Two-thirds of all deaths worldwide are related to non-communicable diseases: diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease ... This is revealed by the World Health Statistics 2011 released Friday, May 13th by the World Health Organization (WHO).

“The fight against risk factors such as smoking, physical inactivity, poor nutrition and alcohol abuse is becoming increasingly critical,” says WHO. Today, four out of 10 men and 1 woman in 11 in the world use tobacco, and about 12% of adults are obese.

In addition, many developing countries are still grappling with health problems such as pneumonia, diarrhea and malaria. These are the biggest causes of death among children under 5 years. “We must do much more to achieve the Millennium Development Goals by the target date of 2015,” insists the UN agency.

Its leaders are pleased, however, some progress in recent years. Since 2000, infant mortality decreased by 2.7% per year on average. For children under 5 years, it increased from 12.4 million in 1990 to 8.1 million in 2009. As for maternal mortality, it decreased by 3.3% per year over the same period. These topics will be the focus of discussions at the 64th World Health Assembly, which opens today in Geneva.

The California will soon be pure juice with the poster of "Bad Teacher", a crazy comedy in which she plays a teacher to say the least perturbed. For the occasion, we will have increased our Oral great! Its commitment to the planet to surf, she reveals the secrets of his well-being.

In “Bad Teacher”, your new film, you play alongside Justin Timberlake a horrible teacher with her students and has opera in horror. To relax, what kind of music do you listen?

I tried to listen to Puccini, but after fifteen minutes, I begin to boil inside! (Laughs). I think my ears need a little more intense music. I opt for the hard-bottom! Nothing better than bands like Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osborne, AC / DC, Poison, Ratt and Whitesnake to relax! The music in me a euphoric effect. And the more decibels are fully seat the more it produces endorphins in me!

Your character in “Bad Teacher” dream of the breasts more prominent. At the point of making a fixette. What do you think women find their fulfillment in cosmetic surgery?

To use cosmetic surgery, in my case, was never an obsession. First of all because I’m not sure that people who go under the knife do for themselves, but rather unconsciously to others. Finally, the canons of beauty are constantly changing. Take the breasts. Five years ago, all the women wanted to get breast implants tend “pumpkin”. It was the fashion of big lolo. In Africa, women perceive their breasts as a means “nurturing” while in our countries, it is more a part of our body allowing men to fantasize about us! Personally, I am pleased with the size of my breasts. I assume that from the moment you come in the course of things at one time or another, you run the risk of disrupting a good mechanical …

You will next year pass the Cape of quarantine. Have you prepared for this term?

I do not think! The passage of dozens, it’s a bit like shifting a car: it must be done automatically, and above all of course. If you focus on your camera gear, you may cause fits and starts and losing control of your car. Whereas if you do not mind, your speed is smooth and pleasant. It’s the same with the weight of years, we should not think about it! And I do not look at the mileage, but those to go. I drive straight ahead without asking questions! As you strive to look back, it increases the chances of crashing.

To get the form – without the forms – you deal yourself a certain diet?

For years I was the anti-Kate Moss. I ate like a horse. My diet was to summarize: bagels, eggsMcMuffins, pumpkin soup with fresh cream, chocolate biscuits, sandwiches stuffed with banana and topped with peanut butter. My guilty pleasure is especially the fries. Was more bold, more I liked it. I was so addicted to fried foods I sauces oil at the bottom of the plate. All this without taking a single kilo. I should then have a metabolism of hell! Today, I’m more excess cash because my body so well. The “junk food” is finished. I eat organic because I like to know where and how products are the foods I eat.

Viewers were able to see you surf in the movie “Charlie’s Angels.” Since you have taken a liking to the sport. How do you feel when you’re on a board?

It is a very pleasurable sensation. How would you say is as thou the Gods! There is a sense of being between heaven and earth, as in weightlessness. It’s very impressive. You feel dwarfed by the forces of nature. This reminds me a little David to Goliath, which is measured. Then two options for you. You go. Or you regain the shore at top speed!

Surfers are they eco-citizens do you?

I do not know many riders who like to swim with plastic bags! When you do this sport, you need to adhere to ethics to match. And this ethic requires respect for the environment. In 60-70 years, yes, hippie surfers leave their trash on the beach because they were not aware of the impact that their actions could have. Today, attitudes have changed in the middle of surfing. People come with their bags and leave with their garbage!
This love of Mother Nature, the desire to ride the wave green, you come from?

From a childhood spent camping with my parents, the great outdoors. Do not forget that I am in California and the surf and the ocean has always been part of my daily life. Kid, I dreamed of working in marine biology. At seven, I had even planned to open a clinic in the resuscitation of goldfish! (Laughs).

Short! I grew up at the touch of a nature that was still relatively preserved in my time, but when I see what state it is today, I feel like crying. The ice cap melts at high speed to deforest our forests, our water tables are poisoned by pesticides, if not catastrophic so what is it?

You’re also part of the stars involved in the environmental protection in fashion.

The said conventional cotton uses 25% of pesticides used worldwide. When you buy jeans with woven cotton non-organic, tell yourself that you contribute to the development of the most polluting industries! Do not forget that producing a kilogram of cotton requires very dry in some 30,000 liters of water. Just for a kilo of cotton! But the water today, we must preserve it. One billion people lack this precious liquid in the world today. At a time when I speak, almost half of the world population has no access to safe drinking water and sanitation services. And it is the leading cause of death on our planet. Think about it when you buy your jeans or T-shirt in cotton.

You produced in the early 2000s, “Trippin ‘” a series of programs on the environment. Of all the wild places where you have last stand, which ones you have provided as much joy, happiness, well-being?!

Baja California where we have seen probably one of the last groups of blue whales. A rare and touching sight. I will never forget either the melodious singing of hundreds of thousands of birds, while I was swimming in the clear waters of the river Makal Belize. There was also climbing the ruins of Tikal in Guatemala, in the heart of the last intact rainforest in Central America. The objective of this program was not to image the adventures of a beautiful blonde in remote locations or to males fantasize when I massaged the back of the train elephants, but to ensure that viewers understand that our Earth is on borrowed time if we do not change radically our disastrous habits of consumers-profiteers!

I guess fame has a lot of advantages but also some disadvantages. What do you regret the most since you became a star?

By becoming an actress, I knew that I would lose a big part of my freedom. Celebrity, it’s good, it’s beautiful, but also a bit like you amputated one of your members. It’s hard to get used to it! Fortunately, I’m an ultra positive and above all loves to laugh. The laughter to me is the best way to gain height, distance, not to let vampirize by vanity. And it’s also a great way to cleanse you from within. A good fit of laughter, it relieves congestion, it removes all the bad toxins you have in you!

Is it true that you access the happiness always comes from a French wine?

Among other things, that has not tasted your Burgundy can not know the definition of happiness! When I go to France and more precisely in your capital, in the hotel where I stay, I always friend-friends with the sommelier.

Only one man in history challenged the world in showing his best love. He loved everyone so much that he gave his own flesh and blood to others. He assured eternal life by sharing his body.

Christian world commemorates the incident of Jesus sharing his own body with humanity to show his maximum level of love. There are so many memorable and incredible references throughout the Holy Bible assuring this love through the metaphor of bread. Jesus assured humanity saying, “I am the bread of life.”

Jesus identifies himself as “bread of life”

Eucharist is the central point of Christian life according to the Roman Catholics. Jesus speaks about it clearly throughout his ministry. His words speak about so many hungers and human attempts to satisfy those hungers. Man is hungry to be fed. He is hungry to be loved. He is hungry to belong to someone in some way. He is hungry for recognition. He craves for so many things. He never rests until he is satisfied of his hunger.

Until man finds real nourishment, he gets by on a diet of “junk food” and empty calories of distractions and diversions. He can never be nourished with them. His health will further be spoiled with them leading him to sicknesses.

Food has been a basic food for survival in all civilizations of mankind throughout human history. It does not appear magically out of the ground in itself, but has to be made – a process discovered and known for thousands of years. It has been used as leavened or unleavened, made of many different grains. It is the nutritious food that provides energy. In western culture bread is used even as another word for money or something that is necessary for survival.

This metaphor of bread in the Bible may seem to be a combination of mystical nutritional, horticultural and religious images and may create something stirring. But they expose the deep love and concern of God towards humanity.

Jesus repeatedly offering himself as bread of life

Jesus knew quite well the nature of man’s hunger and how it can be satiated. That is why he came forward to offer himself as food. When the people around him were searching for him to find out a short cut to find food without toil, he told them about imperishable bread. He said, “’Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of man will give to you; for on him has God the Father set his seal.’ Then they said to him, ‘What must we do, to be doing the works of God?’ Jesus answered them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.’ So they said to him, ‘Then what sign do you do, that we may see, and believe you? What work do you perform? Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ Jesus then said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world.’ They said to him, ‘Lord, give us this bread always.’” (John 6: 27-34)

A bread to solve ever increasing hunger

Jesus came forward to solve the ever increasing problem of hungry humanity. He said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35) He repeats his words of assurance that he came into this world to offer himself as nourishment for eternal human life. “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread which comes down from heaven that a man may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.” (John 6: 47-51) Some people around him who heard these words of giving himself as food could not believe his words and began to murmur. Some left the place immediately.

Jesus wants to be present among men in his human form. There can be no other better solution that he could have chosen to live with people of all generations. Modern life is more after “junk foods”. Man has to find out real food that can nourish him.

Draconian as it may seem, there needs to be a law to curb excessive indulgence in junk food and related stuff in order to rein in the silent epidemic that obesity has become. Watch this space.

Obesity is now a silent epidemic

There is a silent epidemic sweeping throughout the world especially in affluent countries led by the United States of America. Lifestyle diseases continue to hold the health sector captive and the number succumbing to high blood pressure, diabetes, heart diseased and other obesity related diseases is greater than that of Aids and cancer! Should the government be allowed to tax excess weight? Should those who are overweight pay some form of sin tax for every excess kilogram they carry on their skeletons?

Overindulgence in junk food is a sin worse than drinking

Call me dictatorial or plain insensitive but as a measure to have citizens watch what they eat and exercise in order to keep fit and stay healthy, I believe governments should tax extra weight in order to augment the health sector budget. Overindulgence in junk food is a sin far worse than that of drinking or smoking and since sin taxes are levied on alcohol and cigarettes, the same should apply on junk food as well as excess weight itself.

Citizens should pay tax on every excess kilogram or risk imprisonment

I foresee president Obama’s democratic party sponsoring a bill to this effect and the rest of the world following it its foot steps, so that the body mass index of every citizen, male or female, adult or child, is taken every month at designated clinics in order to keep it in check. Citizens can then be forced to pay tax on every excess kilogram they weigh or face imprisonment!

Those who add weight for medical reasons should be exempted

Value added tax on junk food should then be increased to something like 200% in order to push them further out of reach for smaller pockets and finally out of homes and into the dumping sites. Those who add weight because of known hormonal or autoimmune diseases, and I know they are very few, would then be exempted from this law.

You can be a nutrition nut, and STILL have a favorite candy bar. We all have a weak spot for our favorite childhood candy…But what does it say about your personality?

Snickers: Dependable, but boring

Twix: Split personality disorder!

Three musketeers: does well in groups, but cocky

M$Ms: OCD disorder!, you probably like to organize your closet by color.

Jolly Rancher: The daring, adventurous type, hard to crack

Sour Patch kids: You need to grow up, and often make people cry

Nerds: You’re anti social, but secretly loads of fun!

MilkyWay: You aspire to travel in space

This was only meant to be fun, and obviously has NO scientific evidence . Feel free to add you favorite candy, and tell me what kind of personality you would describe yourself as having!

Although most people think of donating to the Food Bank only at Christmas time, Food Banks need donations all year long. It is not just food that people need, however when food is donated it should be somewhat healthy. Here is a list of healthy foods, and some other items, that Food Banks need.

So often food banks get the same junk foods donated, and while these may taste great, they do not really benefit the recipient – you will note both my wife and I have had to rely on the food bank at some point in our lives. Very often the food at some food banks is all junk food. This is rather odd, and sad, especially when there is so much healthy food to be had.

Food Items

Couscous

Granola

Oatmeal – Rolled Oats (not the flavored portion packages, which are not particularly healthy)

Healthy Breakfast Cereals

Eggless Mayonnaise

Organic Ketchup

Organic Sugar (including natural, or raw, brown sugar.

Whole Wheat Bread

Salt and Pepper

Spices

Brown Rice

Whole Wheat Spaghetti

Spaghetti Sauces

Frozen Juice Mix (make sure it says “Juice” – not “drink”)

Powered Milk

Soy Milk

Dried Fruit

Trail Mix

Canned Fruit (fresh fruit is great but must be donated close to the distribution date or will be no good)

Canned brown beans

Canned Soups

Peanut Butter (a common donation request – also a common donation)

Non – Food Items

Multi Vitamins

Band aids

Aspirin

Feminine Hygiene Products

Shaving Supplies

Batteries

Reusable Diapers

Toilet Paper

Pet Food (cat food, dog food, and food for other pets, such as birds, rabbits, and so forth)

Cat Litter

Tooth Paste (I like to select one that is natural, fluoride free, and not tested on animals)

If you are thinking of donating food you grew in your garden – call first, some Food Banks do not want food from “unknown” sources. They also do not want your old, stale food, opened foods, and so forth. Some food banks will take coupons or even bus passes that still have use on them. The food bank itself may need extra bags, or you can donate your time!

3.Always encourage them for there good deeds and not for there bad deeds .

4.spend at few hours with your children in a day.

5.Do not make them feel that there parents have plenty of money.

6.Fulfill there needs as per there requirement, not all,

7.Tell them the stories of good people who served country ,or similar to that

8. Make them understand what to eat and what not to eat., Many children get edict-ed with the junk foods which latter stage harm to there health.

9. Encourage them to yoga and exercises every day.

10. Make them understand about good and bad aspect of early sex.

11.Present your an Ideal picture in-front of them, like if you say do not drink OR do not smoke and you drinking and smoking then they will chose your bad path then your good one

12. And last but not least , make a habit to start there day with the prayer.

Such things are very simple thing but if we follow these seriously we will feel proud of our children.

Back in the Great Depression, poor people were hungry and skinny. Their faces reflected poverty as they lined up at soup kitchens or queued down the street for food stamps. But things have changed since then. Today, the opposite holds true. Poor people are more likely to be fat. But what does a fat waistline have to do with poverty? The answer may be shocking.

Throughout history, the wealthy were seen as plump and happy. Wealth was determined by how much high class foods people could afford to eat. Poor people did menial jobs for minimum wage and struggled to put food on the table. They were the C ratchets of the world, portioning out beans. Even today, in some of the poorest nations of the world, poverty is reflected in thinness of body.

Yet in the richer nations, the poor are often found behind the counter of the local fast food place or the all-night convenience store. Often those same poor are fat. The lower the income, the more overweight a person is likely to be.

This is an odd paradox. Yet it’s not as unusual as it appears. The reasons for obesity among the poor have nothing to do with laziness or a sedentary lifestyle. Poor people work menial jobs for minimum wage.

The reason lies in what the poor can afford to buy. In today’s society, a burger costs less than a head of broccoli. Researcher Dr. Adam Drewnowski did an experiment to see what a dollar would buy at the grocery store. He found that he could buy 1000 calories in cookies or 900 calories of soda as opposed to just 250 calories of carrots or 170 calories in orange juice for that same dollar. The greatest calories came from junk food. When income is limited, junk food becomes the only choice for the working poor. And that extra fat, sugar, sodium and other unwholesome chemicals is what makes for expanding waistline among the working poor.

The cost to process and refine foods is a complicated process and would be expensive if they were not subsidized. That translates to artificially low prices at the supermarket. The working poor have little choice but to choose fast food over spinach and broccoli.

The food industry is interested in making profits, so the cheaper they can produce a product, the more they can sell. Tax dollars go to subsidize commodity crops such as grains, oils and sugar, keeping them low. Between 1985 and 2000, the price of soft drinks fell by 25% while fruits and vegetables rose by 400% over the same period.

The bulk of subsidies go to food producers that don’t really need them. In effect, subsidies act as welfare to big food conglomerates. Compare that to the 70% of small farms that produce natural foods that get no subsidies at all.

The crisis of health care could be addressed by removing those subsidies from the big conglomerates and giving the independent farmer more incentive to produce healthier food. The price of natural and organic produce could become more affordable and help decrease the rate of obesity. Unfortunately, this is unlikely to happen. Instead, a number of states are looking to impose a “fat tax” on those who can’t afford to pay for better food and aren’t likely to benefit from such a tax. While the government debates how to handle the obesity epidemic, they continue to subsidize large food conglomerates that contribute to the epidemic.

If the government is unwilling to act, it’s up to the individual to support their local farmers and natural food producers. Spending less for junk food by the well-off and buying more organic can send a clear message that the system as it stands is corrupt.

A journey of discovery from the Far East to North America about fatness.

I’ll admit it: I’m not as thin as I used to be. “Soft” is probably the best way to describe my aging physique. Too much drinking and snacking and less opportunities for exercise are the reasons. I still look quite slim to strangers (probably), and am so far one of the thinnest of many of the people I spend time around, but beneath the slightly baggy shirt, I know.

Despite this, and somewhat hypocritically, I’m pretty judgmental of people I see as fat. Noticeably fat. Part of the problem is that I lived for many years in Japan, which on the world scale can easily be defined as a “small” when looking at body sizes. Coming back to North America was a bit of a shock, as we tend to occupy the “large” category (“extra-large” when you visit your nearest WalMart).

Every day that I go out, whether it be shopping, commuting, or taking out the trash, I see fat people. Arms bigger than thighs. Massive backs with enough skin to make Buffalo Bill weep with joy. Layers of rolls.

Kids are the worst. Adults make decisions whereas children know nothing. Seeing 10 year old boys with larger breasts than their 16 year old sisters, and pre-teen girls with a substantial roll of fat around their waist just feels wrong. Especially when these kids tend to be the ones clutching their ten dollar bags of flavored popcorn and massively large fast food drink cups. I remember in Elementary school when there were 3 fat kids per grade. Now it’s the non-chubbies that are the rarities.

So I judge these people (and their parents). A lot. I accept my own softness and know it is because of the extra and unnecessary foods I consume and the lack of exercise, but it’s not extreme fatness; that is the line I draw. And, there’s no blame put on my genes or anyone. I whine about a lack of time to exercise but that’s just laziness – how much time do you need to do a few sets of stomach crunches a day?

This relationship I’ve had with fat people for years has been going along swimmingly until last week. I started jogging to work on my softness a bit, and used a local field for my laps. One day a fat woman with her kids came to the field. The kids started to play and the fat woman dropped her sweater and did a lap around the field. I was shocked. It was only a lap, but still. “Good on her,” I thought. She had obviously realized she had a problem and was trying to do something about it. She was still fat, but in my eyes she had taken a massive step forward in how she appeared to me.

Here’s the problem: how do I know that the man with the pouch under his face that I see in the mall hasn’t just started busting his ass at the gym every night? Maybe the woman on the subway whose breasts rest on her stomach has been working her way from five stomach crunches a day to twenty over the past 8 weeks.

Is it right to judge knowing that I don’t know the full story? Fatness isn’t a disease, and anyone born with a slower metabolism needs to make decisions to deal with it in the same way that someone with a drinking problem needs to make a conscious choice to stop. That’s easy enough to justify to my judgmental side – but how do I know who has taken action to repair the mistakes of their past?

I don’t. But like the fact that skinny kids are becoming the minority, fat people taking their bodies back from their poor past decisions are also still somewhat rare. My journey from Japan to North America to that field has not been completely in vain, though. The next extra-large man I see walking down the street will get my disgust, but followed quickly by that will be my hope that when I’m not looking he’s doing what he can to repair the damage done to his body. As long as he’s not clutching a giant slurpee.
