A lot of women like me, wants to have that fairytale kind of love story. Who doesn’t want to have a good looking prince on his shinning armour, riding on a white big horse? Right?

Women are naturally romantic, we are emotional, we love surprises and we definitely want to have that Cinderella kind of love story., And to some, having that love story we seek it through the net. Searching for the prince who can lift us from our problems and sweep off our feet away..

I have friends that really found their prince charming through the net. Some of them are happily married and have children. But, I did not let it pass and asked them how did it work? Love from a distance is really hard and take note that they only see each other through web-cams and professing their love through that,.

They said, having that kind of relationship is hard. But, when you communicate everyday , see each other on webcam its like they are together in one place. Talking  to each other on the computer with long hours and headphone are all worth while just to hear your special someone’s voice and face. Honesty and loyalty to each other are one of the foundations with this kind of relationship. If you want the long distance relationship to work, you have to sacrifice your time (because of time difference). 

Even though, you have done all of this it will not still work out if you don’t have that same feeling towards each other. Everything is based on emotions. If both of you are meant for each other, the distance will not matter.

There’s plenty of lying going on online when it comes to dating and finding someone to have that perfect relationship with.  A study conducted at the University of Wisconsin-Madison showed just how much and what can be done about it

The researchers have identified clues as to whether the author was lying or not. They compared the height, weight and age of 78 online daters to the information posted on their online information and photos on four matchmaking websites. Then the researchers conducted a linguistic analysis of the volunteer’s written self-descriptions to reveal patterns that constitute a high probability that the person was lying.

It’s All About “I”

For example, the more deceptive a dater’s profile, the less likely they were to use the first-person pronoun “I.”

“Liars do this because they want to distance themselves from their deceptive statements,” say the researchers.

The liars often employed ‘negation,’ a flip of the language that would restate “happy” as “not sad” or “exciting” as “not boring.” And the liars tended to write shorter self-descriptions in their profiles — a way to evade the truth, or not getting caught by weaving a more tangled web of deception in a longer description. The less they write, say the researchers, the fewer untrue things they may have to remember and support later.

Daters who had lied about their age, height or weight or had included a photo the researchers found to be less than representative of reality, were likely to avoid discussing their appearance in their written descriptions, choosing instead to talk about work or life achievements.

80 Percent Are Lying

In a second part of the study, the researchers asked volunteers to judge the daters’ trustworthiness based only on the written self-descriptions posted on their online profiles. About 80 percent of the 78 profiles in the study lied to some degree.

Weight was the most frequent transgression, with women off by an average of 8.5 pounds and men missing by 1.5 pounds on average. Half lied about their height, and nearly 20 percent changed their age.

The researchers point out that dating online is very different from a face-to-face meeting for several interesting reasons. For example, in online dating, the back-and-forth of an in-person conversation is missing, giving a liar the opportunity to respond at their leisure or not at all. And it’s editable, so the first telling of the story can come out exactly like the profile-writer would like.

The researchers suggest that some day there may be computer software that will tell how likely a potential online dating partner is to be lying, or shading the truth. Until then, it’s still “buyer beware.”

Lets say a man meets a woman in real life.  The woman and the man hit it off, they date.  They indeed edit themselves, are more polite than usual, are smarter, but after time passes, the real deals start to show.  This is not the case on the Internet.  Relationships can go on for a very long time, but you don’t know what is real or not.  All you have to go on is a written edited version of themselves. after a while you decide to meet, and what was once just hype type, becomes reality.  The woman tells the man what he needs to hear, and the man does the same. She tels you she fell in love with you.  You tell her you are penniless.  She does not care about money.  He decides to meet her.

Now when it becomes reality, she might be slightly over weight but the man never says a word, because his full head of hair is missing in action.  The other thing that may happen once the web world becomes a reality, is that for some strange reason, one might age slightly, maybe that’s just because of oxygen or and gravity. Now the macho man may not be all he pretended to be, and his sex drive might just not take a day to renew, but weeks.  The woman might just drink a bit, and take five muscle relaxers to unwind from her adventures on the net all day and night.  Ok, so you figure some flaws would be inevitable.  So the man now spends some quality time with his new romance, and the woman spills her guts, because you asked her about past romance.  She says she only been with six men.  Ok, you can live with that number.  Then she adds that they all raped her, her step father molested her when she was a teenager, and her daughter was here because of one of those rapes.  Then she pops a few more pills, downs a bottle of tequila and starts to chant in old American Indian, and if that isn’t enough, she starts to cleanse the house of ghosts which she says she does every night without fail.  The man asks her, if she had such powers, why wouldn’t she only need to do that once?  The woman asks when he was going to get a job?  The man remembers what she said when he told her he had no money, it doesn’t matter.  She starts to set appointments on line to get random visits from random men who would pay cash just to be with her for an hour or so. The man packs his bags, and points his car to Mexico and never looks back.

You see, what is real is what happen to you every day, not on the Internet.  The Internet is a place to read, nothing more.  You may make connections, with people who are interested in what you have to say, but they have no interest in meeting.  They enjoy funny moments, care when you get ill, or lose a loved one, but the fast romances found on line, are usually made by the lonely set. People, trust me when I say, if you sit at that computer for more then a few hours, that is the reason you are lonely.  Get out in the real world, meet real people, and have a ball.  This is life, and how it was before the Internet came along. You don’t have to edit yourself in the real world.  For that matter, when you are on line, never edit yourself, if someone is going to like you, let them do so because of you, not for who you pretend to be.  Keep your picture real, for the beauty will shine through no matter who you are or what you look like.  Good luck, and keep it real.

These two acts limit our freedom and ability to do certain things over the World Wide Web. Not sure if any of you heard, but Wikipedia had a black out opposing these two bills. And Google, they blocked out their homepage banner. Not sure what other sites did but the effort or thought was good enough. S.O.P.A, and P.I.P.A, are just plain out stupid, and bad. For one thing they will censor the Internet VERY much, and hurt economic growth, possibly even kill jobs that some people had.

I can’t remember the congressmen’s name exactly. But anyway, back to the point. I posted this article for some feedback, and ideas or whatever else you all might have. So just post some comments below, and let’s start a discussion as to what we all think.

ACTA is of course, not a bill like SOPA, but an international trade agreement that sets standards for the enforcement of intellectual property rights.  Unlike SOPA, the focus of ACTA is enforcement of larger-scale copyright infringements.  So while it is not a law that says who can and who can’t be defined as theives of intellectual property, it encourages those that sign it to create such laws, and crack down harder on those who break them.

Surely if the United States had signed such an agreement we would have heard about it, right?  Nope.  The United States signed ACTA on it’s day of birth, on October 1, 2011.  Citizens were not informed of this not because of some distraction such as SOPA or the Occupy Protests, but because the various governments that signed it decided it was better to keep it a secret.  It was only during the turbulence of SOPA when ACTA was exposed to the majority of the citizens of the countries who signed the agreement.  Some other governments who have also signed include Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, and 22 members of the European Union.

Protests have already sprung up across the globe, with the most fierce gatherings in Europe.  This also comes to show why internet activists are still so up in arms about the copyright issues with protests such as Black March.

Well, I know this article is not that long, but I just wanted to write this. I do enjoy watching those shows because I am a big horror movie fan, but to believe in it does not make any sense. Like I said, the technology we have today can make anything look real and possible. 

ICE has found a loophole in the law which allowed them to seize the domains of over 300 websites which were suspected of intending to stream the Super Bowl or sell Super Bowl merchandise. They have been grated the power through section 2323 of the United States Code to seize any domain or website which they “think” is distributing any copyrighted material with the ease of obtaining a search warrant. ICE does not need to give ANY prior notification to anyone running a website that such action is going to take place. Only after the site is shut down can a person file a case with the court system. A writ of replevin would need to be heard before the court to prove their site was not used for the distribution of copyrighted material.

GET READY TO GIVE UP YOUR FREEDOM

The broad interpretation and enforcement of these laws opens the door for any agency enacted by the government to seize anything from your homes which may have. Let’s explore a scenario. You go to E-bay and bid on a used copy of Star Wars on blue ray. You don’t know it but the person you bought it from sold a bootleg copy of Steel Magnolias a year ago. Under the provisions of these laws, ICE would be able to seize your entire blue ray collection, your computers and any other electronic device related to entertainment from your home without prior notification or your consent and you would have to convince a judge that you did not purchase any of those items illegally or with the intent to distribute them illegally.

I know this sound a little too much like “Big Brother” watching over us, but this is how they were able to shut these sites down. How long will it be before they decide to expand the enforcement of these laws to shut down people that see these things going on and decide to write about it?
