Simon Cowell is on the screen as it is elsewhere. Ambitious, brutally honest businessman. So before the start of The X Factor, had said that if he had an audience of 20 million viewers! consider their program a failure.

After all, the public did not respond as he expected and decided to fire the host and two jurors, including his great “friend” Paula Abdul. After what Simon Powell considered a failure, surprised everyone by putting off The X Factor Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and presenter Steve Jones.

“It’s business, nothing personal,” he told the publication Extra. It seems that a bit of guilt pursues the English because he hinted that what happened was their fault. “It was because I opened my big mouth and told him of the 20 million viewers,” said Simon.

“I do not think Nicole is angry, is probably disappointed,” he said, and as Paula said: “It is very polite and let them know.”

But past is past for what is already in the search for replacements. For the moment denied that Madonna and Beyoncé were among the candidates.

Few commentators agree as to what this song really means. Here are my interpretations.

THE STORY IN THE SONG DON MCLEAN AMERICAN PIE 1971

This is a challenge of a song to decode as it is often highly cryptic with even its composer / performer McLean being very tight-lipped about many of the lyrics.

The overall theme is straightforward. A boy delivering newspapers discovers, probably from the headlines on the papers in front of him, that his hero, Buddy Holly, has died (3rd February 1959). It ruins much of his life and his sense of the American Dream from there on. The boy is considering a career as a rock and roll singer himself. The song is quite autobiographical and McLean charts the effect of Holly’s death over the whole decade up to the release of his own song.

The death affects the narrator’s mood so much it ruins his chances of getting a date with the girl he most admires. He sees her dancing at a gym concert, and knows that she loves a figure referred to merely as ‘him’. This is the most ambiguous line in the song. It could be a mutual admiration she and McLean had for Holly, or a reference to some other boy the girl is dating, and possibly with when the young McLean seeks consolation in her company. He is devastated by her rejection. The young McLean has rushed to see her for comfort following the death of his icon, only to stumble upon her infidelity.

The good old boys singing and drinking refers to his sense of the establishment going on despite the fracturing revolutionary dreams of youth. The singer resents the lack of a sense of mourning from the people around himself. Family and older friends just carry on as if nothing monumental has taken place.

The quartet is almost certainly Rolling Stones. The same verse refers to “moss growing fat on a Rolling Stone” giving a sense that there once radical shocking liberated lyrics have lost their edge.

“Helter-Skelter” refers to the Charles Manson killings, allegedly inspired by a Beatles song about a fairground slide ride. The words Helter Skelter were scrawled in blood on the walls of one of the Family’s murder scenes. The murders are often seen to epitomize the end of the free love and peace vision of the 60’s for many.

“Eight mile high and falling fast.” The eight-mile high refers to a song by the Byrds, and the reference shows how a drug-induced euphoria deflates and comes down again. The utopian vision acquired becomes a cruel illusion.

“This’ll be the day that I die” inverts the title of Holly’s biggest hit, ‘That’ll Be The Day (that I die)’. Somehow, the newspaper boy knows that life will never be the same as good again.

Mclean moves through other shattering events of the post war era, including the Kennedy assassination and the disastrous December 1969 Altamont concert, a one-day only Woodstock style show that ended in riots and fire. The Rolling Stones were on when the violence got too bad for the event to be allowed to continue. Four people died at the show. Many of the bands appearing had also performed the peaceful Woodstock event just four months previously.

Many have speculated on who various other figures in the song happen to be and all I can do is add my own interpretations.

Miss American Pie – possibly Holly’s widow, or a general reference to the sense of American childhood innocence, and the death of the dream. It could be a reference to the girl McLean lost to another boy that day he heard of Holly’s death.

The Jester – Probably Elvis Presley who became the new ‘king of rock and roll’ – a title Buddy Holly may well have carried had he lived into the 1960’s.

The King and Queen – JFK and Jackie Onassis.

James Dean – The Jester is seen borrowing Dean’s image, so this could be Elvis. It could also be a reference to Bob Dylan, who had performed before the British monarch in a James Dean Jacket, though the UK has / had no king in this period. (The 1960’s).

Jack Flash – Mick Jagger, whose Rolling Stone’s group performed a song called Jumping Jack Flash? The reference to the candlestick may be a mocking sense of Jagger leaping about as if he has just burnt his backside. It may be a serious criticism of the band continuing to play at Altamont after the first violent incidents and when other musicians had already pulled out for safety reasons. More violence followed until the show had to be stopped and the band was unable to complete their set.

The Father, son & the Holy Ghost, described as catching ‘the last train for the coast’ may be Holly, Richy Vallance and the Big Bopper, who died in the same plane crash, or a reference to the rise of religious cultism around California and San Francisco, and the decline of mainstream religion and genuine faith in the US. It could also be an expression of atheism – the God has effectively departed. It may also be JFK, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, who were all assassinated in the 1960‘s.

Satan – Virtually anyone who spoilt the Dream, from Lee Harvey Oswald to Charles Manson.

The flames may refer to the violence and riots that erupted in Vietnam protests or the Altamont concert.

The Girl Who sang the blues – Janice Joplin, whose death was another nail in the coffin of the Woodstock generation.

The McLean version of the song is long, often presented in two parts on single releases; with DJ’s sometimes presenting only part one to save airtime. A dreadful cover version was performed by Madonna in 2000 in which randomly skips many of the verses in the song. She reduces the song to a few verses and a cheery disco beat chorus and makes no effort to understand or interpret the lyrics. Her version sounds simply vacuous, soul-less and cynical.

An enigmatic, haunting song (the original) that will forever keeps us guessing and yet which at least in itself keeps the music from ever truly dying.

The lyrics – http://www.lyrics007.com/Don%20McLean%20Lyrics/American%20Pie%20Lyrics.html

Madonna's new film about the Duke and Duchess of Windsor is entitled W.E. after the way they signed off letters to each other, W for Wallis, and E for Edward. Her new album is called MDNA, but what is that referring to?

When Madonna announced the title of her new album she created a Twitter buzz – which was obviously the idea. But what does MDNA stand for? It could be Madonna – DNA - which makes sense. Or it could be after an active ingredient of Ecstasy, not a bad choice for a club album. Who knows?

Peacock – or Turkey?

What is certain is that critics are certainly not in ecstasy over her new film, W.E. She has yet to make a breakthrough film and it’s not going to be this one. The subject is the unfulfilled lives of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Critics agree the film looks beautiful with its art deco styling, Dior frocks and Cartier jewellery - but they don’t like the complicated storyline. The couple’s story is intertwined with the life of another Wallis and the device doesn’t work. One critic agrees the styling is terrific but goes on to say “This is a turkey that dreams it’s a peacock.” Ouch!

The tragedy of the couple’s life together was that he gave up the throne of England to marry her, then failed to find another role and they spent their days together in gilded exile, wondering what to do next.

The controversy that stayed with them was their relationship with Hitler in those dramatic pre-war years. They were both impressed by Hitler because he seemed to a defence against the threat that worried European aristocracy most – the rise of communism. There was also anti semitism throughout the upper reaches of society so Hitler filled a role there too.

The Windsors were not alone in their admiration of Hitler. Many British politicians on the right thought he should be appeased, allowed to carry on his policies of re-arming and the takeover of neighbouring territory. The hesitation to move against Hitler, helped along by the attitude of people like the Windsors, gave him the time he needed to gain strength militarily.

The hesitation was fatal, and led to the second world war which the Windsors spent in exile in the Bahamas. He was given the title of Governor but the idea was to keep him out of sight and unheard.

After the war the Windsors settled in Paris. The Royal family would not let them return to Britain. The present Queen’s mother was bitterly against them because his resignation forced her husband into a role he was not suited for, King of England. The award winning film The Kings Speech deals with his problems.

Madonna’s film about the Windsors will be a reference point for the lifestyle but fails to deal with the biggest event of all. Their relationship with Adolph Hitler – the 20th century’s great mass murderer.

Gene Simmons – Shannon Tweed @ Hollyscoop.com

Although newly married on October 1, 2011 and then, but the couple had lived a life without marriage for 28 years. It is proved that this couple is really harmonious. What makes the couple with two children was so compact live together?
As revealed by Gene Simmons on Hollyscoop, constant communication is the latest recipe in maintaining harmonious relations. In addition, the husband of Shannon Tweed also revealed that sexual intercourse is also very vital role in domestic life.

“Communication is constant and do a date night at least once a week, hehe! Do not forget to have sex with a variety of styles. Always think to do something new,” said the personnel of this Kiss.

Furthermore, Gene also asserts that sexual intercourse should also be done with a passion. Because the casual sex that would make couples get bored quickly, and ultimately will make the atmosphere of the household to be cold and flat.

“Romantic atmosphere is important, but people are more fertile certainly hope that his wife could be a Madonna in the kitchen as well as a prostitute in bed. It was very accurate,” he added.

In the mind of Gene, Madonna portrayed as the perfect and ideal woman, but that does not mean he has to use sexy clothes while cooking, although it also may be tried. While the prostitute in question Gene is passionate female figure who is able to make her husband also surged, and ended in satisfaction.

Barbara Walters is no doubt going to choose someone in the Media...you know the people that made the NEWS. I would like to think that you can find interesting people not so much in the spotlight. I have found an interest in more than I can actually list but some just stick out.....

This list is in no particular order…….

Image by nick step via Flickr

THE COUPLE NICK CANNON AND MARIAH CAREY:

Is it me or do they make a very interesting couple? They really don’t seem to fit at all, however. Remember, Mariah is older, once marry to one of the biggest Music Moguls, Tommy Matola. Then she and Tommy divorce and sometime during the early 2000s she loses her voice and you hear that she is having emotional issues. I sort of suspected why this happened to her, and when someone touched on the reason for her issues, they were surprisingly close to my reasoning. But that’s not the point. I love Mariah, love her singing but her persona has always been a little confusing to me. Then she marries Nick Cannon and I am truly confused, thinking that he looks like a guy I would have thought as Dorky-Cute in High School…sort of like a little brother and if I had dated him, I would’ve ended up liking him more than loving him. But hey, that’s just me.

It was during the Barbara Walters Interview that I really became fascinated with the two. The question that Barbara asked, if Mariah trusted Nick, Mariah looks at Nick and says “I don’t know, should I trust you?”. Nick seems a little surprised by that question but his face is hard to read. Still you felt that he couldn’t believe she asked him that. Such a candid moment, a real moment that shows that no matter how famous a woman gets, a woman still has her thoughts. Mariah re-acted similarly to what I and a lot of other girls would have. I mean can you really say you trust your man? Even if you do, you may not say so. To say so is a little too dramatic, a little too mushy and a sort of ‘why ask’ question. Now, bottom line, Nick is obviously in love and Mariah seems content but I just had the feeling that she may be more assertive than he is in the marriage. I just picked it up in their dialogue. Nick Cannon is no slacker, it’s obvious that he could have gotten whatever type of girl he wanted because he has money and so does Mariah. Two people that hitch up with one being unknown or poor is one thing. Two people hitching up on similar ground is another. I love the twins, I love both Nick and Mariah, but interesting? You best believe they are to me!

Condoleeza Rice:

Where is Condoleeza’s man, boyfriend or husband? She has dated an Athlete I know and is rumored to be dating some Prime Minister now. But she keeps quiet. Oh, she is such a lady! Say what you want about the Bush Administration, I like this lady because she is so accomplished, brilliant and one of the youngest Secretary of States you’ve met, if not the youngest. And she was such a lady in doing so. She’s poised, speaks her mind and makes risky statements to some people. She was asked on the View why there were two Caucasian gentlemen that were her first role models. Condoleeza cut through the chase stating that you cannot wait for a particular ethnicity of someone to become your role model, that you take what is available. There were no Blacks in what she was pursuing at the time and found role models in another ethnic group. You know, that doesn’t sound odd to me at all!

Now, to be honest, I think this woman is living a charmed life, a life I would have liked to have experienced had I been in her field of work or any other work for that matter. Being Black and a Republican is her business. This is a free country. I don’t state my political affiliation because I am very much Independent, voting my conscious more than a party or a man. Why can’t she choose to be what she wants as well? Her life could be quite simple and a little dull to some by comparison, but I think it’s charmed just the same. Think of her experiences, the people that she’s met and the world she’s traveled.

Mrs. Jackson (Michael’s Mother)

Have you ever met that person that looks as though they have a whole lot in their head and is screaming to get out? That’s how I feel about Mrs. Jackson. The second year into the death of her Famous son and yet you’ve heard very little of her still. Admittedly, I saw a few interviews with her and found out that she still goes out in the Community spreading Jehovah’s Word but that doesn’t tell me how she feels. She is and has always been the Matriarch of the family. Her husband philandered on her but you never heard or saw signs of bitterness, happiness, anger, joy. She’s so very quiet. I’d just like to ask her first, how it felt to raise such a handsome and talented bunch of children in that small, one bedroom home in Gary, Indiana. Then I’d like to know how it felt to lose Michael. Only a mother knows. I’m a mother. But I cannot imagine since there was so much publicity surrounding her son’s passing and finally that unfair trial. I just wonder how she feels about it.

Teena Marie:

Seems like Mainstream America was not ready to hear this Caucasian female, once a protege and lover of Rick James, come into her own. I don’t call this woman a Soul Singer. I cannot stand titles like that. I would say that she sang so soulfully, so melodically and wrote great songs as well. She was a Musician and performed with her family before meeting with a Black girl while in High School and began to look for jobs singing in L.A. I do recall that the Black Community embraced her like WOW. I introduced her music to family and friends. She had one of the most beautiful voices around.

Instead of her going big, I look up and there is an uninspiring singer by the name of Madonna and Cyndi Lauper. I did not find one song of theirs that I liked but do admit that they are both very creative, very campy and could be called original. The only thing is that the more original and different folks try to be, the more they seem the SAME. That’s just my humble opinion. Still Teena Marie was very much herself, sweet, earthy and talented, went on to Motown and another big label and made a great impression in the music world creating some chart-topping songs. She came to my hometown in the 1990’s and gave one of the most brilliant shows you can imagine. She passed away this year and it’s pretty much hard to bear, being such a fan of hers. To me, in this era of female singers, I say none could touch Chaka Khan and Teena Marie. Now I have only Chaka Khan!

Image via Wikipedia

Jodie Weiss:

He was our Chief Of Police until the new Mayor took over. To be honest, I want to know who our Police Chief is now…do we still have the Interim Hilliard who was once the Police Chief? Nothing against the gentleman Mr. Hilliard, but crime was raging then. Mr. Weiss, an FBI man had bought the numbers down. I am native Chicagoan, I know when crime in our City is up or down. Seems like jealousy doesn’t let ordinary Police embrace a real FBI man which I think would have been a plus to the Men in Blue. Not. It’s something about outsiders in this City. We’d never had such a man and it is still obvious to me that we need them!

Every single time I watched an interview with Mr. Weiss I felt bad for him. Bad because he was not appreciated. This man always spoke in a calm tone, always articulated his points very well and took ridicule like a man.

The Rapper Common:

Even though you can read a lot about him, he is still very interesting. Commons’s real name is Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. I’m not a big ole Rap Lover, get me right, but I saw him perform on television last night and it renewed the fact that some Rap Artists are really, really cool. But it doesn’t stop there for Common. He has a lengthy career in Movies, Music, Videos, Television and his commercials did send me to the Gap! He is a young man from my hometown as well, even growing up on the South Side as I did. He has a daughter and has dated the likes of Eryka Badu and Serena Williams. Seems to me he likes earthy types. I may be a little too flighty for him….besides being too old. That is okay, he is still cute. But honestly, I’d just like to sit down and talk about his Chicago roots and how he perceives our city. He’s Christian and I know we could share our ideas on what it means to be Christians. To put it out there as I see it, he is one Classy Guy from Chi-Town and would certainly interesting for any smart girl to meet!

AMY WINEHOUSE:

I watched her father speak on the fact that one of her Posthumous songs has gone big. He says that he is bursting with pride but of course his hurt is still raw and can’t listen too much. I can understand it. Unlike a lot of out of control substance abusers and troubled entertainers, Ms. Winehouse did have a wonderful support system in her family. Such a tragic brilliant and talented figure gone far too soon. Nothing much to say about Ms. Winehouse but my personal opinion. I didn’t get a chance to even know her that much musically because her reputation with substance abuse always superseded what she was actually doing. So I didn’t get to witness enough of her talent. Now that she’s gone, I can listen and see what the love for her was all about. Brilliance.

Madonna: I Was Bullied And Boys Called Me Hairy Monster

One of popular music’s biggest icons Madonna has revealed she was bullied as a teenager. She told the press that she was picked on by boys in her school.

“The boys in my school would make fun of me,” Madonna said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar this week.

According to the big music star, boys would call her a ‘hairy monster’ because she had stopped shaving her armpits, which she did out of spite of all the taunts they were leveling against her.

Pop icon Madonna in her younger years

“I refused to wear makeup or have a hairstyle” she said “I refused to shave. I had hairy armpits.”

According to her, she saw how popular girls in had to act in order to get boyfriends. “I knew I couldn’t fit into that.” She said. She therefore decided to the opposite by acting wild and not shaving.

Some Women Are Hot Because Other Women Find Them to Be Hot, Not Because the Average Guy Would Be into Them.

A lot of people do not understand the appeal of Lady Gaga. They think she is a talentless hack who hustled her way into pop culture who is just weird and strange. Others will never get Nicki Minaj; they can’t understand why a legion of fans would want to dress up like Barbie, a strange phenomenon considering that Barbie represents the cat’s meow from a Scandinavian perspective, as supposed to being an African-American phenomenon.

But what comes around goes around. The appeal of Lady Gaga has been revisited before; Cyndi Lauper was eccentric artist from the eighties that had a very unique way of delivering messages with sexual themes in a particularly non sexual way. A lot of people think that Lady Gaga is trying very hard to be Madonna, but her eccentricities suggest that she is a contradiction in studies and is more of a cross between Cyndi Lauper and Madonna. You have to understand that Madonna was sexy in a very traditional, All American way, and Lady Gaga is sexy because she is different. She talks about sex to get your attention, but when you get to know her, conventional attitudes about what is sexy and what isn’t go out of the window.

The same can be said for Nicki Minaj; co-opting Eurocentric values has been done before. While Lil’ Kim is the closest comparison for her era, men who were the age of Nicki Minaj’s female fans now were busy creating their own look twenty years ago. First we went after the whole Ralph Lauren, college prep look because we wanted to look and feel like some rich kids, or that we had a trust fund somewhere. We were poor and needed something to take us away from that reality, and the whole Polo thing was born. By the time Lil’ Kim came around we were chasing an Italian/mob/Eurotrash fantasy. There was class warfare, and though everyone was poor; you had to differentiate yourself from your peers that were still wearing Polo. They could have Ralph Lauren, you had Versace and Christian Dior, which was perceived as a step up.

Nicki Minaj has her work cut out for her though. It has to be about more than fashion, because that has already been done before. It has to be about more than being ghetto, or the ‘hood, because that has been done before too. So the brilliant idea of being eccentric and being in character was born, and that set her apart from other rappers. It doesn’t matter that the Barbie thing is not real or attainable, that is exactly the point. It is a way to lose yourself and get away from yourself, as it always has been.

It would be hypocritical for someone in their thirties or forties to criticize an artist like Nicki Minaj on the premise of the Barbie concept when they themselves were trying to be someone who they weren’t when they were her age. When you are in your twenties your outlook on what is real and what is important is a different than what it is when you are in your thirties. I can be someone else, lose myself, and express myself, in other ways now. Fashion is still there, but it is not quite as important as it was back then. There are other ways for me to articulate myself, fashion is just part of the package.

Women can connect with other women and convey their sexual side to each other in ways that have nothing to do with how men connect with them sexually. In other words, there are a lot of female artists that are sexy to each other and to other women, and men pick up on that energy and like them because of how other women perceive them. If these same women were to intentionally deliver an idea of sexuality that is tailor made to men’s fantasies, like Katy Perry, Britney Spears, or Kim Kardashian have, it wouldn’t work. They do not have what men are looking for in that department. So they take a different route, a rarely traveled, misunderstood route, more Lindsey Lohan and Paris Hilton, less Jessica Simpson, and men can appreciate it.

The confidence that these women exude is what it sexy, not the way that the women look. Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj are not anyone that you would fantasize about, but if you met them in real life it would be pretty cool. It is that accidental run in with someone who knows how to play the game, like Erykah Badu, that is sexy and memorable. There is more than one way to be sexy; a lot of artists recognize this for what it is, but few rarely get the credit that they are due …

It is worth millions and yet leave Madonna’s brother, Anthony Ciccone, living on the street? Hard to believe! Yet it is the assertion that man of 55 who spoke to local newspaper the Michigan Messenger. He said to live for a year under one of the bridges in Traverse City, Michigan, since he lost his job in the vineyard of his father in Sutton Bay.

He then received a free meal in one of the churches of his city, he told the press that his family had turned their backs, including his sister millionaire.

“My family was turned away, while I was going through a bad period. You think I did not answer this question billions of times – why my sister is a multimillionaire and I am a homeless person who lives in the street? “

Very affected by the cold, he explains that he has already suffered more severe frostbite, and many of his friends homeless died last year from hypothermia. Madonna does it remain unaffected by this call for help?
