Gaga has been dutifully promoting the book, The Drunk Diet: How I Lost 40 Pounds… Drunk. A Memoir By Luc Carl, while promoting her own international smash, “Born This Way.”

“I am on the drunk diet,” Gaga chuckled during a promo appearance on Sirius XM Radio last month, claiming she owes her trim body to her boyfriend’s unorthodox regime of drinking to excess every night.

The manual will be “a real shot of hope for all those sad, pudgy little rock stars out there looking to change their lives,” according to St. Martins Press, who will publish the book later this year. Once 40 pounds overweight thanks to his “Whiskey and 5 AM Cheeseburgers” Lifestyle, the manager of Lower East Side rock bar St. Jerome now sports a lanky frame with arms like a bodybuilder. He promises to share the secret to his weight-loss success in the “greatest fucking diet book of all time.”

Friends say Gaga — who was dumped by Luc when the pair courted during her prefame years — suspects that she’s being taken for a ride, she just doesn’t have the confidence to do anything about it. Apparently Luc often brags to friends that he’s got millions of dollars worth of graphic sex tapes starring himself and the famed singer.

“Because of her very low self-esteem, Gaga believes Luc is the best she’ll ever get. Deep down, she feels that Luc is only back with her because of her fame and wealth – he didn’t want her before she became famous,” another friend piqued in. “Luc is borderline verbally abusive to Gaga. He has jokingly threatened that she best not cross him because he could smear her name.”
