Nazis (Nazi stands for “Nationalsozialistishe Deutsche Arbeiterpartei” or “National Socialist German Worker’s Party”), led by Adolf Hitler, came to power on January 30, 1933, when Hindenburg assigned Hitler as a coalition chancellor.

[NOTE: This article was neither written with a prejudiced tone nor to create hard feelings. Rather, it is an educational piece on the facts pertaining to crimes committed by the Nazis. Knowing the cruelty of the Nazis, we should never select a head of the country that commits acts of racism, violence, brutality and discrimination. The Nazi's history teaches us a great lesson that a blind selection of the country's leaders can lead to such acts of suffering and destruction. We should never encourage mass killing, war, torturing, and wicked crimes just for the personal aims of achieving social status, power and wealth. Think that, life in such a horrific condition is a world where you will see violence and discrimination taking place anytime, and you would also see more dying people with your naked eyes everyday! Every April 11 is a day for the remembrance of the Holocaust's victims. Let's pray for the victims and guide the Holocaust survivors to positively walk through the nightmare they may have experienced throughout their life and continue on to healing.]

Hitler was legally gaining power as a Führer then as Chancellor and Commander in Chief within a year and a half after the death of Hindenburg. He was accused of being the advocator for the beginning of “Holocaust” (originally termed from a Greek word of “holokauston” which means “sacrifice by fire”, and is referred to the Nazi’s planned slaughter as well as Nazi’s persecution to kill/eliminate Jewish people), a murderer of millions of Jews, and a perpetrator for many horrific scenes happening in the death and concentration camps.

Nazi’s death and concentration camps, in fact, were carefully designed at aiming to kill two-thirds of Jewish people living in Nazi’s invading countries, with an estimation of 11 million people (mostly Jews) being killed and about 1.1 million children murdered during the Holocaust. Nazis’ hands are still contaminated with much innocent blood even though some of them had died and become cursed by many for their atrocities against humanity.

Do not think they were upstanding individuals as they were involved in killing up to 200,000 Jews at the death camps, including transporting Jews from some of the large ghettos (Jews were ordered to move into more specific, areas of big cities called ghettos by the Nazis when World War II began, with the largest ghettos of population attaining 445,000 Jews in Warsaw in March 1941) in Eastern Europe by trains either to a death camp or a concentration camp, ordering Jews into gas chambers to poison them, and lastly dumping their dead bodies into mass graves.

Anti-Jewish legislations were gradually implemented against German Jews with the first action of boycotting all Jewish-run businesses being initiated on April 1, 1933. During the declaration of a boycott upon Jews’ stores, Yellow Stars of David were painted on their windows, which was a tactic aimed at isolating the Jews from other races. The first photo showed members of the SS storm Detachment called Stormtroopers (”Sturmabteilung” in German) were standing in a Jewish shop with their signs stated: “Germans, defend yourself, buy only at German shops!” and “Germans, defend yourselves against the Jewish atrocity propaganda, buy only at German Shops!” The second photo showed another extreme action of boycotting which was imposed on Jewish-run businesses in Germany in April 1943 by the Nazis.

About 2 years later, that was on September, 1935, the Nuremberg Laws were issued to strip German Jews’ citizenships, prohibit extramarital sex and marriages between Germans and Jews, and also to exclude Jews from public life. Additional anti-Jewish laws were announced to exclude the presence of Jews in the parks, and many of them were fired from governmental jobs. The second photo showed a sign written in German and Polish found in a public park in Krakow which read: “Jews: Entry is forbidden”.

During the night called “Kristallnacht” (or “Night of Broken Glass”), that was the night of November 9-10, 1938, Nazis instigated a pogrom against Jewish people in Germany and Austria. This was a violent night during which the Jews were physically attacked. Among the violence done by Nazis included attacking Jews, breaking the windows of Jewish-run businesses, burning and pillaging synagogues. Besides this, an estimated 30,000 Jews were detained and sent to concentration camps.

In November 1938, following the Kristallnacht pogrom, the German government forced Jews to wear a yellow badge called “Yellow Star of David” on their clothing. When World War II started in 1939, Reich policy made wearing the yellow stars as mandatory in Poland and Jews were warned with severe punishments, including death by shooting, if they did not wear the yellow badge on their back and front. This policy was mandated just before the Jews were confined in ghettos with an aim to being able to easily target and identify Jews and also to isolate Jews from other races.

Nazis implanted hatred against Jews (anti-Semitism) by starting a mass execution against Jews. Jews including a young boy, in naked bodies, were murdered by a Nazi-invading Soviet Union.

Being one of the one-hundred-fifty prisoners who were attempting to rise and escape from being savagely burnt to death by Nazi SS troops, this victim was found to be rested in his position while facing his horrible death.

Starting 1934, Nazis used inmates at concentration camps as slave laborers for their personal tasks or camp projects. They were exploited in a horrific way to serve Nazis and were treated like animals by the Nazi guards of the camps. In fact, they were even killed, tortured, enslaved and starved by the Nazis. Also, the inmates were forced to work in harsh conditions with inadequate food and water, and had to endure starvation, and thus, not surprisingly it was found that most of the inmates of the concentration camps could only survive up to 6 weeks.

Over hundreds of women branded anti-social by Nazis were also used as forced labors or murdered. They were instructed to pull dump cars filled with heavy stones in the camp quarry in 1944.

At the Buchenwald concentration camp which is located at Weimar in Germany, lots of dead prisoners’ bodies were dumped in a truck as unwanted rubbish.

Episodes of Nazi’s Terror: Nazi’s Mass Killing Plan through Concentration and Extermination Camps

Nazi’s planning of establishing so-called Jews killing centres or “concentration camps” (Konzentrationslager, abbreviated as KL or KZ) throughout the territories it controlled were in fact, branched into various types of camps including labor camps, prisoner-of-war camps, transit camps, concentration camps and extermination camps.

Dachau was the first concentration camp built and was opened March 22, 1933. From 1933 to 1938, most of the inmates detained in the concentration camps were mostly political prisoners who acted or spoke in a way that was against Nazis or/and Hitler, in addition to those who were labelled by Nazis as anti-social, “undesirables” like outspoken communists and journalists or anyone who resisted the Nazis.

After the incidence of the Night of Broken Glass (or Kristallnacht) which occurred in 1938, the persecution against Jews went wild and there were an increased number of Jews sent to concentration camps by trains on a daily basis. But sadly to say, many died before they reached the camps. Under horrifying conditions, many prisoners were confined in rail freight cars, often for days or even weeks, to be transported to the camps with inadequate food or water. On the way, many died by freezing to death in the winter and for being exposed to intense heat and/or dehydration caused death in the summer.

Even though the European Jews were the largest group of victims of the Holocaust, they were also 250,000 mentally or physically disabled people, about one-half million Gypsies, and 3 million Soviet prisoners-of-war which were victims of Nazi genocide, in addition to Social Democrats, partisans, trade unionists, Polish intelligentsia, homosexuals, undesirable persons and Jehovah’s Witnesses also fell victims of the hate and aggression implemented by the Nazis.

For prisoner markings, prisoners in most camps were ordered to put on colored badges on their striped clothing according to their status: purple for Jehovah’s Witnesses, yellow for Jews, red triangles for political prisoners and communists, pink for homosexual males, black for anti-social and Gypsies, and green triangles for common criminals.

Indeed, it was nightmare thinking of the real life in the Nazi concentration camps. To name a few, inmates were ordered to do physically hard work with little food and water causing some of them to die of starvation. Additionally, many handicapped, mentally ill and elderly inmates were gassed to death with diesel engine exhaust. The inmates were also forced to sleep in a wooden bunk cramped with three or more people, even with no mattress or pillow to sleep on. Physical and mental torturing of Jews regardless of their sex was common, even the deaths were also a very common scene seen inside the camps. Rather, these camps were cleverly designed to force inmates to work and later to starve them to death.

Worst still, the establishment of death camps or extermination camps were with the sole purpose to kill large group of prisoners, mostly Jews, more efficiently and quickly. Within the period of the invasion of the Nazis in Europe, they had built six extermination camps, namely, Sobibor, Majdanek, Auschwitz, Chelmno, Belzec, and Treblinka. Of the six camps, Majdanek as well as Auschwitz were functioned as extermination and concentration camps. It was documented that 750,000 to 900,000 people were killed at Treblinka, about 600,000 at Belzec, and 1.1 million to 1.5 million people at Auschwitz.

Since the establishment of death or extermination camps, over 3 million Jewish people died in these camps, primarily caused by poisonous gas carried out in the gas chambers, and some of them were killed in mass shootings and even by other inhumane means.

At Majdanek concentration camp which is located in the outskirts of Lublin, also the second largest death camp in Poland after Auschwitz-Birkenau, a pile of human skulls and bones were observed. In 1944, this camp was liberated by the Red Army.

Rows of dead bodies showed less than half of the bodies of the several hundred starved inmates or were shot by Gestapo men were seen filling the yard of Lager Nordhausen, in Gestapo concentration camps.

What else made the Nazis so horrible and cruel? Behind the scenario of the camps, Nazi doctors performed medical experiments on inmates who went against their instructions at several numbers of concentration camps. By the end of the war, the extermination camps became horrific medical experiments, including removing muscles, nerves and bones from the prisoners to study regeneration of human body parts causing victims to suffer indescribable pain and permanent disability; shooting inmates with poisonous bullets or secreting poisonous chemicals into prisoners’ food, or injecting Russian prisoners with cyanide and phenol and if the victims did not die during these experiments they were killed to help perform autopsies; and prisoners were also used to expose to a lethal gas used as a weapon during World War I, without the consent of the victims, who suffered excruciating pain, pulmonary edema, permanent disability, mutilation, or in many cases death as a result.

Nazi terror began in August 1944 in Poland when they used a bone-crushing machine to grind prisoners’ bones (mostly Jews) at the Janowska concentration camp (the cruelest death camp) for the purpose of obtaining fertilizer.

There are a row of five ovens (crematoria) with each oven long enough to place two bodies end to end. There is a small gas chamber room seen in the crematorium building with a hole in the ceiling for the purpose of pouring in the poisonous gas crystals, in which there is a floor drain directly below the hole. Unlike the gas chambers at Majdanek, the gas chambers in the crematorium do not show any blue staining. The ovens burnt the human bodies to a pile of ash, leaving behind concrete proof of the Nazi crimes. Up to 320,000 people were reported to be killed with the ovens at Mauthausen camp. Before liberation, the Nazis set fire on the wooden crematorium building to burn off the bodies of Polish political prisoners brought from the Gestapo prison at the Castles in Lublin, an execution day being done on them just before the Russian soldiers arrived at the camp on July 23, 1944.

Episodes of Nazi’s Terror: Inhumane Torturing Methods of the Gas Chambers

Initially, the first Nazi gas chambers were introduced under a so-called “Aktion T4″ program and were used to eliminate mentally and physically handicapped individuals in Poland and Germany. However, during the holocaust, Nazis used gas chambers as inhumane methods for mass killing of Jews as part of Nazi’s Final Solution (refers to Nazi’s plan to murder the Jews). Trains were used to bring Jews and victims from Nazi-occupied countries straight to the gas chambers which were disguised as shower rooms on a daily basis. At the gas chambers, prisoners were instructed to get in and out of the concrete bathtub filled with disinfectant in the shower room for several seconds. The tiny-blue rock crystals called Zyklon-B pellets, which released a potent poisonous gas when heated, were dropped through the holes of the ceiling in the chamber to kill the victims before their bodies were burnt in the crematoria. The shower room in the gas chamber building at Majdanek was also used as a labor camp, as well as extermination camp for the incoming Jew prisoners who were chosen to be worked at Majdanek.

The blue stains leaving on the stucco around the window and on the window frame revealed the heavy use of Zyklon-B gas, with the most concentrated blue stains seen at the largest three rooms inside the gas chamber next to the shower showing repeated used of Zyklon-B.

At Belzec concentration camp which was built in March 1942, the prisoners were brought to this camp by trains. Later, they were instructed to enter the chamber disguised as showers in which a poisonous gas of carbon monoxide was pumped into the chamber to kill them. About 500,000 Jews perished in this camp and their bodies were buried in mass graves.

It was documented that about 1 to 2 million Jews were killed in the largest killing center (or death camp) at Auschwitz-Birkenau, with its motto “work makes one free” seen at the main entrance.

The Holocaust Nightmare Ended

When Nazis were defeated by Allied Powers in 1945, the Holocaust nightmare ended. Many survivors of the concentration and death camps were liberated. In April 1945, Hitler committed suicide in his bunker while Mussolini was hung by the Italians.

In the same year of 1945, the liberated inmates took down Nazi signs found from all over the gates to Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria.

On April 29, 1945, Dachau concentration camp was liberated by the U.S Armies, 816 survivors in 30 abandoned railroad cars started crying and cheering while the armies approached them. The U.S armed forces also found 2,310 corpses in the same railroad cars.

On July 23, 1944, that was the moment when the Majdanek death camp was liberated, Soviet Union announced that the Nazis had murdered 1.7 million persons, but later in November 1945 during which the Nuremberg International Military Tribunal Proceedings were held, the Soviets revised that the Nazi war criminals were at 1.5 million.

After the liberation, many of the Nazi concentration camps were demolished, however; some of them were kept as permanent memorials.

As a child, Hitler, along with his mother, was often beaten by Alois. This resulted in a strong emotional attachment to his mother and a hatred towards his father. Hitler also did poorly in school to make a point to his father, who wanted him to become a Customs Official. Hitler wanted to be a painter instead. He tried to enter the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna twice but was denied.

On 21 December 1907, Hitler’s mother died of breast cancer. He inherited money from an aunt in 1910.

Hitler’s career as a painter failed soon after his second try to enroll in the academy. In 1909 he lived in a shelter for the homeless and in 1910 he lived ina shelter for poor working men.

In World War I he served in Belgium and France as a runner. Being a runner is the most dangerous job on the Western Front. Hitler received two iron crosses, one in 1914 (second class ) and in 1918 (first class). Hitler remained in the army after World War I and returned to Munich, where he attended the funeral march for the murdered Bavarian prime minister Kurt Eisner.

The Holocaust

The definition of the word “holocaust” has been used since the 18th century to refer to the violent deaths of a large number of people.

The killings took place in almost all of the Nazi controlled countries. Any person with 3 or 4 grandparents that were Jewish were killed unless they converted to another religion.

Many experiments were done on the people in the concentration camps, including lacing subjects in pressure chambers, testing drugs on them, freezing them, attempting to change eye color by injecting chemicals into children’s eyes and various amputations and other brutal surgeries. People who survived the experiments were almost always killed soon after and disected.

In one experiment they sewed two four year old twins together at the back, the wounds became infected. The mother obtained some morphine and had her daughters killed.

By the end of the Holocaust, 5.9 million jews were killed, 2-3 Soviet prisoners of war, 200,000-250,000 disabled, 80,000-200,000 Freemasons, 5000-15,000 homosexuals, and 2,500-5000 Jehovah’s Witnesses
