Sluggish European, Latin American Craftsman Shutter,Association of Exporters and Producers of Indonesian Handicraft (ASEPHI) targeting the Latin American markets in marketing their handicraft products. The effort was as sluggish economies in Europe and the United States.

Sluggish European, Latin American Craftsman Shutter, “Since the crisis struck, Europe and the U.S. is still sluggish. So after the tsunami struck Japan’s Sakura. Thus, we offer in order to expand the government began to open its market to Latin America,” said Chairman ASEPHI Bali, Ketut Dharma Siadja, Tuesday, May 15 of 2012.

The reason for choosing Latin America, according to him, because these countries have not been affected by the crisis that hit Europe and the U.S. since in recent years. “Call it Brazil, Venezuela and other Latin American countries, their economic conditions remain stable. They are not affected by the crisis,” he said.

Instead, Dharma added, economic conditions of Latin American countries shows that the situation improves. “Their economies remain stable, it actually is getting better,” he explained.

Moreover, he explains, Latin America is also very open to seed Bali handicraft products such as handicrafts of wood and silver. Nevertheless, he requested that the craft market that has existed in Europe and America remain intertwined.

Latin America and the Caribbean (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

“I’ve proposed it directly to the Deputy Minister of Tourism and the Creative Economy, Nirwandar. He could not agree with the idea that we convey,” says Dharma.

According to Dharma, although the craft of wood and silver which has been the leading Bali was slow, with the opening of the Latin American market as well as retaining the European and American markets, he believes Bali craft will survive.

“Why is that, because they can not find a superior Balinese handicrafts in their area. They just know, if it is Bali handicraft products. Bali’s intelligence community,”

The article is about President Obama who cites potential of billion consumers in the Americas.

CARTAGENA, Colombia (Reuters) – U.S. President Barack Obama stressed on Saturday the “great promise” for business growth in the Americas, seeking to play up the economic heft of the region he has paid little attention to in his first three years in office.

In remarks prepared for a meeting of corporate chief executives in Cartagena, Colombia, where he is attending the 33-nation Summit of the Americas, Obama described U.S.-Latin American ties as “one of the world’s most dynamic trade relationships.”

“With nearly a billion citizens – nearly a billion consumers – among us, there’s so much more we can do together,” according to excerpts of his speech released by the White House.

“For the Americas, this is a moment of great promise. And I believe if we seize the opportunities before us, we’ll continue to be each other’s economic partners of choice,” he was set to tell the gathering of CEOs on Saturday morning, which precedes the formal start of the regional leaders’ summit.

Among the companies represented at the CEO gathering were Pfizer Inc, Chevron, Pepsico and Cisco Systems Inc.

Obama, a Democrat running for re-election in November, is under pressure in Colombia to show he is committed to engaging with Latin America and is addressing regional issues including drug trafficking and violence.

His critics – including many pivotal Hispanic voters in the United States – have accused him of largely neglecting Washington’s neighbors to concentrate on crises in the Middle East and Afghanistan and on an effort to boost U.S. trade ties with fast-growing Asia.

On his way to Colombia on Friday, Obama gave a speech at a shipping port in Tampa, Florida, on the ways U.S. businesses and workers can benefit from increased trade with Latin American countries like Mexico, Brazil and Argentina.

Florida, with its large Hispanic population, is expected to be an electoral battleground on November 6 and Latino voters could also make or break Obama’s re-election chances in swing states including Nevada, Colorado and Virginia.

Polls show the president well ahead of Mitt Romney – the presumed Republican nominee for the White House race – among Latino voters despite concerns about his lack of attention to Latin American issues and disappointment about his failure to produce the broad immigration reform he promised in 2008.

Brief summary on Cuba.

Official name: Republic of Cuba

Official language: Spanish

Land area: 42,427 sq mi/109,886 sq km

Population: 11,265,000

Dominant religion: Christianity

Capital: Havana

Current leader: President Raul Castro

Cuba is an island country located in the Caribbean Sea, at the mouth of the Gulf of Mexico. It is about 90 miles (145 kilometers) south of Key West, Florida. It consists of one large main island and some 1,700 smaller offshore islands, most of them uninhabited. Cuba’s main island is the largest island in the Caribbean Sea. For more than 50 years it has had the distinction of being the only communist-ruled country in the Western Hemisphere.

Almost all Cubans are of either mixed Spanish and Native American ancestry or African and Spanish ancestry. Some are a mixture of all three. About 99 percent of the population lives on the main island. Most Cubans are Roman Catholics although the government tries to keep a lid on religion, fearing that it could undermine the government’s authority.

Cuba is the world’s leading sugar cane exporter. Other major crops are bananas, oranges, mangoes and tobacco. Cuba is known worldwide for its high-quality cigars.

Despite being a very poor country, due in part of the strict U.S. embargo, in many ways, Cubans enjoy relatively comfortable standard of living. It has one of the world’s high literacy rates. Education is free and schools are plentiful. Health care is also free and its health care system is considered to be one of the best in the world.

Except for a brief spell from 1762 to 1763, when it was seized by the British, Cuba was a Spanish colony from the early-1500’s to 1898, when it was acquired by the United States from Spain following the Spanish-American War. The U.S. granted the country independence in 1902.

During the 1930’s and 1940’s Cuba flourished as Latin America’s main center of culture and arts and was a top destination for the wealthy. However, this also helped create a frighteningly large gap between the rich and poor, the later becoming increasingly resentful. Rebels, led by Fidel Castro, who was aided by Che Guevara, drove then-dictator Fulgencio Batista y Zaldivar from power. Castro assumed leadership and began slowly dismantling individual freedoms and taking complete control of the economy. Relations with U.S. deteriorated and Castro sought closer ties with the Soviet Union.

In 1962, Cuban became ground zero for the most fearful moment during the Cold War when he allowed the Soviets to station nuclear-tipped guided missiles in the country. U.S. President John F. Kennedy ordered an immediate naval blockade of the country to stop the movement of Soviet missile. For thirteen harrowing days the world stood on the brink of the long-feared war between the world’s two most powerful countries. After feverish talks, the Soviet Union backed down from its decision to place the missiles in Cuba.

Prisons are referred as ‘Correctional Centers’ in many nations but instead of reforming a prisoner and integrating him or her back to the mainstream of life it has become a place of suffering and breeding grounds for criminals in various nations across the world.

Prisons are also referred as ‘Correctional Centers’ in some countries like the U.S., as the general idea is that a prison term is not only a punishment for the crimes committed by an individual and will act as a deterrent for impending criminals but a prison term will also help in reforming a person from his or her evil status that led to the jail term in the first place, through acts of penance in form of punishment endured because of imposed restrictions on freedom and free movement and other acts of constructive service performed in the jail.

If the idea was implemented properly then it would have made better persons out of hardened criminals, but sadly, the conditions prevailing in many so-called ‘Correctional Centers’ around the world are really pathetic and they are actually breeding grounds for creating new criminals rather than reforming the bad ones.

There are countless prisons in Latin America, South-east Asia, Africa and other parts of the world that to describe in one word is a ‘Living Hell’! Inmates are made to live there in unthinkable and inhuman conditions, at times worse than even animals in small dingy cells, taking away the most basic human right of an individual person that is provided to the worst of criminals even by the “United Nations Declaration of Human Rights”. In such places not only people caught for petty crimes or under trials are herded into cells with hardened criminals, but also there is nobody to protect them from being beaten up, sexually assaulted or even killed by the more-seasoned offenders.

Countless people around the world rot in such jails without even a single trial for years, as there were none to fight their cases, until their cases come to the notice of any good NGO, fighting for the cause of such abandoned people. Many of them are even innocent and appear to have been framed by a corrupt system. Officials of such jails are mostly corrupt and at many times they work in cahoots with mafias and crime syndicates, besides being exploiters of the inmates.

In such prisons those who are physically tough, manipulative and are easily able to get into the good book of the officials by helping them carry on their depraved actions within the jail premises get lots of advantages and privileges from the authorities for their allegiance, including quality food, drugs, alcohol, gadgets, etc…for others it’s a life of terrible suffering with little food or no food.

I don’t think any average normal person would come out of such a jail reformed ever? If someone survives the full-term then it would take him or her much longer in recovering from the traumatic experiences of such a prison. Many others begin their journey of crime from these very places, as conforming appears the easy way out. History is testimony to the fact of how juvenile delinquents or first time offenders have been converted to hardened criminals by rubbing shoulders with their likes.

Amid all the darkness there is also a ray of light and all is not lost. There are honest and dedicated officers trying their best to bring about positive changes and programs within the jail premises that would help the convicts find better ways of integrating into the mainstream once they finish their jail term. Innumerable prisoners have acquired vocational training courses from such unique prison campuses and even got master degrees on various subjects. I have even read about jails where some companies were ready to hold campus interviews after initial hesitancy, for their prospective new recruits and ultimately found some fresh new talents and the concerned persons got good paying high-skilled jobs after their release.

These positive stories inspire us and will continue to do so, but it cannot take away the focus from the vast darkness that prevails in the countless jails across the world. So naturally the obvious question that arises out of all this is that, does prisons or ‘Correctional Centers’ actually create criminals rather than reforming them? Is it a place where innocents and minor offenders are persecuted while the big bad boys get away? Well the ones I mentioned above certainly creates such an atmosphere. It is time for the ‘United Nations Human Rights Council’ to pull-up the nations that allow such horror penitentiaries to function? It is a shame for humanity!

Brief summary on Latin America.

Latin America is a large region in the Western Hemisphere, extending from the southern border of the United States to include all of Central America and South America. It also includes all island countries in the Caribbean Sea. There are more than 30 countries in Latin America, with Brazil being the largest. The region is very rich in culture and heritage. Before the Europeans arrived, Native Americans such as the Aztec, Inca and Maya had very advanced civilizations. European colonial powers controlled the region for more than 300 years and brought African slaves to work in the plantations. More than half of the region had been ruled by Spain but the France, Portugal and the United Kingdom also had colonies there. As a result, most Latin Americans are of either mixed Native American and European or Native American and African or African and European ancestries. Independence movements began in the early 1800’s and by the turn of the century many Latin American colonies had become independent republics. Dutch is the official language in Suriname, French is the official language in Haiti and Portuguese is the official language in Brazil. English and Spanish is the official language in all other Latin American countries.

Poverty is wide-spread in the region and in many of the countries the gap between the Haves and the Have Nots is staggeringly wide. Bolivia and Haiti are among the world’s poorest countries while Brazil and Mexico are among the wealthiest.

Nearly every country in Latin America has, at some point since gaining independence, experienced military rule and even today in many of the countries, the military continues to wield a lot of influence in government decisions and the backing of the military is considered vital for presidents and/or prime ministers.

The allied nations agreed to help one another in case of political interference, military attack, or even for economic reasons. An alliance on one side often led to a counteralliance on the other.

Each side tried to become stronger than the other. In the 1800s, Great Britain kept a balance of power in Europe by allying itself first with one side, then with the other.

Since World War II, a new power balance had been formed, based on three groups – the United States and western European nations, the Soviet Union and eastern European nations, and the People’s Republic of China.

The three powers competed for the friendship of the underdeveloped countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America (so-called “third world” countries). Many underdeveloped nations have vast resources of raw materials and manpower.

Get information on the beautiful Guatemalan city of Antigua. Also find out what makes this city such a popular tourist destination for tourists from all around the world.

The fantastic city known as Antigua, Guatemala is considered to be the biggest tourist destination in Guatemala.

The historical city of Antigua is found in the exquisite central regions of Guatemala and is iconic for their breathtaking colonial structures lining it’s streets and the many different volcanoes observable on the outskirts.

This unique city once was the capital city until it was intensely damaged by many different earthquakes in 1773. At this moment, their adult population has 33000 people with a large amount of of people coming here each and every year, many who attend the many different Spanish courses for which this place is legendary for. Keep reading to find out more about Guatemala.

Things to see in Antigua, Guatemala

Antigua, Guatemala is incredibly tourist friendly. The city of Antigua consists of a lot of hotels, dining places, discos and retailers, virtually all serving the international holidaymaker.

Travel agencies in many cases can also be seen just about everywhere. The fascinating trade market found close to the bus terminal has phenomenal shopping experiences, together with the chance to practice your haggling skills. Anywhere you look, you can uncover new examples of the breathtaking old colonial architecture. Several of the finest are the remains of the ancient San Agustin Church, the breathtaking Castle, plus the Cathedral remains. The Central Park is truly a popular spot, a magnificent spot to spend a few hours. The fabulous views of the city from the top of local volcanoes are actually worth the intense walk to the top. Yet another gorgeous view is from the mountain of Cerro de la Cruz. But bear in mind, violent crime has become reported down the trail. Luckily, local police escort vacationers daily.

The best time to go to Antigua

This city has got an incredibly moderate weather conditions all through the year as a consequence of their highlands location, they have the benefit of pleasant days, cool evenings, and as well as substantially less rainfall compared to the rest of this Central American nation. Prior to Easter Sunday is the most famous special event in Guatemala. You’ll notice amazingly colored sawdust floor coverings with fantastic designs, which happen to be laid on the roadways. Travelers considering coming to this city throughout this festival must book places to stay well ahead of time.

How to travel around the city

Transport in Antigua Guatemala is in abundance. a large amount of public buses come to the big bus station in the central region of the town, which has got an enormous local market where tourists can buy local merchandise. If you’d rather not choose public transportation you will be able to arrange for a private taxi cab to come and get you from your hotel room. Although walking is the most popular form of transportation in the city. Cabs can be used for much longer distances and even for during rain storms.

Safety measures in Antigua

The city can become dangerous at nighttime. Holidaymakers really need to use the exact same caution as one would in every other city in Central America, for instance such as not keeping massive amounts of money, not carrying nice jewelry. Female travelers would want to use extreme care, especially when wandering after dark. Do not go walking around at nighttime and make full use of cabs whenever possible.

There are many other great destinations in Central America but none offers the same amount of beauty, volcanoes and affordability as this amazing Guatemalan city, Antigua. Sure, a lot of places in Central America are not safe. It is always a good idea to find out more information about Guatemala before traveling there.

This is only a small part about the historical background of U.S-Iran incidents.

This is the first of many articles about the US-Iran conflict that I will write. The subject is rather confusing as it has many layers. It does not only involve Iran and the United States, it does not only take place in modern times. The showdowns, threats, sanctions and political sabotage are nothing new. They did not start a decade ago.

As the United States armed forces are returning from missions in Iraq, there is a new air of war in the region. There is a new “enemy” that the American people is being told (by politicians) to fear. The new boogie-man is Iran. It seems that the last century had its own boogie-man, it was called “Communism,” the fight on communism led the United States government to install regimes in Latin America and remote regions of the world. The world was always in danger of being blown up by nuclear war, however, thanks to smart and visionary men like John F. Kennedy, the world still goes on.

As the last century came to a close and the Soviet Union fell, or to put it in better terms was dissolved and shrunk, the influence of America around the world began to dwindle. This is not to say that the influence of America in other countries has stopped altogether, but countries around the world have become more successful when it comes to fighting American interference. New forms of government and charismatic leaders arose to shake up whole regions away from American influence. The farther these regions try to flee from American control, the stronger the hold on the regions gets. It is the same song and dance that happens when the waters of the ocean are caught between the gravitational pull of the earth and the moon.

One of the greatest tragedies at the close of the last centuries was without a doubt the terrorist attacks of September 11. It was not only one of the greatest tragedies due to its death toll, but also because of the consequences that were felt world wide. This gave birth to the Bush Doctrine and gave a continuation to the American tradition of war by declaring war on Iraq and Afghanistan. The war on Iraq was deemed a preemptive strike, according to George W. Bush, it is acceptable for the United States to launch an attack against a nation that possess a threat to its national security. The war on Afghanistan was waged on different grounds, but the result was the same. According to the official version, the culprits of the attacks against the twin towers were none other than Al-Qaeda and its “leader Osama bin Laden.”

One part of the mission was to enter Afghanistan, stabilize the region, get rid of Al-Qaeda and capture or kill Osama bin Laden. Another part of the mission was to enter Iraq, find and destroyed its weapons of mass destruction and find Saddam Hussein. Hussein was captured and executed soon after the military campaign started. Osama bin Laden was free for at least a decade and then was killed in neighboring Pakistan.

Once again, it seems that those that wage war have forgotten that neither Afghanistan nor Iraq were new to war and invasions by foreign powers. The Russians tried and failed to take over Afghanistan. The British tried the same. America did not stay behind, but the war is still going on. The same goes for Iraq, although, at least officially, the war in Iraq is over.

This is where the Bush Doctrine has been used. Bush said that the goal was to punish those responsible for 911, the goal was to hunt them down anywhere in the world. Anyone who aided in the planning, financing or executing the attacks of 911 was gonna pay. Nations, entities, and individuals who harbored terrorist were going to pay. Bush drew a clear line for the rest of the world, when it came to the “War on Terrorism,” the whole world had to cooperate or be at risk of being attacked or invaded.

While the provocations between Iran and the United States seemed to be frequent, they were not grave. It was always the same thing, the United States was complaining that Iran is developing a nuclear weapon, Iran was denying the allegations, there was even talk of sanctions and more sanctions by the U.N. This changed in early October of 2011, when the news broke out about a supposed assassination attempt of a Saudi ambassador. The culprit, according to official reports, was a group of Mexican drug dealers and the mastermind was Iran. Then, this is when fiction takes control of reality and all clarity, there were allegations floating around that Iran was also responsible for September 11, not only that, but that Iran is a threat to America. This time, however, the allegations of being a threat are not falling on Iran alone, but also on Latin American countries that have closer ties with Iran.

This is only Part 1 of the US-Iran conflict.
