Channel four television programme.

First off I just want to say: What a brilliant show!

It’s a real life documentary about a man who is investigating why one million of british houses are empty, even though the UK is enduring its worst housing crisis since the Second World War.

Presenter George Clarke argues refurbishing the properties would be a cheaper and quicker option than building new ones, thus providing suitable accommodation for the country’s homeless.

Clarke wants to refurbish the buildings himself with his team of builders and he does exactly what he says he will do. In his programme he helps a family fix up a home which has been unusable for 3 years. He squats in an empty house where they have taken the toilet out, and taken out the taps. Who is using the house then? Why hasn’t the owner fixed it up and lived in it?

It makes sense that squatters will want to use these epmty houses because they are empty and they have nowhere else to go. If the houses are empty in the first place and no one lives in them why don’t the government use our tax money to fix them up so we can then use them or fix some up so the homeless can have a safe place to stay for the night?

I read an article in the underground Metro newspaper the other day that says that:

“The findings come from the first survey carried out by the Office for National Statistics as part of a £2million ‘happiness index’ set up by David Cameron”

You can find the article here: http://www.metro.co.uk/news/883607-britons-remain-happy-despite-economic-crisis-says-2million-study#ixzz1fhhb5zvm

First of all why is he spending out 2 million pounds on a happiness survey? That does NOT make me happy at all! He could have spent that 2 million pounds fixing up some of the empty homes in london, or used it for funding the NHS or any other public service that probably desparately need it.
So Cameron what are you spending our tax money on? It would be nice to see how much is being spent where and to see what they look at as a priority, apparantly our happiness is a priority but honestly a survey is not going to make us happy, maybe he should have put it towards the public’s pensions, that would probably have put a smile on everyone’s faces!

On July 17, 1918, the last tsar of Russia Nicholas II Romanov – along with his family and servants were murdered in the basement of the Ipatiev house in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

He and his wife Alexandra, four daughters, Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia and his hemophiliac son the Tsarevich Alexei were awakened in the middle of the night to be moved to another location by their Bolshevik captors.

The White Russians were coming and the Bolsheviks told the family and servants to pose for a photo in the small basement as proof that they

Instead of a photographer, a firing line formed with orders to shoot for the hearts. The order was given and the first volley of shots ricocheted from the women as if protected by divine providence.

The firing squad were thunderstruck that their own bullets turned against them. The women survived the first volley while the firing squad left the room to reload and reenter the gun smoke filled room to shoot again. The astonishment turned into a frenzied blood lust as forensic evidence showed the women died from bludgeons to the head.

Before being buried in an unmarked grave, all the clothes from the corpses were removed. It was discovered that 18 pounds of diamonds were embedded into the corsets of the murdered women.

Image via Wikipedia

Is the letter “C” really “G” and vice versa?

1. Julius Caesar, known in Latin as Gaius Iulius Caesar, when abbreviating his name is recognized as “C. Iulius Caesar.”

2. The Three Kings are traditionally named Melchior, Balthasar, and Kaspar (or Gaspar).

3. Look at the following list of Latin third declension words, rendered in their nominative (dictionary form) and their respective genitive (the possessive form that tells you what family it belongs to.)

dux > ducis

index > indicis

saltatrix > saltatricis

bellatrix > bellatricis

rex > regis

Is the “G” of rex irregular in this pattern or is it merely a linguistic extension of the Gaius/Gaspar examples? To the beginning Latin student, it is just another irregularity to endure. To someone steeped in the language it is a clue to a deeper past.

I’d love to hear the thoughts of any linguists, Classicists, or speakers of Romance languages on this topic.

Thanks.

The ring tradition.

There is a Chinese legend who can explain in a nice and very convincing:

The thumbs represent parents.

The index represent your siblings and friends.

The middle finger represents you the same.

The ring finger (fourth finger) represents your partner.

The little finger represents the children.

Put your hands together palm to palm, then joins the middle fingers so that they are knuckle to knuckle
Now try to separate parallel your thumbs (representing the parents), you will notice that open because your parents are not destined to live with you till the day you die, Put them together again.

Now try to separate as the index fingers (representing your brothers and friends), you will notice that also open because they are gone, and have different destinations such as marriage and children.

Now try to separate out a pinky fingers (representing your children) because they also open your children grow and when you no longer need to go, Put them together again.

Finally, try to separate your ring finger (fourth finger represents your partner) and you be surprised that simply can not separate them … that is because a couple is destined to be together until the last day of his life and that is why because the ring is used in this finger.

Image via Wikipedia

That should place the hope and change Index at its lowest point since the beginning of his administration.

However, one need to factor into the equation, the Bushwhack effect of the previous administration. Had it not been for that one element, the Obama’s administration policies would have had a far better effect on the economy than what it is currently.

So, the Hope and Change Index, did not take into account, the Bushwhack effect. Therefore, it is actually higher than 30 on the Hope and Change Index.

Therefore, the American people need to understand that it is not the present administration’s fault for the Hope and Change Index being so low.

Unemployment is at a twenty five year low and that mean that our state and local government is not receiving the revenue needed to run this country.

Hope and Change are coming. However, it is not that which the masses voted for.

‘Face is the index of the mind’ is an old proverb that has undergone a sea of change and in fact a metamorphosis in the modern world. It is true that your face reflects your mood. When you are happy or joyful, your face radiates it and your activities are induced by your happy mood, through your smiles or laughs and through your intention to share and celebrate your happy mood with others; when you are sad or feel sorry, your mood is reflected by your dullness and rigidity, through the outburst of tears that you sheds, when you get isolated from the company of others and when you unusually resort to doping.

Though by nature, your face is endowed with or blessed with the ability of reflecting your feelings, it varies according to your age. When you are a baby or a child, your feelings are reflected quite naturally and also instantaneously get changed, when your mood is changed by the intervention of a third party. As you grow in age, you are somewhat slow in reacting to the given situation and so your face also reflects it slowly.

But in this modern world, due to various extraneous circumstances, you are forced to live rather mechanically or artificially; you are not living by your natural instincts, whether it be your home or it be your office.

When you are living at home in the company of your family members, say your wife and children, you are natural in your behavior with your spouse and so your face reflects it in a natural way according to your mood or feelings, when you are romantic or angry. But, as a responsible parent, your behavior pattern changes when you are dealing with your children. Even though, you are filled with full of love and affection for your children, your face does not overtly expose or express it, since you do not want to create an impression that you are too liberal towards them. Similarly, when you are in an embarrassing economic situation, through your sublime or subdued behavior, you do not want to get yourself exposed lest it will affect your family members. Therefore, it goes without saying, even among your family members, mostly you behave rather artificially and in your day to day life your face does not reflect what you actually feel and so your face is not the index of your mind.

Your behavior pattern in the external world vis-à-vis third parties is entirely different and it is mostly artificial which you may call as business like, tactical, strategic, professional and diplomatic; it is needless to say that in the course of your behavior pattern with the external world, your face has no scope to express your natural feelings.

When you are a business man, in the course of any business conversation that you hold with your customer, your motive for profit predominates and your customer has no scope to gauge it from your facial expression;

When you are a lawyer, when you are dealing with a client’s case and in the course of the arguments of his case, since you are strategic and your motive of winning your client’s case predominates, your face does not reflect the truth even when you are telling lies in the name of defending your client or winning his case.

If you are a doctor, your professional ethics actually determines your behavior pattern and you are sometimes forced to console your patient even with a blatant lie with honey coated words, stating that there is nothing to worry about, even if your patient’s health is actually in a danger zone. Of course, your patient cannot find anything from your facial expression.

Thus in the modern world, due to various extraneous factors, face is not the index of mind.

Price index must take into actual price prevalent in the market. Unfortunately, price index in India is coming down while actual prices are increasing.

Inflation index indicates the overall price situation. It determines the purchasing capacity of a currency. Unfortunately, the index price in India is not in accordance with the actual price trend. While the prices of essential commodities are high, how the price index can be assumed at lower level?

Experts in statistical analysis must make a survey of the market and find out the exact reason for considerable lacuna in showing the correct picture of the price.

When the anomalies in respect fluctuation in prices crisis can be solved? Who should take action. Why remedial measures could not be taken at right direction at right time with right purpose.

The solution is simple. We must conduct a research in respect of prices. Contact consumers and take their opinions regarding prices as they regularly buy commodities and are well aware of the prices. Following measures will be helpful:

Classification of commodities – vegetables, fruits, and consumer durables.

Analyze the causes pertaining to various in prices

Taking the opinions of economists to adopt prudent methods of determining price index

Analyzing the industrial scenario – increased or decreased cost of consumer goods

Analyzing the agricultural products increased or decreased cost due seasonal variations.

Prevailing prices of fuel prices as it has influence in respect of transportation costs.

Involvement of middlemen – from Manufacturer to the ultimate consumer

Involvement of middlemen – from Farmers to the ultimate consumer

If we take into above factors into consideration, prudently, price index can be arrived as accurately as possible.

India is juggling with the figure of inflation rate.

Inflation is word what perhaps a primary school boy is getting use to. So much the pressure of inflation affected all strata of society in India or greater part of the globe. In India as with everything else, even inflation is not without its doze of hypocrisy! It is one of the few countries where a democratic Government juggles with the figure. Most of the developed and developing countries use Consumer Price Index (CPI) to calculate inflation, but for India it is Whole Sale Price Index (WPI). Government`s plea is that they cannot collect the data always on which the CPI is based! Ridiculous! WPI includes 100 out of 435 commodities, what are not important from consumer point view. In fact the retail price what consumer pays is much higher than the wholes sale price. In recent months there has been more than 30% hike in several commodities what are for common consumptions. In some cases it is even 60%! Whereas the latest Government figure declared 11.63% rate of inflation. Imagine the difference and it is not difficult to understand who are enjoying the margin. The traders and hordes of middlemen are enjoying the blessing of inflation. The farmers and the consumers both are at the receiving end.

Well, that is the jugglery on the Government`s part in India. To appease the public tall claims are made that is much lesser than many other countries in Asia like China, Sri Lanka, Vietnam or even Iran. None cares to confirm whether the figures of CPI or WPI being quoted of those countries. However, though the villain is identified as crude price hike but is it only the spiraling crude price to be blamed for? The price of food grains have also gone up to astronomical extent. Let us see the reasons. First of all food crises engulfed the whole of the world now. America or developed nations in Europe are not spared; keep afar the poorest African or Asian countries. The US diverted 20 per cent of its maize production to the production of ethanol; Brazil diverted half of its sugarcane production to make bio fuel. The European Union used the greater part of its vegetable oil besides what imported for production of bio fuel. This also deprived the land what usually produce the food grains; thus resulting in food shortage there.

India even after having banned the major food grains export fails to control its price. In fact India is never a major food grain importer but it is the 2nd largest exporter of rice. It imports 70 per cent of its gross fuel consumption and currently if feat to control petroleum price has already subsidized INR 700,000 millions. This followed a petroleum price hike to fuel inflation further recently.

What fuels the Indian inflation? First of all, the parallel economy that co-exists with visible official economy. It is supposed INR 1200000 millions could not be collected as tax and INR 1500000 millions unpaid loans are floating in the market. They are joyfully participating in speculation. Besides stock exchanges other options available commodity futures; the ocean of black money is yielding pools of white money while jacking up the commodity prices to the level of sky. The poor and penniless are on the verge of devastation due to the surge in the ocean of black money. They match only the tsunami victims.
