After spending a lovely Valentine’s Day with my husband I started to wonder what are the origins of the French kiss. I began my research as always using an internet search engine and I came up with very little in the way of useful information. I mostly found information on how to perform this act not on where it came from. So I dug a little deeper and discovered that it was not the French people who first performed this very intimate and sensual act nor did they name it.

This type of kiss was named after the French because of their open sensuality and their acceptance of overtly public displays of affection way back in the early nineteen twenties. For most of the rest of the modern world this type of behaviour was frowned upon in public and was meant only for the bedroom of a married couple.

It was the arrival home of the soldiers from World War I that brought this kiss to North America. After spending their rotations with European women many of the soldiers came home with a new way of kissing that involved not just the lips but the tongue as well. This kiss was deeply passionate and extremely intimate. Almost as if they were making love with this part of their bodies, how romantic!

So no one really knows who coined the term French kiss not that it really matters. This act of passion is overtly sensual and pleases most human beings. It is a delicate balance of touching that can be subtle or more actively stimulating depending on the desire of each person involved. Now isn’t love grand?

That kiss never was just a kiss, historically, and those doing it, when they actually make lip contact, are actually taking part in what truly is one of the most bizarre and unlikely of human activities imaginable, because, according to experts, it has nothing to do with sex..

Kissing, it appears, actually evolved from the ancient practice of human animals sniffing at one another, because that was how people learned things about one another in times past. It is thought that, maybe at some point, humans sniffing each other out slipped and ended up touching lips.

Vaughn Bryant, Texas A&M University anthropologist and an authority on how human kissing evolved, pointed out that during early human history, relationships depended on smell, used to determine mood, health and social status of the person being greeted.

Sniff greetings were commonplace, those involved brushing noses across faces, sniffing at the scent glands, which over time became a brushing of the lips, the way in which this form of social greeting came about.

The Indian sub-continent is where kissing became seen as a romantic form of expression, around 1000BC, when epic poem the Mahabharata included the  first descriptions of romantic kissing on record. It is thought that romantic kissing was unknown elsewhere in the world at that time,

For the Greeks, kissing was how men communicated status, rank, and loyalty among themselves, an expression of social hierarchy, in a way. Lip contact is mentioned, as a form of supplication, not romance, in Homer’s Odyssey.  Where social equals would kiss the mouth, servants, and slaves kissed cheeks, hands, feet, or even the hem of the robe, a practice that continued into the 18th century.

What Romans called the soul kiss is today referred to as the French kiss, though Emperor Tiberius did attempt to ban kissing in case it was a way of spreading leprosy, but his Roman people ignored him. Oddly enough, early Christians were anti-kissing and several popes tried over the years to ban romantic kissing, Pope Clement V decreeing that kissing done with the intent to fornicate was to be considered a mortal sin In 1312.

It was European missionaries who introduced kissing, in the 19th century, to Africa, Asia and Oceania, as well as the word of God to many indigenous populations. The Japanese thought kissing to be offensive and film scenes in which it featured were carefully deleted from movies shown after WWII in occupied Japan.

It is clear from historical data that, in terms of human evolution, the kiss is a relatively new phenomenon, never originally intended to be a conveyor of emotion. Whatever the reasons for it actually coming into being, the kiss never really was just a kiss, but the meanings to it have been so many and varied that it has blurred somewhat over time, but is still nonetheless a great experience when there is passion behind it.

Trivia 1: Did you know that in 16th century, kissing has been banned before in Naples Italy? It was punishable by death by that time,. King Henry VI banned kissing to prevent the spread of plagues including “herpes”.

Kissing has been on the history even in ancient times, but it is primarily used as a greeting rather than the impression that it has now.  People often associate kissing now as a form of expression of love.  Public kissing even today is quite banned in different areas in the world, because of the point that it is malicious especially when seen by a child..

Many ways must be done by lovers in all over the world to celebrating Valentine’s Day, one of them with a kiss that signifies a sense of affection. However, it appeared that some infectious diseases ready to spy on you while kissing. An infectious disease specialist at Loyola University in Chicago, United States, Jorge Parada, warned to be careful when kissing on Valentine’s Day
He explained that this Valentine’s Day usually falls on the peak season of disease transmission. Changes in weather or cold temperatures are often blamed when they cough and cold hit. But in reality, runny nose, cough and flu is a contagious disease that is “captured” through transmission from one human to another.
“Mid-February is usually the peak season of transmission of diseases, such as seasonal and H1N1 flu, mononucleosis, colds and coughs,” said Medical Director of Communicable Diseases at Loyola University Health System, Jorge Parada, told to Newswise.
According to him, when you kiss an existing infection or disease to your partner will move through the lips or saliva.
When Valentine’s Day, lovers also often eat together in a romantic atmosphere with a drink from the same glass or share a dessert with the same fork. This way is also can cause infection.
“Stress can weaken the body’s defense against infection. Thus making us more susceptible to disease,” said Jorge Parada.
In addition, continued Parada, the trend was in the arena crowds in winters like in shopping malls or movie theaters can also be spread colds and flu. To be safer, better you show affection in different ways, such as giving special attention.

Asking lots of questions is good, however, you may tend to forget some here and

beings you may not be the only ones out side. 

If you decide to make love in a restaurant make sure no one is looking at you possibly and go

to either sex bathroom and make love in one of the bathroom stalls.  Being quiet when you do.

Then celebrate that moment by presenting that person with a/’s heart warming gift/’s.

You will probably want to eat after that.

Then whip out the list your honey made and ask them.  And, give them a choices on what they

want to do.  If you are a (husband) as your wife tells you grab the flowers and hand them

to her.  Prearrange a romantic forplay appetizer to come to the table with flowers on the

tray.  And, both of your favorite song in the background.
