If you are a writer, here's a chance to make some good change off of the internet...

It begins on Friday 17th February, 2012, and it lasts all of 10 days. No, you cannot make submissions afterward, but those ten days are days during which you have the chance to win yourself some two hundred and fifty dollars! That’s right – it’s $250; you don’t get a chance like this every day – not for merely writing!

So, what’s it about? It’s a citizen journalism contest hosted by publishing website Helium in collaboration with partners online US news company focusing on international news, GlobalPost; and UniversalGiving, the San Francisco-based online nonprofit org, focusing on international fundraising for charities throughout the world. Theme is titled “Haiti’s Earthquake: Two Years After,” and everybody has multiple opportunities to win as they can submit up to five articles within the allotted timeframe. It will take no more than a panel of professional journalists to select the best article and determines who wins the $250 prize money! In addition, any of the selected articles will be published on the websites of all companies involved – Helium, GlobalPost, and UniversalGiving.

For more details, you can visit the helium.com website, or copy and paste this link: “http://www.helium.com/content/helium-community/global-post-universal-giving-haiti-contest-css” in the address bar.

A series of strange and apparently unfounded deletions of articles written for Helium’s marketplace occurred in January. At a time, all of the articles submitted by me got deleted despite my thorough effort to write high quality pieces. However, after doing a little research on Helium’s forum, I found out that things like this happen to many other writers too.

A quick search of Helium’s forum made me realize one thing – nothing is simple or clear on Helium. There are lots of speculations and guesses, but very little clarification and information from Helium’s staff. Actually, there is no real information regarding the deletion of articles. The matter seems so complicated that it evolved into kind of a mythology.

Inconsistency

There seems to be a lot of inconsistency around the article deletion cases and choosing articles that will get full upfront payments. Different discussions on the forum clearly show that articles sometimes get deleted for no apparent reason. It does not happen to everyone. However, it happens and nobody is able to give a clear answer, not even forum’s moderators. Apparently, well-written works adhering in all points to Helium’s guidelines get deleted on occasions. On the other hand, many articles of lesser quality than those deleted get through and their authors get transition credit or even the full upfront payment!

Nonetheless, everybody including forum’s moderators and Helium’s channel stewards is just guessing on the reasons behind these decisions. Though, I will not focus on inconsistency in awarding full upfront payments. Article deletion is my problem.

Possible reasons behind the deletion

The most apparent reason is that the article was poorly written. This might be the case for some deletions. However, I know that it was not the case in at least 3 out of 4 deletions of my articles. I checked them afterwards and there was nothing wrong with them. Anyway, the last deletion was not even accompanied with supposed reasons behind the deletion. After searching the forum, I have found out that this happened to several other people too. There also were several suggestions from experiences Helium writers and forum moderators.

Deadline – One of the suggestions was that those articles were actually submitted after the deadline for submission. It sounds crazy as titles are supposed to close for further submissions as soon as the deadline is reached. A glitch in program behind the marketplace could make it possible though. This reasoning would also explain why my articles were deleted so fast and one of them even without any further explanation. After all, I submitted all of them on the last day. It is possible that those titles should have been taken off by the time I posted my articles.

Mysterious editors - several writers on the forum were talking about some mysterious editors that are behind many deletions of articles on Helium. Stories of editors seems kind of like a myth to me though. Nobody knows their identity and none came forward to this day, but they are supposed to be in charge of random checks and deleting articles on marketplace before the rest gets to be read by Helium’s staff and the winner of full upfront is chosen. Anyway, in such a case, some anonymous persons who do not have to provide any real reasons decided to delete my articles apparently just because they do not like something about me (probably was the same person in all cases).

Human failure – another possible reason is that people checking the articles were tired/confused/angry/whatever when they were reading/skimming through my articles. Negative feelings would explain why they deleted my articles that were of the same quality as those that got through. I submitted them on the last day possible. Many people do that and so there might have been too many articles for them to check. It is also possible that someone just picked my name and put it in auto-delete box for marketplace. That would be tragic as I would not be able to get any upfronts from now on. Anyway, auto-delete thingy really exists.

I read a discussion where some writer was complaining about his article getting deleted over and over again even after he made all the required corrections. The reason behind this (according to several channel stewards) was that person who deleted his article before left his name in auto-delete for that title. So, our articles can get re-deleted (and probably also deleted for the first time) from Helium even when there is no real reason for that to happen.

Conclusion

Searching the forum did not provide the answers I needed. However, it gave me several suggestions. Personally, I think that at least in three cases, my articles got deleted because I submitted my articles a bit too late. Though, mysterious editors and their incompetence or failure of other people might be behind the strange deletions of my articles as well as articles of many other writers too. Just to clarify, the reason for most of those deletions was bad grammar. I re-checked those articles several times and there were no mistakes that would justify deleting my articles (actually, I found none at all), especially after I have read accepted articles containing many serious mistakes. Anyway, I decided that I will further test the new Helium’s upfront payment system next few days by submitting as many good quality articles as I can write. Though, I will write to the titles that have at least 3 days left on them. If none of them (or only low percentage) get through, then I will know that problem lies somewhere else.

Some people still have dreams, but are limited to thinking only. This article offers ideas to people on how to get started to make dream comes true.

(A cloud in a ready to jump pose)

Many people once have dreams. Some manage to believe dream will come true. They live and die with their dreams. Whereas, some people drop them in the life time and do not bother to have a new one anymore. Which type you belong to?

I used to have many dreams. Some indeed came true. However, the increasing life experiences teach me to be more realistic. I do not have the resources to make all dreams come true. It is essential to edit the dream list, focusing on the most critical one first.

What is your dream?

To answer this question, people need to be honest and understand themselves well. Once the dream has been identified, move to the next stage.

How to start?

Seldom will a dream come true without one’s effort. Many people wasted too much time in thinking solely. Plan, take actions and modify are the three basic tasks to have a dream come true.

Planning help specifies the map, steps, time frame and goal. Take action according to the plan and be brave to try. The trial and error is a vital input to modify the plan. These three elements work like a cycle continuously until dream comes true.

After all the efforts, the rest falls on luck.

Where to start?

Take writing as an example. If your dream is to be a writer that has books published, start by writing articles. Write in Triond, Helium and other publishing web sites. Go further to write blog and for freelance jobs. All the inputs aim to build a sound profile that gives the writer a higher opportunity to publish his / her books in the future.

What can be done?

Practices make perfect. So, keep on writing. One day there will be enough articles to compile into several different books. Quantity is to be achieved.

Quality is equally important. This can be achieved by receiving comments and editing one’s work successively.

Make good use of the non-writing time. For example, participate in articles marketing to let more people read and comment on one’s work, read high quality books and articles to sharpen one’s pen.

Be patient, persistent and never lose hope. When you find confidence is at the stake, try other relevant options. Do not let the current difficulties blind you in planning the future.

To have books published, the writer has to learn more about different publishers and keep a keen eye on the market trends. Always update yourself to be more ready in proceeding.

If you still want your dream comes true, grasp the ideas aforementioned and get started for your own one. Good luck.

Want more money. Some sites to help you get started.

Numerous people seek some sort of success. We find ourselves clamoring for the attributes of the wealthy. We want the money.

Songs are written by the thousands and some of them will make millions. Often the work is done in some small room or over looking a patch of open space. We who write know the labor we put in daily. We may construct our information over a few hours each day. Others slug away at a blog or a tweet. There is always Face book and You Tube to keep us up on every trend floating around out there. And some have become famous on You Tube like Justin Bieber. Whose own mother saw some raw talent and decided to market her son. Had she sat back and never used this forum he may still be unknown. Then there are those sales ads. With multiple eye candy attracting us to buy anything and everything. They were created by someone who was compensated to do the work.

Have you ever met anyone who says, “I don’t need money I can handle what ever life gives me without it.” We might have thought this way when at home with our parents in a safe environment. But there are those who had no safety at home or out in the streets. Eminem who told his story through lyrics that taunt even the most creative writers. Has become so rich and famous his child will never want for anything material.

We have such a reliance on the system of money if and when it fails us we can not believe it. Or we try to figure out what to do without it. Some of us revert into barter mode.

I doubt any one who sings professionally and knows they are talented is telling themselves, “I can live a life of a pauper and I will be fine.” Can you think of anyone who does not want more money?

Money has such an advantage to being poor. When I was a bit younger we ate a lot of beans. This was our stable every day because they were cheap. Ever since that time money and I have had this relationship. If I have it I spend it. And when I don’t have it I feel like I am going to die without it.

Perhaps you have tried to flame your own desires for more income. A blog, a web site selling every thing under the sun.

We can sign up with Amazon and Google for ad revenues. And who doesn’t want money. For professional writers or those who aspire to be getting paid a few cents for work we feel deserves far more is a defeating experience. Another example is in taking an interview with a company that is a muti-billion dollar revenue maker. You think you will be compensated more adequately.
Abnormal Psychology.

Abstract

Abnormal, to me means something that is different from the usual. This is the opinion that most of the people in this world also hold. If we look at it from a broader perspective, keeping in mind the field of psychology there are many aspects of abnormal psychology that most people are unaware of. Many people are of the view that abnormality is something that cannot be helped or cured. In reality psychological abnormality, which consists of several disorders, is something that is extremely broad and has various aspects that should be studied. My term paper will cover this branch of psychology known as abnormal psychology. It will cover exactly what abnormality is, its various causes and forms, the various perspectives towards this branch, the different form of disorders and lastly the treatments available to cure them

The term ‘abnormal’ generally means deviating from the social norms and behaviors that are acceptable in a society, to behaviors that are unacceptable and hence termed as ‘abnormal’. In the past the causes for abnormal behavior were not known and so people offered different explanations for this kind of behavior. The definition of abnormality and abnormality itself may differ across different cultures and religions One of the most common reasons for abnormal behavior from the religious point of view was the possession by evil spirits and demons. It was also said in the past that moons and stars also led to abnormal behavior. Hippocrates (350-450BC) was the first to point out the abnormality could be treated as any other disease. Today we see that on the broad spectrum of abnormal psychology there exists a wide range of disorders. These include personality disorders, mood disorders, schizophrenia and many more. There are many causes for the existence of these disorders and various treatments and therapies are available to help people that are suffering from these disorders.

Various perspectives are presented by different psychologists for behavior that is abnormal. The clinical perspective which is more often called the biological perspective terms mental disorders and mental illnesses. The causes of these mental illnesses are chemical imbalance, neuroanatomy and infection. Neuroanatomy states that mental illnesses develop due to ageing when there is memory loss and difficulty dealing with new situations. This occurs due to changes in higher parts of the brain and causes a defect in the anatomy of the brain which in turn results in mental illnesses. Other medical explanations point out that mental illnesses occur when there is an excess or a deficit of different chemicals. For example schizophrenics have a higher level of dopamine (a neurotransmitter) in the brain. In the past ancient Greek and Romans also attributed abnormality to chemical imbalances in the brain. Combined with these factors genetic factors also attribute to mental illnesses and abnormality. Twin studies show that twins usually have the same genes and so if one twin has a mental illness there are chances that the other twin is likely to have it too. The same can be said for people belonging to the same family. If there are several members in the family who have a mental illness there is a possibility that it can be passed on to other members of the family also. The psychodynamic or the psychoanalytical perspective developed be Freud states that abnormal behavior is due to unconscious unresolved conflicts which dated back to childhood and were responsible for disorders such as hysteria. Freud pointed out that poor early relationships and traumatic experiences in childhood resulted in psychological abnormality. He believed that childhood traumas remained in the subconscious which created emotions that could later on result in disorders. The behavioral perspective suggests that abnormal behavior can be due to ineffective learning or the inability to learn proper behavior. Cognitive perspectives shows how people perceive a certain problem, how they react and diagnose the problem and then generate a particular response. In short it is a study of mental processes. This is why abnormal behavior can be caused when a person does not perceive a particular problem properly and so his/her behavior is largely based on false assumptions and hence termed abnormal. Socio cultural factors are also responsible for the existence of abnormal behavior. As stated behavior it may differ across cultures. What is seen as normal in one culture can be seen as abnormal in another. For example anorexia and bulimia are disorders which are more likely to be found in Western cultures.

Psychology is also seen as abnormal because of the 4D’s attached to it namely deviance, distress, dysfunction and danger. A person deviates from the social norms in a society to norms that are not acceptable. The cultural values of the society are ignored and the person then turns to behavior that is now seen as abnormal. He/she is excluded from the society because of the fear that a deviant subculture might develop in that society. Distress also causes pain and discomfort which in turn leads to abnormal behavior. Dysfunctional behavior interferes with the daily routine of an individual and is abnormal. At times a person engages in dangerous behaviors which are seen as harmful to other members of the society and so the behavior then becomes abnormal behavior is classified according to the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder). It was introduced in 1952 and it said that the behavior was classified as abnormal based on the signs (observations of a patient’s physical or mental disorder), and symptoms (patient’s description of the mental disorder). The DSM-1V-TR is further classified into 5 axis.

· Axis 1-particular clinical syndromes

· Axis 2-personality disorders

· Axis 3-general medical conditions

· Axis 4-Psychosocial/environmental factors

· Axis 5-global assessment of functioning

Though the DSM model is of significance there are issues regarding reliability and validity which leads to some disadvantages of this model. Firstly the DSM is anchored in American system of values and does not give preference to other cultures. It does not account for variations in cultures and the differences in systems of disorders among different cultures. Secondly it also fails to take into account etiological factors that influence a disorder. The DSM sacrifices validity for the sake of reliability and it also looks at the surface phenomena while ignoring other phenomena that result in psychological abnormality.

An important point that should also be taken into account is the difference between physical and mental abnormality. Physical abnormality consists of deformations in any part of the person’s body that makes him/her different from others and they are hence seen as abnormal. An example of this can be conjoined twins. Though these people are perfectly normal intellectually it is their physical abnormality that makes them different from other people. Mental abnormality is different from physical abnormality in the sense that people with such abnormality lag behind intellectually but have no physical deformity. Such individuals suffer from anxiety depression and other forms of stress as they believe that they are not accepted in a particular society because of being physically or mentally abnormal. Also at times the family offers lack of support to these individuals which further become a source of distress and depression for them. The individuals feel neglected and so are subjected to certain disorders such as eating disorders and depression. These people then need help to overcome these disorders and so are referred to different psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors etc

Many forms of treatment are available for these individuals. One of then is psychotherapy which enables the therapists to come into contact with an individual and help them live a normal life. These people are then given a hope that their life can change. Psychodynamic therapies included dream analysis to help people look into the unconscious conflicts and solve them. Behavioral therapy involves helping people to change their behavior through exposure, social learning skills and other relaxation techniques which enables them to lead a normal life. Apart from these individual therapies there are group therapies too in which individuals come into contact with people who are suffering from the same disorder as them. They then have the mutual support of each other, and this helps them recover more easily and much faster than individual therapy. Apart from these there are various other methods that are used to help these patients. They are treated medically with medicines to help like anti depressant, antipsychotic drugs and tranquillizers which help them recover from disorders. Hospital based care is also extremely effective in today in which patients are treated extremely carefully and all efforts are taken to help the patients live a normal healthy life.

Thus in my opinion psychological abnormality is a branch of psychology that should be studied in detail and should not be ignored. There are people all over the world who suffer from some form of abnormality or other disorders. At times these disorders can be cured easily if the right treatment or therapy is available for the patient the right time. Every individual should make sure that people suffering from psychological abnormality are not discriminated against and that they are treated fairly in society. Levels of abnormality and what is “normal” or “abnormal” differ from culture to culture depending on the values and belief systems of that society. I think that every culture and society should make an effort to help these individuals to make them lead a normal healthy life. This can be done if every person adopts a positive attitude toward them

As Carl Rogers said:

· “When I look at the world I’m pessimistic, but when I look at people I am optimistic.”

Larry Walters had a dream and he lived it in spectacular fashion.

On July 2, 1982, 33 year old California truck driver Larry Walters, nicknamed Lawnchair Larry, went into his San Pedro backyard and put on a parachute and took his pellet gun, a CB radio, sandwiches, cold beer and a camera and then strapped himself into his lawn chair. He had already attached helium balloons to the chair and then his girlfriend and other friends filled the balloons with helium and cut the cord holding Lawnchair Larry to the ground and up and away he went.

Larry’s original plan was to simply float some 40 feet from the ground in his back yard and check out the local area from a height. Larry had been dreaming of doing this since he was 13 years old. He had always dreamed of flying but could not join the Air Force as a pilot due to his poor eyesight.

As Larry floated up from the helium filled balloons he started ascending a lot higher than he had originally planned. He did not dare use the pellet gun to shoot any of the balloons for fear of becoming unbalanced and tipping himself out of the chair. He kept rising and rising and soon achieved a height of some 16,000 feet. He slowly drifted over the city of Long Beach and caused quite a stir from people on the ground watching him. He eventually drifted into the primary approach corridor of Long Beach Airport startling a pilot who radioed the tower, “I’m starting my descent at 16,000 feet and I just passed a guy in a lawn chair with a gun.”

With his CB radio Larry alerted authorities that he was okay and did not need assistance. After being in the air the better part of an hour and starting to get really cold, Larry started shooting some of the balloons with his pellet gun. He started descending and was doing fine until he lost his pellet gun overboard and then he drifted into power lines which caused a 20 minute blackout in a Long Beach neighborhood. But Larry reached the ground in one piece and was fine. A reporter quickly asked him why he had done it and Larry replied, “A man can’t just sit around.”

Source

Larry was immediately arrested by the Long Beach Police. Lieut. Rod Mickelson said after he stopped laughing, “I know it sounds strange, but it’s true. The guy just filled up the balloons with helium, strapped on a parachute, grabbed a BB gun and took off.” Authorities were a little baffled about what to charge Larry with. Since he did not have a pilots license they could not suspend him. He was eventually charged with “operating an aircraft within an airport traffic area without proper communication with the control tower”. Larry’s response to this was to say that “If the FAA was around when the Wright Brothers were testing their aircraft, they would never have been able to make their first flight at Kitty Hawk.”

Dubbed Lawnchair Larry by the press who widely covered his story, Larry Walters received some notoriety from his flight. He received invitations from The Tonight Show and Late Night with David Letterman, was asked to do some motivational speaking and was featured in a Timex print ad. The Smithsonian asked Larry for his lawn chair to put it on display but Larry had already given it away to an admiring young fan.

Lawnchair Larry recently inspired Oregonian Kent Couch and Brazilian Catholic Priest Adelir Antonio to follow in his footsteps. Couch flew 193 miles from his home all the way to Idaho in a helium balloon powered lawn chair.

Source

Adelir Antonio was not as lucky as his helium balloon powered lawnchair flew into a storm which took him out to sea and he died.

Source

In 1993 at the age of 44, Larry Walters committed suicide in the Angeles National Forest in the San Gabriel Mountains. But he did live his dream and and when someone once asked him about the flight he said, “It was something I had to do. I had this dream for twenty years, and if I hadn’t done it, I think I would have ended up in the funny farm. I didn’t think that by fulfilling my goal in life — my dream — that I would create such a stir and make people laugh.”

Of course, many of the non-Muslims might have thought why Muslims abstain from eating pork. The reason being is that pork has been forbidden in Islam and this article is filled with detail as to why pork is forbidden.

We all know that food and drink has an effect on our health. So Islam has set limits to what food and drink we can have. The main food that Islam has told us about is to prevent eating pork due to hygiene conditions and to keep the soul purified.

Islam says that we can keep ourselves clean by doing our Salaat prayers as well as Zikr which is the remembrance of Allah and some other types of devotion. It also teaches us to get good deeds and how to prevent you from bad habits as a man has both of these types of habits.

There is a saying that a man becomes what he eats. So according to medical reports, pork is a harmful diet. Eating pork creates lowliness in character. I do not intend to be offensive to people who eat pork. This is only to reveal the reason why Islam forbids pork.

Eating something which hurts the body, hurts the soul as well because the life of a man depends what enters his body.

The food that we all eat does not just enter the stomach, intestines and become excreta. The body does actually absorb the food and it is taken everywhere in the body including the brain. If you don’t drink water for a whole day, doesn’t the head start aching? Yes it does because our brains need water and if you have a glass, you feel so much better, this is because the water is absorbed through the whole body. If the water was just to pass your stomach and go into the bladder, will your head not continue aching?

Let’s read in detail about what a pig does in its life. It is naturally lazy and eats human excreta and anything else it finds. Its body is full of diseases and this is why it should not be consumed.

It is also said that pork has more fat than any other meat! This meat takes longer to digest. 16 kinds of harmful germs have been detected in pork.

People who suffer tapeworm disease have become the highest in pork eating nations. People who are affected by these diseases usually die or recover slowly. These were pork caters!

Doctors have said that no one is protected from these diseases and there is no cure. Medicines, antibiotics, drugs are useless to kill these deadly worms.

There is no guarantee that you will stay safe when you eat pork so its better off staying away from it.

So here you have the answer to why Islam forbids pork. But if a Muslim has nothing else to eat for a living, he can consume pork to save his life.

I hope you enjoyed this article. I am a Muslim and I enjoyed sharing this with you.

Have you ever heard of a dirigible? On this day in history dirigibles made their debut in the military world. Now, almost 100 years later, they are making a comeback as the latest rage in sightseeing tours. Read on to find out more.

On this day in history, a dirigible was first used for military purposes. A dirigible is a type of airship, with a large cylindrical gas bag built of rigid aluminum or duraluminum girders and cross-girders covered with cloth, which holds a gas that is lighter than air; at that time hydrogen was used. Attached to it is a steering mechanism, a propulsion system, and a gondola for transporting people.

Invented by a Frenchman named Count Ferdinand Von Zeppelin, they were often called zeppelins in his honor. Although the Germans were the first to use a dirigible commercially in 1910, the Italians were the first to put it to military use. In 1912 they began using dirigibles for reconnaissance flights behind Turkish lines west of Tripoli.

During World War I the Germans used them as bombers on both the Eastern and Western fronts, although they never became really effective offensive weapons. As defensive weapons they excelled, however. The British and Americans both used them to patrol their coastlines and also as convoy protection.

America was the last country to stop using dirigibles in the military. They still use unmanned blimps, however; mainly for search and rescue, photographic, message relay, and mine-clearing missions. Blimps are different from dirigibles in that their airbag is non-rigid, depending on the gas to keep their shape. They are used in many capacities besides the military; primarily for search and rescue, photographic excursions, and to monitor outdoor commercial events like sports.

Dirigibles as commercial ships were extensively used in Germany between 1910 and 1914 without even one accident. They reached their peak between World War I and World War II. But as the processes for extracting helium became better, it was much favored over hydrogen as it was much less apt to blow up. Helium did not have the lift capability, though, and non-rigid airships like blimps, which were much lighter, became more popular than the dirigibles.

In 1937 a dirigible burst into flames and killed 36 people. After that their commercial use declined quickly, and no more were built until 1997, when the Zeppelin NT was built with improved technology and design that made it more maneuverable and safer. It was also designed to effectively use helium for lift instead of the flammable hydrogen.

Dirigibles are beginning to make a comeback now. A German company has built four dirigibles of the Zeppelin NT class, used for pleasure trips and sightseeing tours. Two are stationed in Lake Constance, Germany, where the company was founded. Two others spend time in different locations including the Netherlands, Japan, the UK, and just recently, one has harbored in California near San Jose.

This is an article regarding decisions about business degrees. Do you want to study Business courses? Find out some information here about them! I have also written about choosing the right course for yourself. Please remember that a right choice will result in the right direction for your future life.

This article is about taking a decision about a person’s career and what they might want to study for their future positions. However, this entire article states nearly everything about Business degrees and Business courses found in colleges.

Below are some sections I have written about including:

Knowing the serious side of education

Doing the right course

Picking a college with good reputation and education

When a person decides to study in full time education, he must think carefully about his future because it is very important. Studying at college is much more different to school and it is optional to study there. If a student wants to know or learn about business courses for his future job in life, he must take it seriously.

For the people who are new to this, they have to look at different opportunities. If a person takes a business degree, it is possible that they can become an administration manager or whatever they want to become.

Doing a course that one has no idea about what it is or not having the specific talents for that course will ruin his/her entire life. To prevent this from happening, they should be wise about the course or degree they want to pick.

Picking a school with good business programs will be very helpful. Many places might have these business programs and it might be difficult to find the very best college or university.

In order to pick a certain college or university for the course, research will be needed to ensure that a decision to go for one college does not become regretful. For someone’s research, they should go to the college opening evenings which should help you a lot. The teachers should give you enough information about the course. Look out for the best colleges by finding out what results the students had gotten for their examinations.

Asking someone in the business industry about their experiences in the job would be a good idea as well as asking them what college they had studied in for their qualifications. This will also allow you to think more freely about the business course.

A person will become very stressed and worried when it comes to a point in their life where they will struggle for their future position. However, knowing the talents they behold throughout childhood will easily give them the decision without any thinking caps.

Have you ever wondered how Coke was made? Find out here in this article about the history of soda and how it was invented.

The history of soda begins back when scientists had discovered that the bubbles in natural mineral water were caused by Carbon Dioxide.

The first soft drink that had appeared in the 17th century was made out of water and lemon juice which was sweetened by honey.

In 1767, an Englishmen named Joseph Priestly had created a man-made glass of carbonated water which was suitable to drink.

The Healthy News About Mineral Water

Image via Wikipedia

It was considered that drinking mineral water was healthy. Near around 1807, medicinal and flavoured herbs were added to mineral waters by the American pharmacist.

Customers wanted to take the healthy drinks home and from here is where a bottling industry had begun.

During this time, over a thousand patents were filed for caps, forks and lids to be used on the carbonated drink bottles. The bubbled were escaping from the bottle and inventors had tried finding ways of preventing it. However, in 1892, a cork bottle seal was patented by a Baltimore machine shop operator. This had solved the problem of bubbles escaping.

In 1899, a glass-blowing machine was decided for producing automatic glass bottles. In the past, glass bottles were hand-blown and after a few years, a new bottle-blowing machine had existed. At this time, producing bottles was slow. But after another few years, the number of bottles being produced was multiplied in huge amounts going over tens of thousands of bottles a day!

During the early 1900’s, vending machines began to appear as well as a “Home-Pak”, similar to the cartons which are made out of cardboard.

Some History of Drinks

Doctor John Smith was the creator of Coca-cola in May, 1886 in Atlanta, Georgia. Frank Robinson had suggested the name of the soft drink. He was the one who had first written the logo into what you see today. It is the most famous logo present at this time.

At the soda fountain in Jacob’s pharmacy, Atlanta, the soft drink was sold for the very first time to the public.

Around nine servings were sold each day at the time and it cost Pemberton over $70. Sales had reached a total of $50 only for the first year round. This was a total loss. However, today, more than a billion products are bought around the world every day!

So this was my article about the history of soda and the Cola drink. I hope you enjoyed this as well as learned how soda and soft drinks came to this wonderful world called ‘Earth’.
