Exploring consensual reality in American society.

As the title suggests, today is not Father’s Day. But that’s really okay, because in my corner of the world, the day each year that is proclaimed Father’s Day (along with several other alleged holidays) is nothing more than a ruse, a sham, conceived and perpetrated upon the American people back during the Great Depression. To pick one day to celebrate in one particular month doesn’t have anything to do with honoring our fathers; it has to do with stimulating the economy during a month that has no other days of significance, where people can be convinced to buy gifts.

I don’t have my father anymore; he passed away in 1984, of cancer. It attacked him quickly, turning him from a vigorous 70 year-old to a pale shadow of himself in less than two years, and perhaps in the end that was merciful. He spent the last few months of his life in pain, but never allowed that pain to affect his demeanor, never letting himself become bitter or discouraged. When the doctor’s told him that he could be treated for a time, but was ultimately terminal regardless, he decided to save the family from financial ruin by accepting his mortality, and deciding to die with dignity, and honor intact.

My father taught me well how to be a man; both by his life and his death he showed me the way to walk through life with honor. The example he set for me sustains me even today; when making a tough decision, I still imagine him looking over my shoulder & telling me to make the decision that allows everyone involved to keep their self-respect and meet their own needs, by telling the truth tempered with compassion, and having the couraqe to take the responsibility for my actions.

In today’s world, surviving with one’s sanity intact is a perpetual challenge. Human society has, for some time now, begun to suffer the effects of overpopulation. Everyone alive today knows what happens when overcrowded living conditions reach a critical point; we all performed, or at least read or heard about, the experiment with a rodent population allowed to reach that point. Increasing violence and abberrant behavior, breakdown of societal norms, food, water, & shelter become items of primary import. Ultimately, the colony dies, and being human does not shelter us as a species from the simple, deadly fact of this aspect of living in an increasingly unbalanced ecosphere.

One of the symptoms of impending disaster, the “breakdown of societal norms”, is the unfortunate evolution of the norm for a “family” in today’s world. The two-parent household is no longer the majority in today’s society; one parent households are just a common. And this simple fact means that, of the children growing up today, less than half will have an effective male, or female, role model in the home. Many children will not have either a mother or father figure available, or will have that role filled by grandparents or extended family, or by people outside the home such as teachers.

This phenomenon is not necessarily all bad; in my experience, even folks who aren’t terribly good at parenting are at least doing their best. But it does mean that society in the future will be different, very different, and can only contribute to the general overall confusion in society. Humanity has a very challenging era rushing upon it, and significant changes will need to be made, and survived.

My father, whom I honor every day, was part of what may be the last generation ever to have the majority of families with a traditional make-up. I hope the model that society evolves in coming years will create in children the same feelings of self-worth, confidence, and compassion for others that my father, and mother, were able to teach to me. If it is, then I believe there is hope for humanity. If not, then the time of critical danger is apporoaching all too fast……

Let's look at the seven categories into which father can fall so that you can get a better idea of where your father fits.

1. The Controlling Father: Extremely authoritarian father. an offensive controller and someone who manipulates his environment to make others do what he wants them to do. A controlling father reasons like this: (1). It’s my way or no way. (2). I’m the final authority here, and I have the final word. (3). My opinion is informed and accurate- I’ll talk, you listen. A controlling father typically controls everything he touches, including you. It is true that it is healthy, desirable, and biblical for a child to be raised under the father’s authority. But that use of biblical mandated authority to train the child is different from an excessive need to run the child’s life. A controlling father abuses his God-given authority.

If you were raised by a controller, you were set up for unique problems. In order to maintain some control over your life you may have become counter-controller and rebel. Or you may have elected to maintain control by manipulating others or being overly assertive.

Father’s Day for Christian fathers is a special time. Not only are they celebrating the fact that they are blessed to be fathers, but also are giving thanks for having their Father, the Lord. Getting a gift for Father’s Day for Christian fathers is as simple as going to your local religious store, located in many malls and churches. Some great gifts you can share on Father’s Day for Christian fathers are:

The poem “Footprints” by Mary Stevenson (or Anonymous) — This is a very well-known religious poem that has been placed on items of every shape and size. From throw rugs to framed art, to plaques and picture frames, to bookends and pillows, “Footprints” is a story that can be appreciated by Christian fathers everywhere. Make the item really special by making it yourself. – The poem “Footprints” can be found in many books and online. Create a border collage of pictures around the text and add a nice frame. – Make a plaster footprint and write the poem around it. – If you do cross-stitching, rubber stamping or calligraphy, why not make “Footprints” into your own unique piece of artwork.

Bibles of every kind — This is a gift that will keep on giving, as Christian dads can find comfort within the pages of this uplifting book. For Father’s Day, you can find a bible with a leather cover, or personalize it with a special message created just for dad.
Crucifix Statues and Jewelry — These pieces of artwork will be appreciated everyday, around the house or at the office. Jewelry can be found in platinum, gold or silver, while statues can be found in bronze, gold, silver, glass and porcelain.

Religious T-Shirts — For everyday wear, these gifts are great for those fathers who like to announce to the world their love of God. With cross designs, religious figure designs and bible quotes, religious t-shirts are great on Father’s Day for Christian fathers.

The kinds of Father’s Day gifts you can give to Christian men are limited only by your imagination. If the gift comes from the heart, it will be cherished and appreciated for years.

It's time to celebrate and acknowledge with love our dads. Even though like many, you think Father's Day is a modern invention, it's roots go back 4,000 years to Babylon.

The date of celebration for Father’s Day is not the same everywhere. In some Catholic influenced countries Father’s Day is traditionally celebrated on 19th March, St Joseph’s Day (Joseph the spouse of the blessed virgin Mary). While in recent times, a secular celebration to reflect the diversity of people in a country has become a popular date of celebration too. Some lucky dad’s get to celebrate Father’s Day twice every year, while some other families choose one date and ignore the other.

The customs and traditions in some countries may be very different than the ones you know. For example, in the USA a tradition is for a red rose to be worn for fathers who are still living and a white rose to be worn to honour fathers who have died.

If your father has passed on, like mine, Father’s Day is an occasion to remember and honour their loving memory, gifts and lessons learned from them. This year I will remember and honour my father’s strong work ethic. He was a hard-working man, away for long hours so he could take care of his family. A legacy of many fathers of my dad’s era. A legacy that cultivated in me the seeds of perseverance, a never give up attitude. A life lesson and a gift I am truly grateful for. Thank you dad. So remember your dad graciously, many who are often in the background with a steady love that is too often taken for granted.

For thousands of years Father’s Day offered a chance to connect and say thanks. A day for dad’s and for the men who step in when fathers were not available, to stand in the spotlight. A day for these nurturing men to be acknowledged with appreciation and love.

Like Elmesu from Babylon find ways to express your thanks, appreciation and love in a more personal way. Write a poem, a verse, make a home-made gift or card with special wishes and appreciations. Dads really appreciate acknowledgment. And of course doing something like making dad breakfast in bed or performing a few chores so he can take it easy and have a rest is always a wonderful way on Father’s Day to show your love and appreciation for your dad.

While you may think Father’s Day is a modern invention, a young boy named Elmesu carved the first Father’s Day card from clay nearly 4,000 years ago. It was found in the ruins of Babylon. His special message wished his Babylonian father good health and a long life. A gift from the heart, a treasured gift for any father even today.

It’s great that all around the world we have a special day that acknowledges and honours the most important male figure in our life (for most people) our dad’s. From the day we are born, research tells us that our fathers play an important and powerful role in our development, psychological well-being and health.

Father's Day.

Father – a person, so kind and respectable in every way, he can not be a superhero who leaps from buildings to save humanity, but he is the one to beat us out of Mom’s or, if we store feeling very insecure. We need to value and show our love for him every day. Father’s Day is celebrated all over the world to honor this special man.

My father is my hero, my role model. When I was a just a little baby, I do not know how to do my first step. My father was the first person there to teach me how to move my feet. How should I steep my first. And the amazing thing is, I was not afraid because I know that if I fall on my father to me he never catch me falling down.

Father’s Day is on a variety of dates worldwide and typically involves celebrate giving, special dinners to fathers and family-oriented activities. The first observance of Father’s Day actually took place in Fairmont, West Virginia 5 July 1908. It was from Mrs. Grace Golden Clayton, the life of the 210 fathers who had in the Monongah mining disaster a few months earlier on in Monongah, West Virginia, 6th Wanted to celebrate in December 1907 lost organized. It is possible that Clayton was influenced by the first celebration of Mother’s Day that year, only a few miles removed.

Clayton chose on Sunday closest to the birthday of her recently deceased father. Unfortunately, the days of other events in the city was overshadowed West Virginia has not officially register the holidays, and it was not celebrated again. Instead, credit was for Father’s Day to Sonora Dodd of Spokane, who independently invented their own celebration of Father’s Day just two years later, influenced by Jarvis’ mother’s day. Clayton celebration was forgotten until 1972, when one of the supervisors saw Nixon’s proclamation Father’s Day celebration, and it worked to recover his legacy.

The celebration will now each year in the Central United Methodist Church, as Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was demolished down 1922nd Fairmont is now being promoted as the “Home of the First Father’s Day Service.”

A draft law on national recognition of the holiday was introduced in Congress in accordance 1913.In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson went to Spokane to speak in a Father’s Day and wanted to celebrate it officially, but Congress resisted, fearing that it is commercialized. U.S. President Calvin Coolidge in 1924 recommended that the Day be observed by the nation, but not so far as to issue a national proclamation. Two previous attempts to formally recognize the holiday was rejected by Congress.

In 1957, Maine Senator Margaret Chase Smith wrote a proposal to Congress accusing fathers ignored for 40 years, while honoring mothers, so that “[separation] from only one parent.” In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson, the first presidential election proclamation honoring fathers issued, the determination of the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. Six years later, was the day, made a permanent national holiday when President Richard Nixon signed the law in 1972.

Common Crafts For Kids To Make For Fathers Day.

Really young children just don’t understand the concept of giving on particular holidays. Buying dad a tie or a coffee mug just doesn’t mean much to them. Young kids love to make things, though, so here are some common crafts that kids make for Father’s Day that you could try.

Dough Handprints – Using ordinary flour dough, which you can make at home your child can press their hand print into the soft substance. Put a name and a year on it, and then bake for several hours. Now you have a great gift for dad for Father’s Day that symbolized that particular year in his child’s life.

Print and Color Cards – Definitely the easiest craft for kids to make is a card. You can just use construction paper folded in half to create your card, or you can print out pictures from your computer, glue them onto the card and color. A nice Father’s Day gift that kids can be proud of.

Picture Frames – Using picture frames from discount or dollar stores, kids can use various paints and glitter glue to make it unique and special. Messages like “Happy Father’s Day” or “#1 Dad” will always make the frame a treasured gift.

Hand-print T-Shirts – Using a plain t-shirt, all the kids in the family pick a color of fabric paint and put their hand-print on the shirt. Mom or older siblings can write special Father’s Day messages on the shirt, as well as put the kids’ names under the prints.

Colorful Coupons – What could dad need more than an hour of quiet? What would he enjoy more than breakfast in bed? What would he like more than a clean car? Well, he can get all that and more with homemade Father’s Day coupons! You can print them off your computer and have the young children color them. Just remember – don’t make a coupon that the kids couldn’t actually do!

Original Neckties – Why go buy dad a tie with a silly design on it? Just let your kids make one for him! With puffy fabric paints, kids can have a ball making dad his new neckwear.

Crafts for dad are easily found in books and on the internet. If you’d like to find crafts that kids make for Father’s Day, those are good places to start looking.
