Schools in Chicago, USA, is now teaching Mandarin and encourage students to study in China.

Pursue science through to China. This adage applies not only in the homeland, but also started to feel repercussions in the United States.

And, as with many schools in Indonesia, the students in the state of Illinois, the United States get Mandarin lessons at their school.

Wen Ya Lu one language teacher at Walter Payton, preparatory school to college in Chicago, said, “For students, learning Mandarin is a very smart investment choices.” Since more than ten years ago, Mandarin language lessons are included in Chicago public school system curriculum.

William Spence, vice chairman of Chicago-Twin Cities Committee of China, said the Mandarin language teaching is one way in which Mayor Richard Daley to embrace China, America’s second largest trading partner.

“Mayor of Chicago initiated a Mandarin language teaching program in America. In Chicago alone there are 42 schools that teach Mandarin to more than 12,000 students, “said Spence.

Chinese President Hu Jintao appreciate this effort. In his state visit to America, he took the time to go to Chicago and met students and teachers at Walter Payton.

Shanghai Expo 2010 will also help improve America’s popularity in China. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asked the State Department to participate in the exhibition was to establish the American Pavilion. He said the Mandarin language is learned American students were really able to be practiced in the pavilion

“One of the reasons that make the American pavilion into second place of the most visited is because many Chinese citizens who passionately want to see young American who can speak Mandarin. They ask all sorts of questions, and American young couple asking about the correct pronunciation, and it is fabulous. We need to do more than this, “said Clinton.

Minister Clinton asked Mayor Daley was vice chairman of the Advisory Board 100 000 Strong Initiative. Initiative is an initiative launched by President Barack Obama in 2009 to encourage the 100,000 students studying America to China. The success of this program depends on the number of institutions across the United States that followed the Chicago program.

Furthermore Spence said, “There are about 15 other cities in America that mimics the Chicago model by including language teaching Mandarin in the curriculum in public schools.”

Although more and more Mandarin language teaching is given, the State Department said the number of Chinese students who study English 600 times more than the American students who study Mandarin. In addition, the number of Chinese students who study in the United States 10 times bigger than the American students who study in China. 100,000 Strong Initiative is expected to bridge the gap.

This is no surprise here that Spanish has the most popular language. It has 322 million speakers. This makes it the third most spoken language in the world by native speakers.

Arabic has 452 million speakers

Arabic is spoken well over in over twenty Middle Eastern countries. I found this interesting that Arabic is one of the oldest living languages in the world. Even though Arabic is the language used in the Qur’an, most of the Muslims are not native Arabic speakers.

Hindustani has 650 million speakers

Hindustani is an official language in Pakistan, India and Fiji. It has a large number of dialects, the two most prominent being Standard Hindi and Urdu. In fact, the conquering British in the late 1700s used Hindustani and Urdu interchangeably.

Hindustani is the most common or neutral language used in Bollywood films (or Hollywood) and is the second most spoken language in the world by NATIVE speakers.

Mandarin has 1.05 billion speakers

With over 800 million native speakers, Mandarin Chinese tops the list of languages by native speakers. Considering China is the most populous country in the world, if you think about it it makes a lot of sence. Mandarin, consists of several dialects spoken across most of China.

English has 1.5 billion speakers

I was a little surprised that English was found to be the most popular language on the planet. It is spoken by two of the most formidable global powers in recent history.

Countries like India, China, Singapore and Taiwan were merely just like any other country in the eyes of the might countries such as The United States and the United Kingdom.
In this article, I will give you a brief summary about what simplified Chinese characters are and how they came about and how you too can learn them. Before you learn all that, I recommend that you go over to the following website to learn more about how to learn simplified Chinese. Okay, so now let’s move on to the history of traditional and ancient Chinese characters and why many people felt the need for a change which ultimately led to the introduction of simplified Chinese characters.

The literacy levels in China upto a couple of decades back was very low and this was causing quite a bit of concern among the people. The blame was put on the traditional characters which had some complex strokes which had resulted in many people finding it incredibly tough to learn them properly. Therefore, the government of the People’s Republic of China decided to change the characters a little bit in order to try and increase the literacy levels and to help people. Therefore, the government then decided to introduce simplified Chinese characters and released charts that outlined the changes that had taken place.

So this is a brief overview on how these characters came about. Good luck with your efforts to learn simplified Chinese.

One of five people on Planet Earth speak Mandarin Chinese. That makes the goal of learning the language a great objective.

If one is not already able to read Chinese characters, it is best to concentrate on learning to understand spoken Mandarin and learning to speak the language to some degree. It is a daunting task but can be accomplished. In fact, it is easier for a native English speaker to learn Mandarin than for a native Chinese speaker to learn English. There are no new sounds to learn to make if one already speaks English. However, Chinese speakers need to learn to make some sounds of the English language which are not found in Chinese.

One unique tool to use when learning Chinese is called Hanyu Pinyin. It refers to the attempt to try to write sounds in the Chinese language using the Roman alphabet. It avoids the need to learn to read Chinese characters, at least for a while.

There are other languages used in China besides Mandarin. The language used in and around Beijing is the official language of the country. That is Mandarin Chinese. It is also the one which foreigners most want to learn. Although it is the national language, there are dialects within the language, just as there are many dialects of English. Those regional differences do not actually interfere much with learning the language.

Of course, immersion learning of a new language is usually the most effective. However, it is not always possible. In that case, language classes in Mandarin are available in many large cities. They offer the next best option. If one knows a few Chinese speakers, practice is possible with a native speaker for any corrections which need to be made while learning the language.

Do not discard the idea of a lot of self-instruction. Study from books and recordings can be beneficial in learning a second language. The major negative factor is the need to have some feedback on pronunciation and vocabulary. That is why having a native speaker around to provide feedback.

The two most important elements in learning Mandarin are perseverance and patience. The perseverance involves the self-discipline to make yourself stay on task. You need to work four days a week regularly in order to make progress. If you take time off for a couple weeks or longer, you will backslide in your language-learning goal.

Patience involves realizing that you will not be able to learn a new language in a few weeks. Take time to acquire quality rather than quantity. Learning to use the language and learning to begin to think in the language takes time. Do not try to learn great lists of new vocabulary or learn many grammar rules in the new language. Frankly, one will become more fluent after a year or two of study than within a month or two.

One of the major complications a native speaker of English has when learning Mandarin is the tones. There are four tones in Chinese. They are a high, flat tone, a rising tone, a lowering tone and a dipping tone. You can learn more about production of the tones by using a recording if you do not have a Mandarin native speaker available to assist you.

One last note concerns Mandarin-English dictionaries. They are useful for speaking Mandarin as they help you look up words to use to make your point. They are not helpful for listening to Mandarin since the spelling of words you hear will not be clear enough to look them up in a dictionary.

Learning Mandarin is one of the best tools you can get in trying to become internationally effective in many careers. Have patience and persevere; you can learn this great language.
