Experience pain, humiliation, betrayal, and even loneliness, and you will be rewarded the true beauty of life; a better person than you were before.

Ethical dilemma

We have no control of our passive circumstances. Neither have we had an accurate answer on life after death. Given the situation on being in the death row and this is going to be our last hour in life or the company you are working with gave you notice of your last day in service, what could have you been doing now? For someone who is going to be crucified, this is another story to discern. We have seen that what matters most is not the pain of whips, the pain of nails or the pain of thorns but the feeling like anyone of us could experience; the anticipation of being alone, of being humiliated, of being betrayed and that nobody might stand with us in agony. Our ethical standard puts us in the context of contemplating how to decide what is right.

Ethical dilemma or practical crosses in life caused us to stand by our belief and thoughts of which is right. Clients and co-workers and even our Boss are our practical crosses in the workplace. Students may have the dilemma in choosing the course to take, couple raising their children, the clergy facing their unreceptive community, your husband, your wife, your children, among others. A working mother considers it her cross to manage her time amidst demands of children and her boss. A husband might consider his wife as his dilemma who does not know how to manage resources while he had to struggle to earn a living. Question is: how long can we carry our own cross? How long are we going to process our ethical dilemma?

3 Test of Love

A TEST OF LOSING RESENTMENT. This is simply surrendering our life with forgiveness and love. A parent abandoning their children or a child abandoning their parents (ailing parents) is a true to life story anywhere in the world. There is that feeling of hatred, there is resentment, there is abandonment, and there is loneliness. Workers have contemporary concerns with accountability, transparency, participation, non-discrimination, devolution, poverty alleviation, competition, etc. But how are we being tested with our resentment? This is by way of embracing your cross with love and understanding. Give with compassion. One must believe that we are pushed into the dark to show us that there is eternal light.

2. A TEST TO FACE HUMILIATION. This is facing your powerful humiliation; a concern for relationships. Ethics was determined by rules from the past. Confucius had proposed a “golden rule” of caring that states: “Do not impose on others what you do not wish for yourself.” One of life’s challenges is for us to be brave enough to face humiliation and reap later the fruit of being a good person. You start to think you are good for nothing because no one ever believes in you. However, pain and sufferings are good starting points that will convert us to be a better person. The challenge on humility, the experience of death, dilemma on service goals form part of the sufferings in our life that unknowingly, the gold, the diamond, the silver in us will come out.

3. A TEST TO SACRIFICE FOR A GREATER GLORY. Sweat blood because this is the only way to reach high and be successful in life. All of us have our own garden of Gethsemane. We experience betrayal, loneliness, pain, humiliations, and abandonment. We need to reconcile values of justice and mercy, competition and cooperation, individual freedom and group loyalty. But beyond all of these sacrifices, the Lord brings us to goodness. Clients will be served equally, marketing designs are geared towards meeting the customers’ needs, and governance and public service improved its commitment for competent proficiency.

Testing personal choices

a. Integrity. Can I live happily with this choice? Am I at ease with my conscience?

b. Transparency. Am I happy for others to know what have I done? And the Media to report what I do?

c. Accountability. Do I make it a point to report to others? Can they check my reports?

d. Reciprocity. Would I feel no hurt or anger if others did the same to me?

e. No suspicion. Is the action free from reasonable suspicion?

There are many challenges in our life. Resolve ethical dilemma by way of designing outputs that meet customers’ needs and convert your attitude into a better person.

What are your thoughts on bare bottom spanking?

In my last article I was talking about should spanking be considered abuse, so I wanted to continue on that topic for this article. Spanking is a very controversial topic. I understand this and that is why I feel it is a great debate topic to write about. One of the most controversial parts of spanking aside from the action itself is taking down clothing.

Some parents believe that in order for a spanking to fully punish the child the child’s bottom should be bared. Some back this up by saying that if the clothing was left up it wouldn’t hurt enough. Some say that humiliation is part of the punishment and that this should be done for a bit of humiliation. Some religions view the clothing as symbolism for sin and that by taking off the clothes before the punishment they are removing the sin, basically stating that the sin cannot be forgiven until it is removed.

That last part makes sense and since it deals with religion I will not say that it is wrong. It actually does make sense because Adam and Eve didn’t have clothing until after they had sinned, but some believe that the clothing was used to cover up the sin, rather than the clothing resembling sin. To the first part I I’m not sure if the punishment not hurting enough is really an excuse for baring the bottom. I feel it would be enough to just take down the pants. I don’t believe that humiliation should be part of the spanking. It is understandable in young years, like before the age of 8 to bare the child’s bottom in order to watch the bottom redden, but after a few times you should be able to tell how much the child can take without having to see it.

What do you think? Is it right to bare a child’s bottom for a spanking? Should you at least leave up the child’s underwear? What about before and after puberty? If you would like to voice your thoughts on this subject, please leave a comment. I usually check my comments at least once a day.

Should public figures be held to a higher standard when it comes to their personal lives?

Anthony Weiner, Arnold Schwarzeneger, John Edwards, Mark Sanford, Larry Craig, just to name a few.

For those of you who have not been paying attention, each of these men has been involved in a sex scandal. And, while I admit to be offended and have felt duped at times, my mind isn’t made up about what consequences these men should face, if any. If illegal activities were involved, then by all means those men need to be held criminally accountable. But is public shaming an appropriate consequence? If no laws were broken, is it the public’s business to condemn, or should that be left to the family?

My first reaction is that it is not the public’s business about what goes on between consenting adults. Haven’t we all, at one time or another, done something in the name of love or passion that we have regretted later? Perhaps our excursions were not as deceitful as those of the men on the preceding list, but they were regrettable just the same. I am almost positive that we all have something buried in our past that we wouldn’t want the world to know about. I am also pretty certain that for most of us, those decisions made in the name of love or passion didn’t carry over into the other areas of our lives. We probably got up the next day and went about our lives as best we could with our new badges or dishonor safely tucked away. Our only fear was that the other person involved, or for those more adventurous than me, the other people involved would alert those in our social circles of our momentary lapse in rational thinking. But that would have been the worst of it.

I truly believe that we can make irrational decisions and still be rational people most of the time. And because of that belief I gave Bill Clinton a pass for Monica Lewinsky. I thought he was a great president, and any political issues I had with him didn’t have anything to do with Ms. Lewinsky, a cigar, or a blue dress. Yes, I was disappointed to find out that he lied to me and every other American, but to this day I don’t believe that his actions with Ms. Lewinsky affected his ability to run the country.

But then I have to think well wait a minute, all of these men, including President Clinton have lied about their scandals. To the best of my knowledge not one of them stepped up before they were caught and said, “I am sorry but I screwed up, and this is what I did.” No they didn’t and that adds deceitfulness, and deceitfulness leads to mistrust. So while the majority of us may have things in our past we may not tell anyone, we did not make the decision to live in the public eye or to represent the people. All of the men on that list made the decisions to both live in the public eye and represent the people, even if the decision to represent the people wasn’t made until after the excursion. So, I guess I am not conflicted after all. I believe that if someone wants to live in the public eye and represent the people he or she must learn to override passion and think rationally all of the time. That is why the job isn’t for everybody.

Shyness caging the talent of people and the solutions to overcome them.

Blushing is another thing, but hiding behind the curtains, biting nails, working way below your original capacity of skill range is another thing. We might be stepping into new horizons of modernity, where every girl dreams of a bikini perfect body and a list of eager boyfriends to date, to raging hormones of teenagers too aggressive to control but the fact is that it is still all related to shyness.

Shy because of an imperfect body ,imperfect skin, unsuccessful relationships, low grades at school, low income and what not. The list of imperfections in our lives is too long and so is our will to overcome them. To compensate this we adapt to a mechanism of rage or introversion, either way we shy away from our knowledge, aptitude and to do something well. Even though, most of us are competent one way or the other but the primitive, age old shyness overcomes the talents pushing us into the darkness we feel comfortable with.

The fear of being degraded and humiliated stops the cognitive process, harming the thought process, halting creativity and budding desires of achieving higher goals in life. Our deep rooted insecurities and lack of self-confidence is a quagmire we can’t get out of. Our bitter experiences account for the major part of it, something harsh happened in the past comes in our way every now and then, so we tend to shy out and retire to our shells, staying cocooned and being smaller than our true existence.

The only solution is not a 100% but still a something 40-50% achievable:

Not everyone out there is judging you, if you are bullied or abused, it is a flaw in their character and not yours.

Stop blaming yourself for a bad situation, you are not always the cause.

Speak up more often than you do, stating out your thoughts might help others to bring out more of you than they normally see.

Just remember they might be just as scared as you are to open up to them.

Your body is not your ambition in life, keeping healthy both mentally and physically is.

Failures are only ways to explore more, actually a learning process, success comes when you want it to, the key is to keep trying.

Realise your true value, your worth is understated not by anyone else but you, the brightest of you is hidden within you.

Being an introvert is being selfish, there might be something innovative about the way you think or you might be holding back a precious idea that can change the shape of the society we live in. Go ahead share it with others.

Your brain is a treasure box with a lock and you have the key to it, let go off the past, future is welcoming you.

Last but not the least, just remember there is no such thing as “superior” people. We are who we are defined by the ways we overcome our inhibitions.

Its all just A Chance Encounter...

It had been a few days since it had happened and it was the only thing on her mind, every moment she had she played the scenes from that night back over in her head. She wanted to see him again, the experience thrilled her and she wanted it to happen again. Every time she left work she was on the lookout for him-hoping he would show up and do it to her all over again. Every time she thought about it she would get instantly wet and had to run and masturbate. It was the worst when she was at work though, she couldn’t just run off and get some release. That day it was the worst though, she had woken up hornier than hell and didn’t have time to get off and by the time she got to work she was about to just say fuck it and get off right there in the parking lot-until her boss drove by. She slowly walked into work and headed for the bathrooms hell bent on fixing her problem quickly. As she started masturbating in the employee bathroom she heard someone walk in and she quickly stopped, for fear of alerting someone to what she was doing. Whoever it was didn’t stay long as she heard the door open again and shut. She peeked out over the stall to make sure the room was empty and quickly went back to work, focusing on her clit as much as possible. All the waiting for the release made it quick for her to reach an orgasm and she quickly sighed loudly before going back out to work. The day passed in what felt like a blur and she quickly walked out to her car. She reached into her pocket and withdrew her keys to unlock the doors when her boss walked up behind her
“Hey, the cameras caught someone messing around with your car earlier today.”
Her eyes grew wide, was he looking for her?
“Okay, thanks for warnin me boss.” She said as she quickly unlocked her doors and got in.
As she got in her car she saw a note sitting on her passenger car seat, but her boss was still standing off to the side. She pulled out and drove towards her house and on the way she passed a burger king that had been closed for some time now. The urge to know who the note was from was becoming hard to ignore and the thought it may be from him was making her horneyier by the second. She pulled in and killed her headlights before flipping her overhead lights on to read it.
“Have you been looking for me, kitty?” it read
She looked over it a few times before repeating what was written on it. As she finished reading it aloud she felt a hand slip over her mouth and drag her backwards. Her eyes grew wide, but she unbuckled herself and let him pull her into the back seat where he was.
“Have you missed me kitty?” he said with a smile
She looked up at him and smiled “maybe.”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a razor
“What are you going to do with that?” she asked, her voice trembling
“Your clothes, I don’t like them” he said as he ran it softly over her shirt, cutting through the thin fabric.
She tried to stop him from progressing but he reached into his pocket and pulled a pair of handcuffs out.
“Stop resisting or I will restrain you.” He said
She didn’t care, and before she knew it she was handcuffed to the door, unable to move her arms.
He pulled her shirt off and cut at her skirt, removing it quickly. She began to panic, not wanting it to continue but she realized she wouldn’t be able to stop him. He quickly cut her panties away and rubbed her vagina with his hands. Her fears melted away a bit, but they were still there. He moved up to the front seat and removed his pants and boxers before moving back to where she was. He looked at her bra and undid it instead of cutting it off
“You’re going to need something to wear when you drive home kitty” he said as he smiled at her.
“B-but what if someone notices?” she asked him
He just smiled at her and leaned down to bite her nipples, starting on her left-biting and licking soft and hard until moans came from inside her. Happy with the moans elicited from his captive he slowly bit his way down her body, leaving barely visible hickyes all the way to her vulva. As he got there he slowly licked at her clit before shoving his tongue deep into her. She couldn’t help but moan loudly. He kept eating her out, as much as she tried to resist him until she finally started having an orgasm. Her voice began rising
“Oh my god! Don’t stop! Don’t stop~!”
He kept eating her through the whole orgasm and as she slowly left the high he stopped and sat up.
“Are you ready for more, kitty?”
All she could do was weakly nod; she wanted his penis inside her vagina so badly. He took his dick in his hand and rubbed it on her vagina, gathering her moisture and his spit before slowly moving down to her ass. She looked at him, wondering what was going on before feeling a sharp pain of him pushing into her ass
“OH GOD~” she screamed, in a mix of pain and ecstasy
He pushed in deep and hard, and lowered a hand to her vagina and began fingering her. Her mind was racing from the feeling, she had never felt something like this before, her ass being filled and her clit being played with and finger fucked at once. Moans escaped from her mouth, growing louder and louder the longer he pounded in and out of her. As he started to pick up more speed he began to cum, hard and pulled out of her ass mid orgasm and shoved his cock into her vagina, sending her over the edge.
After it she blacked out from the sheer amount of estacy she felt from the two orgasms and the simultaneous orgasm they shared. When she awoke he was gone, and in the front seat was a set of clothes for her. No note, this time. She looked at the clothes with a frown on her face. Would she ever see him again?

How would you have him on the date

Some said that one way to a man to hear through his stomach. Before you learn to do what you want, you need to find a good restaurant to take her to. When you find something that will appeal to your appetite, you can use everything you’ve learned about how to make him want you. Just remember to be patient and not try to desperate.

Whoever is first, so take time to get to know a little about the preferences of your partner. There is nothing worse than showing in front of local steak house only to discover that your date is a vegetarian life difficult. If you know a friend or family, pick their brains for their favorite dishes, or other goodies. It will make you look like a very caring woman, and you start the evening is already ahead of the “points”. It is a way to make him want you.

Skip the five-star places, you will either come looking for him pretentious or pathetic. Save this place for special occasions later in the relationship. On the other hand, do not go quite cheap, and try a fast food place or, say nothing I do not like a date to start talking head in a plastic clown. The best option is to choose an average price, sit down restaurant with a menu of such great magnitude. Most places can accommodate them, do not be afraid to ask.

Choosing a good restaurant for the date, you must also choose to dress appropriately and use good manners too. Do not you go far with a date if you just went to the door of a very nice Italian restaurant of the jeans and flip flops. Humiliation is not an aphrodisiac, believe me. Takes well dressed and holding the door open for him (only if you want), good manners timeless. That is exactly how you do what you want without looking too desperate.

At the table, to determine whether the two of you, or if he prefers to give him the choice for the server itself. Some men think that it is urban and sophisticated, others find it frightening and humiliating, so ask first. Look for their benchmarks for your own behavior. If it does not even on the wine list, ask her if she would not mind if you had a first drink, it can be anti-alcohol, and your glass of wine can cost you much time.

Feel free to offer her dessert. If he refuses, but he makes it quite reluctantly, and then for him to do something, or offers to share her choice with her. (If it’s chocolate, you have earned major brownie points “, pardon the pun).

Finally, when the control is not part of the huge production wages. If he wants to pay a party and you want to pay it off, do not ruin a beautiful evening with an argument. Suggest that they pay the tip, or pay for the movie. Or better yet, tell him that he can buy a meal at the next date. You have successfully deflected the potential hurt feelings, and once asked in a smooth motion.

Bullying is a current problem among kids at school today. There are some solutions that might work.

The past year there were kids who committed suicide because they were being bullied. It’s either they were verbally, or physically abused. There are also those who are bullied through the Internet which is called cyber bullying. Bullying can have a an effect towards the victim. Let’s take a look on some them and how to deal with it.

Bullying is defined as a form of a behavioral aggression by which someone intentionally harms and humiliate others. Being a bully is not hereditary, they are made due to some family or environmental factors. It’s either they are abused at home or their parents are separated or they are being bullied by others. Bullying is not just experienced by kids but also those who are at workplace.

The worst are those kids who experience this everyday of their lives. They don’t tell their teachers or parents. They just keep it to their selves. The reasons they are bullied are for their appearance and social status. Bullies pick them because they think that they don’t fit in.

In order to solve bullying, kids can tell trusted adults as for teens it depends on the situation because some of them threatens them if they are going to tell someone. I think the best way is that they should never be alone and when going home stick close to friends or classmates. Try to always be in a group. You must have a true friend where you can tell whatever is happening to you at school or at home. As much as possible ignore the bully. They’ll get bored if you just walk away or ignore hurtful emails or instant messages. Walk with confidence. Practice feeling good about yourself even though it’s just an act. Stay true to yourself. Think ways to feel best and your strongest. So that they would give up teasing you.

Bullying wouldn’t stop if they will be taken seriously. Stop bullying and be aware.

Have you ever been in a situation where your boss yelled on your face in front of your colleagues, on top of his or her voice? Should it happen to you, the most important thing to do is to stay calm even though you might get extremely furious of the humiliation? This is something that not many people can actually do it. Here I'd like to share a few tips on how to get in control of the situation.

Image via Wikipedia

There are times, when out of sudden, your boss approaches you and expresses his or her anger towards you in front of your colleagues. As a normal human being, there is a chance that you might react improperly out of humiliation and anger yourself. This might lead to an unwanted situation as a result. Therefore, getting yourself in control is the best way to avoid any further difficulties. This can be done by keeping yourself together and stay calm. But, how can you stay calm in such a situation like this?

There are a few things that you can do to keep yourself calm and not easily react to the situation.

First of all, stay completely still and keep quiet until your boss finishes saying all what he or she wants to say. Listen carefully to what he or he is saying but do not think of the answers to what is being said. You might also just agree to all that being said even though you know they are not true.

Secondly, try to count from 10 backward in your heart silently. Keep on counting until your boss finishes talking. Nod your head once in a while repeatedly. This will give the idea that you understand what is being said.

Finally, do not answer any questions from your boss unless you are asked to answer the questions. Try to avoid from giving answers that might give your boss the chance to elaborate more from your answer.

Doing the things stated above, you will find yourself being completely calmed and in controlled. It will also avoid you from engaging into any argument that might get the situation even worse. Apart from it, the situation might over only in a short period of time. The best part of this is, you will also gain all the respects from your colleagues and probably they will get sympathy at you.

Hope you would find the tips helpful, should you face such a situation.

Elizabeth Bathory, daughter of one of the most powerful families of the Hungarian nobility. Known as one of the bloodiest women in history, Bathory is the subject of many myths - some going as far as claiming she bathed in the blood. Here is the story of how she came to earn her title: the Blood Countess.

Renaissance society was extremely pious, and all Europeans, with the exception of the Jews, were expected to venerate the Virgin Mary and uphold the beliefs of Christianity (Manchester, 57). In fact, even the most minor infraction of religious ideals would be punished severely, through public humiliation, torture, or death (Levack, Muir, Veldman, and Maas, 450-452). This piety was a characteristic of all three social classes: the nobility, the clergy, and the commons (Manchester, 55). Though the social status of each differentiated from region to region, for the most part the nobility and the clergy held much more power than the commons. It is therefore understandable that this led to a relatively high degree of neglect among the privileged classes towards certain laws or beliefs. Adultery was widespread amongst the otherwise devoutly pious nobility, and not uncommon amongst the so-called “chaste” members of the clergy (Manchester, 71). It was especially common amongst the nobility, whose marriage was arranged not for romantic purposes, but for economic ones, and the sexual activities of one spouse were often done with the knowledge and consent of their marital partner (Manchester, 69-70). Though sexual deviation and adultery were sometimes prosecuted, in most cases the deviant’s habits remained hidden from the general public. Such was the case with Erzsébet (Elizabeth) Báthory of Hungary, whose sadistic practices have led her to be remembered still today as the Blood Countess.

Elizabeth was born to Anna and Gyrögy Báthory in 1560 (Ramsland, 3). The Báthorys were one of the most powerful and wealthy Hungarian noble families, whose members included renowned politicians, clerics, and warlords (Vronsky, 50). In fact, Elizabeth’s uncle Stephen even became Prince of Transylvania, and was later elected as King of Poland (“Stephen Báthory”). However, not all members of the Báthory family were as respectable, with Elizabeth’s own brother Stefan being a drunkard and a lecher, an uncle rumored to be involved in devil worship, and her infamous aunt Klara (Vronsky, 50). Klara Báthory was an open bi-sexual, a self-proclaimed witch, and is known for having married four times, rumored to have killed her husband in her second marriage (“Erzebet Bathory: la biographie”). Some attribute Elizabeth’s sadistic behavior as mental instability brought by inbreeding, which was common among the aristocracy of the time. In fact, her parents themselves were first cousins (Ciceran). It could also be that her practices came from traumatic shock, for as a child Erzebet witness the torture of a gypsy, whose head was sewn into the stomach of a gutted horse and left there to suffocate (Ivy, 118). It is said though, that her violent activities were for the most part inspired by other influences, including her husband Ferencz Nadasdy, her servant “Dorka”, her aunt Klara, and the obscure Anna Darvulia. These figures and their influences will be covered later throughout this essay.

Elizabeth was strangely educated for her time, speaking three languages, Latin, Greek, and Hungarian, despite the fact that even most men at the time were illiterate. Since childhood she had been headstrong and disobedient. At the age of 11, she was engaged to Ferencz Nadasdy, and was taken to the Nadasdy household to learn Hungarian etiquette (“Elizabeth Báthory”). However, she frequently made visits to the nearby village, and at the age of 14 fell pregnant at the hands of a peasant boy. Fearing for the annulment of her wedding, Anna Báthory had her daughter sequestered, telling the Nadasdy family that she had contracted an infectious disease, until she gave birth to a daughter nine months later (“Elizabeth Báthory”). The illegitimate daughter was given to a peasant family, though further details were not accounted (Ramsland, 3).

Elizabeth and Ferencz were married a year after the incident, in 1575. Their marriage was a relatively peaceful one, as both spouses had similar personalities. Nadasdy was a renowned soldier, and was known by the nickname of “Black Knight of Hungary” (McLaughlin). As such, he was often away from home, leaving Elizabeth to manage the household. This duty included, amongst other things, the discipline of servants, a task that she completed readily and enthusiastically, with perhaps more than necessary vigor. Nadasdy was also a renowned sadist, and is said to have played football with the heads of slaughtered Turks and danced with their corpses (Thorne). It is also rumored that on the occasions that Báthory’s husband returned home, he taught her new torture methods, which he had used and practiced on enemy prisoners.

Most of Báthory’s preferred torture methods involved physical mutilation and major blood loss. However, those that were not were equally, if not more, cruel. One of these, which she supposedly learned from her husband, was to have a girl strip naked and cover her with honey, tying her arms and leaving her outside to be bitten and stung by insects. Another technique was to leave a servant girl naked in the snow, pouring cold water over her until it froze (Montefiore, 167). A milder form of punishment was that of humiliation; disobedient young servants were often stripped in the presence of male serfs.

Unfortunately, most of Báthory’s torture techniques were not as gentle. As mentioned earlier, her methods were quite gory, and revolved around physical mutilation and incision. The exact number of victims is unknown, but it is said that a list exists in Báthory’s own hand listing at least 650 (Amaral). Burning was a frequently used technique. A method known as “Star Kicking” involved placing oiled sheets of paper between the victim’s toes, setting them on fire. The victim would then be likely to kick, trying to unsuccessfully get rid of the burning paper. Ashes would be sent up to float in the air from the kicking, hence the name Star Kicking (“Elizabeth Báthory”). Other methods included forcing girls to hold heated coins or keys, setting pubic hair on fire, scorching using a heated sword, and pouring scalding water over the victims (“The tortures of Elizabeth Bathory”).

One of her favorite tortures was the use of needles. Needles could be used to pierce through the lips, on their flesh, or under the fingernails. Due to their size and portability, they could be carried around with her, and used if Báthory had a sadistic urge while traveling. In fact she is known to have stabbed her servants with needles without warning during carriage rides (Ramsland, 4). According to testimonials that her own accomplices later gave against her, Elizabeth sometimes bound her victim’s arms and legs, having them beaten with a heavy cudgel until “the whole body was black as charcoal and their skin was rent and torn” (Ramsland, 7). Often, fingers were also cut off, using a pair of shears or scissors (“Erzebet Bathory: la biographie”). Báthory was also said to have used the Iron Maiden (McLaughlin). The Iron Maiden was an instrument of torture akin to a coffin with sharp metal spikes on the interior, which would cause its victim to die slowly from hundreds of stab wounds when it opened (Manchester, 35). When the device was opened, the victim’s blood would be collected at the bottom, a fact that contributes to the fictional legend regarding Báthory.

According to the story, one day after striking a maid across the face, Elizabeth’s hand was stained with blood. She noticed after washing it though, that the skin that was previously covered in blood was whiter and smoother than the rest of her skin. From then on she started to routinely bathing in the blood of virgins to preserve her youth. This legend however has no factual basis, and none of the official records from her trial show any testimony against such activities (Ramsland, 9).

It is worthy of note that all of Báthory’s victims were female. There is no recorded reason for this, but there are several theories. One of them deals with criminology itself, associating violence and sexuality with a desire to put oneself in a dominant position. As said by the former FBI profilers Douglas and Olshaker, “….the motivation for the act [of murder] can be summed up in three words: manipulation, domination, and control. These are the elements that give the perpetrator a heightened satisfaction that he does not achieve from anything else in his life,” (qtd. in Noe). Thus, the sadist is more likely to attack members of the gender they are sexually attracted to. In fact, Báthory was a rumored lesbian, and it is said that her preferred victims were blonde, large-breasted, young females (“Elizabeth Báthory”).

Elizabeth is known to definitely have had a series of male lovers, though most of them are unaccounted. She has had at least one affair with a lower class male as mentioned earlier in this essay, but most of her lovers probably belonged to members of the low nobility (Thorne). Her sexual orientation is often disputed, though most sources agree on the fact that she was bi-sexual like her aunt Klara Báthory, who she often visited in the absence of her husband. Some even go as far as suggesting an incestuous relationship between the two, though no factual evidence supports this (“Erzebet Bathory: la biographie”). It is also said that her aunt aroused in Elizabeth an interest in black magic (“Elizabeth Báthory”)

For the first 10 years of their marriage, Nadasdy and Báthory had no children. It was rare for nobles, or for couples of any class, to not have children for such an extended period of time, but this was easily explained by Nadasdy’s absences. Elizabeth had her first child by Ferencz in 1585, a daughter christened Anna. Four more children soon followed: Orsolya, Andrei, Pál, and Katelin, though the first two died at a young age (“Elisabeth Bathory, la comtesse sanglante”). However, Ferencz fell ill in 1601, dying three years later in 1604, leaving Elizabeth to manage the estate by herself (McLaughlin).

It would be however incorrect to say that Báthory was alone. She had several trusted servants, and the acquaintance of an obscure woman named Anna Darvulia, who was her main aide in crime, and perhaps lover, until her death in 1610 (Ramsland, 4). Darvulia was said to be a witch living in the forest, and details about her life are mostly unknown. Nonetheless, she is credited for helping Báthory start her notorious kidnapping of peasant women after her husband’s death. Before dying of a stroke that left her blind, Darvulia is said to have imparted her vast knowledge of torturing techniques to Elizabeth and her maids: Ilena Jo, Dorothea Szentes, and Katarina Beneczky (Amaral). Among Elizabeth’s servants was also a midget manservant by the name of Ujuary Janos, though he was known mostly by the name “Ficzko,” a word that in Hungarian meant simply ‘lad’ (“Elisabeth Bathory, la comtesse sanglante”).

It is interesting to note how Báthory’s victims had evolved, becoming more and more ambitious each time. Until her husband’s death, Elizabeth’s only victims were disobedient servants, which at the time was considered merely impolite. Upon meeting Darvulia, she started hunting young peasant girls instead, lured to her castle by the promise of jobs or money, or simply kidnapped (Ramsland, 7). After Darvulia’s death, Elizabeth is said to have turned to a farmer’s widow, Erzsi Majorova, for counsel. It is suspected that it was under Majorova’s influence that Elizabeth started taking young noble girls as victims (Amaral). She started this by offering to teach etiquette to young noblewomen at her estate. When in 1610 one of the girls was the victim of murder, which Báthory staged as suicide, the authorities finally decided to act (Ramsland, 5). An investigative team, lead by her own cousin Count Gyorgy Thurzo, searched her house on request from the Holy Roman Emperor Mattias I, finding bodies of dead or dying tortured girls scattered around the place (Ramsland, 1-2).

This delay in action against Báthory’s crimes, which could not possibly have remained a secret considering the number of peasant families she had robbed of daughters, was caused by the status of the nobility during the time period. A generation before Elizabeth’s birth, in 1524, a Hungarian peasant uprising was crushed, with the leader being “roasted alive on an iron throne and his followers forced to eat his flesh before they themselves were broken on the wheel and hanged,” (McNally qtd. in Noe). These events caused the nobility to be feared by the peasants, who were thus unable to press charges against Báthory. Another more simplistic reason is that the Báthorys were a very powerful family, and other nobles did not want to risk antagonizing her.

Báthory’s trial happened on the 2nd of January, 1611, in front of a panel of 21 judges (Ramsland, 6). Elizabeth herself however, was not allowed to participate. Almost all of Báthory’s servants testified against her, before being burned at the stake. Ficzko, who was supposedly taken under Báthory’s custody by force, was given a lighter punishment, and was beheaded before being tossed into the flames. Only one of Elizabeth’s servants refused to testify against her, and had her eyes and breasts removed before being burned at the stake with the others (Ramsland, 7). As the laws of the region at the time did not allow a noble to be condemned, Elizabeth Báthory was sentenced to life imprisonment in a room at her castle.

For four years Báthory was confined to one room, with meals being served to her through a small opening in the wall. In the August of 1614 however, someone looking through the said opening saw Báthory lying face down, with several plates of untouched food near her. The exact date of her death is thus unknown (Ramsland, 8).

In conclusion, we can see that though the Renaissance is known for its great works of artistry and its scientific developments, there are darker sides of it as well. A great deal of this may have been a result of inbreeding, causing members of aristocratic families to be mentally unstable, but a lot of it could have been caused simply by moral ideologies of the time. Often with century-old tales, the original story is lost through the addition of details with each generation. However, though this has happened to the story of Elizabeth Báthory a well, her identity as one of the bloodiest women in history is indisputable. As such, Báthory will be remembered for centuries ahead, a feat accomplished by few.
