The anti-conscience keeps trying to destroy our human conscience through absurdity, so that it may control our behavior instead of being tamed by our sensibility and sensitivity. A human being is unique in the way that he or she can feel emotions, touch, and experience things like no other. Scientifically, we are just considered mammals, but I feel there is much more to it. We are more than just the physical appearance. We are spiritually and mentally inclined. We have such a highly developed brain that is capable of so much. The things we can learn about are endless. Our bodies also allow us to make greater use of tools than any other species. We are so special.

Me, Myself, I: Narcissism and The Self as Best Practice

by R.W.Rummery in Psychology, July 5, 2010

This paper explores the concept of the self as being represented in and by the mythical Narcissus and Echo theme. Freud held that we each instinctively seek to repeat that Perfection first experienced in the “oceanic contentment” of infancy wherein a fusion of our primitive perceptions with the external world leads to our experience of ourselves as an individual, an ‘I’. This positing of ourselves leads to the formation of the ‘ego ideal’ which Lacan argues is a fiction representation upon which we form the basis of our action, communication, and subjectivity. Narcissus is an exemplification of the process of becoming an other to others; a self in relation to other selves that is based on choice. However, choice as to how to act is not always possible when one is habituated to feeling good at the expense of others.
