As for American popular culture, Elvis was every mother’s nightmare and a danger to society. To parents he was depraved, perverse, obscene, a rebel, a danger to the American teenager and he embodied sexual liberation. He was the original teen dream for many American girls and they went absolutely insane over him. Elvis influenced music by creating a hybrid style between what was considered to be black music and white music. He brought life to rock and roll and a following of other artists that would later impact popular culture and the music industry in the same way (Johnny Cash and John Lennon).

My husband and I recently had a discussion on the influence of past artists and the recent decade’s complete lack of producing any truly great artists. As for popular entertainment figures today that would be comparable to the impact that Elvis had I would have to say there aren’t any. Artists or groups from our recent past post-Elvis I believe would be The Beatles due to the worldwide following they had and The Cure for pioneering the goth rock music genre (a.k.a. British alternative rock). I think the artist that could most closely compare to Elvis’s stature in the 50s would be Kurt Cobain from the 90s band Nirvana. Kurt redirected the sounds of rock and brought Seattle Grunge to mainstream as well as became the voice of the troubled youth of America. Cobain took strides towards social change by expressing his opinions of favor for feminism and opposition for homophobia.

Elvis Preston King claims to be the most important artist of seduction in the world. Seduce one until three girls new day. There are no pros and no companions. He is looking for the perfect wife. The problem is that as been looking for 40 years. When cornered playboy admits he is in the world.

Mystery quickly gathered his friends and published reasons why Elvis is a fake. Well, I’ve met Elvis. I’ve seen it in action and have pictures of every last girlfriend.

The mystery has chosen to defame fearing Elvis head to head competition. I think Elvis has cornered. Mystery has to shut up or meet Elvis in the field of PUA on the floor just to independent judges. No friends who are trying to defame Elvis in a forum. You can find more information on any of gentleman, doing a simple Google search. I really hope that the mystery has the b … s to meet Elvis. I have really wanted to see the competition floor. I really do not think that mystery is presented at the competition. Elvis is alone and only has a lot of girls who like mystery has plenty of friends who are trying to cover ass Mystery. But this competition is not about who has more friends or whoever they can discuss in a forum. This contest is about who really is the world’s largest PUA. Yes, Elvis is back, but I put my attitude is that the best man win. I’m not going to sit here and say what a great man is Elvis. I have friends. The girls are old articles, fat, bald Bob was not until I met Elvis.

So far it appears that there are only two people who claim the title of world’s biggest playboy, the world’s major or pick up artist. Elvis Preston King and mystery. With all the big egos in the world would think others would lend some bolts to make a challenge for the throne of King of the best PUA in the world’s main challenge Playoff Playboy.

To celebrate Elvis Week in a big way, it’s time to get to work – this year, the official Elvis Week runs from August 10 to August 16. In fact, once you rent a projector, you may not need to find Elvis movies for rent – search online to see what television and cable stations will be held the week of Elvis with you, and connect to their excellent resources. But it’s time to get busy – start inviting your friends and make plans, otherwise it is not nuthin but a hound dog (sorry, could not resist!)

I painted this because I knew that Christian iconography was pretty much obsolete.  When I posted this on an art site I had a comment saying “Who is the guy in the middle.  I know all the others.”  Christians would ask “Do you know Jesus?”  I painted this because I know that people idolise singers, movie stars and athletes.  I painted it because I wanted to portray those who I thought were the top people who were iconised.  I painted them in a style suitable to their era in art.  I hope I did them justice, but Jesus in the middle… who thinks about Him now?  I thought long and hard about who I should include in the painting and at the end of the day… Elvis is still “the king,”  Marilyn Monroe is still beautiful, Ali is still “the greatest” and although I am not into reggae Bob Marley still has fans.

Somewhere along the way, we’ve seemed to lose sight of the past – it’s either been forgotten or denied…who we look up to mimics the type of person we hope to become. Maybe we should make those choices with a little more wisdom – get back to the basics of humanity…when the right thing was the most important thing.

TOP 10 ROLE MODELS OF THE CURRENT DAY

1. Lady Gaga – While she’s wild and off the wall…talented and rich…does she deserve this Number 1 spot? I would have to say YES. This is a woman who knows who she is and tries to better the world through her music and numerous charities…wear that crown, Lady Gaga…and be proud!

2. Tiger Woods – Being an outstanding athlete with an interesting background that got him there…I would have to say NO he doesn’t belong in the top ten. Maybe that thought would change if he could be admired for only his golf career…that’s no longer a possibility given his love for any lady who’s not his wife!

3. Armed Forces Soldiers – To any individual selfless enough to give of him/herself for the protection of others…the ability and dedication to defending the rights of this land…they deserve a solid YES for being mentioned here. Whether or not you support the war – you must be supportive of those brave men and women…for all that we shall become in the future because of their service today!

4. Abraham Lincoln – A name that echoes in our minds at the mere thought of fairness…his legacy has lasted longer than I’m sure he ever dreamed…being the president was “not his job, but a responsibility”. That statement alone makes him a YES for deserving this status…that along with how he cared about those who weren’t deemed equal at the time!

5. Charlie Sheen – How this name even made it here is beyond me…I’d have to say NO he doesn’t belong anywhere near this list…but, here he is. We shouldn’t be looking up to a man who prides himself on drug usage and pornographic escapades…making himself richer based off the sins of society. He’s rapidly accelerating the decay of human morals every time he opens his mouth!

6. Motley Crue – From one generation to the next…this group of men still reign supreme on many levels…they speak to us in a way that not many musicians can. That earns them a huge YES for being included here. Through all the ups and downs – including drug addiction…they rose back to the top where they rightfully belong!

7. Frank Lucas – A man who was the “Al Capone” of the 70’s…he stood up for what he believed in whether it was right or wrong. Does this earn him a spot here…I’d say YES it does! In this day and age, we need to look up to someone willing to go to extremes for their own beliefs and values.

8. Nelson Mandella – For someone to sit in jail for upholding his own personal opinions…this earns him the rank of being a role model. Look at the man’s life and determination, then you’ll see that his nomination to this list earns a solid YES vote from many!

9. Lindsay Lohan – How this woman even made it on here is beyond me…her grasp on reality is so far gone. Some people think their fame earns them “higher than God” status – and she’s one of them. Unfortunately, she is still looked up to and it’s hard to say why. Should she be on this list…that’s a big, fat NO…but, thanks to this generation – here she is!

10. Batman – The myth that we fight to turn into fact…someone willing to stand up in the face of evil to defend humanity on every level. It’s sad that we have to look towards fiction in our efforts to find a suitable role model…and I’d have to say there’s none better than Batman himself…does he deserve this recognition – YES…does he live up to his persona…YES!

This current day list of role models was aquired via my children and some of my Facebook friends…their ideas mixed with my personal opinion of those ideas. It was a pleasant surprise to me how open everyone seemed to be regarding this topic…and the portrayal of it shows that even though times have changed, there are some who still look up to those who are worthy. This leads me to believe that society’s downfall is related a lot more to environmental reasons than who we look up to – blame it on government, religion or family issues. It doesn’t really matter what the reason…all I do know is this – the time has come to improve who we are. Respect, values and morals have washed away…replaced with evil, greed and prejudice. As I make this plunge into the next section of this editorial, maybe I’ll notice that what I deemed as different…in all reality, is somewhat the same. The fact remains that we are only who we choose to be…regardless of the world around us.

TOP 10 ROLE MODELS OF MY GENERATION

1. Elvis – The legend himself who gave new meaning to Rock…while incorporating the Blues. With each lyric, he drew us into his message. This earns him a YES for the Number 1 spot on this list. When following the life of a rock star – remember his life and not his downfall…he was surely one that deserved our admiration!

2. Marilyn Monroe – She is an icon that remains on top in more generations than just my own. She had it all…fame, beauty and riches – none of which defined who she was. She’s the woman so many of us had dreamt to be…she fought to be recognized for who she was instead of what she had. To her, material possessions were just that…they weren’t there to determine her self-worth. This earns her a huge YES to being included in this list. May we sing her praises forever!

3. John F. Kennedy – A man who defied the odds and succeeded in winning the presidency of this great country. It took great courage and faith for him to reach his dreams…although short-lived, he left this world a hero. We won’t get into the corruption behind those against him…all that matters are the accomplishments left behind. While some may say he doesn’t deserve this nomination – I say YES he does. America was a better place back then! 

4. OJ Simpson – The name that draws many different thoughts…football, hall of fame, murder. He shocked the world with his amazing talents on the field – he was someone to respect. His sincerity within the community…his efforts to better life for struggling juveniles…his downward spiral into a life of crime. How someone can make such a drastic life change in that way still catches me off-guard. While given his career and moral make-up “back in the day”…what he allegedly did can’t be overlooked. With that being said – NO he absolutely does not belong on this list…he lost that right!

5. Charlton Heston – Defending our own constitutional rights seemed a lot easier with him standing alongside us…the NRA was lucky to have him provide a voice for their organization. From the big screen to the political scene – he understood the importance of what it meant to be free…in a country that was stripping us of our freedoms. My father admired him…I admired him…as did my children. This YES goes out to you, Mr. Heston…thank you for all you’ve ever done!

6. Jimmi Hendrix – Most people view him as nothing short of a drug addict musician…without understanding that he used both of those as a way to cope with real life. Dealing with racism and hatred, he found his mental release through the strings…through the psychodelic drugs. While I don’t condone drug use to that extent…it’s important to take into consideration the “times” in which he lived…and died. This earns him a YES for being included here…and another YES for the music he shared with the world!

7. Our Parents – When family was the core of life…of security and happiness. This is where we found comfort and learned values. Even during the bad times, it’s that family unit which kept us moving forward into a life that we deserved. People genuinely cared about people…and we protected each other. The biggest YES nomination goes out to those parents who were around for their children – teaching them right from wrong…simply because it was the right thing to do.

8. Martin Luther King, Jr. – A man with “a dream” who wasn’t afraid to share his viewpoints with a nation who wasn’t able to accept the truth. If he would have lived long enough…he would have been proud…his “dream” became a reality. It was an uphill battle in the political and public arena of life – and it’s far from over. Grasping the mission of such a great man is what shall move this country ahead…YES he does deserve to be included here…may he never be forgotten!

9. Madonna – With an amazing voice and beauty that would stop any man dead in his tracks…she went from sending a positive message to a negative one. Her views on life seemed to change over her long-lived career…this is what screams NO on her inclusion into this list. At one moment in time, the “Material Girl” deserved it…until the perversion instilled within our youth took over!

10. God – Whether you view Him as fact or fiction…a myth or reality…faith in God is what has gotten most of us through the hardest of times. Having a belief system is what keeps the world going…it’s the hope that there’s something greater awaiting us after this Hell on earth. Many people will chuckle because I saved Him for last…without thinking about why I chose to do that. With society lacking in any type of religious belief – if they would have saw God at the top of the list…they would have stopped reading. People may say they believe…but, they don’t show it in their daily life…it’s sad. God earns the highest YES rating for a role model of my generation!

While none of this is scientifically proven or fact based…it still shows some amount of reality. I’ve just been doing a lot of thinking on the way life has become – compared to what it was when I was growing up. While noticing a lot of differences between the lists…there are a lot of similarities. Throughout life – no matter our age group, we are drawn into the world of music and politics. Maybe it’s because that’s what’s expected…maybe it’s because that’s our only choice. Any way we choose to look at it – we all deserve someone to look up to…whether they deserve our admiration or not. I hope you enjoyed my little viewpoint here…and if you have any ideas on more comparison pieces…I’ll provide the voice for them too! 

In ending, I’d like to just say one last thing – instead of finding role models in the outside world…maybe we should all try becoming role models to others…in an attempt to make the world a better place!

However, when you consider that there seems to be an Elvis impersonator around every corner, and not only in Las Vegas, you may be inclined to believe that he is the most popular one. It seems that the death of a star, however, will cause the number of impersonators to rise. Since Michael Jackson’s death, there have been numerous incidents of impersonators starting their own tribute shows to him, just as they do to Elvis.

Movie or music stars aren’t the only ones who have impersonators, though. The sketch comedy “Saturday Night Live” has long been known for its presidential impersonators, some of whom are dead-on in their mimicry, right down to the appearance and speech inflections.

SNL doesn’t wait for a president to die before starting the impersonation, either. There is already an Obama impersonator on the long-running show (including a Mrs. Obama), and past presidents George W. and George H. W. Bush, as well as Bill Clinton, along with others, have been “honored.”
It may be, though, that Elvis is so popular because it allows the impersonator to choose from

among several personifications, and the Elvis costume needed for the personification is usually fairly simple. Tight blue jeans and a t-shirt or collared dress shirt work well for someone impersonating the young Elvis, both as a singer and a movie star. If you are impersonating him in his famous “Jailhouse Rock” movie, the t-shirt needs to be striped.

For the Vegas Elvis as well as the older Elvis, the Elvis costume is still fairly simple. A white rhinestone jumpsuit, complete with the flowing white cape with its rhinestone eagle and plenty of colored scarves is all that is needed. You don’t even have to have a jumpsuit.

A white pair of bell-bottom pants (not too wide), covered at the waist by a wide white belt with rhinestones, and a white shirt with a high collar, with rhinestones adorning the front, can be substituted. A bright red scarf is tucked in at the front of the shirt, which is left almost completely unbuttoned.

True Elvis impersonators grow their hair into the style of the Elvis personification they have chosen. If you choose the early Elvis, it’s easy to maintain this style, as it is fairly short, and making it part of the Elvis costume simply means using lots of hair oil or hair wax and combing it into the “ducktail” style. 

Meanwhile, the Vegas and older Elvis personifications call for rather longish hair with “muttonchops” sideburns. Again, true Elvis impersonators grow their hair into this fashion, and it’s easy to pick a true Elvis impersonator out in a crowd because of this.

Many of the people who have chosen this particular personification remain “in character” even when they are not wearing the famous rhinestone jumpsuit. Whether it’s for the simplicity, persistence, or tradition, however, it’s almost a sure thing that Elvis has more impersonators than anyone else.

I was in junior high school when Elvis died. I remember the discussion on the playground about whether or not he killed himself. My friend Lorraine insisted that it was by accident that he took too much of his prescribed medication. Now people discuss whether or not he is actually dead.

I was at church on a Sunday morning when I heard that Princess Diana died. My friend Robin told me the news. I thought she must have heard the news wrong, I had heard on the news that she was in an accident, and her boyfriend died, but that Princess Di was taken to hospital. Robin told me that she died in the hospital. I thought it was ironic that I had just seen a documentary on TV about how the paparazzi were hounding her.

9/11 was on a Tuesday morning. I had just dropped the kids off at school, so I heard the news on the car radio. The morning crew was just discussing how an airplane had hit the World Trade Tower. It sounded like an accident, until the news came that the second tower was hit by another airplane. I spent most of the day glued to the TV, watching the same news footage over and over.

I was at a picnic for my daughter’s school class when one of the moms got a Twitter message that Michael Jackson had died. That was quite a shocker. He was only 51, and most of his face was even younger than that.

Most recently, I was watching the live coverage of the revolution in Tahrir Square in Egypt when it was announced that President Hosni Mubarak had stepped down.  I’m not sure why, but I was glued to the TV for the whole revolution. When the fighting started, I was struck by the irony that one of the oldest civilizations in the world was fighting with sticks and stones.

                  Elvis Presley is a national icon that, even though he has been completing his journey in spirit form since 1977, continues to capture the hearts of even our youngest generation. He was Born January 8, 1935 and was welcomed into exsistance missing a half of his soul. He had a stillborn twin named Jesse. His singing career began in1954 where his wrap sheet includes 33 successful films, many starring Anne Margret. These movies always had him starring as himself, a captivating, charismatic heartbreaker.  He was nominated for 14 Grammys, and was the recipient of three. Elvis recieved the Lifetime Acheivment Award by the age of 36 and was humble enough to even serve his patriotic duty in the U.S. Army. He passed on August 16, 1977.

                  I am highly amazed at the depth of his quote above. When we think of famous people, I am not convinced we think of them as real people who have thoughts and intelligence. What I know about Elvis is that he was a capricorn. Capricornus is a constellation, a goat with the tail of a fish( a seagoat).  Capricorn is an Earth sign with the the traits of passionate and bright, devoted to making money and gaining the comfort it can bring, distrustful and cynical, and magnetic with a powerful presence that is potently seductive. Elvis was all of these traits and more, and he left his mark on humanity in a very compassionate way. The quote He shared with the world was his way of humbling himself to his own success. So………… Happy Birthday to the King of Rock ‘n’ roll! His music makes even the most rigid of characters tap their feet with his beat.

“Ambition is a dream with a v-8 engine.”

Said like a true all American man, Elvis Presley!
