Writing Haiku with Kids

Poetry is sometimes a tough sell for kids of any age. Rhyme, meter, all those little rules of form to follow-it can sometimes be overwhelming for a student, and difficult for them to see the point. When I teach poetry I always include a bit of haiku. The rules are simple, they don’t have to rhyme and they can be about whatever the children want. It is also a great lesson to include when studying Japanese history.

With the situation as it is in America today I have decided to once again home school my grandson. There is currently a lot of talk about the Child’s Corp of Mr. Obama’s which is highly reminiscent of the Hitler days of German. I have recently heard that flu shots may be given to school children this coming year whether the parent or guardian desire it or not. In view of these revelations I feel it is best to go back to a home school environment.
