When we try to influence people ,we have three types of choices. They are ignoring, force to compel, persuade people.

HOW TO INFLUENCE PEOPLE

There are basically three choices available to you when trying to influence people. The first is to ignore people and simply hope they will act in your best intrest. You probably will agree that this is not a very practical option . Since the results can be neither effective nore predictable . By ignoring other people , you are giving up any hope of influencing them and thus are saying to the world ,” i will leave you alone and , in return . I want you to what i want “, a naive and unrealistic expectation.

The second option is to use coercion and force to compel other to act in the specific way you desire. The use of threats and intimidation may produce results, at least in the short term. Fear-including tactics, however, never , never bring out the best force behind their motivation if they are to put their hearts and in a survival mode. They may follow your instructions and orders to the letter, but seldom will they contribute any real energy or enthusiasm to their efforts.

Third option is to persuade people to do what you want them to do simply because they really want to. People what you want tehm to do willingly in direct proportion to how they see their self-intrest being served. In other words, you must convince people that they will receive real benefits and rewards if they follow the path you are suggesting . These benefits must be something the other party understands and inherently wants, for whatever reason. In effect , you are offering a reward that is to provide valued by you. The highest reward you can offer people is to provide them with opportunities to maximize their full potential.

All of us are familiar with the saying "Face is the index of the mind". How true!! When we think, it instantaneously reflects on the face. Certain people are smart enough to identify subtleties in expression as we communicate. This art of analyzing people from their external behavior is Body Language.

When we communicate, we tend to think that only our tongue speaks. This is just apparent. The truth is that each and every facial muscle, the hands and legs and the way we co-ordinate them also speak. It is said that it takes 14 muscles to smile. But it involves more muscles when we talk or listen.

The face reflects the inner thought process and what not. We never realize this while we communicate. Even if we try to hide our negative qualities like jealousy or feelings of inferiority and superiority, they do show up involuntarily in some way or the other.

The integration of all the qualities of speech and attitude is called personality. Personality is the one thing that is judged in the corporate sector. Personality development is the buzzword for student professionals and management trainers. Many institutions train student professionals the positive effects their personality can have on corporate managers. They also train students to take control over their body signals. In the technical and HR round, the companies’ HR managers consider all these aspects for employment. It, however, goes without saying that only a careful study of verbal and non-verbal communication can help us accurately interpret a person’s personality.

Certain body signs are:

Fidgeting shows restlessness and unwillingness to concentrate in what is going on.

Tapping one’s foot shows distraction, or in a positive way, it could indicate that the person is eagerly awaiting his turn to talk(during a group discussion or so).

Bending down often or looking away during a group discussion could indicate that you’re unsure of the topic.

Keeping the fists clenched might indicate that you feel aggressive about something.

Not maintaining good eye contact with all might indicate that you are unsure about the topic or that you are afraid to express yourself.

A posture where you lean forward indicates that you are engaged in the conversation and are listening to it with interest.

The key to a right posture while standing would be to keep the arms behind and pose a warm smile. While in a group discussion, it would be to sit erect, lean a little forward, pose a genuine smile, a speech that is clear and polite, head nods when you are listening to a person. Moreover, while denying a person’s view, the denial should be polite and not in a way that causes argument.

These are certain gestures involved in body language. They are just a guide that you can implement in your daily lives, attain self-improvement and impress people. For an indepth reading, I would recommend you the book, “How to Win Friends and Influence people”, a best seller by the famous writer by Dale Carnegie.
