Call it fashionable and trendy lifestyle, but believe you me, your trendy and classic lifestyle could ruin your health.

Call it fashion and trendy lifestyle, but believe you me, your trendy and classic lifestyle could ruin your health and below are some of the reasons why I believe so.

Cell phones and Key boards

Keeping your fingers on the cell phone pad, texting all the time and surfing all the time on your computer, typing this or that on your key board could someday cause serious arthritis on your finger joints. Research has found that those who over surf and play computer games or over text on the mobile phones suffer inflammation of the finger joints that could become chronic arthritis.

Stilettos

A woman looks magnificent on a stiletto but there is price to pay. Research has revealed that women who wear high heeled shoes suffer severe leg pains, back ache, knee pains mainly because stilettos provide foot support like flat shoes do to those using them.

Wallets

In my city, the youth especially have some special liking for loaded wallets tucked in their back pockets to show the world around them that they eternally loaded with cash. Many times, what find in an expensive looking wallet is not necessarily bank notes but paper carefully shaped to fit the wallet. However, tucking a wallet in your hind pocket even if for show off could trigger pain in the back, buttocks, and legs in the long run. An eternally loaded wallet has the power to shift the spine out of its alignment overtime causing serious muscle tensions that could cause you lots of discomfort.

Sitting posture while watching TV

In nearly every urban home, there is a TV but research has shown that many of these TV owners get many health related complications watching their TV due to poor sitting postures characterized by slouching back or slumping forward. Poor sitting postures shorten, weaken and tighten muscles around the lower back and could cause serious back pain and strains to the neck. Sitting upright could save your spine a lot of harm and keep you away from such health related problems.

Hairstyle

Women and some men go to the salons to acquire trendy hairstyles. But for those who are familiar with hairstyles, every time one visits a salon for hair dressing, they come back home with complaints of headache. Hairstyles also trigger migraines in the case of those who suffer this problem because migraine sufferers are normally sensitive to braids and other tight head gears that are used in salons.

Skipping a Meal to keep one’s shape.

People who think remaining in shape should involve skipping a meal ought to know, that this could drastically lower your blood sugar.

Time is precious for everyone and spending it for waiting or doing something that is not that valuable simply means that we are wasting this precious time. Maybe, due to some reasons, we may not feel the effects or consequences of us, wasting our time over something nonsense. However, if we think about it thoroughly, we realize, that we are wasting not just our time but our lives as well. Not just our own lives but as well as the people we interact with.

Every second counts. That is how valuable time is. Being punctual is a part of improving our personality. Being punctual reflects us as someone who is responsible and trustworthy. Being punctual helps us value our time but how exactly are we going to become one. It’s not an immediate act. There are steps to follow. Let’s take one step at a time. Here are some steps to help us make our way towards punctuality and make our time more valuable.

1. Acknowledge your Kryptonite. “YOU are not punctual”. Unless you admit to yourself your weakness, you cannot step up and reach your goal.

2. Be Time-Conscious. It’s not really that necessary that you buy new Rolex or Timex. The clock on your phone is enough. Always wear your watch and make sure that it gives you an accurate time.

3. Rise and Shine Sleepyhead. Wake up when you are supposed to wake up. The usual picture is, when the alarm rings, you get out of bed and throw your alarm clock to the trash bin. Poor thing! It’s not its fault that it rang. You set it up, you throw yourself! Kidding! No. Discipline yourself and follow your schedule. Don’t be tempted by your soft pillows and your warm blankets. They won’t help you reach your goal. What goal? PUNCTUALITY.

4. 15 Minute Flash. Be 15 minutes early to everything. Try as hard as you can to get or reach to something 15 minutes early. People will truly respect you for that.

5. Watch yourself. Observe and take note of your daily activities and determine where do you spend much of your time. This will help you minimize those activities and terminate or stop those activities that are not really that useful.

6. Stick Notes helps. Make a note where you should be in a time. Always carry with you your planner. Stick notes on your wall, in your fridge or even on your door walls so you’ll be reminded everytime.

7.Keep Organized. Keep all your stuffed properly arranged. You don’t want to spend your time looking for your misplaced ballpen. Do you?

8. Plan ahead. Planning is a must. Through planning, you will be able to determine and identify those activities that you are about to do in the future.

9. Go to sleep on time. Stop staying up all night just checking out you Facebook account. Your body is not a machine. You don’t want to slow down, do you? Have enough time of rest so you have a full load of energy for the next.

These are all for now. Remember, if you practice it all the time, it’ll become a habit and what’s next could be you being responsible, good mannered and Punctual.

Getting the sack is far from being the end of the world.

Even if you don’t like your job very much, the last thing you want is to be sacked from it. Having the control over your destiny snatched away, finding yourself suddenly without an income, with no structure to the day and no friends in familiar surroundings, having to explain to future employers and the rest of the world why you weren’t wanted. It hurts and it’s messy.

The degree of hurt depends very much on your own resources and what you’ve got tied up in the job; someone whose sense of status is dependent on their position is going to take being sacked much harder than someone who derives their sense of worth from other, entirely separate things. And the person with a life-style (and debts) to go with the position is going to be more adversely affected than someone more flexible. But, however able you are to cope with the eventual outcome the moment the axe actually falls, even if you have been expecting it – always comes as a shock.

Even when in your heart of hearts you know it’s coming, you kid yourself for a while and think you must be paranoid. Even though, as I found out later, everyone knew when it finally happened it came like a bolt out of the blue. It was awful. I thought I was going in for a meeting to discuss some routine business and a few moments later I realized that business was me. It’s horrific to have to go through that.

Cover of Pretty Little Liars #4: Unbelievable

Despite the shock I felt upset but somehow my instinct for self-preservation took over. I did felt damaged inside, but I used that time to work out what I wanted and managed to pull myself together. I went icy calm. I asked for an explanation, put my own case forward and maintained dignity throughout, which was good, it helped me think clearly. I said I should be paid off because I’d done valuable work. I knew work wasn’t the problem. This was politics. My new boss wanted his person in my place. I showed spirit and a sense of fairness, but I wanted compensation for what I’d been through.

I got the money right then – a very substantial amount. My superior just wrote a cheque. That sweetened things; it makes you realize you’re worth something. Really, it all went fairly decently and everyone involved was very pleasant about it. Employers want to be eased out of a situation like that because nobody likes it.

Surviving the actual sacking and getting what you think is fair is one crisis over, but next comes the longer process of recovery.

The next six weeks were awful. You feel angry, shocked, depressed and miserable and you doubt yourself; it’s very upsetting being rejected. And I missed the place; you’ve lost something and you have to mourn. It takes time and you need to be easy on yourself and go at your own pace. At first I couldn’t look people in the eye. I was ashamed. But when I started telling others about what had happened. I found that lots of people had been in a similar position. That helped me cope. In my field of work these things usually happen because your face doesn’t fit, not because of incompetence.

After that I felt a sense of relief. It was summer and I was free. I had time to think out what I wanted to do next. And I told myself I was good. I had existed before and during the sacking and I was going to go on afterwards. So I thought of other ways of operating.

So, I did find another job of my interest and it was good for me. I got my confidence back. I hadn’t fallen off the edge of the world after all and I could keep plugging away. Also, I realized, I felt happier working in a big organization, so, after about a year, a well-paid job in a large firm was molding me positively.

Every person has his own definition of what is normal but being normal may be based on a person's own perception. For better or for worse, people will follow their own road map that they may view as living successfully.

Being a normal person is not something that most people will aspire to. For the most part individuals want to soar to great heights. They will like to be extraordinary. Most will tell you that they wish they were talented. Many may say that they wish they had millions or even billions. Some may aspire for material things like having a large Victorian home, beautiful garden, BMW, sailboat, and even an airplane. They will argue that the sky is the limit. But what about that guy that just want to be normal?

Fitting In

Some may want to fit it. They do not have dreams of hitting it big, neither do they want to bother about those things. All one such person desires is having some good friends. Friends that that they can rely on. Those that he loves and love him in return. To such an individual such a relationship is precious. They will go places together and tell each other jokes. They laugh, cry, and share their experiences. These are the moments that tell tomes about the love that people have for each other.

Friends must be loyal. They should show compassion and walk the walk. Each person has to walk in each others shoes and be happy about it. They defend one another and give support. Running, they breathe the same air. Many times they finish each others sentences. It is as though they know what each one is thinking. Friends are more than special, yet they are normal. They really do not have to do anything special but be companions and show their love. Such normalcy is paramount in such a relationship.

Living An Ordinary Lifestyle

Living an ordinary lifestyle as simple as it may seem, may be the way to go. It does not call for anything lavish. All that is necessary is for a friend to have material things that most middle class families have. Many of these persons enjoy their lives and live with contentment. They do not have to live with excesses. With such satisfaction, they know that they have settled for a simplicity – one that a person can afford.

Being a friend among friends is a marvellous thing. Everyone knows his limitations and lives according to what he can afford. There is no big fuss. These people look at their main objectives as living lives that mean a great deal more than being extravagant. These are some of the things that they have discussed and the conclusions that they have reached. They love their life the way that it is and do not wish to embellish it any further. It is with these considerations that these friends agree to live.

Past Time

It is agreed that there should be no excesses. A friend with many friends will go to any length to preserve their relationships. Friends that are normal do not splurge lavishly. They tend to economize and look for bargains. Many wear clothes that are priced moderately. Go on vacations that are inexpensive and prefer to participate in rather low key social events.

These people love their freedom and will do anything to preserve their beliefs. They are individualists and plan on living life fully. Much of this is done with taste and dignity. Even when playing, exercising or participating in sports, these friends will not overdo it. They realize that they have to do so in order to live a rather sensible and controlled lifestyle.

- – -

Living a normal lifestyle is chosen by some people because they simply feel that is the best thing to do. In many instances, this may be determined by a person’s economic situation. Others may decide to choose this way of life because they just want to live rather simply. As a matter of fact, these friends work to defend these principles and stand up for what they think in their judgement is right.

We learn to read a lenguage by reading. We learn to write by writing and we learn it to speak it by TALKING.

When it comes to teaching a foreign language communication is the key as it is shown on the picture. The days when a teacher stood in front of a bunch of students to tell them to open the book on such a page, or to dictate them long and boring lists of verbs are over.

Learning a foreign language out of the country where this language is spoken isn’t easy. Therefore, a language teacher should convert the classroom into everyday living in the country. There are many ways to do this and the king (or queen!) of them all is the role play.

These role plays are specific situations when one is living in such a country. One may need to get few items from a chemist, or one may wish to travel in another part of the country either by train or coach, or one may go into a bar or restaurant and have to know how to order for drinks or food and how to chat with the waiters and the locals. The list of situations is endless and it is a teacher’s job to work them out.

Books are to be used, but a good language teacher should know how to get out of them.

A role play should preferably be done after having worked on the specific grammar points. This is hard work and, therefore, acting should be used to give them a break before the class is finished.

Dictations

There is nothing wrong with them, provided a teacher updates his ways in doing them. It doesn’t have to be the old fashioned way of “teacher dictates and the students copy out what they listen”. A very interesting way that works very well with intermediate to advanced students could be this one:

The teacher has to prepare a short dialogue between two people. He/she will only dictate them one part, leaving blank the other. On finishing, the teacher will do a quick correction on the blackboard to check misspelling mistakes or things that have been missed out. Afterwards, he/she will ask them to fill in the other part taking into account what the other says. While deciding what to write on the blank spaces, students are allowed to comment among themselves, provided they do it in the language they are learning.

This type of dictation may be also adapted for elementary students, using a simple dialogue.

What is the difference between this way to do a dictation and the old-fashioned one? In the first one, the students listen, write, talk, and according to what they already have, deduce on what the other person must be saying. In the old-fashioned way, they just listen to copy it out.

Games

As with the use of role plays, games should be used to communicate and to strengthen these grammar items in which the teacher feels they need to practise orally. The students may be weak on using the different tenses. Then, the favourite one is the coffeepot game where all the different tenses are going to be used by asking different questions. The leader of the game thinks of an action verb. The rest have to guess what verb it is by asking them. They use the noun coffeepot in substitution of this verb. (Are you coffeepoting now? or how often do you coffeepot?)

There are loads of games and activities to do an effective and enjoyable language class in which the students are eager to learn and to become interested in the culture, customs and lifestyle of a given country. A teacher, of course, should avoid stereotyping it too.

In fact, teaching a foreign language should be as easy as a mother who is teaching her child to talk.

ABSTRACT

The study was conducted in two blocks of Agra district of UP (India) to investigate the influence of farm telecasts on the lifestyle of farmers. Influence of farm telecasts as perceived by farmers was discussed under three broad areas i.e. economic, social and psychological sphere. The findings revealed that maximum number of male respondents had low and moderate economic influence whereas in case of females, the maximum number of respondents had low economic influence. Maximum number of males and females had moderate social as well as psychological influence. Statistical significant difference was found between economic influence of telecast on the lifestyle of male respondents, whereas in case of females, non-significant difference was found. Similarly significant difference was found between economic influence of telecast on the lifestyle of male respondents, whereas in case of females, non-significant difference was found. Likewise statistical significant difference was found between lifestyle of viewers with their social as well as psychological influence of telecast in both the categories of respondents.

Key words: Economic Influence, Farm Telecasts, Lifestyle, Psychological Influence, Social Influence.

Introduction:

Television plays an important role in non-formal education and deals with important issues relating to social and economic progress of rural people in the world. Salzman (1993) pointed out that television is playing an important role in the modernizing processes of rural life. Behaviour of the viewer is not a change or random phenomenon, it is a response to a cause or stimulus and it is purposeful and goal oriented. It is intended to accomplish some objectives, which in turn would satisfy or at least reduce some need of the viewers.

Object:

Present study was objected to analyze and understand the influence of the farm telecasts on the lifestyle of the viewers.

Experimental Techniques:

The study was carried out in two purposely selected blocks namely: Etmadpur and Khandouli of Agra district (10 progressive villages) of UP (India). Twenty two TV owner farmers (11 Males and 11 Females) were randomly selected from each village, considering farmers who had television sets for the last three years, thus making a total sample of 220 respondents.

In the present study the influence of telecast was operationalized as the effects of telecasts as perceived by the viewers on their life. For this purpose, all the possible influences of telecast were divided into three spheres, viz., economic, social and psychological. A well-structured interview schedule was used for data collection. The level of influence of telecasts on the viewers’ life was classified in-to three categories, viz., low, moderate and high on the basis of mean # standard deviation. To analyze the relationship between independent variables and dependent variables, chi-square test was used.

Experimental Findings:

Viewer’s Lifestyle:

Large number of males (41.82%) and females (44.55%) respondents had semi-modern lifestyle. It was followed by 35.45 per cent modern and 22.73 per cent traditional lifestyle of male respondents. In case of females, it was followed by traditional (30.00%) and modern (25.45%) lifestyle.

Economic Influence of Farm Telecasts:

Maximum and equal number of male respondents (34.54%) had low and moderate economic influence followed by high (30.92%) economic influence. Whereas in case of females, it was found that maximum number of respondents (40.00 %) had low economic influence followed by equal number (30.00 % each) who had moderate and high economic influence. Overall, it was found that maximum number of respondents (37.27%) had low economic influence followed by moderate (32.27%) and high (30.46%) economic influence.

Large number (68.00% male and 54.55% female) of the traditional lifestyle had low economic influence followed by moderate (16.00% male and 27.27% female) and high (16.00% male and 18.18% female). Overall, it was found that majority of the respondents (60.35%) of the traditional lifestyle had low economic influence followed by moderate (22.41%) and high (17.24%) economic influence.

Similarly, in case of males maximum number (41.30%) of the semi-modern lifestyle had moderate economic influence followed by low (32.61%) and high (26.09%) economic influence. Whereas, females (38.78%) of the semi-modern lifestyle had low economic influence followed by moderate (34.69%) and high (26.53%) economic influence.

It was found that maximum number (46.15% males and 50.00% females) of the modern lifestyle had high economic influence followed by moderate (38.46% male and 25.00% female) and low (15.39% male and 25.00% female) economic influence. Statistically significant difference was found between economic influence of farm telecast on the lifestyle of pooled and male respondents (X2 =27.208** Pooled and 20.638** Male; P < 0.01%), whereas, in case of female, non-significant difference was found (X2 = 09.476 NS ; P < 0.01%).

Social Influence of Farm Telecasts:

Maximum number of males (41.82%) and females (43.64%) had moderate social influence. It was followed by high (34.54% males and 30.00% females) and low (23.64% males and 26.36% females) social influence. Overall, it was found that maximum number of respondents (42.73%) had moderate social influence followed by high (32.27%) and low (25.00%) social influence.

In case of males, more than half (52.00%) of the traditional lifestyle had low social influence followed by moderate (48.00%) social influence of farm telecasts. Whereas, in case of females more than half (54.55%) of the traditional lifestyle had moderate social influence followed by low (45.45%) social influence of farm telecasts. None of the male and female of the traditional lifestyle had high social influence of farm telecasts. Overall, it was found that maximum number of the respondents (51.72%) of traditional lifestyle had moderate social influence followed by low (48.28%) social influence.

Similarly, maximum number (47.83% males and 44.90% females) of the semi-modern lifestyle had moderate social influence followed by high (36.95% males and 30.61% females) and low (15.22% males and 24.49% females) social influence.

It was found that more than half male (53.85%) and female (64.29%) of the modern lifestyle had high social influence followed by moderate (30.77% males and 28.57% females) and low (15.38% males and 7.14% females) social influence. Overall, it was found that more than half (58.21%) of the modern farmers had high social influence followed by moderate (29.85%) and low (11.94%) social influence. Statistically significant difference was found between the social influence of farm telecast on the viewer’s lifestyle (X2 = 54.815** Pooled; 31.799** Female and 25.692** Male; P < 0.01%).

Psychological influence of farm telecasts:

Maximum number of males (38.18%) and females (41.82%) had moderate psychological influence. It was followed by high (36.36% males and 30.00% females) and low (25.46% males and 28.18% females) psychological influence through farm telecasts.

Majority of males (60.00%) and females (54.55%) of the traditional lifestyle had low psychological influence followed by moderate (40.00% males and 45.45% females) psychological influence. None of the male and female of the traditional lifestyle had high psychological influence of farm telecasts. Overall, it was found that majority (56.90%) of traditional lifestyle had low psychological influence followed by moderate (43.10%) psychological influence. Similarly males (41.30%) and females (46.94%) of the semi-modern lifestyle had moderate psychological influence followed by high (39.13% males and 26.53% females) and low (19.57% males and 26.53% females) psychological influence. Likewise, it was found that majority of the males (56.41%) and females (71.43%) of the modern lifestyle had high psychological influence. Whereas, few (10.26%) males and none of the females of the modern lifestyle were with low psychological influence of farm telecasts. Statistically significant difference was found between the psychological influence of farm telecast on the viewer’s lifestyle (X2 =69.547** Pooled; 43.775** Female and 29.761** Male; P < 0.01%).

Conclusion:

The study revealed that maximum number of male and female respondents had semi-modern lifestyle. It was found that maximum number of modern farmers had high economic influence. More than half males and females of the modern lifestyle had high social influence. Similarly, majority of the males and females of the modern lifestyle had high psychological influence.

A significant difference was found between economic influence of telecasts on the lifestyle of male respondents whereas, in case of females, non-significant difference was found. Similarly, significant difference was found between social influence as well as psychological influence of farm telecasts on the lifestyle of both male and female respondents.

Have you resolved to keep your resolutions this year?

Every year, people all over the world mark their entry into the new year by making any number of New Year’s Resolutions. At the start of the year, it’s become tradition to write down a list of things you intend to change about yourself or goals to achieve over the course of the next year. But how many people actually stick with their resolutions?

I know personally I rarely manage to stick with my resolutions. Either I make them too difficult for myself, or I simply forget about them after a month or so. A lot of people I know are the same, either forgetting or giving up on their resolutions only a few days or weeks into the new year. In a lot of cases, however, it’s not their fault (or, not entirely their fault at any rate). People underestimate just how difficult it is to change your habits, or mould new hobbies into your current time schedule.

The trick to keeping to your new year’s resolutions is making sure they’re simple. Or, if they’re lofty and complicated, make sure they can be broken down into smaller chunks which you can easily achieve piece by piece. Don’t try and get more done than you genuinely think is possible.

Example

I intend on getting more exercise into my life. More specifically, I’ve made a resolution to get into shape. I’m not overweight (in fact, people regularly comment on how thin I am and think I’ve an eating disorder….it’s annoying. ), but I am hideously out of shape. I can’t sprint for more than about ten metres without getting a stitch and it can take me a very, very long time to catch my breath after doing so.

I can’t just start going to hour long sessions at the gym, or join my friend on his regular runs around our university campus. I would quite literally die if I started with those things. So I start small.

Up until now, I usually get a bus to the nearest bus stop to my house when getting home from college. It’s about a fifteen minute walk. The next bus stop down adds another fifteen minutes onto that, as well as a hill. So I’ve started getting off at that stop instead to add some distance and a slope into my daily walk. As an addition, it wouldn’t make much difference if I walked just as slowly. I’d just take longer, I wouldn’t be doing too much more work. So I make sure I get home in as close to fifteen minutes as possible, meaning I have to walk almost twice as fast.

It doesn’t sound like much, but a half hour walk a day is described as being very good for a person’s health. Starting small, and working up is how you complete your Resolution. I’ll start jogging or cycling next, then maybe start going to a gym.

By breaking your New Year Resolution into nice, easily managed parts it is much simpler to complete them. Want to learn a new language? Start small by using a book, or get a tutor. Want to learn how to paint? Don’t start painting mountains, start by painting something small like an apple and work your way up.

So, good luck with any New Year resolutions you’ve made for yourself! Try sharing with people here, give each other ideas! What New Year Resolutions have you made, and how do you plan on sticking to them?

It is just a small 6 months for the world, But it was a big and long 6 months for me. I was absent from triond. I used to be regular here everyday. But the present lifestyle and over busy schedules did not really allow me to be here for last six months.

During this time, i have faced numerous experiences which changed my days and my lifestyle. I am cought with cardiac problem. I am not much allowed to be with PC for long time. Even i wish to seat, my wife does not allow me. Life has become too much routined. My sleeping, working, fooding everything has come within timed programms.

But within this time, i had some special successes also. I have hosted my own sites. I am happy with the performances of them.

How are you my old friends? I missed you all too much. Thanks to you all for visiting my articles and commenting me regularly.

Just a few hours left for the new year, 2012. Withing you all a GREAT NEW YEAR.

Beth was one mom who resided in a house in the and surrounding suburbs of a southeastern town. She had three youngsters. The house she resided in was in a very awesome community. She had associates and loved ones member regional.

She used most of her time looking after her children. Her house was far away from the other residences in the community.

She had a large garden for her children to engage in. She determined to buy a program to protected her loved ones. She select a little quality gun. She always kept it protected and securely away from the children. She acquired all she could about managing that form of program. She did not anticipate any problems but she desired to be ready.

One evening when the children were all resting she observed a disturbance. She got her gun and mobile cellphone and went to examine. She gently sneaked to the place where she observed the disturbance. She saw a crook going through her elements. He must have come in through the screen that was eventually left start. She attracted her gun and determined to strategy him.

She said put your palms up and convert around or I will photograph. The thieves said take it simple and put up his palms and gradually transformed around. She said do not switch. I am going to telephone the law enforcement. She known as the law enforcement. The crook must have known it would take the law enforcement a few mins to get there.

He said go forward, photograph me and began jogging toward Michelle. She said I am not joking I will photograph you. He said no you want because I am disarmed. If you photograph me, you will go to arrest for homicide in this condition. Michelle was a little confused and stopped to think. That is when the crook broken the gun out of her side. He got it and indicated at her.

He said I should wipe out you but if I get found I will go to arrest for lifestyle. Immediately at some point he observed a alarm in the range. He transformed and eventually available the gun through the screen he came in. Michelle was so shaken up that she transferred. She revealed her gun as being thieved. She could not help questioning if the crook was right about the law. She investigated it. He was exactly right. Michelle imagined, man what a crummy law.

Most crooks are recurring criminals. They are thoroughly well known with the rights program and personal condition regulations. The normal person is unaware of most regulations. They do not comprehend the law like crooks who have been in and out of arrest most of their lifestyle.

Some crooks invest decades in jail, and are provided to be able to inform themselves on the law and other topics at your cost. Many are never cool, but are able to use their increased understanding against people. They are thoroughly well known with sentencing. They also know what will get the sufferer in problems.

They know the loopholes that will keep them out arrest. They also know what will put the not guilty sufferer in arrest. The rights program is complete of regulations that protected the legal and create it challenging for people to protect themselves. Many declares are beginning to realize that regulations are used to protected people not crooks. They are generating appropriate changes. Until then you must always have a strategy to protect yourself if necessary.

A short article on the conflicting sentiments of New Years Eve.

It’s that time again. 2012 is right around the corner. This is a time of the year during which two very different sides of our nature can be seen. New Years Eve brings out the hard partying and carefree binge that we have all come to expect during the silly season, while in contrast, hopes and self-promises of a healthier and more restrained lifestyle in the new year come through the omnipresent wet blanket that is New Years Resolutions.

How do we decide? Should we opt to relinquish our unhealthyness in a favour of a more pure and relaxed life? Or concede to the easy exit of abandoning our new ideals? Perhaps the internet holds the answer:

Search trends from Google indicate distinct patterns in New Years Resolution related searches, that show high numbers of searches around the end of the year, but sharply dropping numbers after NYE. This suggests that try as we might, resolutions are generally but a theme of the New Year, and not a lasting commitment.

However there might still be hope! Research has shown that if a person holds and believes in qualities such as belief in their own abilities and self-control, they are far more likely to acheive their resolutions for the New Year.

So, who can decide whether or not you can better yourself in 2012? The net says nobody; you’re doomed to fail. Other research is more encouraging, saying that with the right ideals you can acheive your resolutions, but when it comes down to the wire, only you can decide if you have a succesful New Years Resolution.

Happy Holidays!
