Being a mother is the greatest experience on Earth in the life of any woman and it is also the hardest job you will ever love. Motherhood is a blessing immeasurable.

THE BLESSING OF MOTHERHOOD and Mother’s Day Thoughts

There is no way to even come close to explaining the wonder, the amazement, the awe that fills you the moment you hold your newborn child in your arms for the first time. Being a mother doesn’t mean you have to have physically given birth to a child. There are some amazing, wonderful and loving mothers out there who adopted their children; children other women were unable to love and care for, whatever the reason may be. Speaking of adoption, adoption and being an adopted child was explained to me perfectly and in words only a child would express by one little boy, my grandson, who is adopted. He explained it this way, “Omma, I’m very special I think. I’m adopted. My Mom and Dad really love me a whole bunch because I grew in their heart. Most kids grow in their mommy’s tummy.” I think this is a pretty profound explanation for a six year old.

Being a mother is a profound experience. There is no way to truly explain the pride and excitement you feel when your child utters his or her first words, takes his or her first steps or the deep love you feel when that same child hands you a bouquet of sunshine yellow dandelions that were picked from your yard as he or she hugs you around the legs and says “I love you,” his or her eyes shining and a big grin on their face because they brought you the most wonderful gift of love; and it is. In that moment those dandelions, those pesky weeds, are worth a thousand times more than a dozen, dozen long stemmed red roses purchased at the local florist.

Being a mother is also a huge challenge from the moment your child is conceived to the day of their birth, getting them through school, finally grown up and out there on their own and even then it doesn’t end. It is a 24/7/365 job often with long days and nights of caring for, worrying and praying for a sick child or a child who is struggling to succeed or going through all those inevitable growing pains. Mothers are traditionally the peace keepers, the patient and listening ear, the shoulder to cry on when things aren’t going right, the healer of skinned knees and winter time sniffles and the one who is always there when you need them.

Being a mother is a teaching and learning experience for both mother and child and it doesn’t end when they walk off the stage carrying their high school or college diploma. They still need you. They need your love and understanding, your empathy and compassion as they face their own trials in life and they come back again and again seeking your words of wisdom because you are the wisest woman on Earth in their eyes. It is a great honor and privilege and very special blessing to be granted the gift of motherhood.

The Bible, God’s Holy word, teaches us that we are to honor our mother and father. That means that we respect and obey them; treat them with love and kindness. Someone a long time ago to these words to heart and decided it would be really a nice gesture to set aside a special day to especially honor our mother though we should and most do every day. A special day was established for just this purpose and in America it falls on the second Sunday of May. We do the same for fathers a month later in June.

The whole idea of having this special day began back in the 16th century in England where they established a special celebration day called “Mothering Sunday.” It was a special day set aside to give special honor to your mother and a way of saying thank you for all the love, the care, the work, the tears, the laughter, the sadness and joy that comes with the title “Mother.”

Mothering Sunday was a sort of “family reunion” day in which all the children would come home to share the day with their mom. On this day the sons and daughters would assume all the household chores that Mom always did. A special dinner would be prepared in her honor and the oldest child brought what was then known as “the mothering cake,” and it would be sliced and shared by the whole family after they all returned from a special church service that they all attended together with Mother.

The colonist brought this tradition with them when they came to America but it kind of fizzled out for awhile as they went through the struggles of establishing a new nation. The women were just as involved as the men and there was little time set aside for frivolity and special celebration though some may have continued the tradition in a simpler fashion.

I wasn’t able to find much information on Mother’s Day or Mothering Sunday in early America in my research. However, in 1872 a woman by the name of Julia Ward Howe, (you may recognize the name of this famous author and know her as a woman’s rights advocate and leader and abolitionist;) proposed that a special day, June 2nd, be set aside as a day to honor our mother in the name of world peace. The proposal was pretty much ignored by the new congress and even church leaders and it died a quick death buried somewhere in the bottom of the heap of proposals facing our congress as America struggled to keep a united nation and heal the scars of war.

It wasn’t until 1907 that the idea of establishing a special day to honor all mothers again came to the fore. It was then that Anna Jarvis took up the cause and began campaigning for a special day to honor mothers. Her mother had died in 1905 and she wanted a special day established to memorialize motherhood and the undying love of a mother toward her children, a day to honor and remember all the love given and sacrifices made by the mother who gave you life and raised you.

Another year passed before much recognition of the idea took hold and then on May 10th, 1908, a special Mother’s Day service was held in a church in Grafton, West Virginia. It was held in the church where Anna Jarvis’ mother had taught Sunday School and the family had been a member of that church. It was on that day that the idea was reborn that a special day be set aside to honor all mothers, both the living and those who have died and Anna Jarvis became known as the “Mother of Mother’s Day” here in America.

Anna Jarvis began promoting her idea of establishing a national holiday for this purpose, not just in a small church in a small town in West Virginia. She met with civic organizations and presented her ideas to public officials and church leaders, to anyone who would listen and she wrote, published and distributed booklets that promoted her idea of establishing such a holiday and that it should be celebrated nationwide. After all, if it wasn’t for mother and her love and sacrifices where would we be as a family, a community, a nation? She had a point, a good point.

Anna Jarvis’ efforts finally caught the attention of the mayor of Philadelphia who proclaimed it a good idea and proclaimed a special day be set aside for honoring our mother establishing a local Mother’s Day. Anna Jarvis didn’t stop here. She carried her plan to Washington D.C. Here politicians were quick to give it verbal support and States began to individually proclaim a special day for mothers. West Virginia, where it all first began was the first State to proclaim Mother’s Day as an official holiday and other States soon followed.

Soon after the first State proclamations the Representatives of Alabama and Texas wrote up a joint resolutions to establish a national day to honor mother and presented the resolution for Mother’s Day to be observed and celebrated throughout the nation. It quickly passed in both houses of Congress and in 1914 President Woodrow Wilson signed a bill into law establishing the second Sunday of May as a legal holiday, Mother’s Day.

So, Happy Mother’s Day and thank you for being the best mom on Earth, my mom. You are so very loved and appreciated. Thank you for loving me and for all the sacrifices you made for my sake. No words can ever fully describe the wonder of the relationship between a mother and child. Happy Mother’s Day. May you always be abundantly blessed.

Getting away from the modern world for a bit can be great for your love life. Try switching off the TV and the computers!

We all get a bit lazy when it comes to romance, especially after being with someone for a long time. When you first met your partner you probably gave (or received) flowers on a regular basis, but how about now? Do you just spend your time sitting around watching television and not communicating or doing anything fun? Here we discuss a few ideas for how to improve your relationship by removing unromantic habits. The more you practice being romantic, the more romantic you will be. Here are a few ideas for how to explore your romantic side.

Turn Off the TV
It may seem like something of a background noise in your home. Do you always have the television on? If so, it can really destroy any romantic mood that you may have had. Sure, you can certainly spend some time watching – try watching some romantic movies together, perhaps – but generally television is a big turn-off.

Giving Your Heart
You probably think, because you love someone, that you have already given your heart. Maybe you even have flowers delivered every so often to prove your affections. But are you really opening yourself up to your partner completely? Do you express your feelings to your partner? Try writing a romantic letter, including as much detail as possible. Improving communication is essential for a long-lasting relationship.
Walking Hand in Hand
When was the last time you walked hand in hand with your significant other? This is a traditional but beautiful romantic thing to do with your wife, girlfriend, husband or boyfriend. Make the time to spend together and show your affection for one another.
So where are some wonderful romantic locations to go for a walk with your partner?

Head to a national park or somewhere else in a leafy location.

Find some historic buildings to walk around and explore.

Go to an art gallery to discover beautiful romantic paintings.

Spend a day at the zoo.

Walk along the beach.

But remember that where you walk does not matter as much as the time you spend together.

Surprise!
Surprising your partner for no reason at all is an amazingly romantic gesture that will be sure to impress. You don’t have to plan a surprise party or anything like that, just sneak them their favourite chocolates, make them breakfast in bed or simply give them a kiss when they least expect.
Making the effort to be more romantic is worth it and you will start to see some wonderful changes to your love life.

While your partner may already be impressed with you, you might want to surprise them with some romantic gestures.

We all want to impress our partners. Sometimes buying flowers isn’t enough, and you want to go one step further. You can go about impressing your girlfriend, boyfriend, wife or husband, or someone you admire, in a number of ways. How to impress your partner will depend on how long you have been together, as well as how serious you are about each other. In many cases, you will not have to impress your partner but you will simply want to. This can really reignite your love life and build a stronger relationship.

Impressing Your Partner the Traditional Way
There are many traditional ways to impress your significant other. Just because they aren’t new, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use them. Simple trips to the florist can really help show your affections and impress someone with your romanticism. It is also a good idea to take care of your health to impress someone. This would include regular exercise and good personal grooming. While love should be based on someone’s personality, we all naturally consider someone’s looks as well. Something simple like dressing up a little for your partner may really impress them.

Improving Yourself to Impress
You can also look at improving yourself in order to make someone like you more. It is important to be a well-rounded person, and to be comfortable with yourself. It is no good to improve yourself solely to impress someone else – you need to be happy with yourself.
Here are some great ways to try and improve yourself for your partner, your career and your life in general:

Join a community course, such as arts and crafts or writing.

Start a University degree or expand on your University education.

Start your own business in something you’ve always wanted.

Find a new and better job.

Find a new hobby or pick up an old hobby again.

To impress someone else, self-confidence is the key. Strive for the things you want from your life so you feel good about yourself.

Being Impressed By Your Partner
Another easy way to impress your partner is to show that you are impressed by them, their life and your relationship. When your partner tries to do something to improve their life, make sure they know you have noticed. It is a nice idea to tell them how nice they look or how well they are doing.
While it may be hard to change your life in order to impress someone you will find that once you make the effort to change, your partner will be impressed. It is only when we sit and refuse to change or improve anything about ourselves that our lives become stagnant.

Branch Brook Park in Newark during the Cherry Blossom Festival. © 2003 Matthew Trump. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

It’s springtime, and the cherry trees are in full bloom. All across the country, anywhere where cherry trees grow, beautiful pink flowers are bursting forth to tell everyone that it’s time to celebrate spring. In fact, we’re halfway through as of yesterday.

Cherry Blossom festivals are also blossoming everywhere from San Francisco to Washington DC. I went to one this last week, put on by the Diversity Achievement Center at Linn Benton Community College. It was a nice time, celebrating Japanese culture. Displaying student art, poetry, traditional Japanese food, and a Taiko Drumming demonstration.

My haiku perfectly fits the main idea of the Cherry Blossom festivals from America to Japan, which are to celebrate the ephemeral nature of life. Based around the Japanese concept of mono no aware (moe-no-no-ahwar-ay), literally meaning “the path of things”. The word describes awareness of all things temporal. It’s a peaceful symbol, equated with the simple passing of time in nature, and the gentle sadness at the ending of something short lived.

But few people celebrating know that cherry blossoms as a symbol have a darker history than one would think. During World War 2, they helped unite the Jaoanese people to fight against the Americans. They became a symbol, inciting intense nationalism and militaristic pride among the masses. Used in propaganda, they inspired the Japanese spirit, comparing warriors to cherry blossoms. Warriors were “ready like the myriad cherry blossoms to scatter.” As the flowers have also been used as metaphors for clouds (from blooming “en masse”), Japanese literature encouraged the troops to endure their suffering in China and around the islands, likening the cherry blossoms to dead soldiers.

Instead of flowers celebrating simple, ephemeral life, they became “flowers of death”, being painted on the sides of planes being flown on suicide missions. The soldiers would even take a branch with them on their mission, showing their pride to be like a cherry blossom. People’s association of the cherry blossoms had changed so much during that time that cherry petals falling to the ground have now come to symbolize the sacrifice of many young Japanese in honor of the Emperor. They signify the young people who lived a short, sweet life, and then (in the cherry blossom likeness) in due course with nature, fell to the earth with grace and beauty.

Sure, there are plenty of opportunities to spend money on mom for Mother's Day. Why not give her one of thes gifts from the heart?

By Joan Whetzel

Mother’s Day takes place the second Sunday of May. Retailers make sure everyone knows about it and offer up their wares as a way to “let mom know you love her.” How do you thank mom without spending tons of money on things she can’t or won’t use and has no space for? There are a few gifts from the heart that may count for more than any store bought gift.

Call Her

Let’s face it, not all families live in close proximity to each other. So you may not be able to do some of the other things that require spending physical time with mom. If this is you, then a phone call may have to be the next best thing to spending time with your mother. Don’t worry about minutes on your cell phone or the cost of a long distance call on your land line (does anybody still have these?). This is your mom we’re talking about here. She’s worth the time and the cost of a phone call. Make sure to tell her you love her.

Flowers from Your Garden

In my yard I grow a few flowers. Some were planted by the previous owner, some were planted by me and my husband. I have gardenias, climbing roses, and some bulb flowers in my back yard that I don’t know the name of, but they are beautiful. I like to give them to others. They make cheerful gifts for all occasions. And women love them because you are sharing some of the beauty from your own garden rather than running to the store to purchase some bundle of unidentifiable flowers that you put no thought or time into.

Cook Her a Meal

So you’ve learned to cook, and you’re pretty good at it, if you do say so yourself. Do you use your skills to feed your husband, children, friends? Do they rave about your meals and can’t wait to get to the dinner table? If the answer to these questions is yes, then perhaps it’s time to return the favor to your mother for all the meals she prepared for you by cooking one of your best meals for her. If not on Mother’s Day, then schedule the grand meal for another day that works for both of you. Either cook at her house or invite her over to yours. Set the table with the good china, linen napkins and candles. Don’t forget the wine and background music. And let her know that clean up is included.

Take Her Out for Dinner and a Show

What if you can’t cook? No problem, there’s still her favorite restaurant or that restaurant she’s always wanted to try. Be sure to get there early or make reservations if you plan to take her on Mother’s Day. The good restaurants are always packed and have long waiting lines on such important days. If you mom doesn’t mind eating out on another day, why not take her out on those days?

For the show, take her to a movie that’s just come out. We have one community theater not far from my mom’s house that puts on some wonderful productions and has fantastic actors. If you have a community theater, buy tickets and take her to see their latest play. No matter which show you take her to, coordinate it with the dinner so they both end up on the same “date.”

If she lives out of town and you be with her, then it may be acceptable to send her a gift card for the restaurant and show. But if at all possible, be there with her, in person, to share the meal and show because, really, it’s spending time with her children that she values most. Which brings me to my final point.

Spend Time with Mom

Spending time with mom is the biggest and best gift from the heart for any mother. Just ask one. What you do together during that time doesn’t have to be fancy, extravagant, or expensive. It could simply be spending the afternoon playing cards or building a puzzle on the card table. Or taking her on a picnic to the local park and grilling hot dogs, with all the fixings. Bring watermelon and potato salad or any other picnic foods you liked as kids. It’s the time that matters most.

What if your mother is no longer with us? – God rest her soul – maybe there is another “mother” you’d like to honor. Perhaps you know of a mother who won’t be able to spend time with her children, for whatever reason. There are always mothers in nursing homes who don’t have someone to spend the day with them. Choose a surrogate mom and celebrate her for a day. Trust me, your mom will be looking down on you and smiling.

Having a holiday with your partner is not just about relaxing, so how can you make it more romantic?

Having a holiday may not just be about getting some time away. If you are part of a couple, you may need to add some romance to your break. While finding a florist is easy wherever you are, you should try to go that extra mile – even if it means travelling to remote, secluded places. Location has a lot to do with how romantic you can make your holiday, but not all of us can afford the most exclusive locations. Regardless of where you are, romance is also about your activities and attitudes.

Choosing a Romantic Location

Finding the right romantic location will depend on you and your partner, and what kind of places you both like. For those who like the cold, there is nothing more amazing than heading off to the snow. This way you can both enjoy hitting the slopes by day and, in the evenings, sit next to a fire in each other’s arms. If the cold weather is not your thing, many people find tropical countries or tropical islands more romantic. This can provide some amazingly beautiful settings to enjoy with your partner. Imagine walking along perfect white beaches with crystal-clear waters at sunset and you are all set to make your holiday more romantic.

Finding Romantic Activities

Finding the right romantic location is important, but perhaps not as important as what you do when you’re there. Even if your holiday spot is not so glamorous, you can always go for walks together and find romantic things to do, such as a picnic. After all, you can never go wrong with a romantic picnic and some fresh flowers to give to your girl. Being romantic doesn’t have to be complicated and sometimes the clichéd ideas work best. Remember, you are on holiday, too, so organise some wine and cheese to enjoy as a treat! Whatever you decide to do, make it something you will both love and that will kindle the love you have inside.

Eat, Drink and Be Merry

The easiest way to increase the romanticism of your holiday is to enjoy good food, wine (or another drink) and enjoy yourselves. Make sure you put aside funds for a few fancy dinners out and even some music and dancing. The last thing you want to do is cook all your own meals. Find out what food your partner enjoys most and make sure to book an appropriate restaurant. You might also want to try somewhere different or exciting. For example, if you are normally eat Asian-style food, why not try something completely different, like French?

Having a Romantic Attitude

The most important thing is a positive romantic attitude! Remember that you are on holiday and anything goes! Lots of little gestures will get your partner in the right romantic mindset as well.

I was looking forward to my long 2012 Easter break. I'd been working incredibly long hours and, by mid Thursday afternoon, I couldn't wait to finish my working week and spend four days relaxing. But was it to be? Don't be daft; of course it wasn't!

Good Friday morning appeared promising. The weather was bright and sunny when I got up, if somewhat cold. I’d received some plants through the post earlier in the week from Buckingham Nurseries - http://www.hedging.co.uk/index.html - that I wanted to get into the ground but, looking at my lawn which I’d recently fed (with organic fertiliser of course!), I decided it was probably best to cut it before I get stuck into the flower beds. By around 10.30 I’d achieved my main “task of the day”; I stopped to make a coffee and stood in the kitchen which overlooks the back garden and started planning in my mind where I’d put my new plants.

I’d also received some tubers and bulbs from Gardens4You – http://www.gardens4you.co.uk- and from Suttons – http://www.suttons.co.uk – a very well known seed/plant company here in the UK, but my main concern was to get the rooted plants in.

I had two rose bushes; both scented, one a maroon red/orange and the other a pale pink, which needed to be put at the sunny end of my garden.

I then had a fern which I wanted to plant in the damp shady area to complement my lilac, violets and snowdrops closer to my house.

I also had two bearded irises which needed to go somewhere in between as they like to be moist but, at the same time, benefit from a fair bit of sun.

And last but not least, I had five raspberry canes which had already started to shoot. Last year I’d planted up a gooseberry bush and a blackcurrant bush which had already started to shoot so I decided it would be a good idea to plant the new canes behind the two fruit bushes to complete my little soft fruit area.

I’d set out my soft fruite area beyond my apricot tree which I received as a “lucky dip” cheapy from Suttons last year. I must admit that, at the time I’d ordered it for less than half the normal price of a fruit tree, I’d hoped it’d be a self fertilising apple or pear but, as luck would have it, I was sent an apricot which requires a fair bit of tender loving care. It had over wintered clothed in some old ripped up pillow cases held round it by a few clothes pegs and I’d noticed a week or two previously that buds had now started to shoot and, at the time of this article, the tree had responded to my winter ministrations by throwing forth several blooms so, ever hopeful, I’m looking forward to having at least one edible apricot on it this year!!

The year prior to my “lucky dip apricot tree”, I’d gone for a lucky dipper and had been rewarded with a cherry tree which is doing phenomenally well in a dip between the bottom of our garden and a meadow which is let to Hillside Animal Sanctuary – http://www.hillside.org.uk although the land is actually owned by our local farmer but he doesn’t mind us planting trees, herbs or “horse friendly” plants out there provided we keep a boundary between the end of our garden and that of the meadow. We’d had quite a few cherries on the tree last year but the birds had taken those, not that we mind sharing with the wildlife of course!

But I transgress … While I was pondering on what to plant where, my mother called. Nothing wrong with that I hear you say! Unfortunately my mother is one of those chatter boxes who won’t take a hint once she gets into her stride. She asked if I was OK – to which I responded, “yes, I’m fine. I’ve just finished cutting the lawn and stopped for a coffee and I’m now planning where to put my plants which I got earlier in the week. They’ve been sitting outside on the footpath wrapped in damp newspaper and straw but I desperately want to get them into the ground as it seems we’re in for a rough Easter weather-wise”.

“Good”, Mum said, and then launched into a running commentary. “Jessie’s going over to Maureen’s today for lunch and tea … Shirley’s gone away for the weekend to stay with her family … She said she’d leave her key with me but hasn’t … There goes Malcolm out to walk his dog … There’s the merry widow doing some gardening … Oh, someone’s just pulled up in a car outside Colin’s house … I wonder if Sainsbury’s [supermarket] is open over the Easter weekend … The weather’s lovely and sunny here but it’s cold …”, at which stage I managed to make myself heard above her prattle.

“The weather was great here when I got up”, I shouted down the phone, “but the wind’s picked up now and it looks as if it’s going to rain. If I don’t get my plants in quickly I’m going to have to be out in pouring rain to get them into the ground”.

“Oh well”, she responded, “never mind”.

By the time she’d finished giving me her diatribe of events in North Walsham it had started to rain and and the wind was blowing a gale so I had to don my heavy gardening shoes and my thick fleece jacket with hood and get stuck into the garden with my spade and fork. Can’t say it was the most enjoyable morning’s gardening I’d had and by the time I finally got in for my lunch at about half past two, the only consolation I had was the fact that the plants would be well watered in … if they weren’t blown out of the garden by the wind first!

The weather got progressively worse during the afternoon and I would have loved to have got onto my PC and written up an article for Triond to while away the hours until supper but as Adam, my partner, was building himself a new PC I’d told him I’d leave him well alone. He needed space in the office to lay out all his bits and pieces and he’d also asked if he could have access to my PC in case he needed to refer to the internet for info on the new hardware.

I could hardly expect him to change his timetable just because mine had failed so I decided I’d do a bit of cake baking, clean and dust round our bedroom and then settle down to watch a film and opted for an old 1940s version of The Thief of Baghdad.

I eventually entered the office (Adam’s workshop) just to check my emails and found that Adam wasn’t getting on as well as he would have liked with his PC building and was becoming increasingly fractious. Thankfully, there was good news in the emails for us!

I sometimes order takeaway food online when I know I’m going to be working late and, in amongst the junk email asking if I’d like to buy Viagra, have breast implants, etc etc, I found that JustEat - http://www.just-eat.co.uk – who I use to order my takeaway, had sent me one stating that they had a special offer which applied just to Good Friday – order a takeaway and I’d get 10% off the price! It was ideal – I wouldn’t need to cook and Adam could have whatever he fancied to cheer him up; whether it be Chinese, Indian, Turkish, Thai or English. As we follow the old tradition of eating fish on a Friday, we opted for fish and chips which were duly delivered at around 7.00, at which point Adam stopped to eat and then disappeared back upstairs to his little cell to continue with the trials and tribulations of PC building while I remained curled up in front of the fire and caught up with a bit more TV.

I finally went to bed at about midnight and said a brief prayer that Saturday wouldn’t be so wet and cold and that maybe I could finally get on with putting some tubers and bulbs into pots of compost; that Adam would be a little less stressed and finally manage to solve the problems with his PC; and that the whole day would be at least 50% better than today.

Was it to be? Nope!!!!!

How can you make the day special?

A lot of people take their mothers for granted. For the majority of us, our Mothers have always been there, and for the lucky ones, they still are. I know that my Mum has never left me wanting for anything, and that she would give her own life to save mine if she needed to for some reason. This means that Mothers Day is the perfect day for you to show her just how much she means to you, so you shouldn’t miss this opportunity to do so now that you have the chance.

This article will help you to think about some of the things that you could do to make your Mother feel special. There are some things that you could do even if you don’t have money available to you, as it is more about making her feel as though she means a lot to you rather than feeling as though you’ve just spent a lot of money on her.

Spread things out throughout the day. Don’t just give her presents in the morning and then forget about it for the rest of the day. Have something planned for every couple of hours, whether that’s a present, or one of the other ideas which is explained in this article.

Get some flowers. If you can afford to get her some flowers delivered, then this is an amazing way to show her that you care, but even doing something like getting some cheap boquets from the local shop can look nice in the lounge and brighten up the room for your Mum. Every little thing that you do will show her that you care, so make sure that you do your best to do this.

Make her breakfast in bed. This is good way to start the day, and it will mean that she has a little bit of extra time to relax at the start of her day. You could try and add a little something that she doesn’t normally have, for example an egg, or maybe a few small chocolates in the shape of hearts to show her that you care about her.

Take on responsibilities. If your Mum has things that she normally has to do on a Sunday (for example ironing, washing, etc) tell her that you are going to do these for her today. You might want to try and get everything like this done while she is relaxing in the bath after breakfast, as it means that she is doing something that she is going to enjoy, and you don’t have to miss any quality time with her while you’re working.

Cook her a nice meal. Of course, you could always go out for a meal, but this can be very expensive and there is often no need to do so. Cook her some of her favourite foods, and make sure you do dessert as well. If she is still lucky enough to have parents, this might be a chance to invite them over to make sure that she is able to see them. Never underestimate the effect of a nice table setting. Maybe make placemats, or put a small flower next to each place setting, just to make things a little bit more special.

Make the most of the weather. If you are lucky enough to get a sunny day, make the most of it and take your Mum for a walk in the afternoon. It is a good chance to have a nice chat with her, and the sun will make you both a lot happier and more relaxed. If you aren’t lucky enough to live within walking distance of somewhere that is nice to walk in, you could drive for anything up to around half an hour to try to get to somewhere that you could walk.

No matter which of these tips you decided to take, this Mothers Day is sure to be great for both you and your Mum. We should never forget just how lucky we are to have our Mothers, and this day is the perfect one to be able to show this to them.
