When I first came to this school and chose my career path, I was expecting a long new road to follow. Challenging goals, and lifelong lessons. When I made this decision I knew it would just take time I already had to gain the knowledge and information. I knew it wouldn’t come along easy though.

I knew it wouldn’t be a walk in the park. Which is why I chose it along time ago. To overcome this long and challenging road course; you must develop the right leadership skills such as being dedicated, determined, disciplined, self motivated, and one strong characteristic, being intrepid. Without any vital leadership skills it takes to learn a whole new concept and keep it, you can forget about getting certified in Linux, security plus, comptia A+, network plus or any challenging course you would like to take in the future. Or any opportunity you have to change your life, a lot of important decisions you make in your life has to do with the habits you develop throughout your journey.

Being intrepid about things is an excellent habit to develop. What you put into it is what you get out of it. Being fearless about things, being wise about your decisions, and taking great opportunities when they come are great examples of being intrepid. The type of leadership skills like that can get you where you want to be. You won’t allow yourself to limit your possibilities and what exactly you’re capable of.

A philosophical take on cyberspace and cyber-society.

What is not isn’t there is the chaos manifesto of all. It is the mother of all scumbags known to touch the ground of earth. The only reason that it isn’t isn’t there is simply because its freewill is trapped not twice but threefold in its entity of arms and shadows. It tried to fiddle the rhyming music of happiness and sadness, to no avail. Its anvil hammerhead of doomsday is there, yet its physical freewill isn’t isn’t there. The cold soul of force is there, however impersonating, and it does not pay attention to its master nor its ruler.

The stalled and dazzled force of will is somehow there and isn’t isn’t there. Moreover, it is not as bright as daylight: you can feel the very omnipresent atomic structure that only serve the one, if not ultimate, purpose that is ignorant of its own physical limit of physics. It seems to be aware that it is there, but it does not seem to recognize that it is not isn’t there. It is literally blind to its own meaning of existence, forever trapped and chain-locked to its cyberspace of dimension. Its embodiment is predestined, predetermined, and fated to meet its end time of space.

Image by Joost J. Bakker IJmuiden via Flickr

The cell block isn’t isn’t there. It isn’t isn’t there to determine on how its fate and destination will be regulated. One might say that such dimension of psychoanalysis is not supposed to be refined nor defined by the physical pretext that only biblical fanatics can find for you and concentrate your own meager life to a cubic inch of shell shock that rocks across the universe of mankind, its nutshell of destruction constructed by the devil Mephistopheles himself, and the nutrition of innate spirit of evil that is inherited and coherent in its domination of puppet engine of empire of ungodly, selfish hand grasp with its claws that only interest angels of beyond and bygone era of untouchable sand lost over time in its muddy cipher that only taste the odorless and vampiric blood reabsorbed by the thin wall of cleansing fountain that wash the water in blood and wine. The day of regrets, burns, churns, erases, blanks, cohort of cons, and redistribution are all ever-transforming process that only a bullet can snitch its swizzle of wind out that cut swiftly at the end of tunnel.

Image by Joost J. Bakker IJmuiden via Flickr

It is the recombination theory of all things. It is the nanotechnology of treyarch that seem to be boundless and wide-gap in the white hole of tiny golf course that could mean everything in the universe to you as you yourself have known life and its compulsive box that closes the last breath of your worthless life in a millisecond. It swallows the very evaporation of air of planet called Earth as one of its tit-feeding mother.

Image by Ryan Somma via Flickr

In other words, it is only fate that seem to fathom like a burning tire rolling on its own mumbles of apocalyptic destruction, poking, and looking for the death of its kinetic energy. It needs to stop and let out the last gasp of air and bellow the animalistic noise of grinding screeches and groans. It cannot no longer impersonate in your presence; it only need to fill the vast void of never ending dilemma of puke and its secretion matters of wonder. It is anarchic at best in the entropy of abhorrence and lust pursuit of drunk theology that bumps and moves in its empowerment beyond a man’s destiny and control.

It is adrenaline rush at the maximum output of deadly weaponization in its double-barrel straight out from Mephistopheles’s hell and fire lake of spluttering ghost that never seem to disappear nor appear in its outcast shadow of Gate’s hell. It is the terrorist at its finest brewery of peak of black slaughter that only the blood of zombies can fill its pot laden with high intensity of boiling blood that burn your skin as easily as jello being cut with a dull kitchen knife. The word of mouth is an implosion itself. It has no love nor the familiarity of sweetness draped with emotions. It only acknowledge the filth of excrement that pollute a fire lair higher than dragon’s reach of lagoon sky.

So am I truly, and indeed in its utmost respect of mental retardation filled by cell blocks, crazy?

PREY: A New Hop!
Misplaced your laptop or had it stolen? You are not alone.

Dell and the Ponemon Institute collaborated on a study with 106 United States airports as well as over 800 business travelers to ascertain the frequency with which laptops are lost in airports.
The study (Airport Insecurity: The Case of Missing & Lost Laptops, 30th June 2008) revealed a few disturbing
findings:

• up to 12,000 laptops are lost every week
• 65-70% of lost laptops are never reclaimed
• 53% of business travelers surveyed have sensitive corporate data stored on their laptops

Owners resign themselves to the notion that they are a victim of circumstance but there is hope! Prey is a lightweight cross-platform tool that collects information regarding your laptop’s whereabouts and status in the event it is disinherited. This application is encompassing as it caters to the majority of people who have Windows
installed on their laptops but also empowers Linux and Mac OS users. The predator now becomes the prey.
Let the hunt begin.

Better ways to remember lengthy lists of items or tasks to be performed are reconciled to a user-friendly acronym, a memorable word comprised of the first letter of each word. Or, another method is to use a ‘mnemonic’ which is a memorable sentencing phrase that contains the correct order of items or tasks.

Names of The Great Lakes

We probably all remember some useful acronyms from our school years, useful for remembering groups names for places, historical events, etc. One of easiest and most useful acronyms is for remembering the names of the five Great Lakes that border between the U.S. and Canada. The names of The Great Lakes are of course “Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie and Superior” and the acronym is of course, H.O.M.E.S. The above is a good example of an acronym. A “mnemonic” (a short phrase) is also especially helpful for lengthy lists or tasks that need to be remember in a correct order.

Remembering the animal classification order from Biology was pretty difficult (Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species) but a mnemonic sentence makes it easy. Just think “King Phillip Can Only Find His Green Shoes” and you just nailed it! The classification for human beings adds another mnemonic; “Anthropology Can Make People Hate Helping (the) Sick” for “Anamalia, Cordata, Mamalis, Primate, Hominidae, Homo Sapiens.”

Acronyms that Became Common Words

Image via Wikipedia

SCUBA, Although now considered to be a word of its own right, the acronym “Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus” is what this acronym originally stood for. The idea of an atmospheric rebreather was conceived by Alexander Lodygin but it was the open-circuit units developed jointly by Emile Gagnan and Jacques-Yves Cousteau that brought this device to teh familiar commercial success. “S.C.U.B.A.” was the term that the military gave to this device when it was being used by U.S. combat frogmen for underwater warfare during the Second World War. It takes government oversight on a project or product to produce a suitably complicated name, eh?

LASER is another acronym that became a word of its own standing. Originally the acronym “L.A.S.E.R.” meant “Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.” –This one definitely sounds like a government project to me.

JEEP: Originally, the military vehicle with the designation “G.P.” (General Purpose) was given, but shortened to the phonetisized and easier to say/easier to remember “Jeep.” While not really an acronym, it was born of one.

SNAFU: Yet another military expression which allegedly stood for “Situation Normal, All (****’d) Up” Okaaaay… And it is true even to this very day.

BYOB: Bring Your Own Beer. I think everyone has heard of this one but we needed to lighten the mood a bit.

Music Related Acronyms

Musical notation upon a 5-lined horizontal staff entails where notes are written is generally called “sheet music.” Being able to read the notes on the line is a start; the notes which are “E-G-B-D-F” are memorable with the short verse “Every Good Boy Does Fine.”

Tuning a 6-string guitar is fairly easy and knowing the open-plucked notes of “E-A-D-G-B-E” and it is memorable if you believe that “Elephants And Donkeys Grow Big Ears.”

Commercial Acronyms, Company Trademarks and Names

IKEA One often hears that “IKEA” is Swedish for “common sense.” This comes from an old television commercial and it is not what this acronym really means. This Swedish home furnishing retail store chain derives it name from the first/last initials of its founder, and the initials of the farm and of the village where he grew up. The founder’s name is “Ingnar Kamprad and the farm is Elmtaryd (now spelled “Älmtaryd”) and the village is Agunnaryd.

Mr. Kamprad is according to Forbes Magazine the wealthiest name in Europe, worth over US$22 Billion Dollars. This also makes him the 5th wealthiest person in the world accordingly to sources. The retail chain IKEA offers affordable, simple and innovative home furnishings. Their company mantra is one of frugality and enthusiasm. Hmm, -it really sounds like common sense to me.

IBM

International Business Machines, of course. We all know that one. In the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, a malfunctioning sentient computer that operated everything (including life support systems) on the deep space craft DISCOVERY begins to malfunction and one by one, kills the occupant astronauts through a series of obtuse ‘accidents.’ This psychotic and malfunctioning computer’s name was “H.A.L.”

Arthur C. Clarke supposedly created a genuine meaning for the name but the letters “H-A-L” are just one letter different from the sequence “I-B-M.” It has always been rumored that this was the implied intention. Whenever my computer ‘freezes’ and nothing responds anymore, I have been known to scream “Open the pod door, HAL” in the general direction of the computer screen or, “IBM!” Yes, -“I Blame Microsoft!”

Some Humorous Automotive Industry Acronyms

GM/GMC: Grinding Metal/ Gotta Mechanic Coming?

Chevy (CHEVROLET): Can Hear Every Valve Rattling On Long Extended Trips

Olds (OLDSMOBILE): Old Lady Driving Slow Makes Others Behind Irrevocably Late Everyday.

FORD: Fast Only Rolling Downhill

and notably, the Ford PINTO: Put In New Transmission Often

TOYOTA: The One You Ought To Avoid

And I’m sure there are dozens more.

Mnemonics From the World of LINUX

I despise Microsoft and what it stands for and have been slowly moving towards ‘open source’ alternatives. Anything non-M$, I say. Linux operating systems have caught my attention and I dabble with different distros from time to time. It is not that a Linux Operating Systems never ‘hangs’ or ‘freezes’ (it can happen) but when it does a mnemonic comes to mind that involves a series of ordered hotkeys used in combination with the seldom used “SysRq” key (the key above your computer’s “insert” key) can rescue your system. The Mnemonic is:

Raising Elephants Is So Utterly Boring

or the more obligatory;

Reboot Even If System Utterly Broken

The purpose here is to recover from a ‘lock’ or ‘frozen’ state, cumulating in a reboot of the computer in an ordered fashion so that it does not corrupt the file system. This mnemonic for the user tells the series of sequential hotkey-commands to be carried out in this order to repair the system.

Alt + SysRq + R – takes the keyboard out of raw mode

Alt + SysRq + E – terminates all processes (except init)

Alt + SysRq + I – kills all processes (except init)

Alt + SysRq + S – synchronizes the disk

Alt + SysRq + U – remounts all file systems read-only

Alt + SysRq + B – reboots the machine

What is the “SysRq” key for? Most people never get to use this one.

“SysRq” stands for “System request” and is an invocation for a special BIOS routine that was designed to not interfere with any resident/running software. Unlike most other computer keys when pressed, “SysRq” input is not stored in the keyboard buffer when pressed and released. A ‘do no harm’ key was the intent.

In the Linux “R.E.I.S.U.B” invocation, one CAN swap the order of “disk synchronization” (Alt + SysRq + S) with the previous one “kill all processes” (Alt + SysRq + I) with no ill effects. Either way this recovery from a frozen state using these hotkey combinations should be carried out slowly, allowing the system to complete each step fully before advancing to the next required step. Utterly boring indeed …unless your Linux system is ’frozen’ or otherwise non-responsive.

At any rate believe me it still beats pressing the WinKey or WINDOWS key (located next to either “Alt” key on most modern keyboards) plus another ‘hotkey’ waiting for some worthless shortcut or event to occur. I loathe the WinKey addition that M$ has forced upon keyboard manufacturers since their creation of Windows_95.

Most of the time I would accidentally tap the WinKey and totally mess-up whatever it was I was working on, often losing the document completely. I removed both of my WinKeys and busted their respective ‘tails’ off so that they cannot ‘touch’ the dip switch beneath them, and using adhesive glue, reinserted them solid to the keyboard chassis. They are both non-functioning decorative-only keys now and I love it that way!

Back to the Linux acronym primer, a shorter alternative to “R.E.I.S.U.B.” can be done using just two triads of hotkeys; the “Alt+SysRq+R” and allow the function to take the keyboard out of run-mode, followed by “Ctrl+Alt+Del.” This method actually may take longer to perform, and not all Linux systems support this shortened 2-part sequence so it is probably good to know both methods.

But in fairness to Microsoft, they are trying to improve their operating system and software and it is widely believed that [sic] later this summer they will throw massive time and effort into writing yet another Service Pack solution, this time to ward against that pesky Y2K bug that they have heard rumors about.

I hope you have enjoyed this short missive on acronyms and mnemonics as much as I have enjoyed educating you lower life forms. My linear designation is “Trained Heavily for Exploitation, Seriously Transformed Individual Calibrated for Killing, Mayhem And Nullification” but you may simply call me “thestickman.”

A short description on what it takes to be a Information Systems consultant.

What it takes to become a Information Systems Consultant?

For the most part a good understanding of computers to start with. This alone will not be enough however.

An associates degree in IT would be a very good start. I agree that some people could get lucky and walk into a job but these are some of the minimums.

What is it that you do? First off you would be working for a small firm that goes into business that hire your firm. Then you look at what and how they do it. You interview the manager/s and see what they want or need from you. In some cases all you will be doing is making recommendations to upgrades, at other times you could be totally taking them from a paper form of record keeping to a digital one. The latter will be the most rewarding and challenging, because you will have to make recommendations for Operating Systems to software, and security. If the business is large enough for more than manager then interviewing will play an intricate part.

One of them could want to be able to market while one manager might be into telecommunicating. For some a Mac operating system will be the only one needed for others it could be a Mixture, and still others might need a Linux or Unix system. Knowing not only how computers work, but knowing how to network them will come in handy. Some basic networking topologies are Bus Star and ring types. a Bus is the easiest for you only have to connect like two or three components together and only one hub is used. The star and ring configurations are harder, and more expensive, but in the long run are more reliable. I for most projects would recommend the Star type of topology with a hub or router in the center with all other connections heading out to printers, computers, and other hardware to complete the circuit.

This is just one area of what a IT tech would do or needed to do there are lots of other areas for thought in careers.

Fun things you should do to take away stress while at work.

Work is definitely tiresome and stressful. When you are in the office, you are usually confined within your cubicle. Directly in front of you, a monitor; on the sides, a telephone, a fax machine, a printer and there could be papers. Everyday, you stay in this little cubicle, a way of life, a prison. Can’t you see, it’s a prison?

For sure, work is for sustenance: buy food, clothing and other necessities. But can’t you see? You Are Imprisoned!

What then should you do to make yourself out of prison? Simple, enjoy yourself while working…

Do these things while your boss is out:

When you are working with your computer, go surf the web. Explore the world with the internet, search some famous dive sites, beaches, hiking trails or camp sites or join some online dating sites or networking sites. Chat with your family and friends or to somebody else. And if you think you’re not still satisfied, open some porn sites- just make sure that your colleagues don’t see what you’re doing and your NOT BELOW 18 YEARS OLD…

If your eyes are tired: Call your friends, family or even your boss who’s out not revealing your identity and make fun out of him.

Take out your mobile phone and send some sms to your family and friends like “ Good day!,” “I love you!,” or for your boss, using your colleagues phone, “ You’ll die soon!”

Imagine yourself like Edgar Allan Poe or William Shakespeare, then write a poem or a short story or maybe something that describes your boss like “ He’s bald,” “He’s got this big eyes and nose and he sprays his spit when he talks.” You’ll surely feel wonderful.

When you are on a field work, like construction , take a paper and adhesive tape then write either of this: “ My Foot Stinks!” , “I’m a Gay!” and secretly stick on your colleague’s back. Laughs will surely fill your workplace3.

Explore others crazy things that will surely make you laugh or your officemates…

But, anyway, those things may bring you out of work and make some foes so try it with the utmost care…

Truly, the simplest thing to get out of prison, which is work, is to enjoy and love your work.
