Greenpeace is often portrayed in a negative sense due to the number of vigilantes who protest on behalf of them. But is it all bad?

Well I can say No. It is not all bad. It is not all about the extremists who take things a tad too far, chaining themselves to oil rigs or climbing the building of parliament. Greenpeace is a Charity who wants to protect the environment and animals. Is there anything wrong with that?

You may be asking yourself; How does she know what its like? Well because I, myself, have campaigned on behalf of them. Nothing too major just taken part in a couple of their small peer pressure campaigns to stop companies destroying rainforest’s and to change the fishing to save creatures like sharks and dolphins. These campaigns were nothing more than sending outraged emails to the CEOs of the companies involved, and you know what? It worked. The companies changed their ways.

When I first started supporting Greenpeace my dad was appalled by it. He said I would ruin my chances of a good career and potentially ruin my life by ending up with a criminal record. But lets face it. Not all the protests Greenpeace carry out cause anarchy and destruction. But the extremists do attract a lot of media attention and though it is not always a good thing it does bring to light the reason they do it, the reason they protest. And although it does make Greenpeace look like an extremist group it doesn’t mean everyone who helps, protests or supports it are like that.

You get idiots in every group from Charities to Political parties. Why should Greenpeace get a bad name just because a few idiots went a step too far to get what we fight for recognised?

How we are damaging our planet and what we can do to help it.

Image via Wikipedia

You see that, yeah the picture up there ^ if you don’t already know ( I would be seriously worried if you didn’t) that is our home, our planet Earth. However that’s just a picture and it doesn’t exactly show how the Earth looks like since we humans “civilized”. So instead imagine this, imagine a world completely covering every inch of the world every shop, every school and even every home; and all there will be are small parasites and insects left behind in a world that doesn’t care. That is actually in a nutshell that is just a bit over exaggerated what may happen one day in the future.

Obviously you by now should now sensed the tone and understood what message that I’m trying to put across. Unfortunately some of you may be thinking oh great another preachy hippie has found his way to the Internet and in some sense I guess it’s true however i just view myself one of the few people born too late in a world that ceased to care. I know though there are people that do care about the world and not themselves hopefully some of them are reading this article.

The current situation of our planet is not good at all; our ozone layer is ripped many species habitats are being torn down and as the result those animals may be extinct in the new future. It doesn’t take much to help our environment just simple things can make a difference such as:

Switching off your electrical appliances when not in use

Taking the bus or other public transport rather that using than a car (the lower carbon emissions are the better)

Use energy efficient bulbs instead the traditional bulbs ( the squiggly ones)

Adopting an endangered animal by just donating a measly £5 per month

Sign petitions to help our environment at www.greenpeace.com

Please I am pleading to you , yes you the reader of this article I am very much aware that most the people reading this will just go about their day-to-day lives fully of what they are doing is harming our environment. But you can be different please it is time for make our voice heard. Thank you

The announcement was issued by the office of Greenpeace Southeast Asia inIndonesia, on Tuesday (10/11/2011).

“Mattel ordered the supplier to avoid wood fiber from companies known to be involvedthe destruction of forests,” said Zulfahmi, Forest Campaigner of Greenpeace Southeast Asia in the E-News Greenpeace.

Mattel’s decision was taken after thousands of people to send protest emails to Matteland millions of others saw Ken and spread the video interview. They want the remainingforests in Southeast Asia will be retained and preserved.

“This is a great result. But there is still much we must do to ensure that forests inIndonesia are not extinct and endangered animals that carry like an orangutan andSumatran tigers with him,” said Zulfahmi.

This EasyCup sounds simple, but could change the way of living.

After EasyWay’s numerous use of plastic cups to achieve their goal of giving Taiwanese drinks to others, they create a new cup that is easily sustained for the good of the environment.

So let’s see a cup that can be used again and again? That would be a solution to a lot of fast food restaurants? We would have reuseable cups that people have and that will stop objects going to the dump. That’d help groups like PlanetArk and Greenpeace right?

Well there’s always a downside, the money we have to use to buy one, but it’d keep the planet safe. But there’s another downer, we’d have to carry this cup everywhere we go right? Well yes, that’s the bigger issue, and that’s what people will be looking to solve.

So do you think this will have a better impact in the world and do you think it can change the society of consume and pollute?

T-shirts, underwear, and "sweat" and other hooded shirts and pants ... Greenpeace analyzed 15 clothing brands that market their products worldwide. The authors have discovered traces of ... hormone disruptors whose use and placing on the market are banned in Europe for many years. Explanations.

The authors of this work have sifted through 78 articles, representing 15 brands: Adidas ®, Abercrombie & Finch ®, Calvin Klein ®, Converse ®, G-Star Raw ®, Gap ®, H & M ®, Kappa ®, Lacoste ® Li -Ning ®, Nike ®, Puma ®, Ralph Lauren ®, Uniqlo Youngor ® and ®. The clothes in question were manufactured in 13 countries. They were also purchased in 18 states. Note that France is not among them, unlike many neighboring Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain.

The report is entitled Dirty Laundry 2, ie dirty linen in French. And for good reason, Greenpeace has found traces of nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPE) in 52 items tested. What is it?

These substances belong to the family of alkylphenols. In the MSDS, the National Institute for Research and Safety (INRS) reports and carcinogenic effects on reproduction. Besides the NPE can also cause skin irritations.

No known risks to the holders of clothes?

At the “natural” state, these products come in “the form of a pale yellow viscous liquid and give off a slight phenolic odor,” says its part the National Institute for Industrial Environment and Risks Industrial (INERIS ). In the textile industry, NPEs are used as surfactants. But their use in Europe for the treatment of leather clothing and has been banned since 2003.

In its report, Greenpeace insists that these products tend to accumulate in the environment. And for good reason, the simple “move the clothes in question under water eliminates residues NPE,” say the authors. Good news for those who wear them but not for groundwater (see graphic below cons) … “While the presence of NPE is low on each garment, the releases can be substantial,” the scale of population, says Greenpeace.

However, the authors reassure customers. “The levels found are not expected to pose a risk to the health of people who wear them.” Still they call the manufacturers to stop using these substances in any country whatsoever.

Greenpeace celebrated its 40th anniversary within the town of its birth on Saturday with a workshop on civil disobedience and a plea to Canada to higher protect the setting.

Some 200 activists met in Vancouver for events that also included workshops in banner making and tours on the Zodiac boats that the cluster uses in a number of its high-profile campaigns.

“Canada isn’t the country lots of individuals prefer to recall it as,” said Jessica Wilson, acting Greenpeace director for Vancouver’s home province of British Columbia, highlighting a poor Canadian record on curbing climate change and also the “dirty oil” from the Albertan tarsands.

“Not solely has Canada not been part of the solution, they’re actively working against different countries who try to develop meaningful climate targets.”

Greenpeace, originally called the “Don’t build a Wave Committee,” emerged from Vancouver’s peace movement and anti-nuclear protests of the first ’70s to become a worldwide organization with a 2010 budget of more than $300 million.

In its initial mission, on September fifteen, 1971, the cluster set off from Vancouver for the Arctic on a chartered ship that they renamed Greenpeace, protesting against a U.S. underground test of a 5.2-megaton hydrogen bomb.

Later campaigns centered on whaling, toxic waste and nuclear power, and in 1985 protests against French nuclear tests culminated within the French sinking of Greenpeace’s Rainbow Warrior ship in Auckland, New Zealand.

The ship was later scuttled off the New Zealand coast to produce a spot for divers and also the development of marine life.

Everyone is aware of what the Rainbow Warrior represented, in her heyday, was the iconic flagship of Greenpeace, often in the news and always helping somebody, something she will still be doing in retirement.

http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/multimedia/photos/rainbow-warrior-under-sail-dur-4/

After 22 years of front-line service, the iconic flagship of Greenpeace, the wonderful old ship Rainbow Warrior, has been donated by the movement to the NGO Friendship group of Bangladesh.

This organization specialises in re-fitting such vessels, then operating them as floating hospitals, aimed at treating poor people in remote area. Rainbow Warrior II, 2nd Greenpeace flagship, which had been commissioned after the 1985 New Zealand sinking, by the French, of the first such vessel, docked at Bangladesh Chittagong port on Monday last.

Captain of the past five years Mike Fincken expressed pleasure that his charge was going for such a good cause. Delivering medical assistance at several levels to extremely vulnerable communities, the ex-Greenpeace, 55-metre three-masted schooner, re-named the Rongdhonu – Bangla for rainbow- will be performing valuable service.

Having travelled the globe, blocking the Russian whaling fleet near Gibraltar, relocated the whole of the Rongelap island population after radiation contamination, and performed many other tasks, rainbow Warrior is a real veteran of the protest movement history, an icon of hope and a symbol emblem of action.

The spirit of the Rainbow Warrior will undoubtedly live on, as the vessel continues to be there for the under-privileged, once re-fitted becoming not just a floating hospital, but also and even more importantly, an emergency medical ship, giving great help and comfort to those in need.

Rest assured, though, that the water-borne activities of Greenpeace will continue, having commissioned the creation of a new Rainbow Warrior, scheduled, in October, to become the new flagship of the fleet once again. It gladdens the heart to see such an iconic ship going to such a worthy retirement, continuing to carry the message of hope she always did with such dignity.

In this paper I will discuss important groups and effects of environmentalism. Enjoy reading, like and comment if this paper helped you.

Imagine a world where activists and huge businesses could co-exist with each other. There would be no conflict, no fighting and everybody would be happy. Unfortunately this will never happen, simply because of the differences between the two groups: one puts the environment first and the other harms the environment to help the people of Earth survive and fulfill their needs every day. They both can act together if they wanted to, but they would rather not try to compromise. Sometimes the actions done by the activists are going too far and when exactly is this?

First of all, what exactly is environmentalism?. By definition it is “a theory that views environment rather than heredity as the important factor in the development and especially the cultural and intellectual development of an individual or group.”. So basically by definition it is a theory that people put the environment before everything. This sounds like a good idea, but it would be impossible to not harm the environment for us to survive because the environment was made for us to have something to survive off of. Without the nature we would not be able to create supplies needed for every day life. Now, if everybody could come to a compromise to how many supplies are used up per day, then this idea would work, but some people are more greedy than others. This is what causes the problem and creates conflict between activists and huge businesses.

There are two different types of groups in the activists and businesses. For activists there are peaceful groups and violent groups that act on certain situations in different ways. Now for the businesses the way I

see it is that there are the businesses that don’t even try to make a difference and the businesses that try to compromise by coming up with some Eco-friendly appliance. This may satisfy the eco-terrorists or there might be a case where the terrorists don’t even plan on changing. So there is actually no way to stop conflict if both sides do not want to cooperate and this is why there are constant battles and protests. Each action is good for either side because they might not gain anything, but they definitely feel better about themselves and gain publicity for their group.

Now, what is it that the activists are fighting for? They mainly focus on big companies emitting a lot of pollution into the air, which is also causing global warming, which is one of the things that they are trying to prevent and through this they are saving the Earth. People like Mr. Wu are trying to make a difference, but the companies know that they will lose a lot of money if they get shut down, so what they did is they shut Mr. Wu down by putting him in jail and separating him from his family. Him and his wife used to swim in the Tai lake in their childhood and now the tap has been blocked off from the lake for 2 million people because of the pollution caused by the factories dumping waste into the lake. This ties into how the government is helping to fix the situation.

Every government in the world is different, but one that I would like to look into and how they are helping the environment, or not helping, is the government of the United States. The EPA has come up with policies for the United States to follow and keep the environment clean and of course not everybody is following, but there are punishments for these people. Some of the many policies are: “Create business efficiencies that derive economic benefits and improve

environmental performance”, “Reduce the use of water and conserve other natural resources to protect ecosystems”. As seen from this, the government does want to make a change, but not everybody wants to follow these rules, so the activist “warriors” can’t really go after the government.

Now there are different types of environmental activist groups and one of the more common ones are non-governmental groups. These are groups like Greenpeace, WWF and so on, which work to protect the environment and act against things harming the environment. These groups are just made up of local people wanting to make a difference in the world whether it means stopping a fishing boat, or protecting endangered species.

These groups act very effectively simply because they are organized and they know what they are doing. Groups such as Greenpeace have many accomplishments on their website ever since their group formed, showing that they are a very effective group and are experienced. Now there aren’t many failures of environmental activist groups because they want to promote themselves in a good way. Every group failed in some way, but they want to hide this from the public so that their image is kept good. Greenpeace is trying to eliminate whale hunting to save the whales. They have calculated that 17 whales die each 30 minutes. They have already stopped many countries from whale fishing, but the constant battle to save the whales goes on. Greenpeace is here for a good cause and they are peaceful, as their name suggests, and they don’t want to harm anybody in the process of saving the Earth unlike some environmental extremist groups.

Back in 1976 the Animal Liberation Front, or ALF, formed to protect animals. This group is organized and can also be classified as a group of criminals doing their work for a good cause. They have many safe houses where they store stolen animals from labs and nurture them. To get these animals this group has to face extreme circumstances and in the past they have blown up factories, but they never hurt anyone. This group wants to stay non-violent unless extreme actions have to be taken. The reason they want to call themselves non-violent is because they want to keep the borderline between them and terrorists.

Another extreme group is Elf (Earth Liberation Front). This is a violent group and are not afraid of killing to save the environment as the ELF press office states: “economic sabotage and guerrilla warfare to stop the exploitation and destruction of the environment”. This group formed later than the ALF, but it is considered “the younger sister of ALF” because of how the two work together. This group has attacks reported in 17 countries and is international like ALF. Enough has been said about this group and it is very clear that this is a dangerous group.

Now the question given is when are the actions of environmentalism taken to a whole new level and going to far. The answer is the two groups that were mentioned above. “The information compiled showed that ALF, ELF, DBF and related groups claimed a total of 640 acts of sabotage, vandalism and arson in 2008, up from 467 in 2007, an increase of over 35 percent.” They think that they are doing this for a good cause, but really they are destroying things that could be changing the way we live. There could have been a cure for cancer in one of those labs, but not anymore since it has been burned down to the ground.

These extremists are harming everybody that is a part of a project being destroyed. Even though ALF isn’t supposed to hurt anybody, they burn down the building, making somebody lose a job and not be able to support the family until they find a new job. These acts of sabotage are harmful to us people too; there might have been a new invention making our life easier in some way. Whenever an act of vandalism from these groups happens, it hurts a lot of people and the worst part is, the groups are proud of themselves for what they have done. They may have saved a part of the planet, but they don’t keep in mind how many families are being affected.

In my opinion environmentalism is going too far when people are being hurt in the process of saving the planet. Nobody should be harmed if we really want to make a change because there is always a solution for both sides. The problem is finding that solution and stopping the conflict. Groups such as Greenpeace are doing a great thing since they are acting in a peaceful way and also trying to save the environment unlike extremists.

In conclusion I would have to say that there will always be some kind of extremist group just because of how we, as human beings, are. There will always be some crazy people that want to harm someone, or something and have the excuse that it was for a “good cause”. I am all for saving the environment, just as long as nobody gets hurt in the process.

This is what I think about the world.

We are crazy, we are animals but we forget it that’s all. All we’re doing.. We are destroying something that made us, it’s as bad as killing your parents. I think the world would be better without the humans. What are you thinking about this? Some images to let you think……

One of the first Atomic Bomb… Why? A test.. People who did it should be jailed!

A forest before

And a part of it after. Would they be more in security in the forest? Maybe..

Is this our dream? Do you realize that you pay for something that it’s already yours? You are working harder and harder only to earn a part of it and to pay stuff that should be yours. You pay for a part of the planet when you pay for a field to build a house.

this :

Or this :

What made you crying? Maybe the second? Both are lifes. Think a bit about that example.

How did you react when you read this?
