Turning your office into Halloween mode.

It’s the time of the year where we dress our kids and ourselves into fairies, ghost, vampires, witch and anything scary and cute. And this time we’re coming into the office. But we can’t come into this office right?

So it’s time for a makeover!

First let’s prepare the materials:

We’ll need art papers, colored papers, yarn, pillow fillings or cotton, egg shells, white paper, garbage bag, tape, watercolor, marker pen, scissors and cutters.

Since we’re into recycling, we will use used carbon paper and scratch paper for white paper, old pillow for pillow fillings, and leftover art and colored papers.

After some creative planning we have come up with the designs and here are the finished products:

In this, we use garbage bags for the tree, yarn for the spider web, pillow fillings for the web effect, carbon paper for the spider, and colored paper for the grass.

We use orange colored paper glued on carbon paper for the jack o lantern and black colored paper for the bats.

White paper for the big moon, nice effect on off lights.

We crumple some paper and colored it with watercolor for the 3D effect on the hand. This is inspired from Plants and Zombies game.

The coffin is made from plastic garbage bag and the bats are cutouts from the carbon paper. Since we use carbon paper which is a light material, the shadow created the feel that the bats we’re perching.

Why are they looking at me?

It’s now time to give the kids and kids at heart their treat. Happy Halloween!

People are so excited when Halloween comes specially the kids. This is the time where they can wear different kinds of costumes and enjoy the treat.

Halloween is special to kids because they can wear the Halooween costumes they love to have. Not only kids but also the adults enjoyed the event. In the Philippines, people have different way of celerbating Halloween. They are not focusing on what costume to wear and what treat they can get. Halloween to most Filipinos is the day to commemorate the death of their loved ones. You can see all the cemetries all over the country full of people on that day. They were there to pay a special visit to their loved ones, relatives and friends who are now on their graves. They will offer flowers and candles and even prayed for their souls. Most of them are staying overnight in the cemetery with their loved ones.

Halloween is one of the most awaited holidays in the Philipines because most of the people who are working away from their hometown will go back home to spend time with their loved ones specially those that are on the graves. Their holidays will usually start on the 29th of October up to the 2nd day of November. Most schools dismissed early on Thursday the 28th to give chance to students who are living far away from home to travel and spend time with them on Halloween. Not only schools but offices and other stablishments were on the go for the celebration and most are closed.

You could just imagine the traffic jam on highways near cemeteries everywhere in the Philippines during Halloween. In most areas where there are lots of people, police officers were delployed to maintain the peace and order in case some unpleasant happenings occur. You can see different kinds of vendors in the entrance of the cemeteries. They were selling different kinds of flowers and different colors and sizes of candles for these are the items that people would offer to the graves of their loved ones. It is very touching to see the people parading with flowers for their loved family member on the grave who can never see what they were doing. But anyway, that is their way of celebrating the Halloween in the Philippines. They call the first and second day of November as All Saints day and All souls day repectively. This is also the time of family reunions because most family members who are living far away would come home to visit the graves.

Though Halloween is on of the most fun times of the year for both children and adults alike, it can also be dangerous. Here are some tips for staying safe.

Trick-or-Treating

- If you have kids who are trick-or-treating, follow these safety guidelines: Trick-or-treat Safety Tips: Keep Your Kids Safe on Halloween

- If you are passing out candy, don’t let strangers into your house, even if they are children.

Costumes

- Make sure all costumes are flame resistant, whether it is your child’s costume for trick-or-treating, or your Halloween party costume.

- You should also be able to move freely and comfortably in your costume.

- For women, you may want to reconsider that super sexy outfit, especially if you will be drinking. Men may see it as an opprotunity to take advantage of you.

Halloween Parties

- Again, be careful and smart when choosing a costume.

- Don’t drink too much.

- If you do drink, don’t drive. This is especially important if there are trick-or-treaters out.

Decorating

- Don’t let children carve their pumpkins alone.

- Don’t use real candles inside of Jack-o-lanterns, especially if they will be left unattended for any period of time.

- Make sure all decoration displays are safe. No real knives or sharp obejects, etc. Just use common sense.

Other

- Don’t eat candy corn. You’ll probably get sick!

Now one of the Peanuts Gang’s television classics, "It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," has become the true sign that Halloween is near when it’s broadcast each year. Linus in the pumpkin patch waiting for the arrival of the Great Pumpkin, Snoopy waging air war with his old arch rival the Red Baron, and Charlie Brown's repeated lament, "I got a rock," have all become part of the Halloween spirit.

The first Halloween special to be produced and animated by Bill Melendez, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brownwas initially broadcast on October 27, 1966, on CBS. This charming and highly entertaining tale begins with Linus van Pelt writing his annual letter to The Great Pumpkin. Despite Charlie Brown’s disbelief, Snoopy’s ridicule (ala hilarious laughter), Peppermint Patty’s assurance that the Great Pumpkin is not real, and his sister Lucy’s violent threat to make her brother stop, all Linus can do is voice his dismay in his letter that “more people believe in Santa Claus than in you.”

On Halloween night the Peanuts gang, including Linus’ biggest fan Sally Brown, goes trick-or-treating as usual. On the way, they stop at the pumpkin patch to tease Linus for having been foolish enough to miss the festivities last year, but Linus remains convinced that the Great Pumpkin will come this year and even manages to persuade Sally to wait with him–but not before asking the gang to sing pumpkin carols. The gang goes on their merry way to collect candy, leaving Linus and Sally to their own devices. (Good Grief!)

Some of the more humorous yet heart-touching moments during this classic animated television special occur while trick-or-treating, when everyone else gets assorted candy, apples, gum, cookies, money, and popcorn balls, while Charlie Brown repeatedly gets a rock, as if everybody knows who he is under his ghost costume and is rewarding him just for being him. After tricks-or-treats and another visit to the pumpkin patch to talk to Linus and Sally, the gang then heads off to Violet Gray’s Halloween party.

Meanwhile, World War I Flying Ace Snoopy, in full uniform, climbs aboard his trusty Sopwith Camel (his doghouse), to engage his old nemesis the Red Baron in battle. After a fierce fire-fight which forces Snoopy to ditch his plane, he crawls his way across the countryside, briefly showing up at Violet’s Halloween party, and then goes to the pumpkin patch to make mischief. One very cool scene occurs when Linus sees Snoopy’s ominous shadow rising from among the pumpkins, believing it’s the Great Pumpkin finally finding his pumpkin patch “worthy,” and then proceeds to faint. When Sally discovers that it’s only the mischievous Snoopy, she regrets missing “tricks-or-treats” and the Halloween party, and threatens to sue Linus for ruining her fun.

As Sally joins the other kids to make the best of what’s left of Halloween, Linus is still convinced that the Great Pumpkin will show up, and vows that he will put in a good word for them–accidentally saying if the Great Pumpkin comes, instead of when. When he realized his great faux pas, he exclaims that he is doomed and that even one mistake can cause the Great Pumpkin to pass him by.

Hours pass and Lucy wakes up at 4:00 to discover that her brother isn’t in his room, so she goes out to the pumpkin patch and discovers him shivering under his blanket. Walking the downhearted Linus back to his room, she takes off his shoes and covers him before storming out of his room in disgust.

The next morning we find Charlie and Linus at the rock wall talking about the previous night’s events. When Charlie tries to console Linus, he angrily vows to him that the Great Pumpkin will come next year, assuring loyal Peanuts Gang fans that The Great Pumpkin Patch will be revisited next year!

Throwing a Halloween Party for kids can be a lot of fun and it doesn't have to be expensive either. Here are some tips and resources to help you throw a traditional Halloween Party! Maybe like the ones that you remember going to when you were a kid!

Halloween Party Invitations

When you are putting together a Halloween Party make sure you keep everything hush, hush — as secret as possible. Each guest that you send an invitation to should be bound to secrecy. Your Halloween Party really starts with the invitation. So your invitations should be carefully thought out and scary. After all they are what sets the stage for your event.

If you have the time and just a little bit of talent, the whole family can have fun making your own spooktacular invitations. If you don’t have the time take a look at the Free Halloween Party Invitation templates that I have designed for you. All you have to do is download them, fill in your details and then print them out. To make them even more terror-ific, you can use some of these Free Halloween fonts that I found for you! You’ll probably want to use your own words, but here is a short example, to give you some ideas to get you started.

“This invitation must be kept completely secret. All the Witches, Ghouls and Ghosts will gather with their Fairy friends, Elves and Hollywood Stars to hold High Carnival at my house (1234 Scary Grove, Sunday, October 31st at 8:00 o’clock in the evening. Come in you favorite Halloween Costume and prepared to face your fears, test your fate and have lots of fun playing Halloween Party Games.”

Traditional Halloween Party Decor

Halloween now rivals Christmas in popularity. In our era of techno magic, Halloween decorations have become frightfully advanced. The witches, ghosts, and goblins that you see decorating porches and lawns have become electrified, inflatable and even holographic. On the Halloween you will see eerie figures soar up into the sky! They even shriek on cue scaring those who pass by.

With all this advanced technology, Halloween has become scarier and more expensive as well. But, you don’t have to spend a fortune. Decorating your home for a traditional Halloween Party can be pretty fairly inexpensive and fun. Here are a couple of suggestions that will help you save money and capture some of Halloween’s old time charm.

Once you have decided whether you are going to hold your Halloween Party indoors or out, choose the best place for the children to play their Halloween Games. This area should be made supper spooky and decorated with as many Jack-o’-lanterns possible. You don’t have to just use pumpkins, in the old days Jack-o’-lanterns were also made from apples, cucumbers, squash and turnips. They are quite easy to make and the whole family can join in! You can also find lots of free templates online.

Y you can even make some wild Jack-o’-lanterns from small boxes or even shoe boxes. Of course you don’t want to use candles in these because that would be a fire hazard for sure. But you can use a small light to bring them to life. Paint the box black, and cut holes for eyes, nose and the mouth on all four sides of the box. Then cover the holes with red or orange tissue paper and your all set.

Autumn leaves, branches and straw, if you can get it, can also play an important part in you Halloween Party decorations. For example, if you plan on holding your party inside, decorate the room with autumn leaves, yellow chrysanthemums and strings of cranberries hung in the corners. No Halloween Party decor is complete without spider webs, and again you can make these yourself out of string or thread, but if you would prefer you can find a lot of inexpensive decorations online.

A traditional center piece for your table is much easy to make than you might think. Just get a large pumpkin, cut of the top and fill it with water. Now you have a cool pumpkin urn. Get a large bunch of yellow chrysanthemums and golden-rod flowers to put in it. To add some extra Halloween cheer scatter Bay leaves all over your table as well.

Make sure to have some ghost and Fairy stories prepared and plan some fun magical games, like ducking for apples, planned for the evening!

Keep the room in total darkness, except for the light given by the Jack-o’-lanterns and when your guests begin to arrive give them a spooky surprise! For example — you could have someone dressed as a ghost. The clincher is, that this GHOST has his hands covered in wet salt, so your unsuspecting guests, will get a shock when they shake his hand!

Find out how to put together and survive a great Halloween party.

It’s soon to be that time of year again when many will be asking “What are you going to be for Halloween?” It can take some careful planning for grown-up goblins to put on an unforgettable Halloween party for their little goblins. Here are some tips to get your ideas brewing to make you the most spook-tacular mom and dad on the block.

A theme is your starting point to be able to put together the ultimate Halloween party. It can be a simple one with traditional orange and black motif or it can be a more elaborate party such as a Monster Mash theme with a graveyard in the yard and a table disguised with food much like a monster operation. Make sure you start with a central theme and then expand from there.

Continue planning with a guest list once you know your theme. The decisions you make with activities to decorations and food, largely depends on the age of your guests. If the guests are under 6 to 7 years of age, make sure you do not make the party too scary or ghoulish.

Next are the invitations. Remember this is the fist impression guests will get of the party to come. Have the invitations reflect the theme of the party and be sure they spark excitement.

Get as wild and creative as you like since Halloween is supposed to be over the top. If time and money are not an issue, you could plan a frightening celebration by using bargain basement decorations or decorations that require rental fees. Simple is always good too especially for the little ones. Spider webs in doorways are instance masterpieces. Stock up on tea light candles for effect, turn all your picture frames in your house at a slant. Stretch cob-webs all along the frames in the home. Try not dusting the house for a month before the party- if you dare!

Black lights are always a hit as are flowing black and orange streamers from ceilings. For party favors glow-in-the-dark trinkets are fantastic. Keep in mind a few bold statements have more impact than many smaller ones. Insert synthetic black roses randomly throughout your front yard and cut the buds from a few of them.

What to do during the party? Set up a few different stations if you plan to have a fairly large group of guests. One station could be a story time with a spooky read and another could be where the group does the Monster Mash.

Food is a huge part of a Halloween party. Lil Smoke sausages can create “Monster Toes.” Complete the toes with ketchup. Hot dogs can be used to make “Wiggly Worm Sandwiches.” Call fruit punch “Witches Brew” and make brownies as “Graveyard Pie.” Use food coloring such as ghoulish green whenever you can. Use your creativity and your best imagination for food ideas.

Make ghostly pops by placing a piece of white tissue over a lollipop to form a ghost. Tie the tissue with a ribbon to create the head of the ghost. Draw black eyes on the ghost pop with a marker.

Halloween Spider Cookies are always a hit. Split an Oreo cookie and place three strips of thin red licorice across the frosting. Allow about 2 inches to hang out for the legs. Spread a bit of frosting and place the Oreo back together. Place 2 small dollops of frosting on the edge of the Oreo and place 2 chocolate chips or red hots for the eyes.

A good Halloween party takes a bit of planning so try to start early and give yourself enough time so you can enjoy the process. Your party is sure to be the best.

Halloween is just around the corner. Children and parents are probably occupied looking for horror costumes and Halloween decors. But did you know that Americans alone spend billions of dollars on Halloween costumes, decors, candies, and pumpkins every year? Imagine all the Halloween wastes after that.

Everyone should enjoy this special occasion, including Mother Earth. Celebrating a “green” Halloween is not really difficult. Here are some suggestions.

Recycle, recycle, and recycle. Always recycle your old Halloween costumes and decorations. It is not advisable to buy new stuffs. If your kids need costumes, borrow from friends and relatives instead of purchasing brand new ones.

Image via Wikipedia

Be creative. Explore your creativity by designing or making your own Halloween costumes /decorations using old newspapers, magazines, and other bio-degradable materials. Don’t throw your old Holloween stuffs, some can be transformed or can be used as component of your new project. And always involve your children in this task; your kids will definitely enjoy it.

Image via Wikipedia

Healthy treats. Instead of the usual chocolates or candies, try serving healthy treats like biscuits and cold organic juices. This will be a refreshing welcome for tired trick-or-treaters.

Image via Wikipedia

Leftover pumpkin . Explore your culinary expertise. Don’t throw those pumpkins that you used as Halloween ornaments. Use them for making pumpkin soup or for baking pumpkin bread.

Image via Wikipedia

Electronic Cards. If you plan to host a Halloween party, use e-invitation cards instead of expensive paper-based cards. You can also greet your friends using e-Halloween cards which you can download for free or you can just design your own using simple computer software.

Image via Wikipedia

As a final note, going green is no longer optional. You can make your Halloween fun and festive without creating too much waste or using too much energy/resources. The above tips are simple ways to help our environment and a sure way to save you money.

Big fan of Pirates of the Caribbean or the haunting tales of Blackbeard? Then create a swashbuckling atmosphere at this year's Halloween party using a few simple tips and decorations.

Ahoy, mateys! Set sail this Halloween to a swashbuckling adventure party — courtesy of a few easy tips that will transform your Halloween celebration into a sword-crossing, treasure-hunting adventure this year, from decorations to costume ideas.

Skull Jack O’ Lanterns

Light your way to the celebration with a new kind of Jack o’ Lanterns — grinning skulls! Instead of traditional orange Connecticut Fields pumpkins, try using White Lumos variety, a medium-sized white pumpkin perfect for carving a skull-like face. Use a knife to cut your gaping eye holes and jagged missing-toothed grins — a pumpkin carving kit will help you cut smaller details for accuracy. Once finished, light a row of grinning skulls using a string of low-watt or low-heat clear bulbs and line your driveway, porch, stoop, or other greeting site for guests.

Treasure Chest

Old wooden crates are hard to come by unless you live near a warehouse or lumber yard, so create your own using cardboard, paint, and black markers. A bottomless form lets you set them easily over drink coolers or snack trays so your guests have to lift the lid to survey the tasty “treasures” inside. Add a few rust-painted locks to each lid for effect.

Quick Costumes

If your guests aren’t coming in costumes of your own, you can provide a few quick “dress up” items for the young (or young at heart) attendees. Fill one of your cardboard “treasure chests” with speckled handkerchiefs, striped sash-length fabric, fake eye patches and beards, maybe even a stuffed parrot or two. Cheap costume items are easy to find at dollar stores, retail outlets, and novelty shops — but you can make your own if you prefer. Cut swords from sheets of heavy cardboard and paint them black or cover with cheap aluminum foil. Use paint, glue, and feathers to transform an old straw hat into a broad-brimmed pirate’s bonnet worthy of Hook himself.

Hearty Snacks

Paste labels over your soft drink bottles, transforming them into pirate-worthy beverages like “Rich Rum”, “Bottle o’ Whiskey”, or other creative titles. While tiny sword toothpicks add a pirate touch to your appetizers, you can make a few simple recipes that will go perfectly with your party theme. Transform deviled eggs into yellowed eyes by placing an olive half in the center of each one; mix jewel-like Jolly Rancher’s with gold coin-like butterscotch candies in a “treasure bowl” (vanilla sandwich cookies work well as gold coins as well). Make a sea-storm punch using blue Kool-Aid, ginger ale or sprite, and lime sherbet (float a miniature ship on top if desired).

Be creative and choose decorations and snacks that best suit your favorite parts of pirate lore — a unique pirate-themed Halloween party is sure to be a hit with adventure fans of all ages!
