Every since Micheal was bitten on a night of the full moon 10 yrs ago he has fought to retained his humanity.Being a person of both world his struggles has been a hard one.But his will won out and he took his curse and turned It Into a gift that he could wield to saved himself and used on his mission to saved the dogs from being wiped out.The human race have turned their backs on the dogs outlawing them and slaughtering them Into a state of near extinction. His own dog being part of the lost dogs he swore his alliance to end the war.A war that was brought Into creation due to a rabies strain a virus that turned people Into mindless killers. Dogs went back to their past way of life, surviving In the woods fending for their selves.Even he had to banished himself to the woods only coming out to save stray dogs that wandered Into the city to hunt for food.A stray dog In the city almost always ended up dead.Shot by a cop or rounded up to be killed later on.He had learned to horned his wolf side to the point where no one could stand In his way to save the race of the dogs and his race. The dogs have learn to accept him as one of their own,and he could even talked to them and understood them too.

But a new threat had risen that threatened not only his way of life, but also the dogs too.So they had to learned to fight as a pack would have In the past to assured that they would survived the outcome of this war that was being raged on them.A threat bigger then anything they have had to face before.A new race of humans that were mutated Into a new race being.Part human and part wolf, the rabies virus was broken down to where they could used It to create a super race of being stronger then anyone have ever thought possible before and more animal In nature human.Their thirst for blood was unmatched by any of the known animals on the planet. They were faster and meaner then anything before them. And took great joy In ripping things apart. He had almost been killed by the last two that found him before but have manage to killed them instead. And they had no Ideal how many more of them were out there too.

Ok, I don't hate these things but dang, they are annoying...

I hate the teen age years. I love my children, but can’t they somehow pass over the whole, ‘I know it all and Mom sucks’ phase?

I hate being so skinny. I am fairly tall and weigh only 104 pounds. People always get tips on how to lose weight and look good, but what about me? There in no way to make a stick look nice.

I hate how people assume that I am ill because I am skinny, people have actually asked me if I make myself puke or if I starve myself! OOH, this is so irritating! I don’t ask obese people is they ate too much or sat around too much!

I hate how eveyone I know thinks that I am a geek. So what, I like to read, are they jealous or what?

I hate house breaking puppies. Actually, I hate when some one else steps in the doo doo because I am the only one who apparently can smell. And, I am the only that will clean it up and put the pup outdoors. I also hate how everyone acts like it is my job to clean up the accidents, even if they see the doo doo, they won’t clean it, they will yell “Mom, there’s doggie doo….”

I hate how male cats like to pee on plastic. What the heck is the deal with that? Can’t they pee on a tree like dogs?

I hate how my cat leaves dead creatures with their guts hanging out, under my dining room table!

Ok, enough ranting this morning… if you can’t tell, this has not been one of my best mornings…..

If you want to get a new pet dog an animal shelter is a great place to start. However many people walk into the shelter and are turned away, turned down, or confused about the whole process. Learn what to do before you go to the shelter, what to expect at the shelter, and how to adopt the perfect dog.

Before you Go to the Animal Shelter

Before you go to pick out a dog, prepare your home. Find out if you can have a dog; if you have a landlord you need his/her permission. If you do not have a fully fenced yard, or a dog run, you will probably be turned down for adoption, especially of a larger dog. Most shelters do not allow dogs to be kept on chains in the backyard as studies have indicated that such dogs are more likely to be aggressive – in fact some cities have by-laws against it, and allowing the dog to roam is not being a responsible owner.

Do your breed research. Doing breed research will help you avoid coming home with a dog that is totally unsuited for your lifestyle. Make mental notes of your lifestyle; how much time do you have for a dog, is fur an issue, and so forth. Intelligent dogs need owners who have loads of time to spend with the dog or are prone to becoming destructive. Non-shedding dogs often require daily grooming to prevent their hair from becoming matted and need regular hair cuts. Some dog breeds were bred to hunt, these dogs are more likely to chew kids toys, and may be nippy as well. Most dogs will not be purebreds but breed research will still be helpful.

You can go on the shelter’s website to research their policies and to see the animals for adoption however it should be noted that most animal shelters do not update their websites regularly so pictures do not necessarily represent the dogs that the shelter has up for adoption at that time, it is best to visit them.

How to Pick the Right Dog at the Animal Shelter

When you arrive at the animal shelter tell the staff basically what you are looking for, they may point you in the right direction or suggest a few good dogs for you. From there it is up to you to select a dog that appeals to you. You can usually take prospective dogs for a walk.

Once you have selected the dog you like you usually ask to fill out an adoption questionnaire to adopt that dog. If you do not find a dog you like some shelters allow you to fill out a “pet request” where they will call you if other dogs come into their care, however you should check on your own as well.

In some cases, if you are not sure, you can ask the shelter to hold the dog for 24 hours to think it over.

Overall

Adopting a pet should never be a rushed decision or a whim. It requires thought and planning to make sure you get the best dog, and that you are the best home for the dog you get. A dog is a lifetime commitment.

Determining whether your little boy is evil or has psychological problems and needs help.

Is your four year old a quiet little boy who spends most of his time alone and is preoccupied with dissecting frogs or hurting the kitten or dog? Have you seen him perpetrate an evil act against another child? Have you been to a doctor about it and do you have a gut feeling that what he is doing is strange and unusual? Trust your instinct. A parent knows instinctively when something is wrong. Your sister has children and her children aren’t like that; they play with other children and have the usual playmates. We have also seen films where children indulge in strange behavior and are called bad seeds no one wants to play with. Would your child push another child off a high ledge?

Happy Children Playing Kids (Photo credit: epSos.de)

Not normal behavior

Just as you would take a sick child or one who has an infection to a doctor, you should make an appointment with a child psychologist to see if something is the matter with him. We have had several examples of child killers who have indulged in strange behavior with other children and who have also swung cats against the wall, kept a dead body in a fridge, or disemboweled his or her own pet. This is not normal behavior and should be taken seriously and investigated. No one wants to believe that someone can be that evil but history has shown that debauchery and crimes against children are alive and well everywhere in the world. No one wants it to be their child, but the reality is there for all of us. We can’t blame the child if his wiring is faulty and he needs psychotherapy, but we can do something by telling a family member who is in denial that the child needs to be examined by a doctor and seen to.

Signs to watch out for

· The child has no friends and does not even play with his sister.

· He is preoccupied with lizards and mice which he keeps in his room and eventually dissects.

· He is afraid of children getting too close to him.

· He wards off friendships with other children.

· He is secretive and evasive and displays no love and affection towards his siblings.

· His mother is afraid to chastise him or say anything and the family lives in fear and disbelief.

· He locks his bedroom so no one can enter.

That is not to say that every child who is broody and a little strange is a killer in the making, but it is better to err on the side of safety. You will satisfy your own mind and also protect the rest of the family by seeking professional help and sticking with the therapy for as long as it is necessary.

Man is a lucid animal. He diverges from the other animals by the ownership of a feature called sagacity. His sagacity facilitates him to differentiate between right and wrong.

That is, by means of his sagacity he can distinguish what is right and what is not. Man is, accordingly, higher to animals.

But his behavior towards them does not demonstrate him as such. He is higher to animals in understanding.

This understanding, in which lies his authority, has allowed him to make the animals submissive to him. So it is sought-after that he should b sympathetic and thoughtful to them.

Diverse sorts of animals serve us in dissimilar methods. The farmers are unable do anything without oxen.

The cows and buffaloes provide us milk, which is the most excellent of all the nourishing foods.

The people who subsist in wilderness are unable do without camels since they are used for transporting and hauling loads.

The horse is another true animal. It hauls carts and holds load. In a number of countries it is even used in tilling the land.

The dog is another sincere animal. It safeguards our house at night. It makes us attentive about the burglars and any other hazard.

The people, who exist in infertile regions where crops are not grown-up, nurture sheep and goats for their profits.

Among the wild animals, the elephant is used for traveling and pulling weighty loads. Even the violent tigers, lions and bears are used to gain money for men.

But do we demonstrate our thankfulness to them by means of sympathetic behavior. The answer is a definite in negative.

Children especially, who are the most cruel to the animals for the sake of their sport. They often handle brutally with animals, particularly the household animals such as dogs, cats etc.

They do not recognize that what is sport to them is acute anguish or even death to others. The children should be made to comprehend that it is extremely incorrect to be ruthless to animals.

The adult people are no less pitiless to the animals. They are frequently established to impose ruthless nastiness to animals.

The drivers of the bullock-carts and horse-carriages and the tillers of the soil are a number of the living instances of cold-blooded brutality to animals.

These people are from time to time institute to lash their bullocks and horses so nastily that blood emerges of their bodies.

The animals are so helpful to us. They are unable to even complain for the reason that they are dumb. So we must at all times be sympathetic and thoughtful to them.

This is for people who are considering bringing a new pet into their home.

There are many things to consider in regards to what is the best time to adopt a pet. Some factors lay with you and your lifestyle. Others are issues with the animal shelter you intend to adopt from. Let us look at factors dealing with you and your life first, then we will talk about the animal shelters.

We are going to assume you have done your breed research, and know you can afford a pet, and that your home is more or less ready for a pet (have a fenced yard or dog run).

Are you settled? If you are going to be moving soon it may be better to wait until you have moved. If you are about to go on a vacation, you should wait until you get home before getting a pet.

What are your days off? If getting a puppy, or even a dog, it can be good to get one when you have time off so you can house train it and get it settled in.

Now let us look at some of the factors about the shelter where you are going to get your new pet from.

Every animal shelter is different, although they may get pets in on a daily basis they do not go up for adoption right away. Some shelters put new pets up for adoption on a specific day of the week, adding them to the pets already up for adoption. If you have been to the shelter and not found a pet you were interested in, knowing what day this is, and going on that day, will give you a look at the newest pets.

Some shelters are no-kill they keep all the pets as long as they can, but others do not have this luxury and must euthanize some of the pets that have been there “too long”. You can ask when this happens and may want to go 2 or three days prior to this and specifically ask to see the pets that have been there the longest, thus you are assured of “saving a life“.

For some shelters there is one day of the week when all euthanasias are done (so going 2-3 days earlier is possible), but at some of the biggest shelters euthanasias happen every day of the week, weekends too. You may find that going during the week is best as the shelters may be less crowded.

Image via Wikipedia

The Adoption Process

You should get there as early as possible, plan on spending 30 minutes, or more, picking the right pet. If you are selecting a dog, you should ask if you can take it for a walk.

Once you have made up your mind the adoption process can take another 30 minutes or even 24 hours if they want to do a “home check” or check references. You can find out more about this by calling ahead or checking their website.

Note: When looking for a pet it is best to go to the shelter rather than looking on their website. Most animal shelters do not have the time to keep their website up to date with pets for adoption. The Petfinder.com website is fun and interesting to visit, but not all shelters have pets featured on this site.

Some shelters have caged pets for adoption, rabbits, guinea pigs, and birds, others even have farm animals for adoption.

If you have opinions, ideas, or knowledge, and would like to get Paid for sharing them by writing for sites like this, Click Here.

Following on from my previous article relating to the wonderful work that my local animal sanctuary are doing in rescuing abused/abandoned dogs from Romania, I now have good news for all of you out there who love animals.

Last Wednesday, a bitterly cold, miserable day here in Norfolk, I went through my usual initial weekday routine – alarm goes off, drag myself out of bed, go through the usual ablutions, get dressed and head for the kitchen to have breakfast, feed the cats and then feed the wild birds. The ground was solid, the grass was white with the sharp frost and, needless to say, I wasn’t feeling particularly joyous, particularly as I had to work.

I climbed the stairs to my office to check my emails and see if any work had come in overnight and saw that I had an email from Hillside. I instantly thought it was going to be horrible news – that they had some more poor animals that they wished to take in due to torture, abuse or abandonment, but was gladdened by the news that the dogs mentioned in my previous article http://socyberty.com/society/romanian-dog-rescue along with some others were now on their way to a new, more friendly home at the Sanctuary.

The dogs, at the time of the email, were just passing through Austria and Hillside understood that about 10 had been considered strong enough for the very long journey to foreign shores. Among them were Sanni

Brick

and Petronel

These three little refugees were to arrive with a couple of new found buddies;

Lord

and Yura.

Hillside had sent a representative across to Romania the previous week to assess the situation out there and they had reported that, due to the extraordinary sub-zero temperatures currently affecting Eastern Europe, the rescuers who had been working hard to set up temporary shelters to house the dogs, were trying to compete with the ice and snow which had reached the top of the dogs 6 ft pens.

On Friday morning I received another email from Hillside. Apparently 14 dogs had arrived safely at the sanctuary the previous night. I’ve attached some photographs of the dogs, looking a little bemused and wary, as they were “unloaded” and settled down in for the night. Ten of them were to remain at Hillside for the time being but the other four were collected by local foster carers.

Here’s a picture of the dogs as they arrived.

and a picture of a couple of the dogs as they were about to spend their first night on Norfolk soil in safe, warm and cosy beds!

Petronel has now been adopted and the adopters had waited for hours in the icy cold at the sanctuary to collect their little waif and stray and take him to a new safe, stable, non abusive life. Here’s a picture of the now fit and healthy Petronel with his adopter.

A couple of the sanctuary workers are still out in Romania and are hoping to be able to organise another “shipment of refugees” to UK soil in the not too distant future.

I’ve just received a rather distressing email from my local animal sanctuary. Apparently next year the EU are relaxing laws for the importation of dogs into the UK from Romania without undergoing lengthy periods of quarantine.

It appears that Romania have been under the ever watchful eye of Hillside for some considerable time and have seen first hand the sort of abuse these dogs have to endure but, up until now, other than a touch of human kindness and some limited veterinary care they’ve been powerless to get them back to the UK

Wendy Valentine and her team of volunteers are looking to bring in as many of these dogs back as t hey can save but it’s going to cost them about £200 just to get each of them back to the sanctuary without all the vets fees, food and shelter that they’ll need to recover. So basically, she’s looking for people to donate a small sum – it doesn’t matter how small! – or to sponsor an animal. As part of her email to me, Wendy has sent through some photos and a bit of info about a few of the dogs she’s now going to help. Some of the dialogue she’s received from her workers out there are heart breaking.

So if you’re looking for a last minute present for an animal lover, why not consider going to the Hillside Animal Sanctuary website, contacting them and see if you can help – www.hillside,org.uk – every little bit will help to save a dog.

If you really don’t want to see these distressed animals then please don’t look beyond the first picture below! The first story is a relatively happy one.

Sanni was found as a small pup on the streets of Giurgiu. She is still under a year old and is a happy normal pup. It’s thought there must have been some trauma to her eye and she will not regain her sight.

I found Petronel caught in a wire trap which had been set by the villagers. ‘ Caught ‘ is probably an inappropriate word as the trap in addition to choking him to dead had cut deeply into his body. It was a race as to whether he would have choked to death or whether he would be cut in half. I took him home and nursed him but he was having obvious vision problems so yesterday I managed to get a lift and took him to the vet. The verdict was that he had been blinded, caused by a blow to the head. I sat on the clinic steps and wept. Many passed by simply taking a glancing look at me. Through the tears I was a was aware of someone touching my leg. Someone supportive ? Someone understanding ? Compassionate ? When I dried my tears I saw that my comforter was a blind, gentle, abused little creature who through all his misery and pain, reached out to comfort me. The sages of old taught us another way. A way of compassion and love . Have we lost this? Have we lost our way ? Petronel needs YOUR compassion and love to give him the home where he can show his love.

Brick, so called because there is a Romanian expression about being one brick away from death and he certainly was when he was found. Rescued in Giurgiu, Romania, Brick was abandoned after living his whole life on a chain. The collar was embedded in his neck. He was so ill and blind in both eyes. After medical treatment and attention, sight in one of his eyes has been saved.

Animal shelters often are closed for adoptions over the Christmas holidays, but you can help bring Christmas cheer to homeless pets by fostering a pet or two.

Many animal shelters close for adoption the week of Christmas. There are many reasons for this, one being they do not want people adopting a pet on impulse and then returning it a month later when they realize the “Christmas gift” was not such a good idea. Additionally they know that Christmas can be a stressful time and do not want to put a new pet into a frightening situation of hustle and bustle and gift opening and busy get togethers.

Sometimes animal shelters have fewer volunteers over the Christmas holidays, and generally reduce their staff as well, as such the pets in the shelter often get less attention. As such some animal shelters are allowing people to foster pets over the holidays provided the people are having quiet (stress free) celebrations.

Petfinder.com has launched its “Foster a Lonely Pet for the Holidays” program, and encourages people to approach their local animal shelter to see how they can help. Note this is not a way to get a cheap or free pet, and is only a temporary arrangement to help shelters at this time of year.

In order to get involved you must be over 18, own your own home or have landlord permission to keep pets. You must have a fenced yard or dog run if you are considering fostering a dog. You must be willing to keep a cat indoors only if you are fostering a feline. There may also be foster options for fostering small caged pets.

If you have any pets of your own, they must be vaccinated.

You can also discuss fostering pets on a more permanent basis if that is something you would want to consider.

Sometimes your foster role will be to foster an animal that is actually already living in a foster home but in a situation where that foster parent cannot care for it through the holidays.

Please visit the petfinder.com site to learn more, or visit your local animal shelter and ask if foster care opportunities are available to you.

As does the law in most states, Massachusetts law guarantees a blind person the legal right to be accompanied by a guide dog in all public places such as hotels, stores, and restaurants, with the dog muzzled, if required. They may also take their guide dogs with them onboard all forms of public transport such as airplanes, buses, and taxis. But apparently, some businesses are either ignorant of or defiant of this state guarantee.

A seeing eye dog leading a blind man in a mall. (Wikipedia image)

Heather Maloney of Taunton, Massachusetts, is legally blind due to retinitis pigmentosa, a progressive disease of the retina. She and her guide dog were refused entry at an Eyebrow Threading & Henna Tattoo shop because the owner has harbored a fear of dogs since childhood. Maloney is a regular customer at the shop, but when she showed up there one day with her 2-year-old female German Shepherd, the shopkeeper said she would be allowed in only if she left her dog outside.

The shopkeeper says her fear of dogs stems from her having witnessed a relative in her native country undergo painful treatment for rabies after the relative was attacked by a dog.

A policeman who was called to investigate the incident informed the shop owner that she was liable for breaking the laws governing guide dogs and their masters, and that she may face civil action.

Maloney refused to leave her dog outside the shop, and to ease her frustration went to another store, a pastry shop, at Hart’s Four Corners. According to her, the store employees did not seem to mind, but when she paid for her order, the cashier told her to leave her dog outside next time.

The tattoo shop owner, as well as the Dunkin’ Donuts staff, apparently could not see the guide dog in the same light as even the legally blind Maloney could, and so the dog’s trainer, Mary Chapell, filed a complaint with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) in New Bedford against the tattoo shop owner.

Dunkin’ Donuts corporate officials issued a statement that customers with guide dogs are always welcome at all their branches which are independently owned and operated franchises, and that their franchisees are expected to comply with all applicable state and federal laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Chapell, a guide dog trainer for the non-profit Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, had spent two weeks in Taunton with Maloney teaching her to handle her dog. Chapell says that regardless of how businesses feel towards guide dogs, their refusal to allow them on their premises goes directly against state and federal law.

The law is on her side, so Maloney can reasonably expect to find justice in her case. If legal knowledge is lacking, business owners would benefit themselves as well as their customers by studying about the laws that pertain, to avoid similar problems in the future. It is one thing to be legally blind, and it is another to be blind to the legalities.
