Hey I understand all to well that life does throw you a high fast ball and yes sometimes you will feel true grief maybe even frustration.

But the pain of life will leave lessons and you will at some point understand the message and lesson.  Life and its failures will leave clues that point to success.

We all can lift are head to the heavens and ask the question ‘Why me Lord’

and we should but after we ask it, we should be quiet and still and listen for the answer.  It will come…..  We all have a purpose in life and even when life has given you that high fast ball, try to get out the way of it.

I truly try to be that spark for you.  To be that light in the morning, to inspire, to bring about a smile, a better understanding of the power of the smile, simple kindness.  

That is my intention and I am grateful to God above for you the reader to taking the time to take it in.

It is sort of a partnership of sorts.  All the light in the world will not work if we always want to stay in the darkness and isolate ourselves from others.

It can hurt being part of the human race, sometimes what we expect from those we are close to is not what we get.

The phrase ‘it always seems those closest to us seem to hurt us the most’ is often heard but in fact it need not be that way.

Establish your values, your values and stick to them.  Don’t let another determine what is important to you and try to redefine you. That is not love, that is control.

Establish your esteem, what you think about yourself is critical to what your perception is about another.  You must never let another person try to define your worth or value. If they don’t love you unconditionally then it was never really love at all.

Place upon your heart the desire to improve and reevaluate yourself.  Daily we should look at written goals that we have established for our life.  Goals are the road map for achievement.

We are either growing in life or dying with life.

Everyday we change, we must be grateful for that fact, for without change we would be already dead and starting to decay.

Live, laugh, love and learn a little bit more each day.

Smile each day, laugh each day and do something nice for another each day.  When we put out these emotions and actions, they will return.

Should we put out ingratitude, hate, anger, common sense says it will return, and time after time we can see it with another that it does return often effecting more than just that person. It effects the lives of those around them.

Be that light, that spark, that candle in the wind.

Be grateful for what has been given to you.  Even if you have a little understand that you really have more than enough.

Thanksgiving can be a very expensive holiday indeed.  This particular day arguably sets the tone for the rest of the holiday season—all the way to New Year’s Day.  With the economy still in the forefront of so many people’s minds, saving money at the outset may be the best idea to keep your pocketbook in check.

While not a new idea, a potluck Thanksgiving relieves the host of much of the cost and hassle.  We all know how much preparation goes into readying your home for guests you don’t see very often.  This burden, combined with the need to prepare multiple dishes for these guests can create a lot of unnecessary stress on the meal’s hosts.

Discuss Thanksgiving Day arrangements with your host and/or guests and distribute the preparation of the dishes.  This will allow all parties involved more time to enjoy each other’s company and less time fretting over a hot stove.  After all, sharing your good fortune and signature dishes is yet another fantastic way to show your gratitude on a day dedicated to just that.

The thanksgiving turkey is also something that most people are looking forward to because not all people in US have turkey everyday on their tables. But during thanksgiving day, they can have it roasted or baked. There is a legend on  on why people in United Stated always have turkey on thanksgiving day. They even call it thanksgiving turkey. It is interesting to learn why they use turkey as symbol for thanksgiving. I would search on that and write about it for us to know why turkey has a big part on thanksgiving celebration.

Well, to me, thanksgiving can be done anytime of the year. Most Filipinos are doing that. They have no specific time of the year to celebrate thanksgiving day. Whenever they have something to thank to the Lord, they will do the celebration anytime. They will invite their family and other relatives to join with them in the celebration. Neighbors and friends are welcome to celebrate thanksgiving with them because not everybody is having the same day of celebration so, they can join with others.  Well, America has a specific day of thanksgiving celebration because this was started by their forefathers who had the  idea of giving thanks based on the experiences they had during colonization period. Thanksgiving is an exciting and fun event of the year too because families are joined together for the celebration.

Traditionally, Thanksgiving is the day we count our blessings and give thanks.  For some cultures, this practice extends over Kwanzaa.  Why is it we often forget how blessed we are and fail to give thanks every day?  I’ve had many reasons recently to think about the way blessings come to us in many forms throughout our lives.

The blessings I’m counting; for which I give thanks

In April of this year (2009) I was hospitalized.  Rather than a disaster, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.  That hospitalization brought me to a screeching halt and put mortality straight in my face.  I began making the necessary changes in my lifestyle; most changes were mere baby steps, but I made them.

I started thinking about the goals I wanted to accomplish ’someday.’  ‘Someday’ had waited through raising a family; working to support that family; helping to raise grandchildren; and lately, helping my mom.  In all, I had spent close to a half century thinking ’someday’ would come.  As I worked to regain balance, I accepted that there weren’t that many days left; I had better get started.

I had planned to complete my degree.  My original plan was to attend my state university once I became a senior citizen and could take advantage of the senior tuition waiver.  Well, we all know how the economy has been the past couple of years.  Budget cuts took away the senior citizen tuition waiver.  I checked out online schools and applied even though I doubted I could make tuition payments or get financial aid.  I was wrong, I was accepted at a good university and my admissions counselor worked to help me clear the financial aid hurdle.  Big blessing!

Blessings through adversity

Adding school to the rest of my responsibilities filled my plate to overflowing.  I was doing well in the first few weeks; then I slipped an assignment deadline.  My healthy lifestyle changes disappeared.  My mom started needing more of my time.  I despaired over keeping my grades up so I could win scholarships and lessen the amount of my student loan repayment.

Just this night, I called an ambulance to take my mother to the emergency room.  While putting myself together to meet her there, I realized I had slipped another assignment deadline.  That’s when I realized I was facing another blessing in disguise:  it wasn’t worth my sanity or my health to maintain a 4.0 average.  It certainly wasn’t worth missing time with my mother.  I found the button between ‘full speed ahead’ and ’stop.’  Its label is ‘moderation.’  It’s not going to be easy, but I’ve been blessed with an insight on priorities and how unnecessary it is to be a superstar.  I’ve found a way to take myself off the hook and lessen my level of stress.

Giving thanks every day

  I’m home from the emergency room; my mother is with me.  Her health is still fragile, but we’re working to improve that as much as humanly possible.  Better yet, she’s still her determined, full-of-vinegar self.  I truly give thanks for this blessing. While you are sitting at your tables, blessed with food and family, definitely give thanks.  We’ve all received a blessing, no matter how tough things are in this economy.  We’re alive and loved.  There are those souls that don’t even have that.  While we’re celebrating Thanksgiving, let’s remember that each day is an opportunity to recognize the blessings we have; that each day is a new start and a chance to do better.  Each day alive is a blessing in itself for which to give thanks.

There were two primary challenges that came dangerously close to stopping me on the road to homeownership. A short while before the closing on my first and only dream home was to take place, an individual with no insurance and in a large SUV ran a red light and almost sent me on a cruise towards non-existence. My vehicle did not survive, but thankfully I did and after substantial medication, medical attention, and physical therapy I was still able to make the closing. I continue to go to physical therapy so that I may continue to improve and am thoroughly ecstatic by the fact that I am no longer well medicated. Shortly after the accident, and also just before the closing, the love of my life and spouse of ten years went away with a fellow colleague–never to come back. Getting through the trauma of the accident and the disheartening loss of a loved one at almost the same time was almost too much to bear. With the help of family and friends, I steadily continued to piece my new life together-a fragile minute at a time–and eventually made it to the closing.

That is how my dream of homeownership materialized and if this dream had been free of challenges I do not think I would be as happy and appreciative as I am now. The opportunity to start a new life, in a new dream home, may not have been possible without these challenges that presented themselves.
