Have you ever had someone come up to you in a bar and just randomly sing you a song in order to get your attention?

I dimly remember a guy who actually did this. I was sitting with my cousins this one time at a club while waiting for another cousin to show up with some of her friends. We were having a grand time enjoying ourselves, seated and sipping drinks while conversing with one another when all of a sudden this random guy sits next to me.

It was one of those long seats and long tables where anybody can just sit down, you don’t need any reservations for it. He lightly taps me on the shoulder and asks for my name. Not soon after that, he asks me again if he can get to know me. Mind you this happened around six or seven years ago and I freaked out, I was like, “huh? What do you mean?” And so he breaks into a song by Musiq Soulchild “Just Friends”, and of course we were in a club so the music was blaring. It was kind of funny and he sure got my attention.

Anyway the reason I brought this up is because a few days ago my cousin and I were hanging out with a bunch of other cousins (we’re an extremely large family) and we got started on this kind of topic. She was telling me how her guy friend approached someone at a club and just suddenly without even an introduction of sorts, he lightly tapped the girl on the shoulder and while leaning in he sang softly in her ear “Situation….” while winking at the girl. He was singing Usher’s song “U Don’t Have To Call”. What made it funny was the girl was so freaked out about this she looked at him with one of her eyebrows raised and just left him. Talk about awkward! To be fair though, I think he was drunk. =P

When you train someone, you may envision an end result, whether it be something intangible as treating you differently or somehing more tangible, such as a wedding ring.

As with any training, start off with baby steps.  For example if you want your man to remember birthdays and anniversaries without constant reminders from you, start off by simply discussing how it makes you feel when he doesn’t remember your birthday.  A simple talk is considered a baby step. 

From baby steps, you may have to progress to withdrawal of certain privileges until he learns how important these things are to you. 

Positive Reinforcements

We all like some type of positive feedback when we’ve done something well, whether it is a raise, a promotion, or just a pat on the back.  So when he reciprocates in kind, give him some type of positive actions to show that you appreciate what he did for you.

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat

If you keep requesting the same thing over and over again, eventually he may get the idea and it may even become a habit for him.  For example, maybe you would like him to take the garbage out or mow the lawn for you.  If you repeatedly ask him to perform these chores, especially if you have a set day or schedule to do so, he may eventually start doing these things for you out of habit.

Some Don’ts

Do not go against the grain.  What do I mean by this?  If your man is overly shy, and private, don’t expect him to be the life of the party in order to impress either your friends, family or others. It will not happen.  This is where choosing someone you are compatible with from the start comes into play. 

If you wanted an extrovert, why not date an outgoing man in the first place instead of trying to change him into something he cannot be.

Force him to like what you like.  For example shopping with you instead of watching sports will not happen.  Just move on from this training to one that you will probably have more success with.

Train him in a loving way
