Marilyn Manson's distinctive music and accompanying surreal videos are notable, but few see the other side of his creativity, his conceptual art.

Brian Hugh Warner was born in January 1969, in Canton, Ohio, and when he launched into his current successful music career, he spliced together the names of Marilyn Munroe and Charles Manson to become Marilyn Manson. In his autobiography, The Long Road out of Hell, he mentioned that his grandfather’s fetishes were bestiality and sadomasochism, which appears to have influenced how he formed his band. Abused by a neighbour, the young Manson was traumatised by this and became rebellious. This rebellious streak may have contributed to the image he created for himself and his musical style.

People may remember him in David Lynch’s movie, Lost Highway which he made his acting debut in in 1997, which led to more acting appearances.

The flamboyant Mr Manson began watercolour painting in 1999. He said he sold these conceptual pieces to drug dealers.

His first show, The Golden Age of Grotesque, was held at the Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions Centre in September 2002. Since then his unusual conceptual art has been exhibited widely in America and as far away as Vienna, Austria.

This is a clip of his exhibition at Space 39 Gallery in Fort Myers, Florida:

Here are a few other clips of his exhibitions:

Marilyn Manson painted a series of 20 paintings in 2010, which he called Genealogies of Pain. This was an exhibition in which he collaborated with David Lynch. This exhibition was in the Kunsthalle Gallery in Vienna, Austria:

It wouldn’t be an article about Marilyn without one of his most popular songs with a fantastic surrealist video, so I will leave you here. Enjoy! (If a Manson fan.) I wonder what the late great Salvador Dali would make of the video? Actually, I think he might like it!

Marilyn Manson has to be one of my favorite musical artists as of right now. I have been listening to his music for a little less then a year now and I just can’t get enough, they all have that.. power to them! Some political views are shared in the mix which makes it interesting to listen to especially if you agree such as I do. A few songs I recommend you YouTube and listen to are:

The Beutiful People

This is the new shit

Reflecting Gods

Tainted Love

And those are only a few of many! His music in my opinion is just fantastic! Check it out and comment, let me know what you think.

Is there truth behind every claim made within Michael Moore's Documentary?

Michael Moore’s Bowling for Columbine is a documentary filled with both humorous and sorrowful scenes scrutinizing the seemingly gun-crazed America, literally filled with millions of handguns. In his documentary, Moore, a lifelong National Rifle Association member, takes viewers through a variety of scenes drawing attention to the nation’s need for the reassurance of guns and the abuses of the media in covering crime, with a specific focus on, among other topics and events, the Columbine High School massacre of 1999. The movie is filled with its perky humor including questioning murderer James Nichols of “Why [he did not] use Gandhi’s way? He didn’t have guns, and he beat the British Empire!”, and Chris Rock’s short skit on, not gun-control, but “bullet-control.” But the documentary also features horrifying scenes such as the security-camera footage of the Columbine shootings. I felt most strongly about three specific scenes and the controversial issues they revealed: the North Country Bank scene as well as the K-Mart scene, illuminating the ease of obtaining weapons and ammunition in the United States, and the Marilyn Manson scene, revealing the negative influences of the media on society.

In the second scene of the documentary, Michael Moore enters a bank which doubled as a licensed gun dealership, advertising “More bang for your buck!,” as part of a promotion for free guns for those who opened new accounts with the bank. Moore’s first comment inside of the North Country Bank was “Do you think it’s a little dangerous handing out guns at a bank?” Putting aside the fact that pending being properly prepared, any group of thieves could break into the bank and use the pre-supplied artillery, giving out guns for any purpose in my opinion is both dangerous and foolish. The bank was using pure bribery to gain business, with the reward being a weapon! In other words, I open a bank account, and I potentially endanger the well-being of those around me. I found it rather frightening how easily it was for Michael Moore to obtain a weapon, with this I am sure being only one example of doing so. Over 50 million Americans own weapons. And going back to the North Country Bank example, for those of you who do not have the proper ammunition for your free Weatherby Mark V Magnum rifle, a few years ago, an easy trip to the local K-Mart could supply you with all of the 17 cent ammunition you needed! I was stunned when I found out that the bullets used in the Columbine massacre were simply purchased at K-Mart, and that K-Mart even sold bullets at all! I cannot fathom how any store can sell ammunition to minors in a “no-questions-asked” fashion. Had these bullets not been sold to these minors, one has to question whether or not the Columbine massacre would have ever happened at all? Through his trips to the North Country Bank as well as the K-Mart, Michael Moore revealed a major problem in the United States: Americans have a fondness for weapons.

The third scene that I felt strongly about was the sit-down interview with controversial American musician Marilyn Manson, whose strong influence over Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold may have played a role in the teenagers’ ploy to massacre Columbine High School. Putting aside my immediate impression of Manson because of his, well, individual appearance, I listened to what the stage persona’s response was to the accusations that he might be responsible for the Columbine killings. “I think it’s easy to throw my face on the TV, because in the end, I’m a poster boy for fear. Because I represent what everyone is afraid of, because I say and do whatever I want.” To be honest, I was caught off guard by how intelligent the man sounded. It struck me that the media does just as he said. The media needs to give immediate answers but they need to fill our minds with fear. Today’s news is a combination of murders, national disasters, and the negative results of not using a certain product or buying a certain car. When you see a man like Manson who says and does “whatever [he] wants,” it is easy to point fingers when something goes wrong. The media accusing Manson maintains their desire to expose fear. I agree with Manson when he says that the media takes and spins every story to implant fear into American’s minds, because Americans need something to consume. Without the media, Americans would be able to form their own opinions and break away from this bombardment of fear.

Although each scene conveys a certain message, it is important to remember that Bowling for Columbine is a movie and it was produced in Hollywood. Michael Wilson’s documentary Michael Moore Hates America makes claims that bank employees at the North Country Bank were misled during the filming of the scene in Bowling for Columbine. Contrary to what was viewed in the film, the bank made a claim that pending a background check, those who opened new accounts would have weapons mailed to a gun dealership for pick-up; however, Michael Moore insisted on an on-premises presentation of his free weapon. Regardless, the fact of the matter is the bank was presenting new clients with free weapons, and K-Mart was there for any American’s ammunition needs. Bowling for Columbine makes clear the controversies surrounding the Second Amendment in modern-day America.

COLD PLAY – The Brit band don’t really have excessive demands when on tour or gigging. All they request is cold dry white wine, worcester sauce and flowers…ahhhh.

LADY GAGA – Surely Lady Gaga has some strange requests when touring but no, according to insiders, the Lady loves nothing more than a plate of chilled cheese…..mmmmm.

MARILYN MANSON – Care to take a guess what the vampire look a likie has a weakness for when on tour? Would you have guessed jelly Gummi Bears, the Haribo Gold Gummi Bears no less….yum.

ROLLING STONES – Sex, Drugs and Rock n Roll. No, that’s not what the aging band demand (although they have probably had their fair share of all 3 over the years!). What the group mostly desire now days, is a channel with live cricket screening…arhhhh.

The Compensatory Demonic Dynamism of Marilyn Manson in Jungian Psychology

Marilyn Manson is the epitomized division of the personality into a dichotomy of opposing halves (the duality of light and darkness, God versus the devil), the emptiness of religious ritual and dogma, and the divergent power of the Catholic Church. After growing up in a strict Catholic home and school environment, the inner self of Marilyn Manson, Brian Warner, begins to believe that his soul cannot be saved; resulting in the deterioration of synchronicity and the emergence of the archetypes. The reflected archetypes project outward onto individuals or groups who are then thought to evince all the immature, evil, or repressed elements of the individual’s own psyche (Jung, 1950/1959).
Consumed with a fascination for disturbing irrational forces, Warner, after being rejected and failed by religious conformity, conceives Marilyn Manson. He embodies this identity believing, in relation to Jung’s theory, that people contain within their psyches a light and dark side and that neither can exist without the other. “The balance between good and evil and the choices we make between them are probably the single most important aspects shading our personalities and humanity” (Manson, 1998, p. 85).
The Psyche; the Personal and Collective Unconscious
In the psyche, an individual is partly comprised of the personal unconscious as a result of experience. Repeated viewings of grotesque profanity in the dark confines of his trachea- infected grandfather’s basement begin to form complexes in the personal unconscious experience. He later saw the slaughtering of animals through his friends’ occult religious sacrifice, describing the experience as a waking nightmare. Afraid, others pressure him to use drugs and belong to a group for which he feared. He turns to resentment and mischief trying to rebel at school, pulling dirty pranks and begins to develop, from the personal unconscious, complexes; which become an autonomous and fragmentary personality that lives a life of its own, dominating his thoughts, feelings and actions. His sex-driven teenage experiences, the collective unconscious drives of the inherited psyche, lead him further into the darkest realms of human experience.
Archetypes
Archetypes are ancient or archaic images that derive from the collective unconscious. They are similar to complexes in that they are emotionally toned collections of associated images. But whereas complexes are individualized components of the personal unconscious, archetypes are generalized and derive from the contents of the collective unconscious. The archetypes, Jung thought, are not memories of past experiences but “forms without content,” representing the possibility of a certain type of perception and action. To Jung, they are “The ruling powers, the gods, images of the dominant laws and principles, and of typical, regularly occurring events in the soul’s cycle of experience” (Jung, 1960, p. 201). They are responsible for the humanity of human beings; are on the effects and deposits of experience but are also active agents that cause the repetition of these same experiences. Throughout the twisted experience of Marilyn Manson’s life, the archetypes emerge.
In his early writings, the embodiments of the shadow archetype materialize. According to Jung, this is the part of our personal unconscious where repressed, unacceptable motives, tendencies, and desires live (Sollod, 2008, p. 137). Yet, for Manson, these phenomena have been realized within himself, and he has explored these repressed emotions through his writings, his music, and even in his appearance and style. Jung goes on to say that the “Shadow” is the dark half of our personality, a part of ourselves that we would prefer not to recognize, yet is common
in all of us (Sollard, 2008, p. 137). Marilyn Manson demonstrated this dark half of himself in his early writings, which he submitted to Night Terrors Magazine (Manson, 1998).
In this short story, titled All in the Family, he explores the world of a bizarre family, who are psychotic and mentally disturbed. In it a young man kills his sister and then sexually assaults her (Manson, 1998). At the end of this story, Teddy, who killed his sister, is found out by his mother who buries him alive in the back yard (Manson, 1998). In this very disturbing story, Marilyn Manson has embraced and reflected the shadow of his personality. Jung felt that it was healthy to recognize this part of our personalities, because if we do not, then “our personalities would be incomplete” (Sollod, 2008, p. 137). Furthermore, “Harmonious and balanced psychological development involves becoming aware of and accepting the existence of our shadow qualities” (Sollod, 2008, p. 137). Clearly, Manson has done just that to an extreme.
The Child: Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids
“When you are lonely you write; when you have friends you form a band” (Manson, 1998, p. 85). Without any formal musical training, and only a desire to become a recognized outspoken figure of the dark and ugly truths of society and the world, Marilyn Manson begins his first musical venture. He recruits two friends to join him in formulating a type of music that would later shock society to the core by defacing moral facades. These friends were what Manson called in his first “band” the spooky kids. Like children playing with musical toys, and costumes, Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids perform local acts mocking society’s ideals of the American family. Much like the child archetype, Marilyn releases into the world a demanding, unruly and untamable expression. His earliest musical works include Portrait of an American Family and Smells like Children. These albums are representative of the original or child like conditions in the life of Marilyn Manson and are reflective of his earliest disappointments within his family which he wished to dominate. The expression of the child archetype thus reminds the conscious mind of its origins and helps to keep them continuous. It also signifies the potentiality of future personality development; it anticipates the synthesis of opposites and the attainment of wholeness. As his musical career expands the expression the child becomes a powerful man and feared leader.
The Wise Old Man: The Reverend Manson
“If you act like a fucking rock star people will treat you like one” (Manson, 1998, p. 98).
Marilyn Manson presented something ugly to the world. He refused to conform to the tendency of perfectionism, trying to show society what he felt it needed to see: the truth, the abuse, and the misuse of power. He became a leader perhaps because those listening felt rejected and needed a source of strength. The followers could understand and relate to the value of his musical intentions. He became a god to many who lacked faith in society’s values, and those who were opposed called him the antichrist, blaming him for teenage suicides and for showing and bringing out the ugliness that already preexists in the world. He wrote Antichrist Superstar from a series of recurring dreams, which Jung believes brings a person to action. In this case, Antichrist was the spawn of the Reverend Manson. This album was released at the height of Manson’s fame and his loyal followers were submissive and devoted, which further lead him to exploit his authoritative power.
The Reverend Manson was eager to taunt his followers into further surrender. Behind the stage of his venues on tour he would take a select few into what he called “confession.” They would be undressed and tied in uncomfortable positions with a rope secured around the neck. If the person attempted to move out of the position they would become strangled by the rope. In attempts to test their faith he would ask them to confess their deepest secrets while in the torture device. Many would reveal childhood traumas, sexual abuse, and imprisonment. Like a televangelist, he felt he would “save” the victims by allowing them to give themselves over entirely to a realm that was already ugly, unforgiving, and discarded. The all consuming Reverend Manson deepens into the majority of the persona.
The side of personality that is reflected onto the world is designated as the persona. It is the mask behind which an individual barriers their inner self from the world. In Jungian psychology, the persona should project a particular role, one that society dictates. However, identifying too much with the persona, a person may lose touch with the inner self and remain dependent on society’s expectations. “To be oblivious to one’s persona is to underestimate the importance of society, but to be unaware of one’s deeply individualized inner self is to become society’s puppet (Jung, 1959, p.101). Marilyn Manson was society’s puppet and master. He did whatever he wanted, said whatever he wanted, and had little to no regard for anything or anyone else. However, to achieve the highest level of self realization, one must adapt not only to the outside world but to the inner world as well. If anyone were to wear a mask that dictates an image onto society it was Marilyn Manson. The consuming preoccupation with the over-identified societal role causes a decompensation of the inner-self and a lack of wholeness.
Mechanical Animals: Anima
The repression of the light and good half of Marilyn Manson’s dynamism causes a drastic shift in his personality. After the antichrist era, Manson begins to devote his image to Marilyn, and becomes a drugged, androgynous, mechanical animal. In this phase of his life experience, somewhere between youth and middle life, Marilyn attempts to create a glamorous attractiveness that is neither completely male nor female. Derived from this period is the Anima. Jung believed that all humans are psychologically bisexual and possess both a masculine and a feminine side. Following a person’s coming to terms with the shadow one is then confronted with the anima/animus, the archetype which is said to personify the soul, or inner attitude (Jung, 1951/1959).
The Anima often takes on the characteristics of the opposite sex. It is said to represent the femininity in men, and comes from three sources: a man’s experience with women as companions; man’s own femininity rooted presumably in the minority of female genes and hormones present in man’s body; and the inherited collective image that has been formed from man’s collective experience of woman through out the centuries (Jung, 1951/1959).
In attempts to connect with the inner self, Marilyn presents a metamorphosis into the female celebrity image. He writes Mechanical Animals, an album about the transformation of black to white. Songs included in this album are Coma White, Great Big White World, Post Human and New Model. His lyrics portray an attempt to escape the rejected world, the blackness and the all consuming relationship with the masculine persona. He becomes a bleached feminine image wearing platinum blonde hair, white body suits and breasts. The mechanism of this transformation is induced and further chased by drugs but it obvious by studying his lyrical art that the drugs fail to save him, fail to release him, and leave him fundamentally loathsome and further disassociated.
Holy Wood: the Great Mother
The great mother is a derivative of the anima, as is the wise old man, which is associated more with the masculine properties of the persona. The preexisting concept of mother is associated with both positive and negative feelings (Jung 1954/1959). The great mother, therefore, represents two opposing forces, fertility and nourishment on the one hand, and power and destruction on the other (Feist, 2006). Holy Wood is the convergence of religion and Hollywood and is a musical story about self destruction as a result of the failed faith in both society and religion, which are thought to nurture and support. Themes in this album include Jesus Christ, John Lennon and John F. Kennedy, who Manson passionately portrays as victims of both institutions. This powerful prayer-like masterpiece encompasses a cry for mercy. If Mechanical Animals represents the reaching for light and escape, Holy Wood is the closing of the hatch and the return to a dark and distant death of hope and the inner-self, which is destroyed by the Great Mother.
Dynamics of Personality: Psychological Types
Jung recognized various psychological types that grow out of a union of two basic attitudes, introversion and extroversion (Jung 1921/1971). Jung defined an attitude as a predisposition to act or react in a characteristic direction (Feist, 2006). He believed that each person has both an introverted and extraverted attitude, although one may be conscious while the other is unconscious. Like other opposing forces, introversion and extraversion serve in a compensatory relationship to one another, like the balance between the yin and the yang. The time of youth requires an extroverted attitude which is directed toward outward material desires such as one’s career. Understanding Manson’s earliest works and how they were developed from the extroverted attitude coincides with the later development of introversion. Along with the introverted attitude comes an urgent need to re-examine accepted values and to appreciate the opposites of earlier ideals. Introversion is when a person’s concerns progressively become centered in the internal world and the fuller development of the psyche. In Holy Wood and other later works, Manson reflects the inner attitude of his self and professes that it was a strong realization and turning away from just the expression of his hatred and resentment toward the world, and more of an extension of his self.
Thinking and Feeling
Jung points out the conceptual relationships of understanding psychic content. He divides the means of doing this into thinking and feeling (Jung 1921/1971). Active thinking is directed and undertaken intentionally toward the end of some judgment. When examining Marilyn Manson’s active thinking process, his personal views about family, religion, society and the world are largely revealed. Passive thinking is called intuitive and is a case in which conceptual connections seem to establish themselves of their own accord and may lead to judgments that are contrary to one’s intentions. Marilyn Manson didn’t set out to destroy the world, diverge to what some may believe. Instead, Manson attempted to recognize the repression of thoughts, desires and knowledge contained within every human being, that many wish to ignore. This is a rational attempt to unify the existence of good and evil and acknowledge the responsibility of individuals to recognize both within themselves. It is considered rational because it is influenced by reflection and is in accord with the laws of reason.
Feeling is what Jung used to describe the process of assessing an idea or event. It is the evaluation of every conscious activity (Jung 1921/1971). In the reflective feeling process, emotion can be developed if the feeling brings about much intensity. The emotion can be heard and felt through the collection of Manson’s deep reflection of the extroverted and introverted attitudes. Without this component of understanding psychic content it would be difficult for the continuation of Marilyn Manson’s work to be so evolutionary.
Discussion
Marilyn Manson encompasses the psychic life of nearly every concept, element, action, and change in Carl Jung’s analytical theory: the conscious/unconscious, rational/irrational, feminine/masculine and matter/spirit. Thus Jung sees individuation as never-ending process of differentiation and integration which repeats itself on higher and higher planes.
One’s analytical abilities function to distinguish, develop, and contrast the individual components of the psyche. The creative forces of the unconscious, on the other hand, provide symbols that bring the divided and one-sided elements into unity on a higher level. Marilyn Manson is the bold contrast between the dichotomy of the inner and outer self unable to achieve a balance in a world that is so white that the self constantly attempts but is unable to compensate.

In recent times, Oklahoma News 9 has reported that teenagers are using the Internet to get high by taking part in what is being called ‘i-dosing’. They claim that teenagers can listen to certain MP3’s online that will induce a state of ecstasy. It must have been a really slow news day that day!

The thought that teenagers can actually get high just from listening to MP3’s on the Internet is one that I suppose almost has a half truth about it. Music does have the ability of making a person feel better (or worse) but to claim that music can have the same effects as marijuana, cocaine, opium and ecstasy is beyond belief.

Image via Wikipedia

It was William Congreve who said ‘music hath charms to soothe a savage breast, to soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak’ and he was on to something. Music does have the ability to affect moods, that much is certain. To what level though is debatable.

Witness the outcry of all those who blamed the music of Marilyn Manson when some kids decided to shoot up their school.

Sure music can pick you up when you feel down, it can depress you as well, but to go as far as to say that listening to certain songs will give you the same high as the taking of illegal drugs is a ridiculous thing to say.

It is funny though when such a news story breaks, not only does it pander to those who are genuinely scared over nothing, it also just shows that ‘nothing comes from nothing’. On reading about this latest ‘craze’ for teens getting high from music, my mind wandered back to some time in the 1990’s when the Shamen threatened to take over the music world (no laughing at the back please).

Not only did the band known as the Shamen quite openly advocate the use of drugs (their hit Ebeneezer Goode was banned for its open drug references – E’s are good, E’s are good, he’s Ebeneezer Goode) but they even tried to go one step further.

The Shamen – Ebeneezer Goode

The Shamen once claimed that their music had ‘hidden’ beats and sounds in the music that would leave the listener in a state of euphoria. They didn’t quite claim that it would give them a high such as an illegal drug would but it was as close as it could be. Or so they claimed!

There were probably people out there who, after listening to the Shamen, felt better (to whatever degree) but there were also people who would have felt better after listening to anything else also. Music has the ability to do that.

As for this latest nonsense about teenagers using the Internet to get high by listening to music online, it is a sad indictment of the time we live in. Someone has probably come up with the idea to make a fast buck from the gullible teenagers out there and the sad thing is that there are enough people out there who believe it.

With all of that said, and with no real medical background behind me, there is something that is true. The way the body works is down to chemicals, that can react to certain stimuli and can react in different ways. For some people it is easier to become addicted to something than for others, even if it is the same thing, differences in the individuals chemical balance can cause that. So perhaps there are some people out there who, after listening to certain types of music, could feel the same kind of high as they would from an illegal drug.

Perhaps we are all doomed after all! Oh well, in the meantime, I might as well go and listen to some music – that always makes me feel high!

A real gentlemen behind the make-up. Intelligent being no one really knows.

... The man behind the make-up. Everyone always freaks out over Marilyn Manson and his ways. They all say he’s a devil worshipper and nothing but pure evil but if you take the time out to watch any of his interviews you’d actually see he’s a human just like everyone else. Look around us and you can see many others who is just like him, just not wearing the make-up. He puts the make-up on to bring out his character, just like any actors/ actresses on T.V when they get ready for a role. They do one thing and it gets them into the character so they can be in that role.

As for seeing him without it, it’s no big shocker or deal for me. I’ve seen him without it a few times, he barely wears it outside of singing. I wasn’t a big Marilyn Manson fan at first, I’ve heard a few songs and thought they were pretty good. Once I met my husband and he started discussing the actual songs I’ve heard, I’ve come to realize that there is nothing wrong with his music or songs, he’s just doing what he loves to do. He writes what he feels, isn’t that what other singers do? Example: Jay Z, Eminem, Ludacris, and so on. I know some make a commotion about them as well, but when it all comes down to it, I think they make the biggest commotion about Marilyn Manson just because he’s different. He doesn’t dress or act like everyone else, he’s being his own person. Truth is, he’s only being himself, when did that start being the wrong thing do to?

Everyone decides who someone is by what they do, how about deciding by meeting and if that’s not personal, look deep inside the lyrics, watch interviews, read about their life, do something other than judge. If we do nothing but judge, nothing good will come out of anything. I know people make mistakes, but yet most learn from them. He’s done some things I’m sure he isn’t proud of and yet he continues. He has just as many problems as we do ourselfs. Just because he looks different and enjoys different things than us doesn’t mean anything. He is a human being and every human is different and likes all sorts of things, whether anyone else does or not.

I’ve decided to attatch a few links to some of his interviews. Watch them and then make your decision on who he is, not by what he sings, but by how he acts and discusses things. He is an intelligent man, you have to see behind the make-up to know who Marilyn Manson really is…

Marilyn Manson (real name - Brian Hugh Warner, Brian Hugh Warner; p. January 5, 1969) - American musician, founder and leader of the rock group Marilyn Manson.

Marilyn Manson (real name – Brian Hugh Warner, Brian Hugh Warner; p. January 5, 1969) – American musician, founder and leader of the rock group Marilyn Manson.

Early life

Brian Warner (Marilyn Manson in the future) was born January 5, 1969 in Canton, Ohio, in the family nurse and furniture dealer. From early childhood he tried to instill the love of God (he even studied at a Christian school for boys).

In fact, the acceptance by the public in Manson Satanist happened after his landmark meeting with the founder and spiritual leader of the philosophical trend known as Satanism, Anton Szandor LaVey, who awarded the honorary title of Reverend Manson Church of Satan. Later in his autobiography The Long Hard Road out of Hell (book), Manson wrote about the thrill of communicating with LaVey: “It did not sound much louder than a five minute consultation with pyatidesyatidollarovogo therapist, but I was grateful and delighted, because LaVey was not the person to whom you can criticize.”

Career

Music

When Brian was 18, he graduated from high school in Ohio and moved to Florida, where he found a job in a local music magazine. There he served as a reporter and music critic, in his spare time writing poetry. In 1989, Bryan, along with guitarist cattle Putevski created his own rock band. He decided to take a new name: Marilyn Manson (Marilyn Manson), consisting of fragments of the names of two completely different people: movie stars Marilyn Monroe and serial killer-killer Charles Manson. In the future, the other band members followed the example of a leader, choosing their aliases on a similar pattern (Scott Putevski became Daisy Berkovitza Brian Tyutyunnik – in Olivia Newton-Bundy, Perry Pandrea – in Over For Speck, etc.)

The original name of the group – «Marilyn Manson and The Spooky Kids»: Manson sang, but Berkowitz served as the main guitarist and drum machine programmer. The earliest known of the group included: Marilyn Manson (vocals), Daisy Berkovitza (guitar and drum machine operator), Olivia Newton Bundy (born Olivia Newton-Bundy) (bass), Over Over Speck (born Zsa Zsa Speck) (keyboards). Newton Bundy and Speck soon gone, and instead commissioned rose Gidzhet bassist Gein (born Gidget Gein, died Oct. 9, 2008 for 39-year-life of a heroin overdose) and keyboardist Madonna Wayne Gesi (born Madonna Wayne Gacy) .

First, the group played the opening act for «Nine Inch Nails». Trent Reznor (Trent Reznor) like a young team, and he became a friend and informal mentor the participants. Finely-designed advertising campaign immediately brought to the fore the leader and vocalist, leaving out all the rest. He created a group logo consisted of the inscription «MARILYN MANSON», in the style of horror films (”dripping” type), the inscription was located above the gaze of Marilyn Manson, and below – a mad look of the prototype of his alias of Charles Manson. Almost immediately published a series of gifts with this picture, in addition to advertise the group helped extensive contacts Manson in journalistic circles.

Live performances of the group were characterized by extensive use of various attractions, to use anything that might reinforce the impression: sandwiches with peanut butter, which dropped from the scene, crucified, or enclosed in cages girls bald goat’s head, nudity and the use of open flame. Do Gesi (keyboards) had a small cabin, signed «Pogo’s Playhouse», in which his synths. Berkowitz could play in a skirt, bra and a wig of long blond hair, his guitar hanging very low and his mouth stuck a cigarette, complementing the image of “bad guy”. All of this was used for maximum effect.

Movies and TV

Manson at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006.

Manson made his debut as an actor in David Lynch’s Lost Highway, which was released in rent in 1997. In 1998, Manson has appeared in the film “Queen of murder,” which also starred his girlfriend Rose McGowan. In 2003, he starred as Christine in the film “Party Monster”. In 2004, Manson appears in the film, Asia Argento “Chicks.” In 2007, Manson has played the role of the bartender in the movie “vampire.” Manson also appeared in a documentary film by Michael Moore’s “Bowling for Columbine”, where he gave his interview.

Manson is working on my own in a big movie. He is the film “Phantasmagoria: Visions of Lewis Carroll”, which will play the role of Lewis Carroll, author of Alice in Wonderland. The film’s budget is $ 4.2 million. In 2007 the project was halted indefinitely. In 2011, expected to premiere «Splatter Sisters», where Manson clear his ex-girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood.

Art

Also, Marilyn Manson is known as an artist. Manson paints watercolors from 1999 to the present day. At this time drawn more than 150 paintings. Manson’s paintings were exhibited at exhibitions in Moscow, Los Angeles, Miami, Athens, Paris, Berlin and so on.

Personal life

In 1998, Manson met the actress Rose McGowan, with whom later became engaged, however, the engagement was canceled in 2000. November 28, 2005 the singer married Dite Von Teese, but on Dec. 29, 2006 Dita files for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences”.

From December 2006 to October 2008 met with a young actress Evan Rachel Wood. Met with American pornographic actress and model Halt from March to December 2009 year. In December 2009, Marilyn Manson, resumed relations with Evan Rachel Wood, and in January 2010 he proposed to her, to which she agreed. In August 2010 engagement was canceled.

Remember the brief time period when it seemed like school shootings were just the thing to do? Go ahead and bring back Yo-Yos, Gigapets, laser pointers, and boomboxes. Let's at least try to stop this trend from making a triumphant return.

School already has students and faculty concerned enough about grades, extracurricular activities, social status, and other crap that doesn’t matter. Learning is what’s important, not all this baggage it’s picked up along the way. Now, ever since the time when school shootings were apparently becoming a popular activity amongst teenagers, schools have bestowed other concerns on everyone. I think the trend has faded a little, but it’s still something we have to worry about. It can happen anywhere. It happened in Bethel, Alaska of all places. I saw the bullet holes in the wall myself.

It’s unfortunate that kids and faculty at school have to worry about some crazy little tyke blasting the shit out of everyone with his daddy’s gun. The concern for safety is of course important. Staying alive is more important than passing Chemistry or learning about how much of a hero Christopher Columbus was when he slaughtered the Indians. It’s absolutely necessary to take safety precautions. However, they take it too far. They exaggerate the needs. It’s ridiculous.

Now trench coats are banned from some schools. In my opinion, this is absurd. Why someone would want to wear a trench coat at school anyway is not something I understand, but it should most definitely not be a banned item of clothing at a public facility. When someone starts blasting peoples’ brains out, I am pretty certain that what type of coat this person has on is not at fault. Coats don’t kill people. People kill people. Left-wing douchebags will tell you that guns are to blame and right-wing assholes want you to believe it’s black clothing, violent video games, and heavy metal. Well, maybe it’s rap these days getting blamed more than metal.

Because of different types of interests, and different cliques involved with school shootings, specific types of clothing are not permitted inside school buildings. This makes sense to ignorant people. They don’t know who will strike next. Is it those troubled kids listening to –gasp – Marilyn Manson or is it the ones listening to – gasp – Eminem? Maybe if everyone dresses the same, everyone will be the same, and there will be no more violence. We can’t all just be different and get along now can we? Why don’t we ask the Shiites and the Sunnis about this one?

School uniforms seem like a terrible idea. Now they all look alike. How do you catch the murderous sociopaths now? It could be any one of them. Fuck, if I had to wear a school uniform, I might have killed someone myself! Well, not really, but it would suck. I have a better idea. Instead of assuming that students, particularly teenagers, are stupid and evil, perhaps we could try to understand them by remembering what it was like at that age. Yes, there could very well possibly be a some psychopath stirring in the midst, planning a homicidal outburst to wreak havoc on the school body, but not everyone with a Marilyn Manson t-shirt is concealing a Glock .45 in an opaque backpack. Keeping these kinds of kids hidden and ignoring them is only going to make them worse.

Precautions can be taken without destroying individuality in ways such as the requirement to use transparent or translucent backpacks. Then any illegal items cannot be hidden in them. This doesn’t seem to severely hamper personal expression. Logical safety precautions are a good idea. There are things such as the installation of intercommunication systems and metal detectors that are helpful, but only if the school can afford it without cutting out educational needs. That is, after all, why a school exists. It is there for learning, not for instilling fear of each other through stereotyping.
