Internet Slang has revolutionized the internet. Being used by thousands of people, mostly teens, online.

Internet Slang uses abbreviations, such as those used in social networking sites, or on instant messengers, or even on hand-held devices like mobiles. Originally set as a time saver; Internet Slang has now become a popular way of communicating; even making its way out of the computer screens, and into the real world.

Early Forms of Internet slang include words like: Noob or Flame. Which primary were single words used to describe someone of the perticular requirements. This short list, then gained a number of abbreviations, such as: Lol (lough out loud) or AFK (Away from Keyboard). At the time, these were used on social networking sites and instant messengers, as a way of saving time, and showing emotions.

Shortly after, Internet Slang was being used a lot more; and progressed past the stage of time saving. It was now a ‘language’, and people began using it, even in simple things like emails. However, it soon progressed passed this, and, as it is today, is used in actual conversations, as well as in writings and reports.

Despite all the above, a study was done on a group of students, and it was found that 90% of them, still used internet slang, far less than their normal english, and that they still had reasonably reading and spelling.

This has been axxy,

Cya

The article gives you information that how to improve English Vocabulary.

Some time ago I decided it was time for me to start sounding intelligent, so I decided to increase my vocabulary! I guess you’re there for the same reason. But you’ll quickly discover that if you just plop into a chair and try to start plowing through the first Webster, you get your hands on that things are really boring very quickly.

I will not bore you with talk about how you can not remember the words well, let’s get right to how you can start increasing your vocabulary.

Ok, this one is pretty obvious – Learn more! If you really want to increase your vocabulary, reading is an essential step! Want to get the most out of your books? Begin to keep a little diary of words that you really like when playing. This way, you can easily find the words you find later. Of course, you’ll have to read books rather advanced.

Another thing you can do is go to Dictionary.com and subscribe to the newsletter to start receiving their word of the day. These newsletters are really fun and really easy, and they are a great way to discover the words that you’ve never seen before. And I mean, a dictionary site, they will look good words for you …

The last thing you can do, and it’s really a very important thing is to use these words or academic vocabulary in use into your speech. This is the only way I found to guarantee that I’ll keep those precious words that I learned. As I’m sure you understand, a truly easy to learn more words is just to make an effort to use your word day, at least several times a day. Obviously, this way you will be almost guaranteed to learn at least 365 words per year.

That sounds like maybe not much, but it really is.

Try practicing some of these tips and you’ll see how it is nice to have a large vocabulary.

Ego is conceit, it is self-importance, it is selfish. If it is in excess it can ruin a relationship too. Read more......

You won’t accept your mistakes: When you carry ego, you will never accept your mistakes even if your significant other points it out to you. Eventually you will never correct your mistakes and go on repeating it again and again. It is not good for you, and for your family in the long run.

You will magnify your partner’s mistakes: When you are having ego, then you will definitely magnify the mistakes of your partner. You would have done the same mistake before but you would not have let your partner to point it out. If they point it out, you will either try to defend yourself or blame your partner over the issue. This makes your partner feel hurt. They will understand that their partner is not treating them equally. This will lead to serious misunderstandings in future.

An egoistic person will not respect the feelings and emotions of the partner: The egoistic person will never respect the emotions and feelings of his/her partner. This will hurt their partner’s feelings and eventually the affected partner’s love towards the egoistic person will diminish step by step gradually.

An egoistic person can’t forgive: In any relationship forgiving and forgetting the mistakes is very important. No one is flawless. None can live without making mistakes. An egoistic person does not forgive his/her partner’s mistakes easily and often points out the mistakes happened in the past. This will earn the dissatisfaction of the partner.

Ego affects the communication between the couple: Ego will certainly affect the communication between the partners. A healthy and easy communication is very important in any relationship. When ego comes in a relationship, communication becomes less and less.

Ego in sex life: The ego plays a role in sex life too. The egoistic partner does not start the act even if he /she wants to have it. They want their partner to initiate the act. They miss a lot of delightful moments in life. Their sexual life will be affected and that in turn will have an impact on their relationship.

Shed your ego and save the relationship: If you really want to save a relationship, then you must drop your ego. Please remember every one has self-respect. In a relationship both man and woman are equal. Both should respect each other. Both should be able to accept the flaws of other.

Summary: Ego can ruin a relationship or a marriage in the long run. Ego is a slow poison that kills a relationship. Let go your ego and let the relationship live for ever.

                                            Why do relationships fail?

At last the results of this years series are out!

After 3 gruelling weeks in the Australian jungle, the winner of ITV’s ‘I’m A Celebrity Get me Out of Here’ has been announced.

Stacey Solomon, who has been the nations favourite since the show began has finally been crowned Queen of the Jungle. Known for her upbeat, happy characteristics, Stacey has been entertaining the nation with her crazy personality and mannerisms.

Stacey, who was a finalist on last year’s X-Factor competition, did several trials, including ‘The Australian Job’ which involved being suspended 50 feet up in a minibus, teetering on the edge of a cliff. As she herself proclaimed, it was the only time during the show when she was quiet.

Shaun Ryder, the musician who came second, was also very popular with the public, and touched the hearts of many of the viewers. He showed is tough side, as well as his caring side, after being bitten by a snake, which refused to let go, until 2 of the shows animal handlers managed to prise its jaw apart! Shaun, however, was always the first to comfort those who were crying, including ex Playboy Bunny, Kayla.

One of the reasons the public loved Shaun so much was his contrasting argumentative side, and his dislike of meeting new people. He was constantly waging war with nutritionist Gillian McKeith, who, quite frankly was getting on everybody’s wick. Shaun deeply resented the camps gradual expansion, first with the merging of ‘Camp Shelia’ and ‘Camp Bruce’, and later when 3 new celebrities joined.

One of the biggest controversies was Gillian McKeith’s faint on live TV. When she was told that she was going to have to partake in the ‘Unfairground’ she collapsed into Ant’s arms and the medic had to rush on –again- to give her oxygen, and the attention she so desired. As she fainted she did so in true heroin fashion, with her hand resting daintily on her head, and when she was on the ground she was still able to adjust her top for the camera. Many of the camp mates believed that she had faked it to get out of another trial, and Britt Ekland went so far as to say ‘I think Gillian is a better actress than I am.’

What made Gillian such an entertaining personality was her infinite amount of phobias. Apparently she hadn’t watched the show before, and had no idea that it involved insects, as she is highly afraid of them, and could faint even if she looked at them. Her other phobias included heights, spiders, water and more.

I’m sure everybody who watched the program this year will agree that Stacey Solomon deserved to win; as she is a lovely young lady who always has others best interest at heart.

Internet Bullying in america.

Bullying occurs everywhere; students bully as well as adults. Whether it is at work or in school, bullying always hurts people’s feelings. One bullying event that lasted for four years, happened to a girl named Heather Simpson in Michigan. Unlike common bullying, like teasing, name calling, and physical contact, Heather Simpson was attacked on the internet when she was in fifth grade and this continued until she was in eighth grade. Seven girls in her school, who used to be her friend, decided to bully Heather Simpson by spreading rumors on the internet. Heather didn’t really know why the girls decided to deceive her. They would send emails and instant message people from their school. A lot of the things said on the messages were inappropriate and libel. Heather Simpson felt victimized and scared. Her mother did go to the school and talk to the principal about it, but the principal said that they couldn’t help because anything occurring outside of school property wasn’t their business. The only thing the principal did do to help is allow Heather Simpson to eat in a different room. (“O’Reily Talks”) In short, kids and adults can experience bullying anywhere, even through the internet and there are many ways to avoid this.

Before winter, CMS had a Bullying Awareness Day, where the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders learned about bullying. In addition, they learned how to stop a bully and how to not be a bully. Throughout this day, I learned many things about bullying. One thing that I learned a lot about was how to avoid bullying. The incident that was explained above could have been resolved in many ways. Heather Simpson could have confronted the bullies, told an adult earlier, try to ignore their tactics, and this could have been prevented if someone tried to stand up for Heather. If Heather Simpson went up to the girls that were bullying her and told them how she felt and that it was wrong, the bullies may have stopped bullying her and realize that it was wrong. Confronting bullies could also build up confidence. Heather could have also gone to an adult earlier. She could have gone to someone that she respected and looked up to for advice to stop the bullying. She could have also ignored the harm things that were being done to her. If Heather kept on giving the bullies the cold shoulder and tried not to pay attention to what they were doing, they would have thought that bullying her was getting boring and they would stop. The girls that were bullying Heather Simpson noticed that she was getting scared, so they kept bullying her. Heather could have acted confident and fearless. Last but not least, the people who were receiving these emails and instant messages could have done something about it. They could have at least stood up for her. If there were fewer bystanders, there would be more people that would help Heather. In conclusion, bullying can always be prevented. Victims just have to become confident and take control.

All in all, bullying occurs everywhere. Heather Simpson was bullied on the internet and she could have prevented it in many ways. Many people could learn from this incident. One thing people should learn is that you should always stay confident and fearless, because it will help build up your self-esteem. Also, you should always tell an adult as soon as some one starts bullying you; otherwise the bully could bully you for months. Also, don’t think about what other’s think about you and take control.

The bordom list- activities which can help pass time using little or nothing at all.too.

Before you start reading I would like to inform you if you consider yourself too “mature” or anything of the matter I suggest you close this article. I wouldn’t want to waste your time. Although taking a peek never hurts.

Sticky Ice. Pontential entertainment time; 2-7 Min. : First put your hands in warm water for about 10-30 seconds. After shake off the excess water and quickly stick your hands under the ice dispenser. Any ice will work, though I find this the easiest way to do this. If you have done it right the ice should stick to your hands in an amazing sensation.

Try Not to Think About Elephants. Potential entertainment time; 1-3 Min. : This may be hard to do because by thinking too hard or too little you end up thinking about elephants anyways.

Scratch Yourself. Potential entertainment time; 1-2 Min. : Go ahead and do it, whether you feel itchy or not you could always use a good scratch.

Pinch Yourself. Potential entertainment time; 1-2 Min. : Pain is a strange concept. What is it and why does it happen? Gives you something to ponder.

Water Drinking Contest. Potential entertainment time; 5-10 Min. : Do this with one friend or more. WARNING: drinking too much water can be dangerous or even deadly. I would suggest having a contest who can drink the set amount of water in the fastest amount of time.

Fist in Mouth. Potential entertainment time 1-3 Min. : Why not try it out? You’re bored anyways.

Look Through Your Neighbor’s Trash. Potential entertainment time; 15-35 Min. : I would suggest that the younger readers of this article only try this out due to the fact that as you are older it just makes you look like the weird neighbor everyone is afraid of (unless you’re already that person). Although looking through a person’s trash can really tell you more about them and their lifestyle.

Make a Thumb Monkey. Potential entertainment time; 1-6 Min. : Following the instructions on the drawing above can be quite the entertainment in class (I figured this one out in the lecture hall during Spanish class). Placing your finger 1 cm below the mouth of the “thumb monkey” and moving it in a circular motion can make it look as though it is chewing its food.

Burning With a Magnifying Glass. Potential entertainment time; 5-30 Min. : This one really helps make time fly. Be careful though this is fire after all.

Blow Bubble Gum Bubbles. Potential entertainment time 1-30 Min. : Blow until your mouth hurts from blowing or the gum gets stuck in your hair (hence the long potential entertainment time).

This isn’t the entire list, but I will add more as time progresses. Some of the items on here are extremely juvenile and pointless, and thus nothing on this list should be taken too literally. Other than that, enjoy!

Back when I was in school, there was a lot of stress in the use of proper grammar, however, with the advent of internet, SMS and other electronic media, is proper English grammar still relevant.

Back when I was in school, we were trained to use proper grammar. At the time, I was thought to use British spelling and use the King’s English. My indoctrination was not as complete as some of my friends.

Image by Tsar Kasim via Flickr

After that, when I studied in America, I found differences in the usage of words and spelling. Since all my thoughts are in English, I considered English to be my first language even though it is not my mother tongue. With that I thought my English was good but I was recently proven wrong – through the editor credential test provided by Cloud Crowd.

Has my English deteriorated due to the laziness in my daily communication? The objective of communication is for the listener to understand our message. With all the short forms introduced with SMS and also IM, is proper English still relevant?

Our message is still understood when we make minor mistakes and typos, so the objective of communication is still achieved.

I think it is still relevant but the lack of focus has deteriorated the quality of many of our English skills. It becomes worst with different standards used. I am aware of three standards – British, American and Canadian. Yes, there are differences between the American and the Canadian standards.

The challenge now is how do I improve my English now that I am no longer in an academic environment?

With the world becoming less and less dependent on good old fashioned pen-and-paper methods, and literacy standards dropping faster than any stock market in 2007, we are faced with a generation of young adults and youths that have developed grammatical habits with complete disregard for any sort of formal written structure. It is true that high schools will still implement curriculums with classic and contemporary literary and artistic greats; Shakespeare, Salinger, McCarthy to name a few, but it appears as though these works are not having any sort of measurable or visible effect on the latest generation of high school graduates.

One could speculate that the reason for this is the amount of time spent reading text with proper, formal writing, compared with the time spent dwelling on message boards, instant messaging clients, or social networks online, where the text is littered with a poor excuse for the English language. This of course is not exclusive to English – most languages have their own slang used online or in other social situations outside of the classroom – however it appears to be almost completely exclusive to internet users. Why is it that this generation of burgeoning young adults feel the need to carelessly disregard the form and style that has been developed over centuries of communication?

A parallel can be drawn between this rapid evolution of language and the qualms scientist have over genetic engineering, or hasty advances in modern medicine. While the short term benefits may be nice (consider healing a patient short term, or shortening a word and typing just a few letters or in some cases a single letter), the long term effects may cause irrevocable damage (perhaps the patient contracts a disease that they would have otherwise been immune to, had it not been for that previous treatment, and as for the language, perhaps a rift is formed between those who understand this shorthand communication, and those who do not understand, or even misinterpret it).

The challenge for the generation in question will not only be maintaining the ability to communicate with one another, but teaching said methods to the following generations. If a kindergarten teacher does not know the proper use of homophones “your” and “you’re,” whilst a third grade teacher is using analogous pronunciations for “our” and “are,” their (or they’re, or there in some opinions!) students will be subjected to difficulty in expressing themselves as well. There are, of course, a plethora of similar examples of common errors in grammar, spelling, enunciation, and pronunciation being used by today’s generation of young adults, and they will only pass these on to the following generation.

This message is not simply food for thought, but also a call to action. Whether caused by increased social activity due to increased means of interacting, or due to sheer laziness (ex.: “spell-checking” in the typing world, the destruction of vocabulary and language must not be taken lightly. There is a reason why we have the structure and form we do today, or had yesterday at the least, and as a society, it would be a shame to have to find out that reason the hard way. Scratching images into cave walls is not a preferred method in this day and age, and many homeowners may have something to say – or carve – about their friends destroying the living room wall just to get their point across.
