An article about global warming.

What is global warming?

Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of Earth’s near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century and its projected continuation. Experts say that global warming is caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases resulting from human activities such as fossil burning and deforestation.

Global warming causes the earth to get warmer. The most drastic effect of global warming can be seen in the Arctic, where huge masses of ice are breaking apart and where glaciers are melting. This causes a rise in global sea levels. It will cause an increase in tropical cyclones and cause heatstroke and deaths. It will also cause an increase of malaria and dengue fever cases. Economically, it will cause a slight negative effect to the developed agricultural sector. An example is Australia. Over the last few years, Australia has been suffering drought in many areas that have led to its poor harvest of crops.

Global warming is caused by greenhouse gases. What are greenhouse gases?

Greenhouse gases are gases like ozone, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide that cause a greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is the process by which absorption and emission of infrared radiation by gases in the atmosphere warm a planet’s lower atmosphere and surface. Human activity since the Industrial Revolution has increased the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, leading to increased radiative forcing from CO2, methane, tropospheric ozone, CFC and nitrous oxide. CFC is a gas (chlorofluorocarbons) that come from aerosols like the mosquito spray or the air freshener spray. Carbon Dioxide is produced when we breathed out air. Plants absorb co2 so if there are not enough plants, the co2 levels will increase. Carbon monoxide or CO is also a major contributor toward global warming. CO comes from car exhaust, factory smoke, open burning and volcano explosions.

As you all have heard, global warming is a serious matter. It cannot be taken for granted. There are a few steps we can take to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions. Firstly, we must do the 3Rs. Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. This can reduce deforestation by around 27%. Next, we should support global activities, such as Earth Hour. We can also help by taking public transport such as buses and trains. We can reduce the amount of fossil fuel burnt by using lights and fans only when necessary.

We can all help by doing as I have said. Even though it is not much, but it can help. After all, what if all the 6 billion people in the world did the same thing? it would save the earth zillions of tons of greenhouse gases in a long term.

In the last decade, the global temperature has designed by 1.84°C and it has become quite clear that the global warming is not a fictitious theory but a looming disaster. The scientific community has widely realized the fact and publicized the matter in order to raise some global awareness regarding the issue. Realizing the impending danger governments across the world has collaborated course creation of the Kyoto protocol and has invested huge amounts of money towards its implementation.

All the governments across the world have realized the fact that without social awareness no amount of rules or regulations can actually reduce the level of pollution and a huge number of campaigns have been launched to remedy the situation. Now it is our responsibility to create a socially responsible and greener lifestyle to reduce the levels of pollution and save our precious limited resources. Scientific communities across the world have announced several simple rules or steps that can be taken towards creating a more socially responsible and green living atmosphere.

These simple steps are outlined as follows:

Create an energy efficient home: an energy efficient home will greatly reduce the usage and wastage of energy and this can be easily achieved by simple replacements of lighting fixtures with more energy efficient options. Consumers are also urged towards buying more energy-efficient appliances for their household purposes.

Reduce the amount of waste: any home can easily increase their socially responsible behavior by reducing the amount of waste they produce by simply using leftovers for breakfast rather than throwing them away or even donating unused clothing or furniture to organizations like Salvation Army rather than throwing them in trash.

Recycling: this is one of the biggest aspects that can really create a socially responsible green home. Modern-day technologies allow easy recycling of water around the halls to be used for more than one purpose, which effectively minimizes the wastage of water around the house. Also simply recycling your aluminum cans, plastic bottles or even glassware can greatly reduce pollution and contribute towards a more socially responsible behavior.

Become a more socially responsible consumer: a simple step like choosing a paper bag over plastic for bagging your groceries at the grocery store can be one of the most effective steps towards making up a greener planet. There are also many other steps that can easily be utilized towards the same.

In conclusion, it is our responsibility to create a greener planet, and it is as easy as a walk in the park.

Creating unity and developing a sense of universal peace is dependent on developing compassionate communication, exploring other cultures and building and open honest dialogue with others outside our cultural zones.

For many centuries, humanity has shaped the destiny of the world. In its many incarnations humans have been both creator and destroyer, peacemaker and warrior, and judge and jury. Humans continue to serve as children of the earth and stewards of the greater universe. Each individual is responsible for weaving their own personality, gifts and unique talents into the web of humanity. Each person believing that their way is right and just, most to the extreme of believing it is the only way to proceed. This is the foundation for creating strife, division and each war. Creating unity and developing a sense of universal peace is dependent on developing compassionate communication, exploring other cultures and building an open honest dialogue with others outside our cultural zones.

Every culture has added their unique perception of communication. Every symbol represents a meaning and form of speech to its creators. Every culture forms a branch on the universal tree. Inquiry of a specific meaning for a symbol begins a path of exploration and discovery into the history of humanity.

The path of self discovery opens doors to further communication with other cultures. By delving into the questions of self we set forth on a path of knowing others. This path is an invitation to explore, gain insight and learn from the experiences of others than our own society. As one begins to explore these foreign lands, they begin to find similarities and differences. In similarities, humans find comfort and security. This is the entrance of each individual’s healing journey. In this case, healing representing the balancing of light and dark elements of the unknown with the known. This is a dwelling place of inspiration, aspirations and learning how to be human. In the process of healing, human beings begin to view differences, unknowns and fears as sources of learning. As an individual’s fears begin to diminish, they subside to reveal an ocean of wealth and treasures for self and community. We are each able to see that all individuals have a place in the universe. Every individual is an influential aspect and sacred life nurturing the roots of the universal tree.

If we can envision each individual nurturing the universal tree we can furthermore explore the concepts of connectedness and compassion. On this premise let us ask ourselves, “What can we learn from one another and how will these new insights bring forth change in our society?”

As the path widens so do the complexities of human nature. In order to gain a better understanding we look around us and uncover the layers of society. If societies are created by people, than how do multi-cultural societies live amongst one another? As Dean Barnlund stated (1975), ” Every communication, interpersonal or intercultural, is a transaction between two private worlds. As people talk they search for symbols that will enable them to share their experiences and converge upon a common meaning. This process, often long and sometimes painful, makes it possible finally to reconcile apparent or real differences between them.” What would happen if we changed the pillars holding up society from fear based to respect, compassion, understanding and unconditional love for humanity?

Respect, compassion, understanding and unconditional love for humanity sound like a utopian dream, but are they honestly attainable? Let us investigate these layers on a deeper level to see what we can uncover! Respect, for centuries, has been used as a catch all phrase stated at opportune times to create an illusion of reconciliation.

Each culture has a set of beliefs that are important to them. They are the guidelines from which they live, interact and evolve. Respect encompasses a belief that permits each individual to acknowledge that we are each free to have our own world views without forcing our own beliefs on others. We can all live in harmony and nurture the roots of the universal tree without condemning beliefs outside our own. With respect we begin to gain a broader range of understanding. We are able to step back, listen actively and learn about the other person. When we listen to others we encourage trust, become active participants and are able to respond differently. Listening to others also provides a forum for growing compassion and further defining communication skills.

Compassion is the act of unconditional love. Unconditional love can be viewed as an ever present, authentic and genuine caring for another human being. It is a love that incorporates the balance of mind, body and spirit. It requires honesty and openness to admit fears. This admittance permits one to open their heart and see beyond the barriers of society. It permeates on a level that seeks to restore balance, to share life experiences and to expand our scope of individual awareness. As we allow these new frameworks to enter our minds, bodies and spirits, we find ourselves renewed with a desire to establish peaceful relations.

The differences in neighborhoods, cultures, societies and families become stepping stones from which we can restore balance to humanity. Each serving as ambassadors of peace! Each acknowledging their unique wisdom to share with others and holding one another accountable for reshaping the destination of universal peace. Every individual recognizing that they are a part of something greater, knowing that to honor ones highest good is to also honor the highest good of all humankind. In conclusion, each individual represents a set of footprints on the path, every culture builds upon the earth as a temple, every society builds the world from which we create unity in an ever changing universe.

Huge trash vortexes are polluting our oceans. One vortex near Hawaii is larger than the state of Texas.

Trash vortexes are created by the ocean currents washing trash and toxic pollutants to areas such as one near Hawaii that has reached a size approximately the same as the state of Texas. Greenpeace maintains that these vortexes contain toxins such as plastic. Other pollutants also reside in these vortexes. When they break down in the water, the result is a sample that resembles what you can find in a snow globe. Not only that, marine life is endangered by ingesting the plastic. As a result they literally choke or starve to death because it has blocked their digestive systems.

Efforts are being made to collect and remove these pollutants. Fortunately, scientists are making progress in developing new plastics that are actually biodegradable. These new plastics are made from a corn by product. You can read more about the many products made from corn in my article Corn: The Miracle Crop of the Modern World.

These vortexes are a global problem and can not be left to one nation to address. The entire world must join together and keep our Mother Earth healthy and clean. With the advances in technology that have occurred in the last few decades, there is no excuse for letting this problem continue.

Greenpeace pioneered the now world wide campaign to clean up our planet. Created to combat the affects of the nuclear tests being done in Alaska, Greenpeace has expanded their mission to include environmental abuses that endanger wildlife species. The Greenpeace home page displays their concern for the oceans and the affect pollution has had on their ecosystems.
