I do want to mention that while Karen is a Christian, I am not, while Karen celebrates Christmas as the birth of Jesus, I do not. I do not celebrate Christmas for the same reason as Karen but this does not mean that I have to be cruel to her and insult her reasons for celebrating. And before you ask… I do celebrate “Christmas” with the same traditions that predate Christianity – the tree, the gifts, and so forth, I just do not associate it with the birth of Jesus. If somebody wishes me a Merry Christmas, I thank them, why would I mad or insulted?

But not too many years ago I was yelled at while working in a retail store, I said “Happy Holidays” to a lady customer and she freaked out, you would have thought I charged her too much for her purchases. What is so wrong with saying Happy Holidays? It’s not like I said “Happy Saturnalia“* or called her ugly.

Just because a person is not the same religion as you should not be any reason you cannot send them greetings?

Image by The U.S. Army via Flickr

Why cant we wish happy Diwali to East Indians and others that celebrate it? I did earlier this year after eating at an East Indian restaurant. I also wished Eid Mubarak to my internet Muslim friends earlier this year – and why not? I would wish people happy Kwanzaa too if I knew anyone that celebrated it.

Just because we do not share the same religion does not mean we should be so ignorant to bash somebody for offering us good wishes.

I still wonder why that lady was so cruel to me on that day when all I did was wish her happy holidays? Perhaps she is happier off being miserable.

*Saturnalia is one of the ancient December 25 holidays that predated Christianity, in which trees were decorated, gifts were exchanged, and the ancient pagans welcomed back the return to the sun in the sky, and celebrated the virgin birth of the sun God.

Challenges that Erin Gruwell faced:

- Getting no support from the Head of the English Department and also fellow teachers about her plans to get better books for her class
-

- Having to divorce her husband
-

- Getting her students to trust and believe in her
-

- Getting her students to become one, united and strip them of the racism that they’ve grown up to know and live by
-

[Host] Good afternoon everybody and welcome to yet another segment of “____” Tonight we have a very special guest, you may recognise her as the heroine of the movie “Freedom Writers”. Please put your hands together for her, Erin Gruwell everybody!

*greets Erin* Thank you for being here.

[Erin Gruwell] *smiles* Thank you for having me.

[Host] Yes, well let’s get down to business now should we.

[Erin Gruwell] *smiles with a light laugh* Sure.

[Host] Well we all know of the great and positive impacts that you had on your students, but what we want to know is how and why you did some things that you did through your journey.

[Erin Gruwell] *nods* ok

[Host] For example, why did you find two part time jobs just so your students could get better equipment?

[Erin Gruwell] Well after being refused any new books (or equipment?) from Ms. Campbell (Head of English at Wilson High) and also the lack of support from fellow teachers, I didn’t have a choice really. My kids (I could tell) have potential to be just like everyone. So I want … I mean they’d be willing to learn, if the school actually gave them good enough books, not ripped up ones.

[Host] Yes I see your point.

Today's Third Rail.

Tonight, I was skimming through a few articles from fellow penspeople and ran into one about how beauty is measured in height and proportion in people.

That got me thinking that, OMG, everyone on Earth is prejudiced. The mere fact that we feel and express like and dislike of some things and people over others makes us de facto prejudiced.

I know that I am prejudiced against a lot of things:

. Chicken and turkey_ I hate poultry.

. Expensive produce rotting on the store shelves.

. Cars whose price equals the down payment on a home and are ready for

the bone-yard before they are paid-off.

And I could go on and you could add to the list without thinking too hard.

I am also prejudiced against some types of people:

                                                 . Rude people

                                                 . Liars

                                                 . Bullies

                                                 . Criminals

                                                 . Ambulance Chasers

                                                 . Politicians(see second bullet)

And, again, I could go on and you could include countless more.

My only “hang-up” about people is with race…ethnicity. It arouses my curiosity. Where they came from. Their language. Their customs and traditions. Their history. And so on…

Being that I work with many people from other lands, I find myself learning a lot from all of them. Among many things, I learn that their basic needs, wants, likes and dislikes are very similar to my own. And that is what makes them “my people”. We hear a lot about promoting diversity. Diversity is not something that you create, grow, promote and what have you. It simply exists. It is a fact of life. All we need to do is welcome it and learn from it. Let us keep in mind that our Creator had a purpose in mind for all creation.

As an aside, I was once told that W.C. Field, when asked by a reporter wether he was prejudiced, responded with two short sentences: ” I am not prejudiced. I hate everyone equally…” …hmmm…

Oh well, we all have our own cross to bear. I can only add: “Viva la diversitee”…
