It’s a popular notion that letting kids play with toy guns teaches them to be violent. This applies especially to boys, as only a few girls like playing with toy guns. But has the toy guns theory ever been proven through evidence linking such childhood play to a later life of crime? Actually, it hasn’t. But many (not all) remember the impact of this thinking on us as kids, cramping our style, needless to say. Some parents wouldn’t buy their kids toy guns for this reason, and whenever they caught their kids playing cops and robbers, brandishing their makeshift “weapons,” they would scold, fearing the children would grow up to be criminals.
