Guindaruhan National High School is one of the national high schools in the

Municipality of Minglanilla, Cebu, Philippines located at Barangay Guindaruhan, Minglanilla, Cebu.

The school is using the Revised Basic Education Curriculum. It has officially launched since 2002. The learning institution up to now adopts the Special Programs like ICT, ALS and other related programs. It is hoped to be fully implemented on the succeeding years.

The  school has existing 15 teaching personnel of which 12 are nationally funded, 1 is funded by the provincial board, 1 by the municipal board though special education fund (SEF) and 1 by the non-government organization.

Guindaruhan National High School is situated in Proper Guindaruhan, Minglanilla, Cebu with a total land area of 20,001 square meters or 2 hectares. The school site is acquired through Proclamation No. 529 by the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Malacañang Manila, last February 21, 1990 (occupying a lot no. 7409). The school is found 10 kilometers away from the National Road and 50 meters away from the Barangay Road.

Cebuano is the principal dialect in the locality.

A.    SCHOOL

A Brief History of Guindaruhan National High School

            The Guindaruhan National High School (formerly Guindaruhan Barangay High School) is the second Public Secondary School which was established in 1982 in the Municipality of Minglanilla. The first High School is Camp 7 National High School through the effort of the following persons: Hon. Eduardo R. Gullas, the Congressman of the first district of Cebu, Hon. Eduardo Ma. C. Selma, the Municipal Mayor and Hon. Macario Saavedra, the Barangay Captain who is concerned with the youth’s welfare in the barangay and neighboring barangays to have a Public Secondary School in the far-flung barangay like Guindaruhan. The first year class was housed inside the premises of Guindaruhan Elementary School in Taboan, with the administration and supervision of the elementary school head Mrs. Crispina  Adlawan.

            There was a proposed school site for the incoming High School, but at hand it was firstly sheltered in elementary school for an experimental purpose.

            There were 17 males and 26 females enrolled with a total of 43 students at that time with one teacher Ms. Lourdes Cabatuan. She was having a house to house campaign, encouraging parents who cannot afford to send their children to private schools in the town, after graduating grade six, to enroll them in new founded high school within the community. She handled all the subjects in that school year and whose salary was funded by the municipal local government and voluntary contribution from the PTA with the leadership of Jaime Baclaan, the PTA President.

            Some parents had realized that poverty is not a hindrance to achieve education and it is really needed for the future of their children, so enrolment has increased as well as another year levels which have been completed starting with first year up to fourth year levels.

            The mentors who took part in the completion from first year to fourth year levels of Guindaruhan National High School were the following: Mrs. Henrisa S. Fernandez, SY 1983-1984; Mrs. Glenna C. Plarisan, SY 1984-1985; and Mrs. Delia D. Saavedra, SY 1985-1986.

            In the school year 1985-1986, the school with the endeavors of the newly elected Barangay Captain Andres A. Mañacap, the Barangay council and Parents Teachers Association had transferred their students and brought their own chairs to the prepared school site  located at the Proper Guindaruhan which is five kilometers away from the National Road. The new building had only two rooms wherein every room had a division to be shared by first year and second year and another by third year and fourth year. It was the same as what the elementary school had practiced.

            The First Secondary High School graduation was held in elementary school, together with the elementary graduates on April 4, 1986. Out of 43 students enrolled in SY 1982-1983, only 19 were survived, 13 males and 6 females, and each of them was able to receive a high school diploma. The Guindaruhan National High School was already on its 24th  year in service to the community last school year  2010-2011.

            In August 2005, upon reshuffling of the school heads, Mr. Andres M. Nuñez who came from the City of Naga, (formerly Municipality of Naga) has led the school into meaningful and interactive administration. At the same time, in the school year 2011-2012, Dr. Ermetes F. Adolfo, Jr. who came from Minglanilla National Science High School has been given a DESIGNATION ORDER to run a school and officially designated effective last March 18, 2011 as School Head of Guindaruhan National High School to further administrate the affairs of said learning institution.

            This school year 2011-2012, there are 483 students mentored by the 12 nationally funded teachers, 1 Provincial School Board, 1 Municipal School Board Teacher and 1 Non-Government Funded Teacher.

The school really needs additional teachers as mentors to handle and facilitate the implementation of the Department Program with the desire to attain the vision for a globally competitive institution through the Quality Basic Education.

            Through the efforts of the School Head and the concerted efforts of the teaching and non-teaching personnel, there is a strengthened linkage and partnership of the nearby stakeholder “the JLR Construction and Aggregates  Incorporated” which has adopted the school Guindaruhan National High School for several years now.

    Then the press conference came and turns out all the commotion was to drop the university from the medical center’s name. OK big deal we will now call it Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and other local medical center such as Lexington Memorial Hospital will now be called Wake Forest Baptist Health – Lexington Medical Center. Truth be told locals are still going to call the medical center The Baptist or Wake Forest. Also in this unveiling was the new logo that the medical centers are going to share to me another ok big deal.

   However it wasn’t until later in the press conference that what many thought was a big deal came out. This dropping of one word and a new logo was going to cost the hospital $3.5 million dollars over the next two to three years. Change your name ok, but come on can you not spend the money you are going to spend on new business cards, badges, pamphlets, signs, and so forth on something that really needs help.

    Let me give you a few suggestions dear old Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. As a health care provider you are obligated to treat patients and help people. Why not put those millions of dollars into some plans to do that? I know from a personal experience that your Downtown Health Plaza needs some tuning up. How about some more people on the phones so patients do not have to wait 30 to 40 minutes listening to elevator music. How about paying some more doctors so patients do not have to wait months to get an appointment? Or even hire some new nurses and lab workers who don’t smell like smoke and act like they care about their jobs and you as a human being period.

    As a long time patient of the medical center I think the medical center is great and is making amazing advances in the medical field, but come on can you not spend that money on something truly necessary. People are going to call the medical center whatever they want to anyways so why not provide them with more services instead of a new name on a brochure.

The man who designed the I Love New York logo, or I Heart New York, first scribbled it out in 1975 while he was riding in a taxi cab. He expected it to last about six months and then disappear. His name is Milton Glaser and he is an icon in his field.

The background to the story is one of economic collapse. New York was going bankrupt, nobody wanted to invest or visit. An appeal to Federal Government for help was turned down by President Gerald Ford. The logo was commissioned by the New York State Economic Development Department who were desperate to start a turnaround and get people to think better of the state. Over the years the logo has come to represent the city alone but it was originally intended for the whole New York state.

The logo is a statement of something that many New Yorkers felt, and expressed, about their town – in spite of all its dangers and problems. The genius of Glaser was to take that sentiment and turn it into something memorable and important – make it a rallying call for the re-birth of New York.

His explanation for the success of the logo follows the processes your brain goes through when it is confronted by something new, and not immediately understandable. Glaser says that to understand the logo the brain first has to work out three things. That I means you, that the heart means love, and finally that NY means New York. Then having done that, and recognising what is being communicated, the brain feels happy. Because that is the function of the brain, problem solving, and there is satisfaction in a job well done.

Another success for the logo of course is that by leading your brain into this process – it has engaged you. Your attention has been captured and because the result is brain happiness – you will remember.

So the logo has stopped you, engaged you, and left you happy. The rule of three again – and isn’t that the basis for all successful communication? Advertising Agencies know that, politicians know that. Think about Ronald Reagan. In this context it doesn’t matter whether you agreed with him or not. The point is he communicated brilliantly, and simply, by following that three step process.

So could you design something like the New York Logo? Remember the rules and you have every chance. To encourage you, here’s one more rule from Glaser. Hang on in there, don’t get worn out, stay on the case. 

I ♥ NY

The “I love New York” logo was created in the 1970s by Milton Glaser to promote tourism in New York City. The emblem has found its way onto t-shirts, hats, hoodies, stickers and even into tattoo designs. The “I heart New York” tattoo below is a design based on Milton Glaser’s logo.

New York Yankees and Brooklyn Mets

Many New Yorkers are avid baseball fans. There is a huge amount of competition between New York Yankees fans and Brooklyn Mets fans. Some of these fans have decided to show their support for their teams by having their team logos tattooed onto their skin. 

New York Yankees fan tattoos

The New York Yankees logo was designed by Tiffany & Co, and was first used by the baseball team in 1909. The interlocking NY logo has varied greatly over the years and there are currently three variations of the logo in use.

Brooklyn Mets fan tattoos

The New York Yankees logo and the Brooklyn Mets logo are similar in design, both using the letters N and Y as in interlinked image. The Brooklyn Mets logo uses serif  in the design – decorative tips to the letters. The Brooklyn Mets baseball team also has a logo which simply reads “mets”, as seen in a picture below.

Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn is one of the most famous areas of New York, and its landmark, Brooklyn Bridge, is known the world over. Completed in 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge is one of America’s oldest suspension bridges. The beautiful architecture of the Brooklyn Bridge has translated well into tattoo designs.

September 11 tattoos

On September 11, 2001, New York was the victim of a terrorist attack. Two planes were flown into the famous Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, killing thousands of people. This event shocked America and the world. Nine Eleven has been remembered in many ways, with memorial services to commemorate those who died on 09/11, artworks, books and documentaries. There are a number of people who have chosen to have tattoo designs so that they will never forget 9-11-01. Most of these designs incorporate the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center, to memorialize the destruction of these buildings in the aftermath of the attack. The New York skyline transformed when these buildings fell, changing the lives of New Yorkers.

Many of these 9/11 tattoos are worn by family members of those who passed away on September Eleventh, to commemorate their loved ones.

Statue of Liberty tattoos

The Statue of Liberty, finished in 1886, stands on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. The sculpture is of Libertas, the Roman Goddess of Freedom. She holds a flaming torch and a book of law, and at her feet are broken chains. The Statue of Liberty is the most famous New York landmark, and is a symbol of the American dream. The statue was a gift from France to America, to unite the French and American citizens. The Statue of Liberty tattoos shown below use the statue as a symbol of freedom and independence.

Empire State Building

The Empire State Building is another famous New York landmark, named after New York’s nickname, The Empire State. Between 1931 and 1972, the Empire State Building was the world’s tallest building. It became New York’s second tallest building when the North Tower of The World Trade Center was completed in 1972. Following the bombing of the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers in 2001, the Empire State Building once again became New York’s tallest building. With it’s recognizable architecture, it’s no wonder that many people have chosen to create Empire State Building tattoo designs. 

New York Giants Tattoos

The New York Giants are an American football team who have achieved three NFL titles from the 1986, 1990 and 2007 Super Bowls. Proud New York Giants fans have had the New York Giants team logo inked into their skin.

New York Rangers tattoos

The New York Rangers ice hockey team is one of America’s oldest ice hockey teams. The team is based in New York, New York, and play their home games in the famous Madison Square Gardens. The New York Rangers team logo depicts the face and crown of the Statue of Liberty, above the letters, NYR. The logo uses the colors of the American flag, red, white and blue, colors that compliment each other well in a tattoo design.

A little bit about Frida…

Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo Calderon was born in the neighborhood of Coyoacán, then on the outskirts of Mexico City on July 6, 1907. Mexican painter. At eighteen, Frida Kahlo had a very serious accident, in this period she learned to paint. His paintings depict mostly from their personal experience the painful aspects of his life, spent in large part lying on a bed.

Frida Kahlo Museum, in the “blue house” where he was born and died, is the most visited of Mexico and has become a place of pilgrimage for thousands of fans of the artist.

It all started with a girl, Renee, who was 19 at the time and in a very dark place in her life.  Jamie Tworkowski  asked her what she’d say if he were to tell her story.  She told him to tell everyone who were to hear the story to look up and remember the stars. 

At first the idea of TWLOHA was not known by many.  They started out on myspace and eventually more and more people heard the story and were inspired, or felt they could relate.  Those teens who caught on to the idea started sharing how they could relate to Renee, and a movement began. 

Jamie’s story speaks of how Renee’s past was painful, and how she got to the point of  needing Rehab, but when she went to enter they told her she was too great of risk because they had no means of detox.  So Jamie and a few friends took her in for five days.  They showed her love, memories to remember, and fun.  They went to a show of her favorite band; Band Marino, a basketball game, and the taste of chaos tour. 

Music can definitely be healing.  If you’ve ever been to a show like the taste of chaos tour,then you know  it is an outside show.  With the lights and the atmosphere, it feels like healing and hope.

Is the feeling of helping someone how God feels when we surrender our broken hearts, and trade death for life?  Some would like to believe so, because the feeling is so grand.  It is just a shame that there are many out there who don’t like the idea of helping others.  On the other hand, healing is definitely possible.  Even if someone does not have the means to go to rehab.  The people who want to help do what they can, and find any means they can to provide help. 

Don Miller says, “We are called to hold our hands against the wounds of a broken world, to stop the bleeding.”   That is where To Write Love On Her Arms get their “Stop the Bleeding” slogan.  We may not be able to help those that were hurting and passed on, because we cannot change the past, but we can help those who are hurting now.

Anyway, Last night I was able to find a website that there are tuns of projects on the site, and even more people who are a part of the site. All these designers on one site.. We have to compete against each other and try to get the contracts that we want to get. In order to do that, we have to design what the client wants, even though all we have to go by is written type of what the client thinks that they want. Most of the clients that need designs do not give specs as to what fonts they want used or the colors. The designers have to guess. What fun!  

I had a graphic design teacher in collage who was the same way on purpose. He wanted to prepare the students for clients who think they know what they want, but when they see designs, they really do not want that at all, and change everything on the designer. 

Right now, I’m working on a logo for a clothing company who wants to be uplifting and targeted towards women between the ages of 25-40.  The logo is also for athletic wear.  There are so many different designs on the site, it’s hard to try and be different when you have an idea and you look through the work that is posted… lone behold, there’s a design that looks similar to the one you have. Therefore you have to change your design a bit to be different. Not completely, but enough to stand out against the other person.

Now, I would like some constructive criticism on any of the logos on this file that you would like to give, but please do. There are 4 days left and the contract is set to end on the 12th of may.

But do you know that the art of oral story telling has evolved into an ‘International World Story Telling Day’ that falls on 20 th, March, 2009?’

The International World Story Telling Day is celebrated on 20 th day of March, 2009, on the date of spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere, which is the first day of autumn equinox in the Southern Hemisphere.

The roots of the International World Story Telling Day may be traced to Sweden, where it began in the year 1991-1992 as a National Day of Story Telling. However, thereafter it was not pursued with vigor and enthusiasm. But people in Sweden sporadically continued to celebrate the day.

Thereafter in the year 2001, the story telling day was celebrated in Australia; then it spread to some countries of Europe particularly in Holland in the year 2004, which witnessed a sudden celebration of story telling Day by some 300 children.In the year, 2007, the International Story Telling Day was celebrated in Newfoundland, Canada, in a grand manner, signifying the launching of the International World Story Telling Day, in the North American continent. Now the International World Story Telling Day is celebrated in about 25 countries around the world, in five continents.

The International World Story Telling Day signifies the art of oral story telling. It has been traditionally in practice for centuries through oral communication. In fact, the art of oral story telling has been conveyed and transferred from one generation to another. But the art of oral story telling has lost its relevance and importance due to the growth of written literature as well as due to the evolution of visual media.

On the International World Story Telling Day people narrates their stories in their own language, which means stories are told in various languages throughout the day as well as the night. The underlying idea in celebrating the ‘International World Story Telling Day’ is to establish contact, exchange different ideas, to carry on the legend of story telling among various people at the International level.

During the celebration of the International World Story Telling Day, each year, a theme is selected on which the story tellers have to narrate their oral stories to the audience, especially the children. From the year 2004 onwards, the International World Story Telling Day has been celebrated with a particular theme for story telling on every year.The themes for the International World Story Telling Day from year 2004 onwards were as follows: 2004 : Birds, 2005:Bridges, 2006 :The Moon, 2007:The Wanderer, 2008: Dreams and the theme of the current year 2009  is ‘Neighbors’.

The International World Story Telling Day has a logo that was designed by Mats Rehnman of Fabula Story Telling, Stockholm. The logo has a combination of five children, signifying perhaps the congregation of children from five continents. Therefore, those who celebrate ‘The International World Story Telling Day’ may use the logo but giving due credit to Mats Rehnman.        

The art of story telling has not developed much because it has remained mostly a private affair between grandma and children or between parents and their children. Another impediment that has prevented the growth of the art of oral story telling is that people have been mostly shy in nature to narrate their stories in public.

Therefore, on the eve of the International World Story Telling Day, we should take concrete steps to develop the art of oral story telling by forming clubs, by taking individual initiatives, by interacting with your own children, besides encouraging them to tell their own stories.
