The significance of laughter and imagination for children in children's literature.

The 1800’s brought a number of new books that bore no trace of the preaching or teaching that had been in most children’s books. One of these came from Germany. It was the folktales collected by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, two university scholars. The Grimm brothers recorded the tales just as they had heard them from storytellers in the countryside. Here were stories of talking beasts and dancing princesses, of elves and dwarfs, and even of a princess who slept for a hundred years. The tales were recorded in the rhythmic language of the storyteller. They also had the same buildup of suspense that had held listeners spellbound for centuries. They were first published in 1812 in Germany. In 1823 these tales were brought out in England. There they became known as Grimm’s Fairy Tales.

Another of the new books came from Denmark, where Hans Christian Andersen, following the lead of the Grimms, also turned to folktales. But unlike the Grimms, Andersen retold the old stories in his own way. He also added new stories that he created on the old folktale pattern. Andersen’s Fairy Tales and Stories was translated into English in 1846.

That same year humor was introduced into children’s books in England. This came with the publication of Edward Lear’s Book of Nonsense. It is a collection of limericks (humorous five-line poems with a special rhyme and rhythm) illustrated with hilarious cartoons drawn by Lear.

It is probably the first children’s book to be created for real-life children, whom Lear consulted on every limerick and drawing. Lear’s humor produced ridiculous people and situations and equally funny drawings. Unlike The New England Primer, which begins “In Adam’s fall/ We sinned all,” Lear’s book was all nonsense and laughter.

In much the same spirit, Charles Dodgson, a distinguished mathematician and university scholar, began telling stories to three little girls. One of them was named Alice. These stories were published in 1865 as Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland under the pen name Lewis Carroll. Alice goes down a rabbit hole, where she shrinks to the height of a flower, meets the Cheshire cat, nearly drowns in her own tears, and takes part in a mad tea party. Nonsense is spoken with great seriousness, and foolish doings multiply. Alice’s adventures were continued in Through the Looking-Glass, published in 1872. Both books were illustrated by Sir John Tenniel, a cartoonist for Punch, London’s magazine of humor.

Is it just our imagination that makes them famous, or is it just the famous people themselves?

Why is it that there are quite a few people in this world that seem to matter more than others? Why do we allow ourselves to sometimes fixate on the lives of others? I think the answer is simple, we have hope and imagination and curiosity. We hope that maybe one day, we can be like them, maybe one day we can be as beautiful as them, or as rich as them, or as talented as them. We hope that we can be like them, that we won’t have to continue on living our lives since theirs seem so perfect, we hope for what they have and hope that we can get it someday. As for imagination, we have it in the aspect that we can imagine our lives like theirs, or at least what we see. Because let’s be honest, there are people out there getting paid to show us what celebrities want us to see, the good side, or the controversial side, or in other words, the money side. So because that we only see what is interesting, exciting, or amazing, we use our extremely powerful imaginations, that most of us have, to see ourselves in their shoes, to imagine how we would spend our lives like that, imagine how much different or similar we would run our lives in comparison to them. Then there’s just plain old curiosity, the fact that we wonder about other peoples lives, if things that happen in ours only happen to us, or if they happen to other people too, which usually it does, even the famous ones. This is why I think famous people are just that, famous. We focus on the good of them, giving us hope, and helping us to forget about the dreariness in our own, imagine that we could one day be like them, and it helps to satisfy our own natural born curiosity.

Every one of us has a dream to achieve something, but, most of the time that we have failed to do so. If we can analyze, we can find that, not enough attraction from us to the dream. Law of Attraction is the power of magic that will help your dream become a reality.

We all are using Law of Attraction in some way or the other, where we are aware of it or not. If we want exploit all the hidden possibilities and magical powers of Law of Attraction, then we need to be observant and attract with faith, only what we want. I like to call it, being Power Attractor. Focus the Ends, forget the Means, the more focused we are towards the Ends (what we want) the faster Means (how to get what we want) will follow. The most important thing we need to understand the of manifestation, of what we want may not the way we think them to be, but it’s surely guaranteed that things will manifest, all we need to do is, to be observant enough to recognize and to be thankful for the manifestation.

The Law of Attraction states: I attract to myself, whatever I give my focus, attention or energy to; whether wanted or unwanted. If you think about being broke, poor, lonely and believe your thoughts guess what? That is exactly what you’ll be. This Law applies to your life and every other person’s life on the planet. Like all laws, it is impartial and impersonal, which means it works when you want it to and when you do not want it to.

Everything comes to us through the most elemental law of physics – Like Attracts Like! Like Attracts Like is nothing more than the Law of Attraction. It is absolute and has nothing to do with your personality, your religious belief, being a “good” or a “bad” person or anything else. No one lives beyond this law. It is an unquestionable law of the universe.

James Allen has quoted in his book “As a Man Thinketh”, “Circumstance does not make the man: it reveals him to himself.

So, imagine starting to believe in yourself and your infinite possibilities. Imagine believing you deserve everything you want out of life. Imagine getting everything you want out of life.

Once you apply Law of Attraction everything is possible.

Try It and Good Luck!

One night at a convenience store, a desperate eighteen year old tries to rob it. She accidentally stabs and kills the cashier, and now lives in hell with guilt. This is the story of this young woman's guilt.

I run away from the limp body on the ground, as the pouring rain rain washes away the red blood. My wet sneakers making squishing sounds against the cement sidewalk, saying I was a murderer.

The ground suddenly opens up underneath of me, and I tumble down into the black nothingness below. As I fall, I hear the tormented screams of the dead man. “Die in Hell! You are not human! Know the pain that you had given to me!”

I keep falling with noting to grab hold of. I see the bloody face the man, the terror in his eyes.

“I never meant it!” I gasp as I jolt in my seat. I pant, trying to catch hold of my breath, disoriented from the world around me.

When I finally regain my composure, I realize where I am. I am sitting in front of the newsstand, on a bench, reading the titles of the newspaper.O

LOCAL MAN MURDERED

This weekend, local cashier, John Coles, was found dead and stabbed twice in the stomach. The crime took place at a small convenience store. An eyewitness says that Coles was trying to stop a robbery, when he was stabbed by the robber. “I saw the whole thing. Some girl went into the store, pulled a knife out, and threatened the cashier. She told him to give her all the money that was in the cash register. When some cop’s siren was going off nearby, she bolted and the cashier followed. Outside the store, he grabbed her, she turned around and stabbed him. His grip never loosened and so she stabbed him again, making him let go.” The suspect is still unknown as the witness never got a good look at her face. All that is known about her is that she has shoulder length black hair and pale white skin. We advise you to be on the look out though, and to be careful while outdoors.

I stood up from the bench and started walking down the street. I kept my head down and hood up. You never knew who may be watching. I pass many different people. A group of older teens were hanging out in front of a movie theater, taunting anyone who looks their way. A young homeless man was playing a harmonica outside a pawn shop. An old woman was talking to herself on a bench. Many people in this neighborhood are like this. You don’t find many good people here.

 “Did you kill someone?”

I stop moving, my heart skipping a beat. I look behind me where I heard the voice. I scan the area behind, but no one was even looking my way. I nervously turn back around and continue walking.

“You did! You murdered John Coles!”

I spin around, only to find no one again. I started to panic, I swiftly turned around again, and began to walk fast.

“I bet he had a family. Don’t you feel bad, you murderer?”

I began to run. I spotted a fast food restaurant and ran inside. I stand a bit back from the counters, staring at the menu.

“Why did you do it? He was an innocent person.”

I start to twitch, tapping my feet against the linoleum floor. I scan the menu, unable to read anything.

“Why don’t you die? He probably never wanted to?”

“GO AWAY!” I scream and cower on the floor. I clutch my head, clawing at my skin. I try to get the voice out of my head, but only making it louder.

“Die, die, die. You are a horrible person, you know. I mean, killing just for trying to stop a robbery. You’re pretty low.”

I claw and claw. I scream and curse the voice to go away. I feel something grab my arm, memories flashing through my head. I remember when the man grabbed my arm. The movement of my arm swinging back and forth. His grip tightening and my arm swinging again. His body collapsing on the ground as I pulled away. His moans as his life slips away. I was a murderer.

Around me there is nothing but darkness. I see nothing but pitch black. I look around me to find something. I see nothing until, suddenly, the man’s tormented wails and his tormented face appear in front of me. “Why did you do it! Why did you kill me! Why!”

I scream and start running. I run out of the door of the fast food restaurant, and run in one direction. I try to get away from the voice, but as I keep going, the voice only gets louder. I trip and fall, and close my eyes.

When I opened my eyes, I was laying down on the ground of a cemetery. I look around for the voice, but all is silent. I carefully get up from the ground and start to walk aimlessly. I see many graves, with only stone to show their existence.

I stop when I hear a woman’s wails. I feel a chill to my bones, as I walk toward the sound. I pass countless graves, and when I passed a tree. Standing on a hill before me, was a woman with a swollen stomach. She was crying before a grave on top of the hill.

I approach her, but her wails and moans only get louder. When I am beside her, I read what was written on the grave.

JOHN COLES

LOVING HUSBAND AND FATHER

WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE

FACE OF HIS CHILD

I collapse onto the ground, shivering from the cold that had seeped into my bones. The woman beside me suddenly stopped crying. “You killed him. He was going to be a father, you know. But, you killed him, and now our child will never be able to meet him. You should just die.”

“NO! I don’t want die yet! I’m sorry! Forgive me!” I get up from the sidewalk and run into the street, and in front of a car. I hear brakes squeal as I feel extreme pain, and my body gets flung. I lie on the street, feeling nothing for a few moments before I lose consciousness.

I awaken feeling a soft bed underneath of me. I open my eyes to the blurry sight of white. My head feels dizzy and I hear voices mumbling inside of the room. “Is she going to live?”

“I don’t know. . . she experienced extreme damage to her spine and skull. I’m shocked she’s still alive as of now. One thing is for sure though. . . she won’t be able to walk for the rest of her life.”

“Poor thing. . . she’s so young too. She can’t be much older than seventeen.”

“I know, it’s shocking to think that I have a girl her age, and this can happen to her too.”

I hear them talk some more, but I lose consciousness shortly after. I awake again a few hours later, to the sound of a woman humming. My voice is raspy and stuttering as I try to speak. “W-Who. . . are y-y-you?”

I hear the sudden stop of her humming, and the sound of a gasp. “Oh my! Are you awake?”

 “Y-Y-Yes.”

“Goodness! I was told you shouldn’t be awake for a few more hours! I’ll go get the doctor!”

I hear her quick footsteps against the linoleum floor. I almost lose consciousness again, but the sound of the doctor’s voice keeps me awake. “You are a very lucky girl. Many would die from the damage that you took. But, here you are, talking to me.”

 “Am. . . I-I-I in. . . a h-hospital?”

“Yes, you are. You may have stay here for a few years.”

 “W-What. . . happened t-t-to me?”

“You were in a very serious car accident. May I ask for your name?”

I pause, thinking of my name. The name of a murderer. I smile as I say, “D-D-Do you. . . r-r-really want. . . to know th-th-the name of. . . a-a-a murderer?” I hear a gasp as I say that, and the whispering of a woman.

“I don’t believe you are murderer. But could you care to tell me why you say so?” I hear the nervousness in his voice, knowing that I was telling the truth.

 “D-D-Did you. . . hear a-a-a-about. . . the m-m-m-murder at. . . the. . . c-c-convenience store. T-T-That was. . . m-me.”

 “A-Are you telling the truth?”

I think of the man and his moans, the blood surrounding him. I remember the pregnant woman at the cemetery, weeping for him. I start to cry and wail as I say, “I n-n-never. . . m-m-meant i-it!”

My heart begins to speed up, I feel intense pain in my head as I hear yelling from the doctor. I can feel myself being rolled away, into the world after. For a second, I feel calm and at peace. There is no pain, or regret, as I lose consciousness for the last time ever.

It’s a tool that everybody has, but its only as useful as you make it.

I believe that there are very few stupid people in the world. Now, I have faith in humans and their ability to use their intelligence, but it’s never wise to doubt their capacity to do really stupid things from time to time. So yes, I believe that there are also some really stupid people on this planet but I also believe that we can use our gray matter more wisely if we want. So why are some people stupid? I don’t think they’re permanently stupid. It’s just a temporary condition and it ca n have a lot of causes such as extreme shyness, as one example.

But even the stupidest among us can achieve great things. And they often do. It’s possible because we all have talent, although we might not think so. One just has to look for it in order to find it. Taking up hobbies sometimes reveals it. Because no matter how stupid one is perceived, the brain is always at work, thinking of things, using their imagination, pondering and so on. The mind is like the shark; always on the move. This can take the form in an attempt at writing fiction or inventing something and if this person is talented enough at these attempts, then a great novel or a great invention could be the result. There is no limit to a human’s abilities to accomplish.

The great tragedy of course is a person’s acceptance by his or her peers. Young people especially have an unfortunate capacity to diminish or belittle someone’s intelligence to the point of making someone socially unacceptable.

But a brain has a (not so) hidden capacity to use one special gift. The imagination, especially imaging. Daydreamers often engage in this. Imaging is the process of placing yourself, using your mind, in situations that you really want to be in. For instance, if you really want to be a performer on stage, or involved in a sport such as in baseball, or boxing, or stage dancer (such as ballet). There is really no limit. If one has a great desire to achieve something, it’s not impossible. Of course, the talent has to be there but it’s not wrong to dream even if the talent is lacking. I’ve dreamed of doing lots of things that never gelled, but imaging (which can be misinterpreted as just daydreaming) can be a very powerful tool if you have a goal.

If you want to really be a lawyer, for instance, you close your eyes and really see yourself in the court defending or representing a client. It really helps, of course, if you can really picture it vividly, with colors, sounds, smells and so on, so that it’s not just wishful thinking. It also helps if your realistic as well, so, trying to imagine yourself as a caped superhero flying through the air, bullets bouncing off your chest really won’t do you any good. It’s really better to keep it within the realm of reality. Besides that, it’s just childish.

So no matter what your age, if you really have a real goal, even one that may seems impossible (as long as it is within the realm of the difficult but achievable of course), then have a seat, close your eyes, and imagine it.

What if questions.

What if questions are a great way to stretch the imagination, and a really good way to find new writing ideas. Here are 10 what if questions of my own.

What if…

The world really were flat?

*What would happen? Would we not have enough space to live, what with the rapidly growing population?

You were never born?

*Where would your parents be? What would your friends be like? Would you siblings be any different?

North America was never found?

*What would happen? Would we still be subject to England’s rule?

The South won the Civil War?

*Would slaves still be around today? Who do you know that would not be alive because of it?

We had time machines?

What do you think you would go back and do? Would the world be changing every second, but we just don’t remember how it used to be?
Your favorite movie/book/series character came to life?

*Would you become best friends, worst enemies, how would life be? Would it change everything in your small town?

School didn’t exist?

*How uneducated would the youth, and adults, of america be?

Pollutants didn’t exist?

*What if we(humans) had never found, or invented things that were pollutants? How different would the world be, for both industrialism and for the earth?

Christmas was in the spring?

*What is Jesus was born in the spring? Would it be any different? What would happen to spring break? No more white christmasses?

everyone had superpowers?

*in your opinion, what would happen? If everyone’s super, then nobody is.

This issue is on the power of imagination. The power to dream, to admire this dream and put it to better use through action.

Imagination a tool to change and make a difference in the lives of one or more.

Imagination grows by exercise, and contrary to common belief,

is more powerful in the mature than in the young.

~W. Somerset Maugham

***************************

Imagine for yourself a character, a model personality, whose example you

determine to follow, in private as well as in public.

~Epictetus

The power of imagination, if only we understood its power in our minds and collectively as a group.

Imagine rising up against the two party political system and saying no more will we limit ourselves. To a party who uses a donkey as a symbol or a big elephant as the other.

Imagine rising up against child homelessness and saying no more and turning our empty landscape into facilities that not only housed the homeless but educated them and protected them from harm.

Imagine standing and saying no more to a welfare system that does not promote leaving it but puts walls around its recipients to make them feel safe and secure and why would they want to leave its safety net. There is no reward on the outside only hurdles.

Imagine if only we stood up and said no more to this folly there is a better way. Lets go in this direction. Lets head towards empowerment instead of making people live in fear.

Live out of your imagination, not your history.

~Stephen Covey

Imagine what you really want for your day, your week, your month, your year. Imagine, make it real, dream big and walk towards that image.

What is there to lose? What is there to gain? What is the possibility that the journey will be more than just a journey?

Some things to ask as the year 2012 gets closer some 33 days away.

Enjoy this day. Enjoy this day for it is yours. Make today count and let your imagination run free with no chains, no barriers and no limits.

As always smiles sent your way today and everyday! : )

Lies about events that did not make sense is often ejected from the mouth of the child, eg child afraid of the sun that will eat them or the children feel able to fly high, of course it was all done in duniannya the world of fairy tales.

For children, fairy tales into a story about the ideal state yangs supposed to happen. Figures in the tale was often well into their idol. Their little minds are very easily influenced these tales and their tendency to imitate his idol figures.

Yes child’s world is a world of fantasy or fairy tales, children are not able to distinguish which one is fictional and what is not. Here is the function of parents who need to appreciate the imagination or “lie” is.

Do not insult, scorn or disdain, though for the elderly could be the tale was a lie from the truth. That is why the tale is played must be selected correctly. Do not be a cause for the child’s ongoing deceit.

Task of the parents who give sense to the child, little by little, where the imagination, where the actual. Do not simply remain silent or even nod in agreement with that imaginary stories. Later, children need to understand the boundary between the world of imagination with the real world.

“Success can be created from the ideas and creativity of the infinite, which begins with an imagination”.
