My experience in the classroom has shaped my opinion.

Believe it or not I had a geat teaching job in 1964 until 1968. It was that long ago. I taught in a girl’s school in Omaha, Nebraska;. My subjects were English and Spanish. I loved teaching Spanish. I expected my kids to learn and they did. My students were able to go into second year Spanish in college after they graduated with two years of high school Spanish. If ever I had trouble with students, and that was minimal, the parents were right there behind me. The principal was always behind me.

After my husband graduated from college, we had another baby and I “retired” until the need arose again for me to teach. In 1984 I went back to teaching after a couple years of substituting. It was different. While subbing I was threatened with a knife and when I called the office, there was no response. I was on my own. When I got a “real” job in a high school in Des Moines, Iowa, There was very little back-up in disciplinary situations, and when one of my students became a problem and it was likely she was on drugs, her parents were called in. Their response was: “Not my daughter” She ended up trashing a teacher’s car and threatening another. She received no discipline from the school. What seemed obvious was that the principal was afraid of the parents and the parents were afraid of their kids.

My last teaching experience was in a small town in Iowa. The same thing only worse was in place. I watered down my expectations of students in my Spanish classes. After I was at a point of expecting less than half of what I had expected in earlier years, I was asked to tone it down, that I was expecting too much of my students. In that job I was an outsider from the city, not welcomed with open arms. One of my students was the son of the local sheriff. He was an engaging kid, but lazy. I gave him a “C.” His mother came unglued. Her child had never gotten less than “A’s.” Make a long story short, that and a few other incidents cost me my job. The superintendent was the instigator. When the principal told me, he let me know that he had observed classes where the kids had studied 4 years of Spanish and couldn’t communicate. My first year students were carrying on basic conversations.

I don’t mean to complain about my experiences, but I think what I experienced is indicative of what has happened. We are coddling our children to the point that they don’t feel they need to work to gain knowledge, and in too many instances, the teachers do not have the support of their supervisors, nor do the supervisors have the support of the parents. It isn’t money we need to throw at our failing schools, it’s a sense of discipline.

This is what happens when some people help people and when people don't want to be helped.

How can I have sold over 50 eBooks now and still have no reviews? I just don’t get it! I also don’t understand my disappearing fan base on face book. I had close to 500 fans on my fan page at one point and now it jumps from 480 to 481. Is it because I write things not many people delve in? Is it because I’m not afraid to write on controversial topics and say my own point of view, regardless of subject matter? Well, I admit that would make people shy away at that point. That is probably reason enough for the disappearing fan base. Still, if you are reading this article and would like to become a fan of mine click on the following link and click “like.” It’s that simple!

http://www.facebook.com/ErinMillerArtist.Writer

For my other complaint, it involves a high school that I used to attend. How stupid can the idiots at the West Babylon High School be? I never heard of having to make an appointment to see a former teacher at a public school! What the heck is up with that? It’s a public school! I understand the safety issues for the students but come on! It’s bad enough they still make the students wear their high school ids around their necks through the course of the day, which I never understood and only happened after September 11, 2001 in which I was sitting in my 9th grade math class at that time, the twin towers were attacked. And yes, at the time I lived only one train ride away from New York City. Now I have to take two trains to get there.

My reason for visiting West Babylon High School as well was so I could get my high school transcripts mailed to a certain school. I also needed to track down two teachers so I could get two letters of recommendation. Having to set up an appointment to see two former teachers however, is utterly ridiculous, not to mention was a waste of a commute since I had to take the local train to get there. Now I have to waste more money to go back out there to track down two teachers who probably didn’t even get the memo I was required to write telling them I was there to see them. It was utterly ridiculous. Next time I won’t follow the rules and just go to the teachers and hope against hope I don’t get in trouble for the school’s stupid and utterly ridiculous “no terror” policies!

Another complaint I have is when I tell people about certain money making sites I’m on. For example, my fiverr account which is a spot where you can post up a gig you’re willing to do for 5$. After you reach a certain point in sales you go up by levels which offers you more gigs that you can make that you are willing to do for 5$ 10$ 20$ and more depending on your seller level. I think this is a pretty cool way to make a side income. Every penny counts right? Well, I helped one friend set his account up and he came up with a good idea for a gig. The gig that he came up with he had two orders for which he never completed! You would think someone who complains about not having money would actually be excited to do something that is guaranteed to make him some money until he gets an actual job and then can use fiverr on the side. However, no, that wasn’t the case at all. After he fucked up his own fiverr career he turns around to me and tells me “I don’t see myself doing those gigs on fiverr.”

What the fuck! Are you that fucking lazy? Not only that, but since I told you about it and helped you set up your gigs that is a slap across the face to me. Then the person wonders why he has no fucking money… I give up!

Another person, who I had helped set up their account after the person asked me for said information said they weren’t going to use it. I can also understand the viewpoint from said person for the following was said “I don’t want to do work for people online. It’s too easy for them to steal my work!”

I understand that to a point. However, many artists now do commissions online and offline. They go hand in hand or so one would think. Also, once again I was slapped across the face with that one!

So yes, I have decided I’m not telling anyone how I make money online sometimes. Fuck them! I’m just going to get slapped across the face. I have the people ask me “Hey can you send me some of the sites you work on?” I send them the sites and then all of a sudden, slap, slap, slap! I can’t take it anymore! Don’t ask me for those sites! Fuck you!

Again, a teacher involved in sex with students. This time, a high school teacher in the United States (U.S.) having sex with his students just as the 17th anniversary of the teenager.

Tiffany Michelle Amos (25) is a substitute teacher in high school Wesfield, Houston, USA. Bu the teacher was fired from his job after the school know terlarangnya relationship with a student.

Anyone with an IQ over 24, understands school is not that amazing. For the few that sailed through it, I hope this helps you understand how you made everyone's lives hell.

Over weight, short, metal issues, huge forehead, big butt, big nose, you name it. Anything can get you picked on in school. Kids go home crying because of bullies, some even don’t wake up the next morning. I want all you “jocks” “cheerleaders” and “populars” to understand that you are not “famous” your are in fact “infamous”. If you don’t know what that means, it means you are basically disliked.

I want you to take a look at this image. What does it look like to you? Lets break it down together. I want you to imagine it as a type of chain. A pyramid of popularity. At the top, of course, would be the advanced. The “I’m better than you in every way.” kids. The next level would be the bullies. They push themselves through the crowed, attempting to find the higher level.

The third level, also known as the “tag-along level” the kids that strive to be apart of a group, and would do anything to survive the climb to the top of the chain. Lastly the targets, “I’m different, and you can’t change me.” The kids that stand for themselves and refuse to be influenced by others. Which, is usually most of the school. They are one of the lowest levels of the chain, and are forever known as the “losers”.

Lets talk about the losers. The people who are picked on simply because they are different. They are tormented and harassed by everyone else. Some, will only cry and move on. While others, don’t move on at all. The rest, they move on to a better place.

How many kids, that you bullied, are still alive and doing well? Not very many. School torture can last a lifetime. If we got rid of bullies, then maybe we would have fewersuicides, and more happiness. Maybe, we would also have less crimes. WE can make a difference, we just choose not to.

I dare you, bully me now.

This is the second article in the series of articles I am writing use my personal experiences to give tips and advice to those going into high school- or an one else in high school or even college that just want some tips about school and how to be a better person and student.

Freshman Year of High School: Extracurricular

This is the second article to my series about the freshman year of high school. In this article I am going to talk to you about the “extracurricular” part of high school (again this applies to pretty much everyone in high school).

I was only involved in one club /organization through my school and that was theatre. I was in all three of the plays my freshman year and stayed at school until 5:00pm pretty much every day for practice. And I loved every minute of it! I acquired some of my (if not all of my) best friends through theatre. I HIGHLY recommend getting into a club of some sort, whether its a club like anime; or sports like swim or track; or organizations like student council, GET INVOLVED. It makes you a ‘more rounded student/person’ so colleges like you a little bit more, and the even bigger plus- you get a whole bunch of really close, awesome friends who you will love!

The trick is to find something, whether it is a sport or a club, that YOU will enjoy. The rest follows. If you enjoy it and the other people there enjoy it, then more than likely ya’ll will enjoy a lot of same things, giving you some really close and great friendships that start and are connected on a little bit of a deeper level.

Tip: If you hear about or have an idea for a club that your school does not currently have, talk to your administrators about it and if they approve, find a sponsor for it and voila! You have a club, it’ll be easier if you get one or two other people to help you get it started, from there see if you can get it put on the announcements for the word gets spread fast and those who want to join, can! (P.s that will ALSO look great on college applications- “I started my freshman year and then ran the _______ club all four years of high school” ß Awesome!)

The most important thing is to HAVE FUN. Don’t NOT do something because of other people, even if those other people are your friends. Be YOU, if you want to join the swim team DO IT. If you want to join the ‘Glee club’ then DO IT. It doesn’t matter what your friends say because odds are you will find other (possibly even better) friends in the clubs you wish to join. (If they are REALLY your friends they will support you no matter what.)

Also, try out a little bit of everything, if you are slightly interested in joining something, go to a meeting or talk to someone who is in the club to see what it’s like. You may be surprised!

Being a part of something makes high school SO much more fun! Makes sure to check out the clubs at your school, you can even talk to your counselors about what clubs your school has available to you and find out who you need to contact for information about them. Don’t be that kid who goes to school and then goes home. Colleges don’t like that and honestly, YOU won’t like it. High school isn’t ALL about the academics- it’s about having FUN too, and being a more ‘well-rounded person’. So ENJOY high school while you have the chance, but don’t OVERLOAD yourself by signing up for 10 different clubs, find out how many times the clubs meet a month and on what days they meet, along with for how long. Make sure they don’t conflict OR take up all of your time. You need down time and time to keep up with your school work so I recommend joining the 3-5 you want to join THE MOST. And if you only want to join 1 or 2- that’s fine! As long as you are in something and enjoying it- that’s all that matters!

Canadians have the right to freedom of speech, as long as it doesn't offend anyone.

William Swinimer, a grade twelve student in Nova Scotia, Canada wore a T-shirt with a slogan that was so offensive that his refusal to stop wearing it resulted in a five day suspension from school. It was so offensive that the school board had to get involved. This slogan was so controversial that the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) national news picked up the story.

What slogan would be so offensive that it would ignite moral indignation in Canada? This is after all the country in which a prime minister could get away with giving the single finger salute to the press, and where a political party could run in a federal election on the platform of ending the prohibition on marijuana. What T-shirt slogan would offend us? Something about giving illegal drugs to puppies, or a satanic rock band clubbing baby seals?

No, the T-shirt making national headlines today reads, “Life is wasted without Jesus.”

According to the CBC, Swinimer was told repeatedly by his school principal to stop wearing the shirt, but the grade 12 student refused to comply. He told CBC news that the principal would have accepted a shirt with the slogan, “My life is wasted without Jesus.” That would be his personal opinion. As is, the slogan is an attack on the beliefs of other students.

“But I didn’t go for that because I have my rights as a Canadian citizen.” Swinimer said. He says that he will continue to wear the shirt and is prepared to be suspended the rest of the year.

Nancy Pynch-Worthylake, the school board superintendent, told the CBC that some students and teachers found the T-shirt offensive.

“When one is able or others are able to interpret it as ‘If you don’t share my belief then your life is wasted,’ that can be interpreted by some as being inappropriate,” she said.

So, to get this straight, a slogan needs to be clearly designated as a personal opinion, or else someone might interpret it as an offense against them personally, and that would be inappropriate, so therefore wearing a T-shirt with that slogan merits a suspension from school?

Swinimer says that the T-shirt is an expression of his beliefs, and he won’t stop wearing it.

“I believe there are things that are bigger than me. And I think that I need to stand up for the rights of people in this country, and religious rights and freedom of speech.”

The school board is now looking for some guidance on the matter. It hopes to bring in an expert to help mediate the dispute with Swinimer, his family and church supporters.

“We’ll be looking for some people with understanding in this area to help us with that,” Pynch-Worthylake said.

I’m sure they will find someone. After all, Canada is a nation built on compromise, where anything is tolerated except intolerance. I’ll keep you posted.

In Indonesia schools are classified into Elementary School, Junior High School and Senior High School. They are called public schools because they are open to children and teenagers. Elementary Schools have six grades and Junior High Schools and Senior High Schools respectively have three grades. Elementary Schools and Junior High Schools belong basic education while Senior High Schools belong to advanced education. It is no wonder that almost all school-aged children between seven and fifteen years old go to school. Sending High School-aged children to schools, where boy’s and girl are of equal rights, is compulsory.

Seiritsu Gakuen Junior & Senior High School 日本語: 成立学園中学校・高等学校 (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Senior High School students are expected to continue their studies as university after they finish high school. They are expected to succeed after being tested. It is not easy to pass the entrance examination to state university or institutes.

Students who are going to a university are advised to take an intensive academic course before they start studying. Years ago families with wealth and high social status were the ones whose children got academic education. So children were likely to follow in their parent’s footsteps. Doctors’ and professors’ children were likely to gain university education as their parents did. But today there is an increased opportunity for the talented students to receive a better education regardless of their social or economic background. All bright students may have university education. Anybody has a chance to get it.

State public schools are run by the government. Headmasters, teachers and administative staff of state public schools are civil servants. The government provides money and set certain rules. Private schools are run by a school board or school committee.

Local citizens organize the school-board members who usually serve without pay. The duties of the board are dealing with all matters that will improve the education of children and the teaching condition for the professional staff or teachers. They are enganged in paticular profession. They manage the school building programme, the maintenance of buildings and the salaries for teachers.

Now, education in Indonesia takes another forms, except, the formal education, there is informal education which goes on in other settings. People are being educated all the time, learning from others and learning by themselves.

The Importance of An Education.

Long ago when your parents or probably your grandparents were growing up it was not so uncommon for a child not to finish high school or not to go further and elementary school, as for the amount of people that went to college back then was by far less than the amount today. This could have been done because many jobs didn’t not require much school also trade jobs such as plumbers, carpenters and electricians were much more easily available than today. Now thing are a bit different, it has become much harder for you to get a decent job or a job on the whole without and education.

Especially in the corporate whole this has become extremely hard and controversial. Many time you have an employee working in the business from when it starting out and can easily run the organization but most originations now require most managers and top lines employees to have degrees of some sort in order to gain a position. So even if you are competent enough or probably the best person the to the work and you don’t have a good education then the chances are you may not get the job.

Today having a bachelor’s degrees is equivalent to having a high school diploma back in the 1970’s that’s to show you how far educations has come. Now although there are many of famous movies stars, musicians, athletes and even billionaires that dropped out of college and some who never even finished high school, you still have to remember that this is just a some percentage of people that choose that life style where as you don’t hear about the other 90 percent who did not have such good results from doing so. So understanding the importance of an education is need for everyone.
