A brief description of left and right brain characteristics.

The brain is by far the most fascinating organ in my opinion. Since it has intrigued me for so long, I have always absorbed knowledge of this amazing organ. It is the powerhouse of the body, controlling both voluntary and involuntary actions. As many of us are aware, the brain is divided into two halves, logically referred to as the right brain and the left brain. Interestingly, the left brain controls the right side of the body and the right brain controls the left side. That means that if you are right-handed, then you are primarily left-brained; but if you are left-handed, then you are right-brained. Each half of the brain has its own unique characteristics or actions that it is responsible for.

The left brain is more logical and analytical. It controls our verbal abilities to describe and define things. The left brain also allows us to organize and analyze information in a step-by-step manner, or sequentially. In short, the left brain is logical and rational. It helps our bodies keeps track of time, analyze and understand our world, interpret symbols and facts, and makes sense of numbers and problems.

The right brain, by contrast, is not rational; it is more intuitive. Our creative processes can be attributed to the right brain functions. The right brain processes data without a sense of time, words, or structure. It focuses on things that are felt and seen. It does not rationally reason about things, but rather observations are seen spatially as a part of a whole or insightfully. Basically, the right brain does not require facts and logic to function, it focuses primarily on feelings and our primal awareness.

Based on these descriptions of the right and left brain processes, do you see any of these things reflected in your personality? We can be right-brained or left brained; some people use equal amounts of each side, especially if they are ambidextrous. Personally, I can see how my left brain has a stronger presence in my day to day functions, although I can also observe many right brain characteristics as well. What about you?

The latest educational theory says the brain will work optimally when both hemispheres were applied together, right brain, which has the specification of thought and process data about feelings, emotions, art and music.

One of the things that affect the mind is the brain. If brain function optimally, the sense would be functioning optimally. According to neurologists human brain is divided into two, left brain and right brain have different functions. Broadly speaking, the right brain and left brain has the following capabilities:

The right brain: Listening to music, take advantage of attractive colors blend, creating various new symbol, group learning, puzzles, humor, jokes and creativity.

The left brain: Reading, counting, making summaries, homework, analyzing, making reasoning and memorization.

The right hemisphere of the brain associated with the left side of the body, and the left hemisphere with the right side. We will assume happiness recorded stronger on the right side of the face. While a sense of disgust, anger, and fear on the left side. Although the left hemisphere does not dominate the experience of positive emotions, the right hemisphere seems to be involved in recognition and signal processing of both positive and negative emotions. The right brain is also taking positive facial expressions more than we think based on left brain dominance in feeling positive emotions. Even so, the left brain actually plays a role in processing positive signals as well as experience

The latest educational theory says the brain will work optimally when both hemispheres were applied together, right brain, which has the specification of thought and process data about feelings, emotions, art and music. While the left brain function to process the brain surrounding the science, business and education. Use the left brain, is a way of thinking is logical specification, sequential, linear and rational. His character is very organized, very appropriate for regularities in verbal expression, writing, reading, placement of data and facts.

While I think kids who only uses his right brain hemisphere is its random, irregular, intuitive and holistic, it represents the non-verbal way of thinking, such as feelings and emotions, spatial awareness, use of shapes and patterns, music, art, color sensitivity, creativity and visualization. If children learn by just using the left brain, while the right brain is activated, it is easy to arise feeling bored, tired and sleepy. So also those who only use the right brain with no offset by the utilization of the left brain, he might be a lot of singing, talking or drawing but only a little knowledge can go into his brain.

Have you seen the ad of the spinning ballerina? Then it asks "Are you left or right brained?" What exactly is that!!

Whenever I click the ad, I get directed to a large cartoon quiz for testing my IQ. Which is so not relevant to the spinning ballerina. That quiz is just for sucking in curious people to give up their emails and expose them the more spam. Because IQ is not what the spinning ballerina test is about.

If you see the ballerina spinning to the left or counter clockwise, you prefer to use the left side of your brain. If you see the ballerina spinning to the right or clockwise, you prefer to use the right side of the brain. Some people see the ballerina switching from counter clockwise and clockwise, which means they do not have a preference between left and right. You can read this article to better explain what the differnce between right and left brain means to the person’s personality.

What is really amazing about this test is that not everybody sees the same thing! Ask a friend to look at the ballerina with you (the version that is actually spinning, I just posted a picture), and be amazed that the both of you are looking at the same object but see different things! It’s a fun experiment.

You can also learn to change the movement of the ballerina at will. If you practice a bit. Try looking at the shadow of her foot. If you stare long enough, she will change direction.

There are a lot of characteristics that distinguish people with a strong right brain preference and a strong left brain preference.

Remember, this is only a preference of brain use and most people are in between. Go to this article to find out if you have right brain or left brain leaning. For instance, right brain people enjoy creative story telling. A lot of poets would have a right brain preference. They also like reading fantasy, space out a lot, like making relationships between ideas, and solve problems using intuition.

A lot of artists, crafters and writers have right brain preference. Also, environmentalist tend to enjoy the right brain. Along with politicians, athletes, and actors. The right brain preference seems to suit those professions the best. Some peculiarities of strong right brainers are very weird and eerily accurate.

They think better laying down, they like being spontaneous. Or they wish and consciously try to be more spontaneous. They like cats more than dog. However, I’m a right brainer and I like both cats and dogs. So it is not a hard and fast rule to like cats. But people who do not like cats are flat out left brainers.

The Left Brain preference like classical music and can criticize music because they are aware of its structure. They are good at maths and like logic. They tackle problems in a systematic, step by step fashion. They love dogs and can’t be hypnotize! That really made me laugh. They are like non-fiction books, biographies, and action stories. And they are always aware of their surroundings, almost never spacing out. They have a talent for not letting their feelings get in the way of the job.

Left brain people are suitable for a lot of high paying professions, because of their efficiency. They tend to become lawyers, bankers, scientists, and librarians. Any job that needs a lot of technical persistence is great for a person with left brain preference.

But most of us are in between, and use both the right and left part of our brains. A strong preference happens towards the left or right brain because of our personalities and temperaments. If you are weak using either side of your brain, you can improve with practice and education. Even if you do not like math a strong left brain preference, for example, you can still learn it even if you favor your right brain. It is a matter of self improvement to strengthen both the left and right brains.

Net has become the modern age God.

Image via Wikipedia

Undeniable fact is that the world will come to a standstill without the internet.

Browsing is next to breathing.

Net addiction has become very common and more than 20% of world population suffers from it, according to a survey conducted recently.

Though computer has become vital in the field of education, children seem to have replaced their creative side of the brain, which is the right brain, with computer chips. The left brain is put to some use at least – memorizing for examinations, but the right side is granted rest.

Look at the ways their creativity is killed!

Science Projects:

Whole projects are just downloaded from the net. These never involve any original thinking. Not only ideas, but working models are made available for a price. The student who wants to try on his own never gets noticed in a crowd who seem precocious with borrowed creativity.

Literature and History:

Superficial gleanings offered by the net are gathered in a hurry and presented for the projects under this heading. Even reading of on line books is not done as the precious gaming and surfing time gets wasted in reading.

Creative Writing and Art:

This area in the student’s activity has become almost nonexistent. Essays are copies of on line essays. Poems are also judicious blend of poems we find on line. Art has lost its value.

These are not expressions of someone who is ignorant of the accomplishments of the human brain (of which the Internet, the most valuable one). All inventions have made life easy and pleasurable. Yet, God’s unique gift to man, the creative brain should not die.

Schools must do something to give a rebirth to creativity.

We will carry out an examination of the dual mind, left brain/right brain, and how they relate to logic or reason and intuition or emotion.

Viewing our own minds may be subject to a lack of objectivity. Looking in a mirror is inevitably a subjective experience. And seeking to understand our minds is a great deal like looking in that mirror. We’re forced to examine the human mind with human minds. It would seem that this might limit the extent of progress made in such a study, however who can better know what it is like to use a human mind than one who always does so? Ultimately, we are the best at carrying out self-examination, thus analyzing the dual nature of our own minds.

Logic or Reason and Intuition or Emotion

As the adjective “dual” suggest there are two broad components of the human mind, just as there are two major hemispheres of the human brain. Many have measured an association between these dualities. We’ve come to realize that our mental faculties are made up of {logic or reason}, and {intuition or emotion}. And that our brains are divided into left and right hemispheres. Studies of brain region activities, while specific mental tests were carried out have revealed that when a person is engaged in rational logical thought, the left hemisphere of their brain becomes more active or dominates.

While on the other hand, when strong emotions are being experienced the right brain does a great deal more sparking. Many study sources on this subject can be found, and the results appear to be fairly consistent. There does indeed seem to be a correlation between mental/emotional states and the hemispheric dominance of brain wave activities. So, it would seem our brains’ twofold structure ties directly to this dual nature found within our minds.

These are the parts of the Dual Mind

Logic: Left Brain – Rational thought

Intuition: Right Brain – Matters of the “Heart”

It All Depends on Hemispheric Dominance

Each of these components appear integrated into the minds of most human beings with a variety of possible combinations, leading to a plethora of human personalities, at least partially depending on the degree of hemispheric dominance. These combinations fall into three different general types of mixtures, based on which of the brain hemispheres dominate.

Most people fall into being either left brain dominate, or right brain dominate, while a minority are dual brained or dual minded, whose thought processes are not dominated by either hemisphere, but are evenly balanced between both hemispheres equally. Bear in mind we commonly use both hemispheres, so the designation of dominance only measures where one’s brain activity occurs most prominently, not exclusively.

This is very important to understand, being left brain dominant, for instance, does not mean one uses only their left brain, just that left brain usage is greater than right brain usage.

The Three Brain Dominance Types

The three brain dominance types can be labeled simply as L-dominant, R-dominant, and D-dominant.

L-dominant represents Left-brain dominant individuals.

R-dominant represents Right-brain dominant individuals.

D-dominant represents Dual-brain dominant individuals.

It might be helpful to have working definitions, giving a little more detail about each of these personality combinations.

L-dominant is the personality type of someone who spends the majority of their mental energy on logic oriented rational thought. The bulk of their brain activity occurs in the left side of their brains, and logic is their primary filter. Those at the extreme end of this type can sometimes seem cold or even emotionless.

R-dominant personalities conversely exhibit more brain activities in the right hemisphere, and are much more emotional people. They tend to look at life through the filter of their passions. Those on the far end of this personality type might sometimes seem overly emotional or even irrational, especially to the L-dominant.

D-dominant people are individuals whose personality is made up of a balanced blend of both mental components. Their minds are neither dominated by logic, nor emotions. Tests indicate such individuals use their brain hemispheres about equally, and they view life through both logical and intuitive filters with relative ease. These D-dominants are hemispherically balanced.

Through Which Filter Do You Approach Life?

Those who tend toward left brain dominance take a more scientific clinical approach to life, while the more right brained individuals tend to see life through the filter of their “heart”. What happens when your brain dominance is right down the middle? When taking tests designed to measure a person’s brain dominance, I’ve always tested right there in that middle place, 50/50.

Neither my left, nor my right hemisphere dominates; rather I use both equally. I fall into that group, scientist call the dual brained. It doesn’t mean I use more of my brain than anyone else, it’s just that when my synapses spark, they’re more spread out than most, with neither hemisphere dominating. It makes me both a scientist, and a poet, both an analyzer and an artist, one who freely uses both logic and intuition equally.

As an advocate of balance, I maintain that we should all strive to hone our minds into a dual brained state. A polarized mind, makes for a polarized person. A balanced mind, makes for a balanced person.

Is This Balance More Desirable Than The Polarized Options?

This question makes maintaining objectivity especially difficult; if not impossible for this writer. Since personally, I have tested consistently as D-dominant, this, no doubt, influences my perspective in favor of seeing “hemispherical balance” as a positive and therefore desirable mind set. Just the same, a simple illustration can reveal a major issue in favor of this stand.

Imagine a large ball on display in a special showroom. The left half of this ball is blue, and the right half of it is red. The ball has been aligned with the blue half facing due west, while the red half faces east. Although, I know, it’s beginning to sound like one, this is not one of those word math quizzes.

Now imagine yourself standing south of this “Big Blue Red Ball” looking north directly at it. To your left you see the blue half, and to your right you see the red half. Then you notice far to the left of the ball a man facing east looking directly at only the blue side.

Meanwhile, over to the right of the ball there stands a woman able to see only the red side.

You hear the man say, “I don’t see the logic of having that big blue sphere in here?”

Then the woman remarks, “Oh my, what a huge red ball that is!”

Find The Wider Perspective From The Middle

While these extremists, either all the way to the left, or the right, limit their fields of vision, in the middle you grasp a wider perspective. From the middle and unique perspective, the ball is seen more fully and known to actually be both blue and red, not just one or the other. Due to this wider perspective from the middle, it becomes a more desirable place from which to both view and even experience life. This is why “hemispherical balance” is such an important concept.

When we polarize ourselves to either the left or the right, we consequently impose limits upon our very perceptions. As a result we fail to see all that life has to offer. With dual minds, we successfully widen our perspectives and find that most desirable balance, which can only serve to positively enhance our lives. So, if you find yourself looking at life through the filter of logic only, or if you just depend on intuition without logic, you need to stretch your mind toward balance.

Exercise the tendency you now neglect; expose yourself to a wider perspective from the middle. Strive toward hemispherical balance, and your life will be enriched. You’ll find greater rationality and joy in your life, as a result.
