As of December 25, 2011 at 11:00 pm EST, our earnings for the Klein family have reached $15.68, with 8,010 views thus far this month.  The total earned is now $67.33.

I thank all of you who are continuing to support this cause, I couldn’t do it without the Triond community and all the new wonderful friends I have met.

One study indicated that doing regular volunteer work, more than any other activity, proved to dramatically increase life expectancy. Taking on the role of Santa Claus or Mrs Claus is a wonderful way to get involved and help your community. It’s a great place to find out how you can help and create a little magic at the same time for you and others.

Volunteering/generosity of spirit can bring about meaningful and even miraculous benefits to both body and mind. Research from the John Hopkins Medical Institution found that you can “…slow the aging process… ” while giving back to the community. There was an interesting study done by Harvard psychologist Dr David McClelland who measured students before and after watching a film on Nobel Prize laureate Mother Teresa, for her work helping the homeless. McClelland found that even the simple act of watching a film on ’selfless service’ strengthened the immune response in the students. However, Dr Albert Schweitzer aptly said “The only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve”. Service really is an essential element to becoming truly healthy and happy.
 
So now we know it’s scientifically proven, it’s good to be good! People always ask me why I am always so happy. Although it is not possible to always be happy most of the time I am and I will share a little secret with you: When you always try to live a life of love you enlighten others lives. That means they always light up when you enter a room and are happy to see you. That makes me feel happy.

So if you want the secret of being happy here it is: What goes around comes around. When you are loving and kind with others, they will reciprocate and be loving and kind with you.

At the moment the old man out of the toilet, no matter how he remembers, he was still not able to remember his own seat. Grandfather’s old 80 became anxious, scared, and crying alone on the porch toilet. This flight attendant came to help my grandfather, the smell very much to meet the body’s grandfather. This grandfather turns out not knowing clearly where the tissue in the toilet so that he is clean it with his own sleeve. The toilet that he has used was so dirty and messy at all.

After delivering grandfather returned to his seat. The passengers around him began to complain of the stench emanating from his body. Flight attendant asked his family if they still have clothes that can be used by the replacement of this grandfather. His family said all the clothes in the trunk of a plane, that old man did not have a replacement shirt. And his family said, “this flight is not full now, I noticed a few lines of the back that are still empty, just take this old man to sit in the back.” Flight attendants can only follow the desires of his family and brought him to the back row.

Then she was locking the toilet that has been used by the grandfather of this so that other passengers do not come to the wrong toilet. Finally grandfather was sitting in the back by himself, lowered his head and endlessly wipe away the tears that kept flowing.

Who would have thought an hour later, the grandfather was already changed, with a clean body and smiled cheerfully back to his seat before. In front desk presented a new portion of food which was still warm. Everyone was asking each other who the hell was helping him? It turned out that my good friend who sacrificed her dinner time. She used a wet tissue and wipe gently to clean the body of this grandfather until clean dan new clothes borrowed from the co-pilot to replace these old clothes. Moreover, this flight attendant clean the toilets that have been used by the grandfather with her own handkerchief and spraying her perfume into the toilet.

Her colleague said she was stupid, have worked so hard to help others, not until the end there will be no people who remember and grateful. Already tired, but did not bring any benefit. She calmly and firmly replied, “There are still dozens of hours of flight, he’s old, he must have been very sad, who is hoping that the beginning of this trip could turn out this way.

Besides thirties would use the toilet, less of one toilet certainly very inconvenient. I am not only help the old man but also help other passengers. ”

After hearing this story I am very sorry for my attitude. My best friend once told me that the happiest job is a job that leads people from one place to another safely. Since hearing the wonderful experience of this good friend, I just realized that the ministry is truly a blessing to be cherished. The best way to appreciate the blessings is to share these blessings with others. This experience has changed my best friend in charge of my attitude.

Here’s a fact for you. Americans are greedy. You don’t agree I’m sure. Just a few years ago I wouldn’t have agreed with that statement either. I would say we are the most giving country. We spend billions of dollars in foreign aid, we have lots of charities helping the sick and poor. Thousands of Americans are volunteering to help others all over the world. Does that sound greedy? No. But when you open your eyes to what is to what is actually going on then you see the greed.

It’s true. America does donate a lot of money and time to many causes. But why? For the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing you made someone’s life better? Errrrrrrrr. Wrong. That’s what people say. It’s not the truth. The fact is the charities in America are simply businesses designed to make people rich. Look at any charity organization in America and you’ll find most of the money they raise goes towards business expenses and staffing. A very small percent actually helps anyone. How can this be when the people are volunteers? Simple. Only the people on the streets raising the money are volunteers. The presidents, board members, and other behind the scenes people are raking in the cash. One mans misfortune is another mans success story. It’s just business sure, but it’s bad business. Why do everyday citizens give? To do their part to make the world a better place? Errrrrrr. Tax write off. You give expecting to get something out of it. It’s normal. Everyone does it. But it’s still wrong.

As an American you are raised to be greedy. You don’t even know you’re being greedy, because it’s just part of everyday life. I’ll give you a couple examples of what I mean. How many of you are not struggling to make it on your own hoping that one day you can have a decent place to live or even a college education? Why are you in this situation? Because your parents said “Get your own.” That’s the attitude of most Americans. “This is mine. You need to get your own.” Families treat other family members this way. Horrible. You may not be able to help everyone, but it’s a disgrace to not help your own family. Parents wait until their children reach legal age, and then kick them out with nothing. Unprepared for the world, and then expect them to make it. And you wonder why the economy has problems.

How hard is it to let your kids stay with you until they are ready? To do your job as a parent and make sure that your children are ready for the world? It’s not hard at all. If you have the attitude of “Get your own.” Then you don’t need to be a parent. Get your organs snipped. You are the problem with the world today.

Another example of American greed? How many times has someone walked up to you and asked you for help and you’ve said something like “I wish I could help but I have problems of my own.”  Liar. The though that you need to get everything you want before you will even consider helping anyone else is the reason why you are  the problem with the world today.

What I witnessed in the Philippines made me ashamed of the way I had been living as an American. But I decided I would try to be a better person, and teach my fellow Americans to be better people. What did I see? People giving and helping others without any reward. In the Philippines if you donate or volunteer to help someone there is no tax write off. You literally do it because it’s the right thing to do. In the Philippines I saw people living in smaller houses without many of the luxuries that Americans take for granted? It wasn’t because they were poor. It’s a myth that Filipinos are a poor country. The reason why they live the way they do is because it is their culture to make sure that their family and friends are taking care of. If someone in your neighborhood doesn’t have food to eat, you go without that brand new pair of shoes or the new video game you’ve really been wanting. You get your neighbor some food to eat.

If every American would make sure that their neighbors had food to eat, if every parent made sure their own children were ready to handle the world, if people would just put others before themselves the world would be a better place. Stop being what’s wrong with the world. Start being what’s right with the world.

1.Stand a few feet away from the person you think needs help. Everyone wants her personal space respected. Even if she can’t see you, she can smell you, hear you, or sense that you are there. If the person is blind and using a guide dog, be sure not to pet the dog. You may be aching to nuzzle its neck, but this dog is working and should not be distracted.

2.Offer your assistance. Be straightforward. Say, “Would you like some help crossing the street?” If she says no, that is her prerogative. Be polite.

3.If the person would like help, ask her how you can best assist. Don’t make any assumptions about what would be useful. Never grab the person’s arm. She might just want you to walk beside her or carry her bag.

4.When you are safely to the other side of the street, ask if she needs any further assistance. You may ask, “Are you all set?” The person may appreciate assistance carrying heavy bags to her home. If the person is blind, she may want you to describe potential hazards in the vicinity or provide additional support.

As additional information, only individuals who are blind may carry white canes. In most countries, the law requires drivers to yield the right of way when they see a blind person’s extended white cane.

Families in which the idea of sharing and caring is made general by parents, are the very houses in which the concept of charity is encouraged later on. Charity always begins at home – then goes on to friends and the environment, which in turn exceeds to the locality, society and country and finally reaches a universal stage.    

The idiom ‘Charity begins at home’ literally means that family members are more important than anyone else, and should be the focus of a person’s efforts. That is why a home is the ‘origin’ of charity.

One’s own family, country, etc. comes before any other responsibility.  The proverb dates back to about 190-159 BC. In 1383, John Wycliffe wrote: ‘Charity should begin at himself.’ Five hundred years later Dickens said that ‘Charity begins at home.’

Actions speak louder than words, and charity is a great way to prove it. When you see the poor man seated on a tattered rug and begging money and you just feel sorry for him, it’s never going to help. Instead, going to him, offering him some money and saying a few words of utter sympathy won’t hurt you or anyone, instead it will have a lot of effect.

“From each according to his ability, – to each according to his needs” is well said. Take the example of someone having a salary more than he needs. He knows someone who needs it, and he gladly gives it to him as a gift. This is quite eccentric and seems difficult, but it is possible – it all depends on the generosity of your heart.

 Charity does not necessarily mean charity of goods. A big way of charity is expressed in generosity of service that is the easiest anyone can do, as it involves our health and strength. Helping a needy blind man cross the street, or giving your seat to the old man in the bus makes people praise you and your family background. It counts a lot as charity.

 Charity is the spirit that leads the family more and more towards faith and hope in God. It is especially the elders of the family, who have the responsibility, to keep the “fire of charity” burning in the home. And when it dwells in the home, it affects the behaviour of the upcoming generations of the family, which will eventually help the family progress and develop, both in spiritual and material terms.

 In the 3rd Millennium, in a globalized world of geopolitics, technological development and endless activities, new ways of charity are being acknowledged. There are functions, basketball, football and cricket matches, exhibitions and food stalls. All this captures the interest of spectators and in turn brings smiles to many sad faces. Nowadays, not only elders, but children also are being encouraged into having programs, having fun and yet raising money for charity. These good deeds help in later life as it makes a person popular and it has rewards – surely in the hereafter too.

 Pride is the only thing that spoils your reputation in this case. So if there is a way of dispelling your pride, it is the mere thought of how you could be the person striving to make ends meet.

 I’d like to end my essay by thanking God for making me so privileged, and blessing me with wonderful parents, who work hard to bring me up and spend patient years to provide me an easy life complete with morals and values. Giving away things in charity will show God how much you love him and his creatures – and that you are not proud of the things you have, in fact all of it is mercy and blessing showered by him upon you, which could have been showered upon someone else, instead of you.     

Personally, my causes are ending human trafficking and the decriminalization of sex work. Of course these are not the sole things I am concerned with. I will still march for equal rights for women, vote for gay rights, and partake in a number of causes. Having a main cause does not have to mean you shun others. If it weren’t for people having a main focus, things would never get done in the world. 

Having a cause that you care about ignites passion. A beautiful thing is that that passion spreads to others parts of your life. It can make a person feel alive again. There’s also the feeling of fulfillment and happiness when you do something greater than yourself. The feeling that you get from helping others is very specific and cannot come from anything else. 

There’s something else that living with a cause can give you: perspective. In educating myself about human trafficking I come across some heartbreaking stories. Yes, it’s easier to not read them or just move on but it’s impossible for me. I stop and think about these other human beings and realize that even if I have a crappy job, or am too tired to go out, or was late to my friend’s birthday party, I still have a life of my own. I still have a life that is a million times better than some of the other people’s on this same planet. It’s a humbling feeling and I’m thankful to have it. 

If you are reading this, I urge you to take a moment and think about your life. It’s not hard to find causes that pertain to your personality or interests. There’s so much information out there and directories of charities and organizations are abundant. Find something greater than yourself; find a cause.
