Michael Jackson's death had an impact on the world so we can only imagine what his family continues to go through. Sadly, most of the recent talk is about his autopsy photographs.

Michael Jackson lived a very tough life even up to his passing on June 25, 2009. He stated in an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey that he endured abuse from his father, Joe Jackson, when he would make a mistake during rehearsal. He even recalled a time where his father came into his bedroom through his window with a mask on. Michael claimed to have had nightmares from that point on. He was eventually accused of molestation in 1993, and again later on. He was in the media for dangling his child over a balcony, which, in my opinion, was completely blown out of proportion.

I’m not going to deny the fact that Michael Jackson was strange in appearance and had some equally strange encounters with the media, but regardless, he is still a human being just like the rest of us. He is a father, a son, and a brother. He was a friend and he was a mentor. You should respect his life just as you would respect your own family member’s life.

Michael Jackson has been joked about, put down, and has been the source of humility in the media for what was the remainder of his life. There comes a point when this ridicule and cruelty must stop. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem as though it will cease anytime soon. Why must people feel the need to degrade Michael even after death? What if this were your family? How would you feel if your brother or your son passed away, only to have their autopsy photographs show up in every store that you step foot? Must we torment him any longer?

Unfortunately, there has been a ridiculous amount of talk about Michael Jackson’s autopsy and autopsy photographs. The Sun released an autopsy report describing what bad shape Michael Jackson was in. The LA Coroner’s Office dismissed this report, claiming that it was “inaccurate” and also stated that “some of it is completely false”. Regardless of whether this information was false or not, people cannot stand it until they have acquired some sort of information, even if it hurts the ones closest to Michael, in order to make money.

In more recent news, there was a tabloid claiming that they had purchased photographs of a deceased Michael Jackson from the UCLA Medical Center. There have been no confirmed reports that this is true, but more rumors are surfacing telling people to “be on the look out” for Michael Jackson’s death photos in news stands near you.

Michael has paid his dues to society and this is why he passed. His job here was done. It is our job to remember him for what we know and what we know is his music. We, as society, do not know him personally. It is also our job to respect his family in their time of mourning. It is not our responsibility, nor is it our right to judge Michael for the life that he lived when we know nothing first-hand.

I can only pray that God have mercy on our souls for being so cruel and disrespectful to a man after death. And I also pray that Michael Jackson may rest in peace. He has lived a tough life and he is actually lucky to no longer be here and live with the torment of society and the media alike. Now he is gone and although many of us wish his passing wasn’t so soon and wish he were here, remember what Stevie Wonder said at the memorial, “God must have needed him much more.” Michael will forever remain a legend.

This article is about the untimely death of the King of Pop.

The death of Michael Jackson was one that was shocking to the nation and to the world. Michael Jackson lived majority of his life in the spotlight. He was the main member of the famous boy band called the Jackson 5 which was started by their father Joe Jackson.

Michael’s death was surely untimely and it was also preventable. Dr. Conrad Murray was Michael Jackson’s physician. He was paid a lot of money to tend to the medical needs of Jackson. In my opinion, he failed him.

According to the LA Coroner’s office autopsy report of Michael Joseph Jackson, Dr. Murray administered a large enough dose of Propofol to cause the death of Michael Jackson. Anytime Propofol is administered it should be given in a hospital setting not a bedroom. It’s to be administered in a hospital because there is proper resuscitation equipment there that if needed it could be used.

It doesn’t matter if Dr. Murray was under pressure by Michael to administer the drug. Dr. Murray should have known that what he was doing on June 25, 2009 would ultimately cause the death of the greatest singer and performer that ever lived.

With the release of Michael Jackson's new movie - "This is it" comes a whole new set of conspiracy theories that range from his death being faked in order to secure the star's privacy to manipulation of sound and picture in the film.

Michael Jackson - The King of Pop, is quickly becoming the newest pop icon to have death conspiracy theories spring up faster than postings on a Facebook page. Just like Paul McCartney of the Beatles, Elvis and Amelia Earhart, celebrity deaths or disappearances often stir up hypothesises that often point to some other explanation of their demise rather than the reality.

Paul McCartney was rumored to have died when the Beatles released their Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band album. The rumor was fueled by several items.

1. The Sgt. Pepper Album had Paul standing with his band mates in front of a large collection of people. Paul happened to be placed exactly in front of a guy whose open hand, palm facing out, was over Paul’s head. Apparently this is a sign of death in some cultures. Not sure which ones.

2. On the cover of the Abbey Road album the band is walking across the street, supposedly away or perhaps towards, a graveyard. Lennon was dressed in a white suit (priest-like), Ringo dressed in a suit similar to what an undertaker would wear, George was wearing jeans and a jean shirt as if he was the grave digger and Paul was attired in a nice suit but because he was barefoot, the way a person is buried in England (I guess), he was again rumored to have died.

3. On the Magical Mystery Tour Album, the Fab Four were garbed as various animals with Paul donning a black walrus costume. Apparently somewhere in the world a culture considers black walruses a symbol of death. I suppose if you’re a fish this would be apropos.

In addition to the album photos, tracks on the record could be played backwards to reveal hidden messages. One such track had John speaking after a song where, when played backwards, he is reported to say “I buried Paul”.

Even though each album was recorded at different times, their release corresponding to tour dates and concerts to be held in conjunction to said distribution and each rumor completely denied, fans still believed Paul to be dead. Even when John confessed that the recording of him speaking on the record didn’t say “I buried Paul” but was in fact merely the peace loving Beatle repeating the words “Cranberry Sauce”, people continued to think McCartney was gone.

Elvis died while going to the bathroom. His heart, weaken after years of prescription drug abuse, and a high cholesterol count due to a lifetime diet of fried banana sandwiches, bar-b-queue, liquor and god know what else he could ingest, finally gave out. This kind of unseemly death was hardly fitting for the King of Rock and Roll so it was understandable for his fans to react by denying he had left the planet.

Unfortunately The King’s untimely demise gave way to a rash of “Elvis sightings”. People to this day still claim to have seen Elvis in any manner of positions from gas station attendant to sitting in some dinner in the Pacific Northwest chowing down on some chicken and waffles.

And Amelia Earhart, whose intrepid flight around the world was cut short by her plane falling out of the sky somewhere over the Pacific Ocean or perhaps crashed on an uncharted island, has for years been under speculation of her possible survival. Since no wreckage was ever found it was plausible. No body, no death.

In Michael Jackson’s case we have a popular entertainer, revered and ridiculed by fans and foes alike, making a come back after years of isolation, suddenly die of a drug induced heart attack. Unlike Elvis and McCartney, Jackson was on the come back trail and everything pointed to MJ being in excellent condition. He had his own doctor attending to his every need, round the clock, had a personal trainer in the form of Lou Ferrigno and was constantly monitored for the slightest case of the sniffles. How could it be that the greatest Pop star of the modern age could suddenly just die without any real mitigating circumstances?

Famous pilot Earhart was in the middle of her greatest moment when she disappeared but unlike Jackson, she had no reason to escape the civilized world and had in fact embraced her fame and desired more of it. Jackson was known for being a loner and detested the constant spotlight that shown on his day in and day out. Could Michael be pulling off the greatest famous person escape to date? Such a feat has never really been successfully attempted and contrary to the conspiracy theorists, all deaths are real and not disappearances, whether they be escapes via drop out or alien abduction.

Unlike Elvis, there hasn’t been any real Michael Jackson sighting. Shortly after his death there was a video posted on the Internet that purported to show the ambulance that Jackson was supposed to have transported him to the hospital. The tape showed the vehicle stop at the emergency entrance whereby a person in a white shirt, black sacks and long black hair, get out of the back and rush inside. This was quickly discovered to be a hoax as the elation of millions of fans suddenly fell like a star into the ocean.

But Jacko would not be above pulling off this kind of stunt. It was widely known that Michael had deep financial troubles, had a great dislike of the paparazzi and was extremely shy even if he was able to be a ball of excitement while on stage. In private he was very closed off to outsiders and after his battle with the law over several child molestation cases, no one could blame him for wanting to jump off the face of the earth and be done with society at large. After he shut down Neverland, his prized sanctuary, he fled to Dubai where he could be free of the ever present media and, some thought, to be free to avail himself of his cardinal pleasures. It took a tremendous effort to get Michael to come back to the States and once he did the plans for his return to pop stardom began to take shape. Was this a true come back or a way to be rid of the restraints on his life and a way to excise his demons.

If Michael Jackson did wish to end his celebrity life this might be a way to go. Let’s examine the situation:

1. MJ sets up what is touted as the biggest come back / farewell tour ever in selected, fan – friendly cities.

2. He is heard to be working extremely hard to prepare both physically and mentally for the show. This sets up the premise that although his body has been racked with pain, he pushes on, some say to far.

3. Everything for his tour is being filmed. This could be explained as just another documentary however the amount of footage that was shot is argued to be way beyond that required for a simple behind the scenes flick.

4. It is rumored that Jackson was having tremendous difficulty keeping up with the work load. Was this a precursor to speculation of a weakened condition?

5. Massive insurance had been taken out by the promoters of the show to cover any possibility of Jackson not being able to perform. Jackson’s own life insurance has yet to be discussed in what it covered and how much his estate brought in from his death.

6. Again rumors surface that the Jackson show will be the best ever but some think he is not up to top form. No footage of the up coming concert is leaked to dispel these reports which would have easily quelled the static and may have raised interest in ticket sales and further concert dates.

7. Before the launch of the tour Jackson suddenly dies from a heart attack while asleep in the presence of his personal physician, a cardiac specialist.

8. Even before the paramedic arrive the news of his death is broadcast by gossip show TMZ and followed up by the local and then International news outlets. The recorded 911 call shows a member of Jackson’s staff calmly talking to the dispatch about the condition of the “victim”. Jackson’s identity was not revealed at the time. The 911 operator asks if the victim is conscious and is told that a doctor is performing CPR although he is doing it on the bed instead of on the floor where even the newest EMT would know was the correct place to do it. The fact that a cardiologist was performing CPR incorrectly seems suspect.

9. Later details of Jackson’s cause of death reveal that the doctor had been giving Jackson frequent administrations of anesthetic for everything from simple acne treatments to helping the pop star sleep. Over doses could put a person in a coma. If a trained doctor could induce a coma, enough where the victim seemed to have stopped breathing, it would be a simple matter to transport the person, on a gurney, wearing an oxygen mask into an ambulance. To any outsider, i.e. the press, it would appear the victim was dead.

10. Upon the announcement of Jackson’s death his “stock” rose to unparalleled levels. Sales of his songs shot through the roof and memorabilia of any kind related to MJ was and still is going at unprecedented prices. All this within a few short days after his demise and within that time the financial debt that hung over Jackson like a black cloud completely disappeared.

11. His estate now worth multi-millions of dollars and growing is set up to take care of his family and his children. But if the pop star wasn’t really dead, how could he leave his kids behind? Not long after his funeral service it was revealed, or speculated, that Jackson was not the father of his own kids.

12. No photos of Michael Jackson’s autopsy have been leaked. When JFK was killed it wasn’t long before images of the President, stretched out on the morgue operating slab had been released. If we can get pictures of a slain United States President’s open skull, with all the security warranted to the highest office in the land at a time when the media actually cooperated with the government, how is it we can’t get photos of a pop star being examined?

13. Jackson’s funeral was a closed casket affair and a huge media event to boot. Usually when a famous person dies and the cause of death doesn’t disfigure them, they have an open casket for the wake where fans, friends and family can pay their last respects. If Michael died of a heart attack, why wouldn’t he be allowed to be displayed for all the world to see and grieve? If privacy and respect were the reasons for the casket being closed then why was his funeral made into such a full blown spectacle?

14. During the media event of Jackson’s funeral some very odd things came to mind. A) His funeral was put together in an amazing fashion. It was unheard of that such an event, with all the logistical requirements and preparations could ever have been completed, and without a hitch, in short a short time with nary a moment’s notice. B) The funeral was more show than service as the cast from his concert sang songs and celebrity friends gave fully prepared speeches. C) Jackson’s entire family seemed very controlled and calm. Although there was genuine sadness, usually when such a beloved individual is taken by death without warning, the shock itself is enough to warrant outpouring of tears and the wailing of sorrow. The family and even the kids were fairly steady through out the ceremony and afterwards. D) Joe Jackson, during the media funeral services hardly showed any kind of remorse or sadness and even went so far as to whore out his newest venture. Although never known as the most tactful of people, his blatant self-promotion during the funeral of his most popular son has got to be the biggest dick move – ever.

15. Finally, the release of the new film, This Is It, comes hot on the heels of Michael Jackson’s death. The speed, of which the movie was put together, the fast track it was given for distribution and the amount of publicity it has generated for pre-promotion, is unprecedented in Hollywood. It’s as if this has been planned for a long time.

With all that Michael Jackson had to endure during his lifetime it’s not a small wonder that he would want to cast off his media persona for a more quiet life. Given his experience in plastic surgery would it be that hard to have his face completely altered? With the amount of money his death has generated for his estate, could it be unheard of that his family would support his vanishing and be able to funnel funds to wherever he decided to reside? Like Dubai where he would be shielded from the prying eyes of the media?

Would anybody blame him?

This is an expository writing I wrote on my English 14 class.

He is known as “Most Successful Entertainer at All Time” - a 13 Grammy Award winner, has 13 number one singles in his solo career and the sale of 750 Million records wordlwide.

Michael Joseph Jackson, the 7th child of the Jackson Family, born on August 29, 1958 and died on June 25, 2009. He is an american recording artist and entertainer.

MJ had his debut on 1968 as a member of Jackson 5 and later started his solo career on 1971 and referred to as “King of Pop.”

In 1982 his album “Thriller” hits the best selling album of all time. Then later, he released “Off The Wall” (1979), “Bad” (1987), “HIStory” (1995) his solo albums. In early 80’s he became a dominant figure in popular music and known as first African American entertainer. His song “Beat It”, “Billie Jean”, and “Thriller”, are featured and aired in MTV, transforming music video from a promotional tool. Also the “Black or White” and “Scream” made him an enduring staple on MTV on the late 90’s.

MJ popularized a number of physically complicated dance techniques including the “robot” and “moonwalk.” His style influenced hip-hop, pop & contemporary R&B. I like the fact that he donated, raised millions of dollars for beneficial causes through his foundations, charity singles, and he supported 39 charities. That’s the positive side of his life but there’s something that bothers me and this is his changing of appearances, his eccentric behavior which made a controversy that damaged his public image. In 1993 he was accused of child sexual abuse but the investigation was closed due to lack of evidences. He has health concerns since early 90’s and conflicting reports regarding the state of his finances. He is married twice and has brought up 3 childrens and again, his actions caused controversy.

Sexual abuse allegations and several charges chased him, and again had a controversy in the year 2005. But again, he stand and make his way into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. He also make a multiple Guinness World Records.

Michael Jackson is preparing for “This Is It”, a series of 50 concerts that would have been held in London beginning July 13, 2009. But unfortunately he died before his prepared concert.

Looking at his works, achievements and controversy, I have a question in mind if MJ is a good influence or a bad influence? But whether good or bad, we can’t change the fact that he became a part of history. And besides, we can’t judge a person as if we know him a lot.

Michael Jackson, is he a good or bad influence? Whatever you may think of him, he is still a part of generations history.

The case can be made that the King of Pop isn't dead but just decided to drop out of society due to too much pressure, the media's humiliation of his reputation and an unending desire to be able to live a normal, peaceful life.

Ever since it was first announced by tabloid gossip mongers TMZ, the death of Michael Jackson was almost immediately met with skepticism as to the legitimacy of his demise. After all here was a 50 year old man that never had a history of heart or circulation problems, all of a sudden being stricken down by cardiac arrest. Since most victims of heart failure usually have some symptoms or predilection for the heart disease like being obese, have a family history, don’t live a healthy lifestyle, have diabetes and the list goes on. None of these things was MJ known to suffer from.

The first analysis of his downfall tell of a person tirelessly working to regain his past greatness and how this stress, both physical and mental was the cause for his eminent heart attack.

Nonsense.

Michael Jackson had spent his entire life dancing, singing and working his craft like a professional athlete and although there have been cases where even the most in shape person has been stricken down by an arterial explosion, the likely-hood of this happening to Michael is somewhat suspect.

Even during his memorial it seemed as if he would suddenly pop out of his golden casket as a way to promote his latest tour. But alas it was not to be.

Perhaps the real truth behind all the coverage is that the King of Pop was tired. Tired of defending himself from a world that had turned on his greatness because of allegation of pedophilia which had tarnished his iconic image forever and tired of living in his own shadow, never being able to play in the sun without the heat from the paparazzi always trying to burn him.

So lets look at some things that might make the idea of Michael Jackson faking his own death as a way of escaping his tortured life plausible.

MJ was forever trying to relive a childhood that he never had. When he was attacked and accused of molesting the very children his held so dear he was forced to give up the one place on earth where he felt safe, secure and at peace – Neverland. Without Neverland he became a nomad, wondering from place to place, never really fitting in and never being able to find a home – except perhaps in Du Bai.

He was under constant surveillance. This was a person that couldn’t even open a window curtain without dozens of people and cameras invading his privacy. His life wasn’t just under the microscope it was magnified and displayed on the global stage for any little thing and while other celebrates experience similar invasions, Michael had to have even to most minuet item become an excuse for the media to regurgitate the past allegations.

He was considered a has-been musically. As much as the media fawned over his genius and recounted his many contributions to music, culture and society as a whole, prior to his “death” he was viewed as washed up and merely a freakshow. Before his announced perishing, it was a rare occasion that a radio station would play a Michael Jackson song unless it was an oldies format or old school urban play-list. As soon as he was declared dead you couldn’t tune in to a station without hearing at least one song if not his entire collection. After his death MJ suddenly became relevant and his talent was recognized for the brilliance it had. After years of relative obscurity Michael Jackson became hip again.

He needed the money. Reports of Michael Jackson’s wealth varied from being worth close to half a billion dollars to being bankrupt. His beloved Neverland was put up for sale, perhaps it was because he could never call it home again or perhaps because he was in desperate need of cash. Not having a hit record in over a decade and his flamboyant style of living creates a lot of debt. A sudden surge of popularity would increase his holdings and in fact the day of his death Michael Jackson’s albums took the top 8 spots on iTunes music stores creating a tsunami of wealth in a very short time. The revenue generated by other MJ memorabilia, royalties that go directly to Michael’s estate was staggering by previous years income and has not waned as of yet.

Fast action by family and friends. In a matter of hours Michael’s family had his entire residence emptied and placed in storage and just as quickly a star-studded memorial was put together that could rival most head liner concerts. For more acts and sporting event the Staple Center has to be booked well in advance and yet it took just a day or so to have the venue secured, a multi-media presentation put together, musicians, dancers and singers hired -rehearsed and ready for a show stopping extravaganza. There are military operations that can’t be put together that quickly and without a hitch.

Emotional content. Although it can be said that the Jackson family is a very tight knit group and have a great deal of love for each other, it is because of this fact that the lack of a complete emotional breakdown by members of the family and close friends weren’t displayed. During the memorial service there were tears and Jackson’s beautiful daughter gave a very heartfelt performance but given her rhetoric was said many times before there was a sense that this could be an act. A front so as to disguise the true nature of the event, one that gives the King of Pop a smoke screen from which to disappear.

Michael Jackson gave the world more than music, he gave us his life and whether he has gone to heaven or to the far reaches of the Du Bai he and his music will be missed forever. Hopefully where ever he is has has finally found peace.

To understand the actions of Michael Jackson you will have to take a closer look at his life.

Image via Wikipedia

Since his death Michael Jackson’s life has been put on display for all to see. Everyone from bloggers to the media have examined every facet of the pop star’s past. Though some of his behavior could be considered strange by societal standards, only within the context of Jackson’s life can they be truly understood.

Neverland Ranch

By the end of the 1980’sMichael Jackson had everything that anyone would want. Fame, fortune and worldwide recognition were all his. The only thing that was missing was a place to call home so in 1988 he bought the Sycamore Valley Ranch in beautiful Santa Barbara County California and renamed it Neverland Ranch.

Jackson named it for the mythical place in Peter Pan, a place where children never grow up. Why was he so taken with the story about a land where children stay young forever? To understand you must take a look at his life.

Michael Jackson was introduced to the world of entertainment at the tender age of five. His older brothers had already been singing in a group that their father had formed called the Jackson Boys when it was discovered that Michael could sing also. He soon joined the group along with his brother Marlon and the Jackson 5 was born.

From that time on, Michael was onstage performing. Going to school, long hours of rehearsal, recording sessions and performing left Jackson with literally no time to enjoy the things of childhood. In a 1993 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Jackson recalled a playground that was across the street from the recording studio and how much he wanted to go over there to play.

Unlike his brothers, Michael Jackson was denied many of the pleasures of early childhood. Jermaine, Tito and Jackie were several years older and had gone through most of their adolescence when their singing group was formed. Michael was just a boy and as he grew older he never forgot about all the things he missed out on.

When Jackson began to put his signature on Neverland he did not hold back. When he was finished it had it’s own zoo, theme park, ferris wheel, super slide, kiddie roller coaster and more. A kid’s dream…..Jackson’s dream.

It was evident that Michael wanted to try to recapture a part of his childhood. Did he go overboard? Maybe a little but who are we to judge? Who is to say how we would react if most of our childhood experiences had been stripped away. As it is, many adults who had a normal childhood revert back to childlike behavior when they have the chance. And how many would do almost the same thing if they had the means and opportunity?

Michael Jackson missed out on his childhood and he wasn’t afraid to say it and he wasn’t afraid to do something about it. He showed courage in the face of worldwide criticism for “acting like a kid”.

The truth is, we are all kids at heart when it gets down to it. I, for one, would love to be able to live like a kid with no responsibilities. How many people play the lottery everyday in hopes of winning, so that they could do the same thing as Jackson…..live like a king.

Many times when adults attend children’s parties they end up having more fun than the children themselves.

Michael Jackson was not as strange as he was made out to be, he just had the means and the opportunity to go to a different level than most people.

An explaination what Asexuality is.

Since Brooke Shield talked about her Asexual relationship with Michael Jackson, Asexuality has got an enormous publicity boost.

A lot of people don’t know what Asexuality is:

Asexuality appears in all sorts of relationships as hetero, bisexual, homo relationships

If a relationship is asexual 1 or more persons of the relationship don’t have any urge to have sexual intercourse with each other. This person do have love feelings and all the other feelings that appear in a normal relationship, the only thing that misses is the urge for sex.

You get asexuality when you are being born, if you think sex is filthy and naugthy you are probably not asexual but you just have negative perspectives about sex, the main reasons that these perspectives exist are:

Your parents always said it was filthy and unhealthy

You have got a trauma from your childhood (incest etc.)

But asexuals don’t think sex is gross, they just aren’t interested in sex. Many of asexual people just accepted it.

Famous people who are believed to be asexual are:

Michael Jackson

Cliff Richard

Morrisey

Tim Gunn

and more.

Micheal Jackson is believed to be asexual because when he did a performance in a strip club with the Jackson 5 his brothers often peek through curtains and holes to see the employees of the club dancing, Michael self just red a book or listened too music.

About the other celebritys people are quite sure they were asexual and some of the celebritys just admitted that they are asexual and that they are fine with it.

Denied a childhood of his own, by his demanding father, did Michael molest young boys? We will never know, but maybe he left clues in a song he describes as Biographical.

Born August 29, 1958, Michael Jackson was thrust into the media spotlight at a very young age. He died June 25, 2009. The figure he most identified with was Peter Pan. Friends say that even at age 50, Micheal was still very child like.

Michaels father, Joe Jackson was the driving force behind his sons early fame and success. Himself, a a wannabe famous musician, it is likely he was living his dream through his children. Reportedly he made his children practice constantly. Eventually pushing five, including Michael, of the nine children to form “The Jackson 5”.

When they were not in school, they were practicing, when they were not practicing, they were playing music in bars and strip clubs. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 1993, Michael opened up and spoke about physical and mental abuse that took place at the hands of his father. He spoke of never having what would be considered as a “childhood”.

Could it be that the missing out of a childhood, the ability to act as a child, is at the root of any later problems Michael may have had?

Not only did Michael build a park most children could only dream of, Neverland Ranch, but he surrounded himself mostly with children. He even spoke openly to the fact it thought it was normal, and healthy, to share his bed with children. Although he denied there was anything sexual about it, others saw this as a sexual act and Michael was eventually accused of molesting boys. In court he was found innocent in a 2003 court case. An earlier civil case was settled when Michael made a payment to the family of his accuser.

Did Michael really molest young children? Without photographic evidence the world will never truly know. However, if it did happen, it could have easily been the result of a grown man, in a child’s body, trying desperately to to recapture a lost innocence.

Michael Jackson has often said the song that is the most biographical is his song “Childhood”.

Perhaps these lines from the song tell it all:

“…Before you judge me, try hard to love me,

Look within your heart then ask,

Have you seen my childhood?

People say I’m strange that way,

‘Cause I love such elementary things,

It’s been my fate to compensate,

for the childhood I’ve never known…”

(excerpt from Michael Jacksons song, Childhood)

Photosource http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Michael_Jackson2_2006.jpg

Without a doubt the world lost a talented musician on June 25, 2009, Michael lost his childhood years earlier, and certainly a lost childhood is never a good thing.

Michael Jackson was a legend in his own lifetime; his music will live on. The King of pop has now abdicated. His death came as a shock. He will be remembered fondly, his back catalogue of music will see to that. Michael Jackson was right up there at the top. His death, like John Lennon’s and Elvis Presley’s, will be felt all around the world and quite rightly so.

From the early beginnings at the age of 11 with the Jackson 5, right the way through his 1980’s success, into the 90’s and beyond, Jackson has always been at the forefront of the music industry. It seemed that not a day would go by without some news being reported on him. Not always positive, but now is not time to dwell on that. The time now is to remember just how influential his music was.

His personal life may have been filled with accusations, filled with bizarre and odd behaviour; a monkey called Bubbles, a marriage to Elvis Presley’s daughter; he once owned the Beatles back catalogue. He had an amusement park in his garden. Cliff Richard may have been labelled the ‘Peter Pan of pop’ but a case could surely have been made to give that title to Jackson. Fortunately though it is as the King of pop that he will and should always be remembered.

Michael Jackson (Image via Wikipedia)

I don’t think I could do justice to the real story behind his life so I am not going to bother. Instead I will share some of my fondest memories of Michael Jackson.

The first album I ever owned by Michael Jackson was Bad. I used to find that quite a humorous title because, being aged 7 at the time, I realised it was actually very good. There was something about those songs, something about the style that gripped me. It was between then and his next solo album (1991’s Dangerous) that I started to learn more about this musical genius. Looking back to his earlier solo stuff and then even further to the Jackson 5 stuff. It was amazing.

They used to show the Jackson 5 TV programme in the UK on a Saturday morning when I was growing up. It was on early but I never missed it because I was always up early because I played football. Eating my breakfast, watching the Jacksons; great. I remember his famous world tour, sponsored by Pepsi.

I saw the film Smooth Criminal in a very small cinema many, miles away in Fort William, I was blown away. Of course by this time I knew more about the man behind the music. The jokes were doing the rounds, to some he was a laughing matter, someone to be mocked, but irrespective of that his music was untouchable.

It seemed though, as time went by, that Michael Jackson personally was going slightly off the rails. He almost became messianic, or at least pretended he was. Who can ever forget the Brit Awards in 1996. There he was on stage, surrounded by children, singing ‘Earth Song’. He was standing posed in a position very reminiscent of Jesus on the cross. The song itself seamed very preachy.

It was at this point that Jarvis Cocker, lead singer of Britpop band Pulp, invaded the stage. Jumping on to the front of the stage and wiggling his backside to the audience. He latterly claimed he did it as a protest against the almost messianic performance by Jackson. Perhaps it was wrong for Cocker to jump on stage, but it did seem somehow justified to many who saw it.

It could be argued, that one incident was the catalyst for Jackson’s musical downfall from then on in. The hits were not coming, his personal life was becoming more problematic. The media on many occasion were right there to put the King of Pop down. Despite all of his problems, one thing remained intact; the reputation of his music.

One thing that is for certain, Michael Jackson was a legend, his music should keep that legendary status going on for many more years. Let us not forget the music. Yes Michael Jackson was certainly ‘Off The Wall’, he may well have been ‘Dangerous’, but he was always a ‘Thriller’ and one thing is for certain, his music was certainly not ‘Bad’.

Michael Jackson: August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009. R.I.P
